RIP The Great H.R. Giger (1940-2014)

by Editor@juxtapoz.com (Alex Nicholson)
RIP The Great H.R. Giger (1940-2014)
We were sad to hear this morning that renowned Swiss artist H.R. Giger has passed away. Most well known for designing the monster and sets for Ridley Scott's "Alien," Giger influenced a generation of artists and filmmakers. Giger's work melded and combined mechanical, machine and human elements into nightmarish creatures, creating surrealist images in a style he described as "biomechanical" or "biomechanoids."

A Runaway Bouncy Castle Blew 50 Feet Into The Air With Three Children Inside

Thankfully the children fell out of the castle before the wind blew it away completely.

Three children from upstate New York were inside a bouncy castle when the play structure was swept away by a gust of wind Monday.

Two boys, 5 and 6, and a girl, 10, fell from the structure before it was completely blown away. One of the boys fell from the inflatable playhouse to the asphalt below from at least 15 feet above ground. And the other boy fell onto a parked car. The 10-year-old suffered only minor scrapes.

The boys, 5 and 6, were rushed to Albany Medical Center, where they were treated for serious injuries. Both boys are kindergarteners at Harrison Avenue Elementary School.

As the bouncy castle was taken away by the wind, a witness took the terrifying picture above. According to spokesperson for the South Glens Falls Police, the bouncy castle was found in a field behind a nearby middle school.

The parent who set up the bouncy castle told reporters she staked it to the ground, but the wind seemed to yank out the stakes.

Sargon is an adorable red tabby who really, really loves his spoons. According to his human, Sargon has been fascinated by spoons since he was a kitten.

As a young kitten, he was fascinated by the spoon his humans used to prepare his food. But it was not the food that thrilled him. It is the spoon itself. He does all kinds of things with it. He loves to fetch it when the humans throw it away from him. He tries to catch it, when the humans throw it anywhere close to him. He never lost his love for this toy. And it is still the same spoon he started with…

Jack McBrayer and Triumph the Insult Comic Dog to Team Up for a New Comedy Series on Adult Swim

by Justin Page

Jack McBrayer & Triumph Visit Chicago's Weiner's Circle

Adult Swim has recently announced that they are planning to bring together actor Jack McBrayer and Triumph the Insult Comic Dog for a new, currently untitled, buddy comedy series that would be added to their 2014-2015 programming schedule. According to The Hollywood Reporter, “unlike most everything in the Adult Swim live-action roster, it will air as a half-hour.”

UNTITLED TRIUMPH/MCBRAYER SITCOM – Jack (McBrayer) is a former child star of a popular Lassie-type series that ran in the ’80s and ’90s. After it was cancelled, his crude but beloved co-star (Triumph) spiraled into decadence and got Jack in trouble with him. 15 years later, with Jack finally self-sufficient, happy, and away from show business, Triumph finds his way back into Jack’s life. This new half-hour live-action comedy series is created by Robert Smigel (SNL, TV Funhouse, Conan), Michael Koman (Eagleheart, Nathan For You) and David Feldman (Real Time, Dennis Miller Live), starring Emmy®-nominee Jack McBrayer (30 Rock) and Triumph the Insult Comic Dog (Conan), produced by Poochie Doochie Productions and Universal Television.

Here is a video from 2012 of Jack McBrayer and Triumph visiting Chicago’s Weiner’s Circle on Conan:

Not-A-Camera, A Camera Designed to Look Like a Fake 2D Camera Made of Wood

by Rollin Bishop

Not-A-Camera Camera

Not-A-Camera is a project by Olivia Barr that’s a real camera that looks like a fake 2D camera made of wood. The project consists of a spy camera situated within a piece of solid walnut that’s only half an inch thick. Not-A-Camera can take both images and video, and Barr has a series of both up on a Tumblr from various artists that took the camera for a spin.

Not-A-Camera is available for purchase via Etsy.

I originally made NOT-A-CAMERA as a gift for my grandma, Olivia Barr, who is 101 years old. I’m named after her and the third generation Olivia in my family. She started taking photos in her 90s and I wanted to make her a camera that was light and easy to use.

Flawless legend Cher contributed vocals to TWO songs for the new Wu-Tang Clan album, Once Upon A Time in Shaolin .

A rep for Cher confirmed to Rolling Stone that the goddess' vocals are on two tracks. Wu-Tang teased her appearance on their website using her pseudonym Bonnie Jo Mason, which she used in 1964 when she released her first solo single, "Ringo, I Love You." She didn't actually hang out in the studio with Wu-Tang, though: “She recorded her parts separately, so I don’t believe there was direct interaction,” said the rep.

58 Facts You Probably Didn't Know About The Star Wars Movies

Mrdesplaines

come on.. i knew over half of these..

May the facts be with you.

1. The actor who played Obi-Wan Kenobi, Alec Guiness, thought of the Star Wars films as "fairy-tale rubbish".

2. Despite this, he negotiated a deal to earn 2% of the gross box office receipts for the movies he appeared in, earning him over $95 million.

3. Harrison Ford was paid $10,000 for his performance in Star Wars: Episode IV - A New Hope.

4. Peter Cushing, who played Grand Moff Tarkin, found his costume boots so uncomfortable that he wore slippers during many of his scenes, and insisted his feet just never be in the shots.

Via movieramblings.com

5. The sound of the TIE Fighter engines is actually the sound of an elephant call mixed with the sounds of a car driving on wet pavement.

6. Steven Spielberg made a bet with George Lucas for a percentage of the Star Wars films, which has earned him millions of dollars since.

7. While shooting the scene in the trash compactor, Mark Hamill held his breath for so long that he burst a blood vessel in the side of his face. They had to adjust framing while shooting the rest of the scene to avoid showing the blemish.

8. Many of the buildings constructed to be used in shots of Tatooine are still standing in Tunisia. In fact, some of them are still used by locals.

Gene Wilder Talks About Acting, Comedy and Playing Willie Wonka In 2007 Interview Animated By PBS

by Lori Dorn

In the most recent episode of the PBS animated series “Blank on Blank“, actor and comedian Gene Wilder talks about acting, comedy and his requirements for playing the role of Willie Wonka during a 2007 interview with author Letty Cottin Pogrebin at the 92nd Street Y in New York City.

Gene Wilder: I was offered the part of Willy Wonka in Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory. When the director came to my house I said: “Well I like the script except when the audience sees Willy Wonka for the first time, I want to come out of the door with a cane and limp my way to the crowd. And they are like: ‘Oh, Willy Wonka, oh he is a cripple. Oh, my god, who thought…. I never knew that.’ And they quiet down, quiet down and Willy Wonka’s cane gets stuck in a brick and he starts to fall forward and he does a forward somersault and jumps up and the crowd cheers and applauds.” And the director said: “What do you want to do that for?” I said: “because from that time on no one will know whether I’m lying or telling the truth.” He said: “you mean if i say no, you won’t do the picture?” I said: “I’m afraid that’s the truth.”

The full interview can be viewed via 92Y On Demand.
