thekirstenlynn:

Please don’t spread the name and face of the Charleston shooter, call him a white terrorist because that’s all he is, don’t give him the respect of learning his name or recognizing his face. All he wants is to be famous, now he will be infamous. He only deserves to be known as a white homegrown terrorist and imagined as a monster because that’s what he is. Instead learn the names and faces of the victims, they deserve to be remembered not the monster.

Remember:

Clementa Pinckney

A Democrat state senator who was also the pastor at the Emanuel African Methodist Church.

Cynthia Hurd

A librarian at the Charleston County Public Library. She’d been working there for 31 years and was a manager as St. Andrews Regional Library.

Sharonda Coleman-Singleton

She was a revered and a mother of three, she was also the coach of the track team.

Tywanza Sanders

image

A recent graduate from Allen University in Columbia. He was recently working as a barber. It is said that he died trying to save one of his family members.

Please, if you hear about more of the victims, add their names and a little about their life.

Go to this link to learn more about these victims. What I posted is only a short summary.

Also if anything like this happens again, do this instead of showing the shooter/terrorist. This is a tragedy and I will do my best to raise awareness, I hope you will too. Thank you.

maarnayeri:

These attacks in Charleston is exactly why I don’t like and will never accept Nu Atheist critiques of religion that are devoid of contextualization.

Besides the fact that killing people in a place and time of worship is about the most reprehensible thing you can do, Emanuel AME church is the oldest Black church in the South and its history is entrenched in the struggle against Jim Crow terrorism. There’s absolutely no convenience or coincidence in the attacker’s choice of location.

In case it hasn’t been made resoundingly clear already, a vast majority of political organizing and radical coalition building was/is done in the context of Christianity with black resistance in the US. Everything from the Montgomery Boycotts to the Million Man March. Yes without question, black people have been colonized in warped white supremacist renditions of Christianity, but the fact that it was malleable enough to be reclaimed in Black politics proves how theology, like most things, is essentially a blank slate and its impact is wholly up to individual intention.

You think religion is useless and a primitive aspect of the human condition that has no place in your life? Cool, good for you. I respect your right to that believe that (or disbelieve that). But for many people around the world, it is a respite, pillar of hope, cultural focal point and an integral facet of day-to-day life. To suggest ripping that away for a faux intellectual talking point is profoundly cruel and absurdly unfeasible.

seedo-amjad:

I used to come home with the lunch menu for the month. It was always bright orange or green or blue. My mother would take it from my hands and circle the days that the school was serving something with pork in it. She’d tell me, “Amjad, I’ll make you sandwiches to take to school these days.” And I’d get really excited because bringing lunch from
Home was considered cool in the 2nd grade.

On days they served pork or a meat my mother wasn’t too sure about, she’s wake up early and rush to the kitchen. She’d smear a generous helping of hummus in khubiz. Fry up some falafel. Cut up some veggies and throw in some olives into a plastic container. She’d put all these in my Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles lunch box with some juice. I’d carry it with pride knowing I’d be eating my favorite foods and everyone else would be eating the gross lunch.

Lunch would come and I’d sit down with my friends and open my lunch box, all the kids eyeing me with jealously and admiration. I’d lay out all my food in front of me and start to dig in, smilingly, because everyone’s food looked like it was already digested.

Then someone would lean over and yell “ew what’s that?? Are you eating a poops sandwich.” All the kids would laugh and snicker and point. “What are those balls? Ew that looks gross!” More laughter. More giggles. More pointing.

I would eat anything. I’d stuff everything back into the box, humiliated.

I’d come home, crying. Telling my mother how could she embarrass me like that. “Why can’t I have regular American food?”

She’d be confused. She didn’t understand. At home, I’d devour her food like it was my last meal. But now, standing in front of her, my 7-8 year old self knew what humiliation felt like.

The next time pork was served at school, she put Bologna and cheese on white bread. Packed chips into my Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles lunch box. No one laughed at me when I pulled out my American lunch. No one pointed at my American sandwich.

