"Best comment: When Rick Snyder became governor he prided himself on being a guy who made tough decisions, got things done, and was generally a really sharp cookie who always knew what was going on and was on top of things personally instead of delegating to subordinates. Once the Flint crisis came to light, suddenly he was a guy who really didn’t have any direct input with this whole situation and all these people under him were acting on their own authority without Snyder’s knowledge. Pretty convenient change of personality, huh?"
Michigan Health and Human Services Director Nick Lyon has been charged with involuntary manslaughter and misconduct in office, the Detroit Free Press reports.
@ cis women: y'all know trans women are de facto forcibly sterilized, right? Like, if we don’t have the money and access required to freeze our genetic material (aka sperm), we can’t have biological offspring after starting hrt. And since almost everywhere requires medical transition as necessary to get legal recognition of our womanhood, this amounts to forced sterilization for the majority of trans women. So that’s what I mean when I say I resent being talked down to by “cis allies” on the subject of reproductive rights.
In many places throughout the world, permanent surgical sterilization via removal of the gonads is also a required step in order to get one’s gender legally changed. Cis gatekeepers really want to make sure trans people (and trans women especially) do not reproduce.
And what’s worse, we are supposed to be happy about it, and being unhappy with this arrangement can be taken as a sign that we aren’t a “real trans” and thus the medical care we need to transition will be withheld from us in many places. Its so fucked.
This terrible thing effects all trans people but hits trans people who need to freeze eggs particularily hard. Not only is freezing eggs far more expensive with a far lower success ratio (which means needing to spend even more money on freezing more eggs to be sure), it also requires a period during which the trans person needs to delay transition and take extra hormones of the type they do not want in their body. And in addition to being psychologically tough, that period makes it much harder to hide your choice from the doctor providing transition related care. As described above, a lot of trans people have to hide their desire to have children because they will not be seen as ‘really trans’ if they don’t cheerfully accept sterilization.
once you comprehend the whole thing of slavery being illegal in the US except as punishment for a crime, all it takes is the merest shred of cynicism to realize at least the potential abuses of that condition, which pretty quickly jump to awareness of the actual abuses.
And if we accept the probability or fact of local governments and businesses unjustly incarcerating people in order to profit from forced, unpaid labor… paired with the understanding that there is a significant portion of the population who have historically profited from the enslavement of people of color, whose inherited wealth originated from slavery and who have demonstrable connections to deeply racist culture?
it should be the logical conclusion that “slavery as punishment for a crime” cannot be just and supports institutionalized racism simply by virtue of humans being incapable of complete impartiality, and the historic facts of race relation in this country.
or, put another way: white people are so fucking racist and it is so deeply ingrained in American culture, that even without evidence on hand, i have to just draw the rational conclusion that there are frequent cases of people of color being charged unjustly simply so white people can profit from slavery-as-punishment.
even if one were to say, oh, but it can’t happen with more than a very small minority of judges, that maybe one out of a hundred is corrupt and racist enough to do this (and really, with all the shit that goes down, you can’t imagine more corrupt, deeply biased judges than that?) then it would still follow that there are many, many instances of people of color being charged with crimes for the sole reason of enslaving them.
we need a new amendment to modify the Thirteenth. There must be no slavery, whatsoever. The very moment you set up a system where one person may be legally forced to provide profit for another, you create incentive for someone to take advantage of that.
so hey fun fact for anyone who wants queer history trivia: the first disco in Seattle was opened in 1973 and was a gay bar called “shelly’s leg” and it was named after a dancer named shelly who lost her leg in a confetti cannon accident and used the insurance/lawsuit settlement money to open a gay disco.
a) This is such a fantastic story that I wouldn’t care if it were made up, except that
Husband was looking for me all round the house so he could show me something he’d made but he couldn’t find me so he just shouted really loudly, “Fantasy and Sci-fi are the same genre!” and the rational part of my brain doing laundry was like “I’m not responding to a meme, wait where am I going—” as I ascended up the basements stairs like the wrath of god, and he just turned like “there you are” and I’m SO MAD THAT IT WORKED
Blade led the way for the success of all the following Marvel movies. No Spiderman or X-Men or Disney buying Marvel without Blade. No Iron Man, Captain America, Thor, Black Panther, or Avengers without Blade.
^^^^ Marvel was in the toilet before Blade. Blade was a sleeper hit that summer and was the first official hit of not just Marvel films, but the comicbook superhero genre in general. Before this super-slick R-rated feature, it was B-movies with day-glo tights. NO ONE took the the genre seriously. Blade, a black superhero changed all of that.
Seriously before Blade, we had Howard The Duck, and the horrible 80′s versions of Captain America and The Punisher, both of which were direct to video.
“did chris evans actually jump that high to grab onto that helicopter in civil war?”
friendly reminder that chris vaulted with ease over chris pratt after just telling him less than a minute before that he would be able to clear him if he only put his head down.
I want a Celebrity Obstacle Course show where all the pretty people can show off their hard stunt work for us and also occasionally eat it, because they need to be humbled sometimes. The judges would be career stunt people, to give them visibility, because they work even harder. Shirts optional.
You wouldn’t even finish the phrase “Celebrity Ninja Warrior” before Chris would start jumping up and doing yelling “Me! Me! Pick me!”
1. Don't commit treason and do it so badly you need to appear before a senate hearing and lie your ass off.
Some things are tough to remember: where you parked, your entire middle school years, and, of course, whether you had conversations with Russian officials—especially if you’re testifying in front of the Senate Intelligence Committee about a certain investigation regarding Russia and the 2016 election like Jeff…
OK, FIRST of all, if I'm gonna eat a skittle, I want to know what frikken flavor it's gonna be. (Lime is horrible and I don't want to eat it by accident). Second, I think this kind of thing is what the word problematic was coined to address. This probably comes from what passes for good intentions from a corporation. But the vision behind it is blinkered, and doesn't account for any interpretation besides the one they're trying to push, not matter how obvious that interpretation is.
