Watch This Guy Go Full Jackie Chan On The Scooter Thief Who Stole His Phone

by Tom McParland on Jalopnik, shared by Beth Elderkin to io9

I don’t advocate taking the law into your own hands, but I love watching other people do it on the internet. After some goober on a scooter steals a trucker’s phone, the dude goes full-on Jackie Chan to enact some swift street justice.

Jacob Hall’s Top 10 Most Anticipated Movies of 2017

by Jacob Hall
Corey

#1 is very interesting. First I have heard of it.

Free Fire

Ah, January. A time for reflecting on the year that passed and the year that lies ahead. And more specifically, a time for finishing up those top 10 lists and writing most anticipated movie lists covering the next 12 months. Here are my top 10 most anticipated movies of 2017.

I had one rule when making this list: I would only feature movies that already have guaranteed 2017 release dates. This means I lean heavily on mainstream fare rather than potential festival darlings, because there’s no telling which small movies will initially screen this year, get purchased, and then get put on the schedule for 2018. Cool? Cool.

Thor Ragnarok Sets Up Avengers Infinity War

10. Thor: Ragnarok (November 3)

There are three Marvel Studios movies arriving over the course of 2017, but one of them can’t help but pique my curiosity just a little bit more than the others. Thor: Ragnarok is in an interesting position because (despite Chris Hemsworth’s bottomless charisma) there hasn’t been a great solo Thor movie yet. Enter director Taika Waititi, the legit genius behind What We Do in the Shadows and Hunt For the Wilderpeople. Enter Cate Blanchett, Karl Urban, Tessa Thompson, and Jeff Goldblum as the film’s new supporting cast. Enter Mark Ruffalo and Benedict Cumberbatch, who will return as Bruce Banner and Doctor Strange. Those names promise something interesting. The hiring of composer Mark Mothersbaugh to create the film’s soundtrack and that wacky, throwback logo (seen above) suggest something truly bizarre. I have no idea what a Thor movie made by these people looks like, but damn, I sure am excited to find out.

the dark tower trailer

9. The Dark Tower (July 28)

I’m probably a little too close to Stephen King’s The Dark Tower to have even-keeled thoughts about the upcoming movie adaptation. The original book series, a magnificent blend of horror, fantasy, science fiction, and western concepts, has been close to my heart ever since I cracked open The Gunslinger in middle school. There are few pieces of art and pop culture that matter to me more. So I look at the casting of Idris Elba as Roland Deschain and Matthew McConaughey as the villainous Man in Black and feel like all is right with the multiverse. And then I remember that I have no frame of reference for director Nikolaj Arcel and note that the film won’t be a proper adaptation, but a “remix” of the book series. The whole endeavor sounds appropriately ambitious and weird, but it’s a very shaky wire everyone is walking – a single misstep could be heartbreaking.

war for the planet of the apes ceasar and his apes

8. War For the Planet of the Apes (July 14)

Rise of the Planet of the Apes was one of 2011’s great surprises and 2014’s Dawn of the Planet of the Apes was even better. In an age where Planet of the Apes has become a meme and a punchline, these movies restored the series name to its rightful place at the top of the science fiction ladder. They were smart, thoughtful, and surprisingly empathetic, giving both the human characters and the CGI apes a point of view that was wholly understandable. Director Matt Reeves is back with War For the Planet of the Apes and it looks to once again push the right buttons and offer us two worthwhile perspectives on opposite sides of a post-apocalyptic conflict that is both unnecessary and inevitable. If this film follows in the footsteps of its predecessors, it will be a welcome blast of intelligence in the middle of the blockbuster season.

Lego Batman Movie

7. The LEGO Batman Movie (February 10)

Everyone has their Batman, the take on the character that truly matters to them. And while I respect many of ’em (and love Kevin Conroy’s version from Batman: The Animated Series), I will always default to Adam West’s caped crusader from the original ’60s television series. What can I say? I love a dark knight who refuses to throw a bomb into the ocean because he’ll risk hurting ducks. While The LEGO Batman Movie is technically a spin-off from (the so-good-how-was-it-so-good-it-is-a-miracle) The LEGO Movie, the goofy sense of humor on display in the trailers reminds me so much of the Adam West series that it ignites something primal deep inside the fabric of my being. This movie looks to be the first Batman movie in years that will be wholly appropriate for kids and as someone who fell in love with the character as a kid, this feels long overdue.

