Icelandair released a fantastic deal for spring travel from Edmonton and Toronto yesterday. The trip includes flights, hotel and a tour of the hot springs, waterfalls and geothermal steam baths. Prices start at $669 per person + tax.

$669 -- Iceland Spring Getaways from Edmonton, Save $950
By James McCloskey

EDMONTON--NOVEMBER 21, 2013-- Icelandair begins nonstop service to Reykjavik from Edmonton in March. To celebrate, the airline just launched a four-day sale on its Iceland Hot Spring tour.

This $669-per-person package including taxes saves more than $950 on putting this itinerary together independently. The deal includes:

Roundtrip nonstop flights to Reykjavik from Edmonton
Three nights at Hotel Reykjavik Natura
Guided Golden Circle day tour, including visits to hot springs regions and waterfalls
Admission to the Laugarvatn Fontana geothermal baths

The offer is available for departures March 8, 10; April 12, 14, 19, 21, 26 -- a good time of year to spot the famed Northern Lights. Surrounding dates are also discounted.

For more information about the package and to book, click below. The sale ends at 11:59 p.m. MT Sunday, but we suggest booking early as inventory is limited.

Note: The Northern Lights is a natural phenomenon, and sightings are not guaranteed.

Icelandair Hot Spring Offer
A couple things to note:
  • This deal is available from Edmonton as well as Toronto for the same price and you can add on extra days starting at $45/pp.
  • Cheapest trip from Edmonton is for 4 nights on March 10 for $756/pp ($669 + taxes).
  • The hotel is located on the outskirts but is within a 20 minute walk to town. They also provide free bus passes at the front desk if you don't care for the exercise. Buses run every 20-30 minutes and stop right outside the hotel.(Tripadvisor reviews are generally pretty good).
  • Buffet breakfast is available at the hotel for around $20/pp, there is also a tour desk inside where you can book additional excursions. Its probably cheaper to book them before you go.
  • There may be an additional charge for Wifi/Spa use..?
  • Roundtrip transfers via bus from the Keflavik airport to Reykjavik are $39 per person and can be added when booking. You can also rent a car at the airport if you choose to drive, you'll need to book that separately.
  • Choosing different departure dates will give you different options for length (5/6/7 nights etc.). Toronto flights seem to be a day off of those leaving from Edmonton except on April 14, 2014.
  • Average daytime temperature in Iceland ranges from 2-6C in April.
  • Outbound flights are overnight - you lose 7 hours due to the time difference.
  • From what I've read food prices are comparable to those in the UK so be prepared to have a bit of extra money in your budget for that.
  • Make sure the Canadian flag is selected in the top middle of the main booking page to get prices in Canadian dollars.
  • Quantities are limited, packages available while they last.

I checked the prices and the hotel alone on the week of April 14th, runs around $1500 for a week. Flights separately are ~$750 per person depending on departure and arrival dates/times. With this deal, you're pretty much getting a free hotel, a free tour and a discounted flight on top of that. Competition between Air Canada and Icelandair is win! Total package price for 2 adults, departing Edmonton on April 14th for 7 nights, including bus transfers & taxes was $1,833 for us.

by Stryker
First saw this through Kayak, then confirmed at ITA Software using 14-21 days length of stay, and reconfirmed the sample date at the Copa Airlines website.

Sample date:

Depart Toronto (YYZ) January 24th and return from Lima, Peru (LIM) on February 13th for CAD $431 return (all in).

A few other departure dates scattered about the third and last week of January.

Next lowest airfare for Lima from Toronto is $840 with the U.S. airlines. Air Canada's fare is $844 return for this time period.

One layover in Panama (PTY).

Only downer is the layover time. 8 hour wait on the return flight from Lima for the sample I took.

