The Easy Chair by Owen Read

The Easy Chair was an exploration of both working with a CNC routing machine and complex miter wood joinery. The forms for the seat and back were inspired by a common masculine way of sitting where legs are spread slightly apart and the back is in a slight slouching position. The forms were shaped with a CNC router to enforce this type of body positioning.

The frame for the chair then became an exercise in compound angles and complex three-dimensional forms. The chair was originally modeled in CAD and then was constructed first in a full size foam core model and then again in the final wood version. The chair is constructed 100% with solid domestic cherry.

She received $1700 dollars in donations from fans all around the world. Instead of keeping it for herself, using it for pageants, or for something else, she purchased toys for needy children in her area.

THE MILLION DOLLAR VACATION MASTERPOST

If you follow me, which I’m assuming if you’re reading this, you do, you might have noticed me mentioning something called “The Million Dollar Vacation.” 

“What is this???” you asked yourself. 

“I’m so intrigued!!!!” you thought.

Well, look no further than this post for everything you need to know about The Million Dollar Vacation!

• Origins: when I was in sixth grade, I wrote what I was sure would be a hit. It was funny, romantic, action-packed, and super duper unique. It is also unfinished.
• Premise: Super cool 14-year-old Poppy Malone has been cast in a movie called The Million Dollar Vacation! And so has her best friend, Delia! They go to Hawaii to shoot the movie and encounter more than they ever imagined: boys! girls! drama! catfights! shark attacks! Also, Poppy and her sisters have a deep-seated hatred for their mother. 
• Characters: Poppy Malone is our trusted protagonist and narrator; Delia (named after my favorite clothing store at the time) is her best friend; Logan (named after Logan Reese, my one true love who also happened to be a character on Zoey 101) was her hottie love interest; Physic Marlee, who’s currently serving 50 yrs. - life; and Peara Bedskirt was the antagonist, though I do hope that, someday, feminist readings will support my theory that Peara is the true star of this novel.

I’m currently in the process of transcribing The Million Dollar Vacation to Microsoft Word, and to honor my sixth grade self, I’m typing it in size-16 purple Comic Sans. Because of this, I often reference TMDV, post screenshots, or do dramatic readings from it, which can be found here and here.

Also, if you’re super interested, I’m posting it in increments on Wattpad, where it currently has 71 reads. How? We just don’t know.