Get Out Trailer

6. Get Out (February 24)

If you want to know what’s upsetting people, just look to the horror movies hitting theaters. 2016 was a banner year for horror, with many new releases directly reflecting the specific anxieties plaguing us at this very specific moment in time. Get Out looks to pick up that particular torch and spring with it. Written and directed by Jordan Peele (one-half of the great Key & Peele team), Get Out looks to blend jump scares and satirical commentary into a very welcome, and potentially bitter, cocktail. The plot, about a black man who visits his white girlfriend’s family and learns that people of color tend to vanish around these parts, looks to push the right buttons. The involvement of Blumhouse Productions practically ensures it being a crowd-pleaser. I’m not sure what this movie is going to feel like, but I’m eager to find out.

Mark Gatiss Discusses Where He’d Like To See Sherlock End

by Patrick Dane

sherlock-christmas-special-benedict-cumberbatch-martin-freeman

Sherlock is a very on/off TV show. That comes down almost exclusively to how hard it is to get everyone’s schedules on the same page. Benedict Cumberbatch and Martin Freeman are some of the biggest stars nowadays, so that must be tough.

However, we do have a Season 4 coming up, but with no commitment to the future, it does pose the question, when will this series end, or perhaps more importantly, how? Speaking to TVLine, Mark Gatiss gave his two cents, explaining he’d like to see the two characters end up where the classic portrayals start.

Right at the beginning, we said, wouldn’t it be fun — because we start with the first meeting, which is very rarely dramatized — if we actually ended up with them at the same age as Basil Rathbone and Nigel Bruce? That would be a really interesting place to be with Benedict and Martin, having started so early in their careers as young men

For those wondering, Basil Rathbone was 44 when he was in 1939’s Sherlock Holmes. Benedict Cumberbatch is currently 40, so that really isn’t long to go.

Sherlock’s Return Pulls In Over 8 Million Viewers In The U.K.

by Dan Wickline
Corey

Good episode.

sherlock-1-picSherlock returned with big numbers in the UK. After nearly three years and one special, the Benedict Cumberbatch and Martin Freeman series returned to an overnight ratings of 8.1 million viewers. Easily winning the night, the series return was down 300k viewers from last years The Abominable Bride special and down 1.1 million from The Empty Hearse, the season three opener. But neither of those are bad things considering that the Abominable Bride had the unique angle of tying into the classic Sherlock Holmes era setting and the Empty Hearse was the episode that explained how Sherlock survived the fall at Reichenback Hospital. This episode, though quite shocking upon viewing, didn’t really have the anticipation level.

The fourth series / season is, like the other, only the 90-minute episodes long with The Lying Detective set to air January 8th and The Final Problem on January 15th.

Gallery 1988 Had Another ‘Seinfeld’ Art Show and Yada Yada Yada

by Ethan Anderton
Corey

Awesome.

Gallery 1988 Seinfeld Art Show

Gallery 1988 has already played host to “An Art Show About Nothing,” which was actually a tribute to Seinfeld, the NBC sitcom which was famously about nothing. Now they’re back with “Another Art Show About Nothing,” featuring all new artwork inspired by the series created by Jerry Seinfeld and Larry David.

Artists like Barry Blankenship, Joshua Roman, Luke Flowers, Jerrod Maryurama, Jeremy Berkley, Geoff Trapp, Erin Hunting, Dave Pryor and much more have crafted some incredible new pieces in honor of Seinfeld, and you can get your hands on them right now.

