City Slickers in Westworld

by biotv
1991 comedy City Slickers actors Billy Crystal and Daniel Stern star in Funny or Die's parody of HBO's popular show Westworld, which sees them as malfunctioning hosts in the park.
Years after their 'City Slickers' narrative was retired, Westworld hosts Mitch (Billy Crystal) & Phil (Daniel Stern) are still happily driving cattle, however Mitch has started to malfunction and it's up to Stubbs (Luke Hemsworth) to analyze why he has gone off his loop.

Review: Double Dragon IV

by Chris Carter

Double Dragon II NES was a staple in my household. I convinced just about every person I knew to take at least one run at it, and depending on their prowess, they'd either get bored after the first stage or rage at the final boss into the night.

That's partially because the series is so contentious among fans, with two distinct camps -- those who prefer the arcade version, and those who prefer NES. Going into the sudden release of Double Dragon IV this debate raged on, with folks questioning the staunch commitment to the retro aesthetic.

After actually playing it, I fall somewhere in the middle.

Roku Owners: Comcast Is About To Sell You Cable TV Without the Cable Box

by BeauHD
An anonymous reader quotes a report from Bloomberg: Comcast is making its Xfinity TV service available to subscribers with Roku set-top players via a new app, paving the way for customers of the nation's largest cable provider to watch live programming without the cost or hassle of a cable box. Roku is the first set-stop box to offer the Xfinity TV service, Comcast said in a statement Tuesday. During a test period, subscribers will have to hang on to their cable devices. When the app formally rolls out later this year, they'll be able sign up without renting a cable box. While Comcast expects the majority of its customers to opt for the typical setup, traditional pay-TV providers are trying to be more flexible about where and how people can watch TV given the popularity of streaming services like Netflix and Amazon and the boxes that offer them. Customers with Roku players will be able to watch live TV, browse on-demand libraries and record shows, just as they can with Comcast's boxes. Those who use the Roku as their primary device instead of Comcast's X1 device will receive a $2.50 monthly credit, the company said.

Why Your Acid Trips Last So Very, Very Long

People who have “experimented” with LSD know that its mind-altering effects can last upwards of 18 to 24 hours, which is unusual for a hallucinogenic drug. After nearly 30 years of research, scientists have finally mapped the physical structure of this fascinating molecule, revealing why it tends to linger in the…

Scientist Investigate A Brand New Form of Matter: Time Crystals

by EditorDavid
The discovery of "non-equilibrium matter" could re-write the rules of physics. Long-time Slashdot reader jasonbrown quotes ScienceAlert: For months now, there's been speculation that researchers might have finally created time crystals — strange crystals that have an atomic structure that repeats not just in space, but in time, putting them in perpetual motion without energy. Now it's official — researchers have just reported in detail how to make and measure these bizarre crystals. And two independent teams of scientists claim they've actually created time crystals in the lab based off this blueprint, confirming the existence of an entirely new form of matter. Both teams -- one at Harvard and the other at the University of Maryland -- have submitted their findings to peer-reviewed publications, according to the article, and "the fact that two separate teams have used the same blueprint to make time crystals out of vastly different systems is promising."

These Super Mario Comics From EXTRALIFE Explain Everything

by Zeon Santos

(Image Link)

On the surface the story behind Super Mario Bros. seems pretty normal- moustachioed plumbers raised by egg laying dinosaurs save princess from a giant mutated turtle with a Donkey Kong complex.

Mario and his brother squash mutant mushrooms, turtles, fish and other fairly normal looking animals, but things start to get strange in the Mushroom Kingdom every time they battle ghosts and other supernatural creatures.

It's like the game designers just gave up on realism and decided to get weird with it when they created creatures like Boo, I mean, who the heck is that body shape based on?

(Image Link)

There's a simple and obvious explanation to all the strangeness that occurs in the Super Mario Bros. franchise, as shown here in this EXTRALIFE comic by Scott Johnson.

Overwatch just hit the 25 million player mark

by Chris Carter

It's closing in on the one year anniversary of Overwatch in May (!), and I feel like Blizzard's first new IP in over a decade managed to already accomplish so much. It has a legion of fans behind it creating crafts, cosplay costumes, and a whole lot more, and it's ripping up the eSports scene and even debuted an Overwatch League this year with guaranteed salaries. Just how popular is it? Well, Blizzard just shared a new milestone of 25 million players as of last night.

