All photos by Chris Arnade.
Chris Arnade is a New York based photographer who’s become internationally recognised thanks to his profiles on the homeless, drug addicted citizens of Hunts Point. He accompanies his portrait shots with prose that paints them in a light not common in mass distributed media. Having received some backlash for his work, Chris continues to strive to bring light to the situation through his Facebook and Twitter. Below is a mere snippet of his collection.
The stories of addicts in the Hunts Point neighborhood, the poorest in all of New York City. I post people’s stories as they tell them to me. What I am hoping to do, by allowing my subjects to share their dreams and burdens with the viewer and by photographing them with respect, is to show that everyone, regardless of their station in life, is as valid as anyone else. Its easy to ignore others. By not looking, by not talking to them, we can fall into constructing our own narrative that affirms our limited world view. -Chris Arnade.
Photographer Peter Hegre did the whole world a favour when he decided to upload a set of photos of his wife in 2012. A talented yoga instructor, Hegre got her to pose in some of her favourite positions in a tasteful display of talent. Not a single bit ostentatious, the photos are a beautiful tribute to the art of yoga and also a testament to the benefits it can bring. Have a look for yourself.

Artist Sarah Schoenfeld had a lot of exposure to drugs while working in a Berlin nightclub. Whether they take the form of pills, powder, crystals or tabs, the way drugs look to the human eye or affect our mind is nothing new. But what if the pure, active chemicals were to be represented visually on film negatives and magnified onto large prints? Schoefeld did exactly that with this eerie and brilliant body of work called All You Can Feel. The entire collection is available as a book at Kerber Press.
