Let The Fallout 4 Glitch-Fest Begin + Infinite Caps Exploit

by Remy Carreiro

glitch

Gotta love Bethesda. They make great games that make from even greater glitches. I know when I played Fallout 3, for about ten hours of that game my Dogmeat was three times the size he was supposed to be because of a glitch. Now, apparently, with next-gen hardware, he can float through stairs.

God bless that magical, glitchy dog. We still love you, Bethesda!

Also, there’s an infinite Caps glitch for those of you who are interested!

1: find a vendor who sells ammo (any ammo!)
2: Buy all bullets of that ammo type
3: Sell one ammo of what you just bought
4: Sell another portion of the ammo, but not all of it.

If you do it right, after the procedure, you should be able to sell what you have left an infinite number of times without affecting the inventory of the seller.

Cop Pulls Over ‘Too Slow’ Self-Driving Car

by JLister
Credit: Google

Credit: Google

A Google self-driving car has been pulled over by a police officer for driving too slowly. The officer appears to have concluded no law was broken but warned Google about possible safety risks.

According to the Mountain View Police Department in California, the car was traveling at 24 miles per hour in a 35 miles per hour zone. An officer pulled over the car after spotting traffic backing up behind it.

The officer then “made contact with the operators.” Though neither the police nor Google have detailed who was on board, California rules require the cars have a human operator who can take control immediately if needed.

The police say the officer asked how the car was choosing the speed at which to drive. The officer also pointed to a California law that says that “No person shall drive upon a highway at such a slow speed as to impede or block the normal and reasonable movement of traffic, unless the reduced speed is necessary for safe operation, because of a grade, or in compliance with law.”

The police department doesn’t mention any ticket being issued as a result of a possible breach of this law and Google notes that “After 1.2 million miles of autonomous driving (that’s the human equivalent of 90 years of driving experience), we’re proud to say we’ve never been ticketed!”

Back in June Google revealed that its self-driving vehicles have been involved in 12 minor collisions during testing. 11 of these involved a human driver rear-ending the Google car after it slowed or stopped. The other involved a human driver using the Google car with the self-driving mode switched off.

Google Tries Again With Google+

by JLister

googleplus

Google is relaunching Google+ with a greater emphasis on interest groups. It appears to be a recognition that for many users it was one social network too many.

The changes revamp the organizational emphasis when users visit the site. Rather than personal posts and online friendships/contacts, the most prominent sections will now be Communities and Collections.

Communities is simply interest groups, working in a similar way to groups on Facebook. Collections are similar but based around media rather than written posts and operate more like Pinterest.

The changes will be rolled out gradually. At some point in the coming days, users logging in will be asked if they want to switch to the new format by clicking “Let’s Go.” For now at least they’ll then be able to revert to the old system via a link in the bottom left of the page. There’ll also be updates to the various apps in the near future.

How well or badly Google+ is doing is as much a matter of perspective and attitude as it is about the raw numbers. Perhaps surprisingly for many, one report says it has almost as many users as Twitter and Instagram.

However, there’s no doubt it’s far behind Facebook (with roughly a fifth of the userbase) and certainly lacks its widespread appeal and critical mass.

The big limitation seems to be that although Google+ “solves a problem,” it came too late to make a difference. The idea of Circles, making it easy to share content and status posts with differing groups sounded like a great alternative to the way such control on Facebook is handled.

However, it seems that this wasn’t enough of a gamechanger to get enough people to adopt Google+ as an alternative to Facebook, let alone a replacement. That’s partly because of a reluctance to put extra time and effort into building up a new account and partly because Google+ never seemed to get past the vicious circle of people not bothering to use it once they saw that few of their existing friends and contacts were using it themselves.

An estimated 300 million users is nothing to be sneezed at of course, but it’s unclear how many of those people actually visit the site regularly or if there’s any hope of turning that vicious circle into a virtuous one.

Indeed, it seems Google may even have given up on building the user base. It notes that the changes are based on having “spent lots of time talking to people who are passionate about Google+. We visited them in their homes, we invited them into early testing communities and we learned more about how and why they use Google+.” Useful as that exercise may have been, it will have told Google nothing about why so many people have opted not to bother with the service.

Story: An Engineer Goes to Hell Instead of Heaven

by Geeks are Sexy

Just got this from G.A.S. reader John S.:

An Engineer dies and goes to hell. He’s hot and miserable, so he decides to take action. The A/C has been busted for a long time, so he fixes it. Things cool down quickly.

The moving walkway motor jammed, so he unjams it. People can get from place to place more easily.

The TV was grainy and unclear, so he fixes the connection to the Satellite dish and now they get hundreds of high def channels.

One day, God decides to look down on Hell to see how his grand design is working out and notices that everyone is happy and enjoying umbrella drinks. He asks the Devil what’s going on?

The Devil replies, “Things are great down here since you sent us that engineer.”

“What?? An engineer? I didn’t send you one of those, that must have been a mistake. Send him back up right this minute.”

The Devil responds, “No way! We are going to keep our engineer. We like this guy.”

God demands, “If you don’t send him to me immediately, I’ll sue!”

The Devil laughs. “Where are YOU going to get a lawyer?”

Thanks John!

The Wreath of Canton Pays Homage to Firefly’s Jayne Cobb

by Geeks are Sexy

“Man walks down the street and sees this wreath on someone’s door, people know they’re not afraid of anything.”

wr1

A fantastic-looking wreath by artist and etsy user StarsSpikes, who sells all kinds of pop culture inspired items.

This wreath is 14 inches wide by 24 (with the poof ball) inches long (36cm x 60cm). The scarf is crocheted with 100% acrylic yarn and attached to a 14″ styrofoam ring. This is outdoor safe and wall friendly. It sits nicely on any generic wreath holder (I used a clear one in the images).

Whether you live on Canton or on Persephone, you can welcome people into your home (or onto your Firefly class vessel) with a wreath that proudly shows your Browncoat colors.

Vicious Cycle

by Steve Napierski
Vicious Cycle For me, computers mean work. I have my laptop computer that I use for my 9-5, and I have my home computers that I use for freelance and other projects. If I'm in front of a screen to relax, it is either the television screen or a tablet. 99% of the time, when I am in front of a computer, I am working...or at the very least supposed to be working.

Good Guy Nintendo Adds Mid-Level Checkpoints to Super Mario Maker

by Remy Carreiro

mario

People can say what they want about Nintendo. Say they are failing or falling behind. But little things like this show why Nintendo supporters are avid. Because Nintendo is actually quite rabid towards making its fans happy, and that says so much about the company.

Imagine what EA or Konami would do here? It would be a dollar a checkpoint micro-transaction. Nintendo for the classy win!
