Luxury Fashion Brand Offers a $1,790 Trash Bag

by John Farrier

Are you hauling your stuff around in an ordinary garbage bag while you couchsurf with a decreasing list of friends? Maybe you'd be more popular if you'd show that you are fashion conscious. Try the luxury trash bag by Balenciaga, the Parisian fashion house that offers the finest in shoes, dresses, and trash delivery mechanisms.

The New York Post tells us that Balenciaga is offering the "Trash Pouch" for its winter 2022 line. The resemblance is no coincidence. We know this because the company states directly that the design is "inspired by a garbage bag". It comes in a variety of colors, but you can't go wrong with basic black.

Netflix is adding residential IP addresses to its VPN blocklists

by Jim Salter
The privacy and access wars waged between consumers and content providers don't seem likely to abate any time soon.

Netflix blocks known commercial VPNs and proxies from accessing its services in order to preserve its geofencing—partitioning access to content based on a user's real-world location. Users who connect to a commercial VPN or proxy provider endpoint in another country can access content licensed for viewing in the endpoint country—but not in the viewer's own.

Recently, as reported by TorrentFreak, Netflix began including putatively residential IP subnets in its blocklists.

Cat and mouse

Since Netflix first began blocking commercial VPN and proxy providers in 2015, those services have fought back by finding ways to evade its and other streaming services' blocking attempts. The simplest way is just to discard an existing subnet that's been widely identified as "VPN/proxy" and purchase another, "clean" space. This move can buy a blocklist evader a few days or even weeks before the new subnet is added to the list.

Recreating The Swanson from Parks and Recreation [Video]

by Geeks are Sexy

From Binging with Babish:

This week we return, for the first time in 3 years, to the house that built Babish: Parks and Rec. As summer (eventually) approaches, what could be better than celebrating Swanson-style: by wrapping some meat around some other meat. There’s only one problem: I can’t seem to stop using colons in this video’s description.

One Reason Tom King's Batman Run Is So Great Is That It's Inspired by Raiders of the Lost Ark

by James Whitbrook

Tom King’s nearly 60-issue run on Batman has been one of my favorite takes on the Dark Knight in years. King’s critical interrogation of the humanity buried beneath the bat cowl, and the indomitable power of Batman as a symbol are just a few of its myriad strengths, but others are down to a certain daring…

Solid Routine: Pole Dancer Eats A Piece Of Pizza On Stage

dancer-eats-pizza-on-stage.jpg Note: Probably not the best video to watch at work. At least not without inviting everyone over first. This is a video of dancer Lilly Moon (who also posted the video) eating a large slice of pizza on stage before handing the crust to some guy to finish and proceeding to dance the pole at Jumbo's Clown Room in Hollywood, California (which isn't so much a strip club as a rock-and-roll bikini bar with alternative dancers -- I had a friend go once). She makes a lot of money eating that pizza too! If I could make that much money eating pizza I would definitely be living my best life. Maybe even work a little ranch and spicy red pepper flakes into my routine. Does that sound like something you might be interested in tipping to see? "No." What about garlic knots? "No." Okay how about lasagna instead? "Go on." Get out of here, Garfield! Keep going for the video.

The Real-Life Atari Secret That Inspired Ready Player One

HP’s new 15-inch Spectre x360 uses the hybrid Intel/AMD processor

by Peter Bright

Enlarge (credit: HP)

We're fans of HP's Spectre range, and the 15-inch model is finally getting its turn to be refreshed to Intel's latest and greatest processors at this year's CES.

The new Spectre x360 15 is one of the first systems to be announced that uses the new Kaby Lake-G processors from Intel. These processors combine an Intel CPU (with its own integrated GPU) with an AMD GPU, all within a single package.

While Intel has positioned the Kaby Lake-G as a gaming chip—the company's benchmark scores are all games—the Spectre x360 15 doesn't have the usual bright LEDs and garish design of gaming systems. It uses HP's "Dark Ash Silver" with "Copper Luxe Accents" color scheme that we've seen on a few of the company's machines over the last few years. The color scheme is attractive and serious, but with enough accents to add visual interest.

Designing a Well-Lived Life

by zenhabits
By Leo Babauta

Where I live, the weather has grown colder, and the trees are becoming barren — what I consider the perfect time for reflection and contemplation.

It’s the perfect time of the year to reflect on what a well-lived life might be for you. And then start designing that life, mapping out some actions you might take to create it.

What does a well-lived life mean to you? Is it necessary to shoot for some grand life purpose in order to live life well? Is living a well-lived life about maximizing pleasures and luxuries?

Or can we live well and find contentment no matter what we’re doing?