If you walk into your local convenience store and notice that the packs of Skittles have turned white, don’t worry, you’re not tripping out, because for the second year running, Mars has ditched the iconic Skittles rainbow in honor of Pride Month.

“Only one rainbow matters this pride. Give the rainbow, taste the rainbow,” explains the back of the white Skittles bag. And as you can see below, it isn’t just the packaging that’s lost its color – the Skittles are all white too! Great fun if you like a bit of mystery in your candy; not so much fun if you hate a particular flavour. The vibrant confectionery first ditched its colors for 2016 London Pride, but while many people consider it to be a fun and harmless marketing campaign, not everybody agrees, and some have even complained that it’s racist. What do you think? Let us know in the comments below.
Skittles has decided to ditch the famous rainbow in honor of pride month
"-Seven girls playing together during recess on Tuesday, saying that since they all wanted to be Wonder Woman they had agreed to be Amazons and not fight but work together to defeat evil." This one made me cry
I work at a kindergarten and this is a collection of cute Wonder Woman related things that happened within a week of the movie being released.
On Monday, a boy who was obsessed with Iron Man, told me he had asked his parents for a new Wonder Woman lunchbox.
A little girl said “When I grow up I want to speak hundreds of languages like Diana”
This girl had her parents revamp her Beauty and the Beast birthday party in THREE DAYS because she simply had to have a Wonder Woman party.
Seven girls playing together during recess on Tuesday, saying that since they all wanted to be Wonder Woman they had agreed to be Amazons and not fight but work together to defeat evil.
There is this one girl that refuses to listen to you unless you address her as Wonder Woman.
Another girl very seriously asked the teacher if she could ditch her uniform for the Wonder Woman armor bc she “wanted to be ready if she needed to save the world”. The teacher laughed and said it was okay, and the next day the girl came dressed as Wonder Woman and not a single kid batted an eye.
They are making a wrap-up dance show, and they asked the teacher if they could come as superheroes, they are going to sing a song about bunnies.
This kid got angry and threw a plastic car over his head and a girl gasped “LIKE IN THE MOVIE”
A boy threw his candy wrapping in the floor and a 5-year-old girl screamed “DON’T POLLUTE YOU IDIOT, THAT IS WHY THERE ARE NO MEN IN TEMYSCIRA”
On Wednesday, a girl came with a printed list of every single female superhero and her powers, to avoid any trouble when deciding roles at recess.
I was talking to one of the girls that hadn’t seen the movie, and the next day she came and very seriously told me “you were right, Wonder Woman was way better than Frozen.”
Consider this your friendly reminder that if this movie completely changed the way these girls and boys thought about themselves and the world in a week, imagine what the next generation will achieve if we give them more movies like Wonder Woman.
I dunno. I'm just not feelin' "Mostly Guilt-Trips" Joker.
Nicholson. Ledger. Leto. Everyone who has played Joker in the modern era has been an Oscar-winning actor. It’s an iconic role, but in the late 1980s, John Lithgow didn’t know that. He auditioned to play the role in Tim Burton’s 1989 Batman and actively tried not to be cast. It’s a decision he regrets to this day.
“What you see is a myosin protein dragging an endorphin along a filament to the inner part of the brain’s parietal cortex which creates happiness. Happiness. You’re looking at happiness.”
Look at her STRUT!!! She is dragging that endorphin for filth and using that filament as her runway, bitch.
6 inch heels…..she walked in the club like nobody’s business…..godam…..she murdered everybody and i was her witness
I laughed, then laughed harder when it dawned on me that looking at this had triggered the effect I was looking at.
Mo Brooks being interviewed by phone on CNN. Clearly shaken up, reports Scalise as only wounded Congressman, but also two law enforcement, and two aides.
According to Brooks, the shooter advanced on the field, still firing as he came past home plate, and was “taken down” by law enforcement.
Scalise hit, at least one congressional staffer hit, two security officers hit. Apparently the other person hit was the shooter, for a total of five injured.
Scalise apparently hit in hip, staffer and one guard hit in leg. No word on condition of other guard or shooter.
Security apparently there because Scalise, as Minority Whip, had a security detail.
Reports are that Congressman Jeff Duncan from South Carolina had a conversation with a man he believes was the shooter before the incident. No details yet.
The shooter at the GOP congressional baseball practice this morning is James T. Hodgkinson of Belleville, Ill., according to law enforcement officials. Hodgkinson, 66, owns a home inspection business. His home inspection license expired in November 2016 and was not renewed, state records show.
you know those things, when you were a kid, you felt were hurtful but you couldn’t quite figure out why they were hurtful and unfair and you couldn’t explain why the other person was wrong from doing them?
well, this is one of them.

two screenshots of a person talking while eating. the subtitles read:
“You said it was a joke. A joke is not for the person saying it, but the one receiving it, isn’t that so?”
“If she hadn’t agreed to it, then it wasn’t a joke, but terror.”
Intuition is real. Vibes are real. Energy doesn’t lie. Tune in.
This is actually called thin slicing. Your brain recognizes patterns from very small “slices” of information by comparing them to things you have experienced before. This all happens very quickly on a subconscious level without our conscious mind being involved. So intuition is actually really fast pattern recognition, and it can be very accurate. So yeah, if you have a gut feeling that a person or situation is not good, get the hell out. Your brain knows what’s up.
…to some extent, BUT it’s also worth noting that some of the main cues we recognize in thin slice behaviors are:
So it is SUPER EASY for that rapidly detected info to feed into pre-existing biases. You may be getting a danger vibe because you were raised in a racist society.
