MikMikEternity gives us this wonderful custom Groot minifigure. The detail and sculpting are impressive. He says he sculpted the additional pieces and painted by hand. I love the weathered, wooden look and the subtle greenery all over Groot. There is so much character.

Ghostbusters coming to LEGO Dimensions! [News]
Caseymalone[sobbing]
Ghostbusters will be joining a host of other franchises in the upcoming LEGO Dimensions, a multi-character collectible-figurine action game similar to the popular Skylanders and Disney Infinity games.
Players will purchase the base game, and then character expansion packs to add more playable characters to the game world. Today at Gamescon in Germany, Warner Bros Interactive Entertainment, the publisher for Dimensions, announced the latest character pack, Ghostbusters. The game will be developed by Traveler’s Tales Games, makers of many other much-loved LEGO games such as LEGO Star Wars and LEGO Indiana Jones. No word yet on when these will be available for pre-order, though the base game and many other character packs can be pre-ordered now! The base game will be available on Xbox One, Xbox 360, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 3 and Wii U.
Today’s announcement included 3 character packs for LEGO Dimensions, as well as a few images of the characters being used in-game. So far confirmed packs include:
• Simpsons
• Portal
• Back to the Future
• Doctor Who
• Ghostbusters
• Multiple DC characters including Wonderwoman, Superman and Batman
• Scooby Doo
• Jurassic World
• LEGO Ninjago
• The LEGO Movie
• The Wizard of Oz
• The Lord of the Rings
• LEGO Chima

Click through to see the rest!
LEGO Dimensions will be a veritable menagerie of licenses, including a number of franchises never been seen in LEGO form. If you’re thinking about pre-ordering the game, we humbly ask that you consider using one of the below links, which helps keep our lights on and servers humming for bringing you more of the fan-made creations you love.
Wargaming is bringing classic strategy series Master of Orion back from the dead with a full-fledged
CaseymaloneSomeone I talk to on this website will be excited about this but I am not sure who, so here.

Wargaming is bringing classic strategy series Master of Orion back from the dead with a full-fledged remake. There’s a brief trailer out, but it doesn’t feature any gameplay.
Series 14 Monster Collectible Minifigures are almost here [News]
LEGO has finally released nice, high resolution images of the newest line of the highly-popular Collectible Minifigures, due out in September. They’re technically Series 14, though the LEGO Movie and Simpsons series were unnumbered, making this actually the 17th wave (not counting the rare Olympic series). This time around, the whole line is monster themed, with characters ranging from ghoulish to naughty, and should be widely available just in time for lots of great Halloween creations this year.
Zombie Pirate
“Yo ho ho and a barrel o’ brains!”
The Zombie Pirate was getting sick and tired of seeing all of these young whippersnapper pirates mess things up, so he’s come back to show them how things used to be done back in the good old days. Not surprisingly for a several-hundred-year-old sea dog, he’s kind of old-fashioned. He still prefers to strand his prisoners on deserted islands instead of making them walk the plank, and he only plunders gold, not fancy-pants modern treasures like silks and spices.
As a zombie, he isn’t particularly big on personal hygiene. His hook is rusty, his captain’s coat is falling apart, and his wooden leg has a bad case of termites. No one is entirely sure whether he has a beard, or just a particularly impressive collection of moss and lichens on his chin. In good news, he doesn’t smell much worse than the average pirate, and if he falls in the water, he’s more likely to bite the sharks than the other way around!
See the rest of the series after the jump, and click on the pictures for a full description of each character.