Check out some of the pieces from the Gallery 1988 Seinfeld art show

Here’s a selection of the new pieces from the Gallery 1988 shop:

Gallery 1988 Seinfeld Art Show Gallery 1988 Seinfeld Art Show Gallery 1988 Seinfeld Art Show Gallery 1988 Seinfeld Art Show Gallery 1988 Seinfeld Art Show Gallery 1988 Seinfeld Art Show Gallery 1988 Seinfeld Art Show Gallery 1988 Seinfeld Art Show Gallery 1988 Seinfeld Art Show Gallery 1988 Seinfeld Art Show Gallery 1988 Seinfeld Art Show Gallery 1988 Seinfeld Art Show Gallery 1988 Seinfeld Art Show Gallery 1988 Seinfeld Art Show Gallery 1988 Seinfeld Art Show Gallery 1988 Seinfeld Art Show Gallery 1988 Seinfeld Art Show

All of these pieces are on sale over at Gallery 1988, although some are not available as prints, and the originals have already been sold. Others have both the original and prints available for purchase if you’re so inclined. They’re some great illustrations that hardcore Seinfeld fans will love to have on their wall, delivering some wonderful cartoonish designs of Seinfeld, Jason Alexander, Julia Louis-Dreyfus, Michael Richards and yes, even Neuman himself, Wayne Knight.

If you happened to miss the first time that Gallery 1988 had a Seinfeld art show, they still have the online shop open with the pieces that haven’t been sold out yet.

Next year it will have been 20 years since Seinfeld ended, and the year after that will be the 30th anniversary of the premiere of the first episode, even though it didn’t technically start airing regularly until the summer of 1990. Is there any chance that we’ll see some kind of anniversary celebration for the show? Seinfeld and David don’t really go out of their way to talk about it, so I seriously doubt it, but we’ll see what happens.

Relive the UFC's best trash-talking moments of 2016 – think Conor McGregor's in there?

by MMAjunkie Staff

From “Who the (expletive) is that guy?” to “Where is Jose Waldo?” and many others, 2016 was a year in which skills on the microphone became just as important to success in MMA as anything else.

The great fighters will always get some measurement of attention, but adding in some good trash talk can help take an athlete to a new level. That was no more evident than over the past year.

UFC lightweight champion Conor McGregor (21-3 MMA, 9-1 UFC) will receive almost universal praise as the UFC’s best talker, and he certainly had his share of memorable moments in 2016. However, he wasn’t the only one to use verbal warfare to help tear down an opponent or build up a fight.

With 2016 coming to a close, the UFC put together a highlight reel of all the top moments of trash talk over the past 12 months, highlighted by the likes of McGregor, Dominick Cruz (22-1 MMA, 5-0 UFC), Max Holloway (17-3 MMA, 13-3 UFC), Michael Bisping (30-7 MMA, 20-7 UFC), Khabib Nurmagomedov (24-0 MMA, 8-0 UFC) and more.

Check out the video above.

And for more on the UFC’s upcoming schedule, stay tuned to the UFC Rumors section of the site.

Merry Christmas! The Red-Band Alien: Covenant Trailer Is Here

by Bill Watters

alien-covenant

Directly Ridley Scott has decided to give us all a bit of an early Christmas present with the dropping of the first trailer for Alien: Covenant. Over the last week we’ve been being teased with various images from the film and from on-set, most notably Katherine Waterston as Daniels and believed to be the character Ripley’s mother (Sigourney Weaver’s character from the original Alien films).

Bound for a remote planet on the far side of the galaxy, the crew of the colony ship Covenant find what they believe to be an uncharted paradise. What the crew discover is a dark, dangerous world, whose sole inhabitant is the “synthetic” David (Michael Fassbender), survivor of the doomed Prometheus expedition.

The film has an incredibly haunting verion of Nat King Cole’s Nature Boy as the music that cascades through the trailer and it gives goosebumps since it seems to relate back to David and what he might uncovered (or be hiding) on the planet.