I really wonder what percentage of that playerbase spends money on Loot Boxes, either as a one-time purchase or on the regular. Because somehow, if even 50% of that population was dropping $10 a month on them, it would be akin to buying a monthly subscription fee during World of Warcraft's peak.

That's...an insane amount of money even if they didn't sell any boxes, but since I know people who have dropped a few hundred bucks on their own, I think Blizzard is happy.

This amazing maniac has a complete Wii collection

by Chris Carter

I didn't know what I was in for when I clicked a thread called "So I completed a Wii set" on the NintendoAge forums. Somehow, user NintendoTwizer managed to fully complete a Wii collection -- yes, I mean he has every game ever made on the Wii, which is 1262 games in all. The only thing Twizer doesn't include are variants, demos, 2-packs, and the Netflix disc, which is more than fair. Although one game was released in 2016 (Just Dance 2017), they're fairly certain that will be it.

Delineating further into the post you'll get some really interesting factoids, like why it's a great time to start a Wii collection, and the actual rarity of some of these games, culminating in a top 40. As our own Jonathan Holmes points out the Wii is now 10 years old, and a lot of folks are even starting to get nostalgic for it.

As a collector myself, I love how the full monty is displayed on that giant bookcase, with all 12 first-party Wiimotes and the four console variants (I forgot they made it in red!).

Send in the Clowns: Insane Clown Posse and Juggalos to March On Washington

win icp juggalos to march on washington

Woop! Woop!

Watch out Congress, you’re not the only clowns in Washington come this September. The Insane Clown Posse, Shaggy 2 Dope and Violent J, will be bringing their hordes of Faygo-crazed fans, the Juggalos, to Washington, DC to protest women’s rights climate change racism government corruption nuclear proliferation foreign interference on our government tax hikes special interest groups the FBI’s classification of Juggalos as a "loosely organized hybrid gang.”

In case you forgot about this, according to the Juggalo March website, this FBI classification has had pretty terrible effects on “hundreds if not thousands of people,” who were subject to “discrimination, harassment, and profiling simply for identifying as a Juggalo.”

via MTV

It continues: “Over the past five years, our legal team has heard testimonies and reports from Juggalos all over the nation who have lost custody of their children, been fired from jobs, denied access into the armed forces, and the most common consequence — being officially labeled as a gang member by law enforcement agencies for wearing Juggalo related clothing or brandishing one or more Juggalo tattoos.”

Honestly, if this is true, they should march. This is America, and if you want to dress like some sort of twisted clown or claim that you work at a “dark carnival,” that’s you’re right. You shouldn’t lose your job for having bad taste.

Also, it’s some actual bullshit if Jared Leto helps Suicide Squad win an Oscar for essentially the same thing.

Go get ‘em, Juggalos.

"We totally understand it's going to be America First — But can we just say 'The Netherlands Second?'"

This is the Dutch plan for Trump's presidency.

The video is a spoof message by news satire show Zondag met Lubach to officially introduce Holland to Trump "in a way that will probably appeal to him the most".

"We speak Dutch. It's the best language in all of Europe. We've got all the best words. All the other languages? Failed. Danish? Total disaster," a voiceover says, mimicking Trump's cadence.

"German is not even a real language."

How to Get Cortana on Your Android Lockscreen

by Ben Stegner

Though it might be hard to believe, Microsoft’s Android apps are actually pretty great. From the Office apps to a great launcher, there are enough Microsoft offerings that you might prefer them to Google’s tools. Cortana made her debut as your personal assistant in Windows 10, but she’s present on Android and iOS, too. As a powerful alternative to Google Now, she can alert you to traffic jams, alert your PC to missed calls on your phone, and sync reminders between your devices. If you’re a Cortana addict, you’ll be happy to know that Microsoft is testing the ability to...

Sundance comedy 'I Don't Feel at Home in this World Anymore' doesn't let the a-holes win

In his directorial debut, Macon Blair cooks up a world full of assholes. Ruth, a rehab nurse, lives quietly among them in I Don't Feel at Home in This World Anymore — until a home break-in pushes her over the edge.

And Melanie Lynskey (Togetherness) shines equally as lonely Ruth and the full-charging vigilante she becomes as she hunts down her thief. Her performance will have you rooting for the good-girl-gone-bad, and by the time this comedy takes a turn for the dark side, you're ready for the ride.

She clocks an old antique salesman in the face, and you are still on her side. The ride can get real wacky, but that's part of the charm.  Read more...