The Analogue NT or Why Someone Would Drop $500 on a NES Console
CaseymaloneThis thing is so gorgeous and exciting but $500 is an obscene amount to charge for it.
So, I was glancing over news from the world of retro video games today and had to do a double take. I'm used to people repackaging or emulating old consoles. Heck, The Retron 5 does exactly this blending a large handful of classic console hardware emulation into one definitive, inexpensive $130 package. There's also the Retro VGS, a completely brand new retro themed console which is bring cartridge gaming back. Both of those projects are cool because they're reasonably priced. However, I nearly spit my coffee out when I found out that someone has repacked the guts of the Famicom and NES console into a shiny aluminum box, slapped on some arguably cool feature, and is selling this new NES at $499 a pop!
You may be wondering what exactly warrants sinking $500 into this system. After all, $500 is a lot of money for a system which ceased production back in 1995. We'll start with some basics and features for this new take on the NES console. The Analogue NT is a new console with internal hardware from both the NES and Famicom. The system is completely region free (which is pretty awesome), so it accepts cartridges from either the North America or Japanese version of the console. Naturally, since the parts are originals and this is a glorified, heavily modded NES, no emulation is possible here. You must own real cartridges to play on the Analogue NT (though, once again, they can be either NES or Famicom carts).
The manufacturers of the Analogue NT at www.analogueinteractive.com specifically state that they purposely used a more expensive aluminum box to house the innards of the console. Yes, the cost could have been lower had they used a similar plastic to the original NES console. However, no compromises were made and the solid block of 6061 aluminum contributes to the high price tag. You can probably guess who Analogue Interactive had in mind with this new NES.
As you can see pictured above, the Analogue NT comes in a sleek, futuristic looking box. The front panel is very clean and offers 4 ports for local multiplayer. This is a bit superfluous considering not many official NES games include support for 4 players. However, I'm not one to bulk at additional features. Plus, I'm almost certain the additional ports don't drive up the final cost. This console works with the original North American controller, Japanese controller, and a special 3rd party clone of the original NES controller.
According to my research, here is a list of NES games with 4 player support:
- Anticipation
- Bomberman II
- Danny Sullivan's Indy Heat
- Gauntlet II
- Greg Norman's Golf Power
- Harlem Globetrotters
- Kings of the Beach
- Magic Johnson's Fast Break
- Monster Truck Rally
- M. U. L. E.
- NES Play Action Football
- A Nightmare on Elm Street
- Nintendo World Cup
- R.C. Pro-Am II
- Rackets & Rivals
- Roundball: 2 on 2 Challenge
- Spot
- Smash TV
- Super Off Road
- Super Jeopardy!
- Super Spike V'Ball
- Swords & Serpents
- Top Players' Tennis
- World Cup Soccer
Finally, the Analogue NT has modern hook ups in the back for your high definition TV. Every console works from an RGB NES board. Analogue signals include RGB, Component, S-Video, and Composite. You can choose to spring for the HDMI upgrade (which costs an additional $80!) for upscaling to 1080p and the highest quality audio. Best of all, since the hardware here is the real deal, you won't have to worry about lag or an authenticate experience. This is real Nintendo hardware heavily modded for 2015.
Now, I have to get to the flaws. I'm sure you can guess there are a few. Obviously, cost is quite high. I know, I know. The Analogue NT is high quality; no expenses were sparred. And, this price was passed along to consumers. I get it. But, I really think that the high cost will drive younger audiences away. Hell, I don't really foresee retro collectors swarming to this in droves. I'm not sure why someone would want to spend $500 when a simply $20 - $40 can buy you an original NES in decent shape. It really sucks that the manufacturer charges you for the HDMI upgrade. And why oh why did Analogue Interactive not include at least one cheap 3rd party controller with the intro price? Is it really too much to ask.
Ultimately, the Analogue NT comes down to a few things: if you're content playing NES/Famicom roms on a desktop PC hooked up to your TV, this is NOT the product for you. If you don't mind purchasing a used (are there any other kind in 2015?) NES from eBay and soldering a high def upgrade into the console board yourself, this is not for you either. If you don't mind dropping a bill (or two!) on a high quality, luxury re-imagining of the original NES console, you'll probably be quite happy here. If you absolutely hate emulation but for some strange reason don't want to use the original console, this is pretty much your only option. You could argue that the NT is a waste of money, but hey, we're a community who enjoys sinking money on collecting retro video games and game memorabilia... As for me, I'm quite content with my Retron 5. I find the games and merchandise more compelling than the actual consoles. If you wish to check the Analogue NT out for yourself, you can do so here.