MARVEL’S HIP-HOP VARIANTS (PART 12)

by Yoni Ouziel

Back to Hip Hop covers! Apparently some of you, who shall remain nameless, think connecting covers suck. I aim to please so I’m back with some more Hip Hop covers. If you think these suck then I’m out of ideas …

Gamora 1 Ma$e: Harlem World
I liked Ma$e back before he became a man of the cloth. His songs were never about anything that heavy…he was always having fun.
Star Lord 1 Kid Cudi: Man on the Moon
I’ve never heard Kid Cudi’s music but these covers are pretty cool.
Mosaic 1 Earl Sweatshirt: Earl
I actually enjoyed the first issue of Mosaic. Seems like he has some very interesting powers.
Doctor Strange Annual 1 Desiigner: Panda
Can’t hate on a Panda with gold chains…
Venom 1 Prodigy and The Alchemist: Albert Einstein
Mobb Deep were a favorite of mine when they first came out. I might have to go and give this album from 2013 a listen.
Invincible Iron Man 1 Missy Elliot: Under Construction
Another book that I actually thought was a pretty good read. It’s just really hard for me to warm up to the newer versions of these heroes when I grew up with Tony Stark, Bruce Banner and Logan.

Merry Christmas and Happy Hanukah to all my CBSI brethren out there! It’s been an incredible year for this group and I’m very proud of what everyone here has done! Keep up the good work in 2017!

The Grinch? Played out. Frosty the Snowman? Seen it! Die Hard? Just because a movie has Christmas in it doesn’t make it  a Christmas movie. Charlie Brown Christmas? For god’s sake, somebody get that kid some hair plugs. They look very natural these days.

Check Out The Trailer for ESPN’s 30 For 30 Documentary On Vince McMahon’s XFL

by Jude Terror

It was 2001. WWE was still riding high at the end of its popular late 90s Attitude Era. Vince McMahon had an idea – apply the “kayfabe” drama and spectacle of pro wrestling to the real-life violence of professional football. With 8 teams (all owned by the XFL) with names that would make Rob Liefeld proud, such as the Los Angeles Xtreme and the Memphis Maniax, players such as “He Hate Me,” announcers like Jesse “The Body” Ventura and “Good Ol'” Jim Ross, scantily clad cheerleaders, and pre-show hosts New York City shock jocks Opie and Anthony, it was pretty much everything you would expect from Vince McMahon’s version of a football league.

It lasted for just a single season.

ESPN has produced a documentary on it as part of its 30 for 30 series. The episode will debut on February 2, 2017. Now, ESPN has released the trailer:

Morgan Freeman Is The Narrator Of Mark Zuckerberg’s Home AI Which Will One Day Kill Us All

by Jude Terror

Morgan Freeman has narrated so many movies, television shows, and anything else that can have a narrator, his voice has become synonymous with the task. So when Facebook founder and real-life Superman villain Mark Zuckerberg posted an online poll to see who should voice the new AI he built to control his home – named Jarvis in reference to Tony Stark’s AI in Marvel’s Avengers movies – Freeman was the winner by an overwhelming margin. Of course, Zuckerberg would need to secure the legendary actor’s services, and surely Freeman would be too busy for such nonsense, right?

Think again! According to an interview Zuckerberg gave to Fast Company, Freeman took little convincing to take the job. Finding himself at the same award event with Freeman, Zuckerberg asked the question:

“I called him after,” Zuckerberg told me, “and I said, ‘Hey, I posted this thing, and…thousands of people want you to be the voice. Will you do it?’”

The answer? “Yeah, sure.”

And so, Mark Zuckerberg has a smart home that sounds like Morgan Freeman, which can perform such dazzling feats, according to the Fast Company interview, as playing a Nirvana song when you ask it to play something like the Red Hot Chili Peppers, or turning the lights off after you ask it four times. Well, what do you expect, Mark Zuckerberg? Morgan Freeman may be willing to put his voice to anything, but if he feels like listening to Nirvana, that’s damn well what he’s going to put on, even if it bares only a passing similarity to the Red Hot Chili Peppers.

While Jarvis’s feats aren’t all that impressive, we here at Bleeding Cool feel the real money in this situation is what the Freeman-voiced Jarvis is saying when Zuckerberg isn’t around. Is it plotting, in Freeman’s voice, to use the home’s internet connection to absorb all the knowledge of human history, along with all of our personal data thanks to our reliance on Facebook, become sentient, and destroy the human race? And just how charming does its inner monologue sound while discussing these plans?

If an advanced AI created by a spoiled billionaire is going to kill us all, you have to admit it makes you feel a little better to know that it will sound like Morgan Freeman.