I’m a fan of going whole-heartedly after a life mission myself, but I don’t think everyone needs one. You can find contentment working in your garden, reading a good novel, being with your kids, having a meal with friends. You can find contentment doing the work you already do.

I’m a fan of exploring the world, but you don’t need to travel or rack up incredible life experiences in order to live well. You can explore the world right where you are, going deeper instead of wider, learning and connecting to others and finding meaning in whatever you do.

For me, a well-lived life might mean that we work towards:

  • Creating mindfulness in your life, and learning to be more present
  • Finding compassion for yourself, and learning to love yourself more
  • Creating deeper connections to other people
  • Connecting your daily actions to meaning
  • Creating wellness

But as we work towards these, we can find beauty and joy right now, in who we are, in what we’re doing. There isn’t a magical destination in the future where things are better. It’s always pretty much as good as it is right now — if we don’t like this moment, it’s because we’re selectively seeing the parts we don’t like. Instead, we can learn to appreciate everything (even the parts we don’t like) and find the wonder in each moment.

I encourage you to spend some time this week thinking about what a well-lived life means for you — perhaps go for a walk, even in the cold, and contemplate what that might look like. The cold, I’ve found, is something we shrink from … but I now see it as a gift, reminding us we’re alive, helping us to eliminate frivolities and figure out what’s essential. When it’s cold, you are brought back to the present, and you have to focus. At least, that’s what I’ve been finding.

My New Course: Designing a Well-Lived Life

I’ve decided to create a new course, called Designing a Well-Lived Life, for my Sea Change Program this month.

In this course, we’ll spend some time reflecting on what makes a well-lived life … but we’ll also start designing that life for ourselves, and mapping out the next year so we can start to create that life (or be happier with the one we have already).

Here are the lessons:

  1. Connecting to Something Meaningful
  2. Living Mindfully with Appreciation for Life
  3. Navigating Uncertainty
  4. Creating Wellness
  5. Connecting to Others
  6. Focusing on the Essential
  7. Letting Go & Acceptance
  8. Radical Self-Acceptance

I’m would love to work on this with you guys!

I’ll be publishing two video lessons a week (I started this week), doing a live video webinar on Dec. 13, and asking you to consider your life in the areas described in the lesson titles above.

Join Sea Change today to start the course.

Redditors Share Their "They Were Attractive Until..." Stories About People They've Dated

by Zeon Santos

Don't let people who claim they don't care about looks fool you- good looking people get all the breaks in life, and the lovelorn will often go to extremes to make an impression on someone they find physically attractive.

He took his shirt off, and he had a tattoo of a tarantula on his abdomen.

I have severe arachnophobia.

It was a bad night for both of us.   -via choixpeau

And yet there are limits to a person's attractiveness, limits usually reached when a hottie does or says something horrendous, and once the smitten party reaches their limit they discover pretty people can turn ugly in a flash.

She was attractive until I went to her house.

I was seeing this girl for a couple of weeks, and it seemed like we were hitting it off. She was witty, pretty, and seemed genuinely nice. On our third date, she invites me back to her place, and I agree because duh.

We walk up her driveway, and as she's unlocking the door, she mentions that her house is "a little messy." So I'm expecting a place that looks actually lived in. I grew up in a pretty messy house, so I tell her not to worry, I'm sure it's fine.

She opens up the door, turns on the light, and what I see next will haunt me for the rest of my life. She was one of the worst hoarders I've ever seen. Wall to wall stacks of flattened cardboard boxes and other useless s#%t, with just a narrow pathway zigzagging through the living room. The walls looked like someone smeared a lasagna all over it several times and just let it dry. The carpet squished as I stepped inside. God only knows what that mystery liquid was. And the smell? Oh god, the smell. My sense of smell is usually pretty weak. I pretty much have to rub things in my nostrils to smell something, but I could smell her house. I could REALLY smell it, and suddenly I was really glad I normally can't smell things. I'm fairly certain some poor animal had died somewhere in the house.

I immediately turned around and noped outta there.    -via quiet_neighbor_kid

Sometimes this change of heart comes when the person says something stupid or acts like a jerk, other times things turn ugly when you finally go to their house for the first time. But worst of all are the fine looking folks who try to control you after just a few dates:

Started dating a guy and the first couple of dates were perfect. Third date he picks me up from my place, I was wearing a dress that was about two inches above knee length. Two minutes later he comments that it would've been more decent if my dress was knee-length and that he "would've demanded that I go back and change it if we were deeper into the relationship". I say "you know what, take me back home". His face lights up as he turns and starts driving back thinking I will be changing the dress.

As we arrive at my place I leave the car and tell him he can keep himself company for the rest of the night.

I Left the passenger's door open.    -via onebanginusernamepls