“Hammerhead” Exploration and Surveillance Suit
There’s a lot to love about this hardsuit by Christopher Hoffmann, from the spot of yellow on the long arm (a camera?) to the random “50” road sign and excellent color blocking between the white torso and dark gray arms and legs. Christopher says that the AC Research, Inc. suit is “For all of your topographical and biological surveillance needs, from Titan to Ganymede.” Sounds about right.
One of the things I enjoyed most about the models I built for Ma.Ktober a couple years ago was building the discrete bases to showcase each model. Christopher gives the base itself substantial attention and detail, with organic landscaping to contrast with the hard mechanical detail of the suit.

Hot Toys to debut 18-foot long Millennium Falcon
A study in yellow
CaseymaloneHi everyone.
I assume he's fucking that banana.
As the Minions prequel slap-stravaganza makes it’s way through movie theaters this week, LEGO versions are starting to pop up, and here are two of my favorites. It’s always interesting to see different builders’ interpretations of the same subject matter – proving that there’s no one ‘right’ way to build anything:
While both models lean towards the “studs hidden” end of the scale, James Zhan‘s Stuart sticks to a more traditional studs-up technique, while umamen‘s Carl goes studs-out and heavy on the cheese slopes. Yet both models nail it with lots of detail and plenty of character. Cumbaya!

Caseymaloneyo is this a recipe for cooking a baby
It has always amused me that despite being a species with only two options, we get so excited to learn that the next member of it will be one or another. But there I was blubbering like I had never heard news so unusual and wonderful when they told me it was a girl, because like my favorite childhood movie that we dusted off a couple rainy weekends ago, we’ve never had a little girl. We hope she’s going to like it here.

Channing Tatum helps Stan Lee off stage, melts Internet’s heart
infieriority complex
Hi Friends,
I’ve been going through a pretty rough patch of depression lately, which I’m not normally prone to. Although Tomboy has been very successful, and touched many people, I’m still having a hard time feeling creative and motivated to make comics. I always thought having a successful book would make me more motivated, but I guess you can’t always tell when, where, or why depression will hit. I am currently seeking a mental health provider that will be a good fit, but I know that it can take a long time. Anyway, I’m only writing this so that folks know where I’m at, but also to assure you that I’m taking the strides to get better. I will say that coming up with the pun ifFIERIority complex really made my day, so maybe, in the end, making this comic actually did make me feel a little more like myself.
Thanks,
Liz

Massive LEGO StarCraft display has more pylons than you’ll ever need
CaseymaloneHere you go, nerds.
Gaming fans, get ready to reattach your socks once you’ve marveled at this 14 foot long microscale LEGO StarCraft diorama, unveiled at Brickworld Chicago last week:
Whether you identify as Protoss, Terran or Zerg, there is so much detail to enjoy in this monstrous display, built over the course of 3 years by 9 builders in 4 different countries. How many bricks were used? We don’t know – the team lost count! I’m guessing “quite a lot”.
Huge props to the amazing team of Cecilie Fritzvold, Tim Schwalfenburg, Matt De Lanoy, Chris Perron, John Moffat, Bart De Dobbelaer, Sean and Steph Mayo and our very own Simon Liu. And rumor has it parts of this epic layout may be appearing at other LEGO fan conventions in the not-too-distant future.
Meanwhile, check out their cool fly-through video, or pore over dozens of closeup images of the layout and it’s many individual units on their Flickr group:

The Real Stories Behind E3’s Glossy Game Demos
CaseymaloneI got physically nauseous re-living the Peter Moore incident.

You only get one chance to make a first impression, and for many games, that happens at E3. The annual mega show is nearly upon us, and developers are spending days and nights putting together flashy demos to convince us to open our wallets. What’s real? What’s fake? Maybe both? I asked some developers to find out.
