$669 -- Iceland Spring Getaways from Edmonton, Save $950
By James McCloskey
EDMONTON--NOVEMBER 21, 2013-- Icelandair begins nonstop service to Reykjavik from Edmonton in March. To celebrate, the airline just launched a four-day sale on its Iceland Hot Spring tour.
This $669-per-person package including taxes saves more than $950 on putting this itinerary together independently. The deal includes:
Roundtrip nonstop flights to Reykjavik from Edmonton
Three nights at Hotel Reykjavik Natura
Guided Golden Circle day tour, including visits to hot springs regions and waterfalls
Admission to the Laugarvatn Fontana geothermal baths
The offer is available for departures March 8, 10; April 12, 14, 19, 21, 26 -- a good time of year to spot the famed Northern Lights. Surrounding dates are also discounted.
For more information about the package and to book, click below. The sale ends at 11:59 p.m. MT Sunday, but we suggest booking early as inventory is limited.
Note: The Northern Lights is a natural phenomenon, and sightings are not guaranteed.
Icelandair Hot Spring Offer
- This deal is available from Edmonton as well as Toronto for the same price and you can add on extra days starting at $45/pp.
- Cheapest trip from Edmonton is for 4 nights on March 10 for $756/pp ($669 + taxes).
- The hotel is located on the outskirts but is within a 20 minute walk to town. They also provide free bus passes at the front desk if you don't care for the exercise. Buses run every 20-30 minutes and stop right outside the hotel.(Tripadvisor reviews are generally pretty good).
- Buffet breakfast is available at the hotel for around $20/pp, there is also a tour desk inside where you can book additional excursions. Its probably cheaper to book them before you go.
- There may be an additional charge for Wifi/Spa use..?
- Roundtrip transfers via bus from the Keflavik airport to Reykjavik are $39 per person and can be added when booking. You can also rent a car at the airport if you choose to drive, you'll need to book that separately.
- Choosing different departure dates will give you different options for length (5/6/7 nights etc.). Toronto flights seem to be a day off of those leaving from Edmonton except on April 14, 2014.
- Average daytime temperature in Iceland ranges from 2-6C in April.
- Outbound flights are overnight - you lose 7 hours due to the time difference.
- From what I've read food prices are comparable to those in the UK so be prepared to have a bit of extra money in your budget for that.
- Make sure the Canadian flag is selected in the top middle of the main booking page to get prices in Canadian dollars.
- Quantities are limited, packages available while they last.
I checked the prices and the hotel alone on the week of April 14th, runs around $1500 for a week. Flights separately are ~$750 per person depending on departure and arrival dates/times. With this deal, you're pretty much getting a free hotel, a free tour and a discounted flight on top of that. Competition between Air Canada and Icelandair is win! Total package price for 2 adults, departing Edmonton on April 14th for 7 nights, including bus transfers & taxes was $1,833 for us.