But I lost the taste of my mother’s lunches.

White Ohio officers slam black teens outside pool

It happened again. Video has emerged of police aggressively responding to a disturbance at a local pool in Fairfield, Ohio, last week. One officer can be seen slamming a 12-year-old girl by the neck against a police car. The police also used pepper spray against another, who can be heard saying, “You just maced me in my mouth.” All because of a minor rule infraction at the pool.

I AM SO SICK AND TIRED

been thinking a lot lately about how (for lack of a better word) ugly men are allowed to be, and still be seen as natural and human, versus the forced maintenance of femininity required of women to be seen simply as human and worthy of respect. we live in a society that celebrates male mediocrity and demands constant performance from women, and idk it just really makes me wanna scream

You have to WANT to be like this, in order to be like this. It's not the way our brains work, in general.
We don't have to be the way our brains are programmed to be. We just have to want to be different, and then keep working on it every single day.

newwavefeminism:

ctron164:

You know what really pisses me off about this whole thing is in the end Rachel’s racial fetish is being rewarded. Her actions has given licence to ignorant, morbidly curious, bored complacent white people to play dress with peoples’ struggles. She’s also undermined black women’s, transpeople, and even the mentally ill’s trials and tribulations. She may have pretended to be black for 8 years, but Rachel will never know how it feels to be told she is inferior and inherently bad for being black. That she should be grateful anyone grants her humanity. She’ll never have to defend her given name and be nicknamed so white people don’t have to bother learning her name, she’ll never know what is to be told she’s not black enough, or she’s pretty for a black girl or be hypersexualized like many of us have been since before hitting puberty.

Now more than ever she isn’t going to be accused of being “angry”, “rachet”, “ghetto” and all of the ugly labels actual black women have to side step everyday. I think she should pay restitution for defrauding the NAACP, her kids should be taken away, how many black women have been stepped on in Spokane’s civil rights community to elevate this pathological liar !?

And going by her answers given in her limited appearances, for those of you self loathing enough to defend her please tell the rest of us where in what she has said is she doing more for the black community than black people have ?All of her answers are self absorbed and she seems relieved as fuck that people are giving her their undivided attention. Than she can finally enjoy her braided wig and weaves in peace now that the world knows.

I really wanted to highlight this comment on the thread. Especially the bolded.

#This scene makes me so sad#because above all else#above UNIT and Torchwood#and even the Doctor#SHE was a doctor#Martha Jones helped people - her passion was to heal#and save lives#and now she might be the only one who can save the universe#but at the cost of the entire planet#she’ll kill them all#and it’s the last thing that she wants to do#but it’s the only option now#so when this woman pulls the gun on her and threatens to kill her#Martha sadly nods her head and tells her to do it#because then she wouldn’t have to make this choice#and it kills me
(via
riveralwaysknew
)

oh my god martha nearly did to the earth what the doctor did to gallifrey

oh my god

This is the exact reason why I maintain my position that Martha was not, under any circumstances, the companion.

She was the doctor.

Now I know that he’s always the same man at the core after regenerations  so on and so forth, but when it really boils down, the doctor isn’t a timelord, the doctor is an idea. At least in the RTD era, every companion at one point or another, has had to make the choice to become the doctor.

Rose Became the Doctor when she accepted her fate as the bad wolf.

Mickey became the doctor when he stayed in the parallel universe.

Donna became the doctor during the meta-crisis.

Jack became the doctor when he ‘died’  for the first time trying to save everyone before Rose destroyed the Daleks.

But Martha? Martha was different, Martha was special. Martha never chose to become the doctor, because that was who she always was in her heart; and substantially she was the only companion of the RTD era who didn’t need to be saved by either the timelord doctor or TARDIS intervention (in the case of Jack, seeing as it was the badwolf, who brought him back).

^^^^^^

THAT COMMENTARY IS GORGEOUS.
