This woman was detained and told to leave the airport for being trans

Shadi Petosky just wanted out of Orlando, Florida. On Monday night, Petosky, a 35-year-old transgender woman, attempted to board a flight at Orlando’s International Airport when she was detained by the TSA. The reason? An “anomaly” — her genitals. The TSA does have a policy for treating trans fliers, but there’s just one problem with it.

“If gender neutral clothes are only made for and marketed to the parents of little girls, it is less a sign of gender equality and more an indication of the misogyny that is so ambient in our culture. There is such a devaluing of anything traditionally feminine that we’d rather chuck it out triumphantly than ever demean our boys with it.”

Giant tarantulas keep tiny frogs as pets. Insects will eat the burrowing tarantulas’ eggs - so the spiders protect the frogs from predators, and in return the frogs eat the insects. Source

This has blown my mind for years. It’s so unreal. It’s almost the same exact reason humans and cats started living together.

Tiny frogs are tarantula housecats. A science fact seldom gets to sound that much like meaningless word salad.

This is legit, guys. And I’m excited about it.

Someone needs to draw a tarantula person with a tiny pet housefrog now. Please let this be a thing.

How is this?

This entire post is magic.  And that is so cool how the Tarantula will protect the frog.  :3

Which Character Did You Hate...Until They Became Your Absolute Favorite?

by Charlie Jane Anders
ThePrettiestOne

I have to agree with Saul Tigh, and to a lesser degree, Donna Noble.
I don't mean I love Donna less than Saul, because I love Donna with a love that is like a fiery sun, I love her almost as much as my psychotic cat. I just mean I disliked her less than Saul. Especially once she went from one-shot to actual companion. It seemed there was a lot of negative characteristics built into her, so she pretty much read as character development walking.
But Saul... he didn't change, he simply showed you more of who he was.

There really is a thin line between love and hate! Sometimes there’s a character on a TV show, or in a movie or book series, who shows all the signs of becoming annoying. Or worse yet, offensive. And then...something magic happens. Which character did you hate until they became your favorite?

A Very Simple, Straightforward Way To Find Out if Someone Is a Narcissist

by Lori Dorn

The latest episode of the “The Science of Us” by New York Magazine offers a very simple, straightforward way to find out if someone is a narcissist by just asking them.

Scientists identify narcissists as people with three traits – an unrealistic sense of their own superiority, entitlement or belief that they deserve special treatment and a lack of empathy for other people. Of course we all show some of these trades occasionally, but narcissists show them pretty much all the time and they can make life really difficult for those around them. They have trouble maintaining healthy relationships and when they don’t get the admiration they think they deserve they get aggressive. How do you find out if someone is officially a narcissist? Well you can just ask them. If they say yes, they very likely are one. Seriously it’s that simple.

“You can address anything as a “thou”, and you can feel the change in your psychology as you do it. The ego that sees a “thou” is not the same ego that sees an “it.”

Your whole psychology changes when you address things as an “it.” And when you go to war with a people, the problem of the newspapers is to turn those people into its, so that they’re not “thous.“”

Republicans freaked out about Obama's push to make legal immigrants voting citizens

by rss@dailykos.com (Kerry Eleveld)
United States Senator Jeff Sessions talks to reporters. REUTERS/Jonathan Bachman
GOP Sen. Jeff Sessions has pushed to reduce the number of legal residents allowed into the U.S.
Forget about undocumented immigrants for a moment, what about the 8.8 million immigrants residing here legally who are eligible for citizenship and, yes, voting rights? It's a demographic heavily populated by Latinos and Asians and the Obama administration is rolling out an initiative aimed at making them full-fledged citizens, reports Sarah Wheaton:
It turns out that many Republicans consider legal immigration a more immediate and existential threat to the GOP than illegal immigration. While the total number of illegal immigrants is estimated at 11 million, there are more than 13 million permanent legal residents — and that number could grow at a clip of a million a year.

Most of those green card holders are already on a path to becoming citizens and voters, and their politics skew Democratic.

The White House’s “Stand Stronger” initiative, announced last week, aims to remove barriers for permanent residents to apply for full citizenship, including the right to vote. The White House and its partners are planning 70 outreach events in the first week alone, as well as 200 naturalization ceremonies that will induct 36,000 new citizens over the same period.

That potential influx of voters prompted the right-wing Eagle Forum to issue a paper last year titled, "How Mass (Legal) Immigration Dooms a Conservative Republican Party."
“Republicans can never turn liberal-leaning immigrants and their adult children into supporters of limited government faster than the current high level of legal immigration (one million a year) is bringing in new liberal voters,” the report warns.
Especially not when your 2016 front-runner is calling them "rapists" and "murderers."

It took a few days, but conservatives and Islamophobes have made Ahmed Mohamed their enemy

by rss@dailykos.com (Shaun King)
ThePrettiestOne

THERE's the disappointment in humanity I was looking for this morning.

