Toronto to Bangkok, Thailand - $934 roundtrip after taxes on Japan Airlines
Japan Airlines is currently showing some fares from Toronto (YYZ) to Bangkok, Thailand (BKK) for as cheap as $934 roundtrip after taxes.
This fare drop made me sit up and take notice for a few reasons...
1) They are the cheapest flights from Toronto to Thailand that I've ever blogged about.
2) The flights (which are on Japan Airlines) are cheaper than their next closest competitor by over 20%.
3) Japan Airlines is a more than decent airline that gets 4 stars over at airlinequality.com.
Typically the cheapest flights to Thailand are on Delta or United, both of which are just your standard 3-star U.S. based airline. These flights on JAL which is definitely a step up from either of those.
From what I've seen, the available cheap dates are sporadic, falling between September 2013 and January 2014.
Here are some example searches to get you started:
Sep 23 or 24 to Oct 9 - http://www.kayak.com/flights/#/YYZ-BKK/2013-09-25-flexible/2013-10-09-flexible
Oct 16 to Oct 30 - http://www.kayak.com/flights#/YYZ-BKK/2013-10-16/2013-10-30
Nov 3, 4, 5, or 6 to Nov 8 - http://www.kayak.com/flights/#/YYZ-BKK/2013-11-06-flexible/2013-11-20-flexible
Nov 13 to Nov 27 - http://www.kayak.com/flights/#/YYZ-BKK/2013-11-13-flexible/2013-11-27-flexible
Jan 08 to Jan 22 - http://www.kayak.com/flights/#/YYZ-BKK/2014-01-08-flexible/2014-01-22-flexible
I've found that to book the flights, you'll probably want to click through from Kayak to Flight Network. I've had the most success with the displayed price verifying on Flight Network for these flights. It seems to jump up a bit when clicking through to Expedia.
screenshot of verified price page from Flight Network:
UPDATE 1 - Japan Airlines prices have gone back up, but now United Airlines seems to have responded by offering flights for $920 roundtrip after taxes, on dates all the way up to February 2014. Here's an example search on Kayak... http://www.kayak.com/flights/YYZ-BKK/2014-02-12-flexible/2014-02-26-flexible

Air France Next Spring (YUL to IST, CDG to YUL) - ~$850
-Montreal to Istanbul, Paris to Montreal. April 28 to May 29 ($845) [Go to Kayak.com]
-Montreal to Istanbul, Paris to Montreal. April 28 to May 14 ($850) [Go to Kayak.com]
-Montreal to Athens, Paris to Montreal. April 28 to May 14 ($842) [Go to Kayak.com]
Seems if you fly into Istanbul or Athens and fly out of Paris, a lot of dates have pretty good deals (being it is Air France) for next Spring. End April to sometime in May.
Once easyJet releases their flight schedule for next spring / early summer you can get from Athens to Paris for pretty cheap (40 or so euros a ticket), but you'll have to book early. easyJet claims that they'll be releasing flight schedule for this time during the first week of September.
Hopefully this can help someone out.