Volkswagen Volksfest: Get up to $5000 in Cash Discounts on Select 2013 Models

Volkswagen Volksfest: Get up to $5000 in Cash Discounts on Select 2013 Models

If you've had your eye on a new Volkswagen, but haven't pulled the trigger just yet, they've brought back Volksfest for another month which might give you enough incentive to get a move on. For a limited time, you can get up to $5000 in cash discounts on select 2013 models which is nothing to sneeze at. Factor in the Volkswagen Owner's Discount of up to $1000 and you've got a pretty good reason to shop now. Discounts will vary by province but here's a look at what we've got over here in Ontario:

  • 2013 Passat - Up to $5000 in Cash Discounts + $750 Volkswagen Owner's Discount
  • 2013 Golf - Up to $3000 in Cash Discounts + $500 Volkswagen Owner's Discount
  • 2013 Golf Wagon - Up to $3000 in Cash Discounts + $500 Volkswagen Owner's Discount
  • 2013 Golf GTI - Up to $3000 Cash Discounts + $500 Volkswagen Owner's Discount
  • 2013 Touareg - Up to $2000 Cash Discounts + $1000 Volkswagen Owner's Discount
  • 2013 Eos - Up to $2000 Cash Discounts + $1000 Volkswagen Owner's Discount
  • 2013 CC - Up to $5000 Cash Discounts + $1000 Volkswagen Owner's Discount
  • The 2013 Beetle - Up to $1000 Cash Discounts + $500 Volkswagen Owner's Discount
  • The 2013 Beetle Convertible - Up to $1000 Cash Discounts + $500 Volkswagen Owner's Discount

With 2013 coming to an end, it's no surprise that car manufacturers are trying to make room for their new 2014 models. What this means for car buyers, simply, is a ton of savings which you'll want to keep in mind.

The deals are live now but, presumably, end beginning in December. If you're interested, you'll need to hit up your local VW dealer.

Toronto to Phoenix, Arizona | $285 roundtrip after taxes | direct flights

by chris_myden
torp8719

Hoover Dam

Horseshoe Bend, Arizona

Last night United Airlines dropped a whole wack of their airfares between Toronto and Phoenix by about 50%. The flights are actually operated by Air Canada (nicer planes) and are direct flights (non-stop).

For comparison, the next cheapest flights are with American Airlines, for $637 roundtrip after taxes. These flights are undercutting the closest competition by over 55% ! They are also the only direct flights on this route.

screenshot of cheapest flights to Phoenix, by airline:

The cheap flights look to be available on a fairly large variety of dates, between now and the first week of April 2014.

Here's what I've found to be the easiest way to browse and book these flights...

1. Go to www.United.ca (it's important to go to the .ca version of United's site, as the .com version sometimes has trouble processing Canadian credit cards)

2. From: Toronto (YYZ) to Phoenix (PHX)

3. Select the 'My Dates Are Flexible' bubble

3. Choose your depart Month

4. Choose the Length of Trip

5. Put a checkmark beside 'Nonstop flights only'

6. Hit Search

And then you will see a calendar like this, showing the roundtrip cost (after taxes & fees)

From here, you can also browse to a different month by clicking on the arrows, or change your length of stay parameter on the left.

When you see a date combo & price you like, just click on the price. On the resulting page, select your departing flight, hit Select, and then pick your returning flight.

When you get to the page that looks like this...

...just scroll down to the bottom and click on 'Continue to traveler information' to enter in your details and book the flight.

Being an unadvertised price drop, it's unfortunately difficult to say exactly how long United will keep the price this low. They entered it into their system late last night, and they typically stick around for 24-48 hours.

A big thanks to Neil in the YYZ Deals Facebook Group who spotted this fare virtually the moment it dropped late last night.

There are now nearly 8,000 travel junkies from Toronto in the YYZ group, sharing amazing travel advice and spotting only the truly great deals from YYZ. Go to http://www.facebook.com/groups/YYZdeals/ and click 'Join' to join the group.

Hit Like if you like this deal! Click Share to show your friends on Facebook.