Ahmed Mohamed
Ahmed Mohamed, 14, during an appearance on Good Morning America
For nearly 48 hours after most of the country learned about the injustice experienced by 14-year-old Ahmed Mohamed, America was a beautiful place.

President Obama reached out to him.

So did Facebook.

And Twitter.

And MIT.

And Microsoft.

And NASA.

Millions of general well-wishers saw the absurdity of interrogating, handcuffing, and arresting Mohamed for bringing a homemade clock to school, which administrators and police allege looked like a "hoax bomb." The charges were dropped and it appeared that we'd all witnessed the end of the worst episode of Mohamed's life.

How naive of us.

It just took Bristol and Sarah Palin a little while longer to think their hateful words through.

First Bristol piped up:

This is the kind of stuff Obama needs to STAY out of. This encourages more racial strife that is already going on with the “Black Lives Matter” crowd and encourages victimhood.
Then mom chimed in:
Yep, believing that’s a clock in a school pencil box is like believing Barack Obama is ruling over the most transparent administration in history. Right. That’s a clock, and I’m the Queen of England.
Then, Richard Dawkins weighed in on how this was likely all a deliberate plan orchestrated by Mohamed to get arrested on purpose, for profit.

Keep reading for more on this disappointing turn of events.

This is so hard for me, and I wish it wasn't, because if someone compliments you, and you accept it because you are awesome, and they backpedal, it's a SUPER QUICK way to weed out the duck cluckers you don't want anything to do with.

Haha I’ve even had ppl do this to me with my art. “Wow you’re really good!” And I say “thank you I’m proud of it” and they go and tell everyone I’m arrogant and narcissistic. Can’t take a compliment you gotta always fight it and fake modesty or else you have “quite the ego on you don’t you” yep yep.

“Look. Straight up. No fucking joke. You are one of the coolest people I know. And if anyone tells you otherwise, I’ll kick their ass. Your dad? I’ll kick his ass. Your boyfriend? I’ll kick his ass. Some stranger? I’ll kick their ass. Me? I’ll kick my own ass. You? I’ll kick your ass. You think I’m joking? I’ll kick some ass. If you told me the pope said something mean about you, I would kick his ass. And then kick gods ass because he chose a shitty pope. And then create my own universe where everyone knows you’re the bomb diggity and if they think otherwise, I kick their ass. To make the universe, well first you have to kick gods ass and then he surrenders his powers to you because you kicked his ass. Full on beating. He won’t be able to feel his ass when I’m done. And for the universe, it’s basically the same. Except puppies and kittens are born trained and if you act shitty I fly down from the sky and kick your ass. And everything is fine. And shitty jobs are done with magic. And everyone loves everything. And I have a giant spider I ride like a horse. And nobody is afraid of spiders anymore because everyone understands they’re our friends and are just trying to do their best. And the spiders don’t bite you because they know you’re awesome and just wanna be besties and play soccer. By the way. Spiders are fucking awesome at soccer. Like. Those six extra legs. Totally not fair. Also. In this universe whenever someone’s sad, everyone around them stops what they’re doing and hugs them until they feel better. Even my giant spider. Who I will name Peter.”

So ya know how anti-choice trashcans say "what if the cure for cancer lives in the mind of a fetus that gets aborted?"

queenevea:

jehovahhthickness:

g-l-i-t-t-e-r:

But since fetuses already knowing advanced medical sciences aren’t a thing, I figured I’d provide some more valid alternatives:

What if the cure for cancer lives in the mind of someone who has a “black sounding” name and gets their school application thrown out?

What if the cure for cancer lives in the mind of someone who accidentally becomes pregnant where abortion is illegal or very difficult to access and they are forced to quit the sciences to raise the child?

What if the cure for cancer lives in the mind of a fat person whose credibility in the medical field is destroyed because they are assumed to be “unhealthy” and a hypocrite?

What if the cure for cancer lives in the mind of a person who starves to death?

What if the cure for cancer lives in the mind of someone who is murdered by drones or police?

What if the cure for cancer lives in the mind of someone who is raped and cannot continue their research due to trauma?

What if the cure for cancer lives in the mind of someone who is killed in a shooting because some below average teen boy couldn’t get laid?

I mean if you wanna talk about real life actual things that prevent scientific advancement look no further than capitalism, misogyny, ableism, racism, violence, oppression. But I guess that doesn’t allow you to control people’s bodies and push your gross agenda.

This shit needs a million reblogs

So why do Muslims get asked about terrorism and Jews about Israel and are grouped in with specific bad people while Christians are not required to explain themselves.

Now, there’s a thought.

Because Christians have evolved with the times and don’t hack people’s heads off…

No they just bomb abortion clinics and kill queer people.

Why one might want to Use the “Oxford Comma”

by Lisa Wade, PhD

The “Oxford comma” is the one placed before an “and” in a list of three or more. It’s the subject of an embittered battle among grammar-lovers. You can make up your own mind. Sometimes it’s correct to use it; sometimes it’s more fun not to.
