Anyway, fictional characters don’t have the same autonomy and culpability as real life content creators who exist in our reality with all the political, social, and cultural issues that affects minorities and oppressed people
We can actually put this on the shelf with the other things that don't need explanation of in-story because they are the result of the real world existing. Like Jack's tattoos in Lost. The only person who ever this is right was George Lucas, when he had the old brokedown stuff in the original trilogy and the the new, shiny stuff in the movies he did later, after the movie tech improved, and people hated him for it.
How did zebras get their stripes? No one knows, except maybe zoologists. But in Star Trek: Discovery, we’ll find out why the Klingons got their forehead ridges, and they actually serve an important biological purpose.
So she wants to make the big dramatic gesture, but she doesn't want it to cost her anything. American Sacrifice, my friends,
Kentucky taxpayers owe nearly $225,000 in legal fees because county clerk Kim Davis refused to give gay couples their marriage licenses in 2015.Her lawyer, not surprisingly, says she shouldn't be blamed for any of that.
this is fun. i like the idea of finn not knowing so many expressive gestures like this, because of growing up as a soldier in a mask. so he’s easily confused by nonverbal communication
YES! He’s probably not that great at body language at all. And I bet that he’s actually really, really terrible at controlling his facial expressions. He might be a little better at reading them since he would have had dealings with Hux and other commanding officers, but still.
I am 100% here for fics or art where Finn keeps making faces at people and they’re like “Finn, we can see you.”
“business owners and those new to Oakland say the changes have moved the needle too far in the other direction, and they are being pushed out of the pot bonanza.” noooooo not the gentrifiers nooooooooo
yo this is even more direct a “fuck you gentrifiers” move here
It’s about time you do some cleaning out of your drawers. Get rid of those laundry-day-only undies in favor of something you’ll actually like wearing (since you voted them as your favorite). Aerie is giving you 10 undies for only $35, no code needed, which is kind of insane seeing as they usually sell them for $12+.
You may not know the under-the-rader, indie comic Black by Kwanza Osajyefo, Tim Smith 3, Jamal Igle, Khary Randolph and others. But Hollywood hopes that’ll change soon. Studio 8, which has a distribution deal with Sony, just picked up the option for the comic with the hopes to turn it into a movie.
“Trump is frighteningly obsessed with himself and his image to such an extent that he cannot fulfill the role of commander in chief. He cannot frame logical arguments based on public policy, and therefore comes across as, well, a fool to foreign leaders. His desire to maintain his own image suggests he’d be more than willing to make the country’s interests subordinate to his own need for personal affirmations. Dealing with foreign allies is bad enough, but one can only imagine what he has said to adversaries.”
and for those interested, you can find the report HERE
Just in case any dudebros are unclear on what this means: it means that your buddy who totally just had some bitch trying to ruin his life by accusing him of rape…almost certainly actually did rape her.
Just keep that in mind.
Yeah man, imagine that, bitches don’t be lying.
Can we put this into context? It means that 99.4% of rape allegations are true.
It means that 99.4% of rape allegations are true.
When you read through and learn about those 0.6% who did make false allegations, there are some seriously important things to note. Firstly :
“Furthermore, the report shows that a significant number of these cases involved young, often vulnerable people. About half of the cases involved people aged 21 years old and under, and some involved people with mental health difficulties. In some cases, the person alleged to have made the false report had undoubtedly been the victim of some kind of offence (sic), even if not the one which he or she had reported.”
And then, when you get into the case studies you find things like a 14 year old girl sleeping with an 18 year old. When discovered, she claimed the sex was non-consensual in fear of her father’s disapproval, but investigation of texts and emails found that to be untrue. THAT SAID, the 18 year old was found to have a history of pursuing and seducing many very young girls, and once he was counseled he expressed not only regret over his actions, but the knowledge that he was
purposefully picking vulnerable girls who could be easily manipulated into consent.
Another case was a married couple, where the wife claimed rape and domestic violence, so the husband was arrested and held. After some contact between the two while he was incarcerated, she went back to him and wanted the charges dropped. It’s okay because she still loves him. When the DA decided to keep going, she suddenly said that she made it up and he never raped her at all. Further counseling revealed that the allegations were true, but she didn’t want to be without him so she lied about the allegations being false. I don’t know about you, but this kind of sounds like classic domestic violence, and the kind of patterns you get into after living with an abuser.
The point I’m trying to make is that even though there are 0.6% false claims… when you break them down you find that there’s generally a lot of skeevy shit going on, and like the above quote, many of the alleged rape victims are actual victims of other abuses. For some of them, I’m guessing that an allegation of rape was the only way to bring enough attention to their abuse to finally get protection by law enforcement, or enough care from family to be freed from their abusive situations and moved somewhere safe. Some are mentally ill and have been taken advantage of, or are victims of statutory rape because they are not even remotely mature enough to truly consent to a sexual relationship with an adult. These cases aren’t just as simple as, “some bitch regretted sex and cried rape”.
We've been SAYING. Actually, "dope" is the best of the things that he looks like.
The Washington Post has obtained transcripts of phone calls Donald Trump made early in his presidency to Australian Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull and Mexican President Enrique Peña Nieto and, hoooo boy, they are even more batshit than you might have expected.
I dunno. We're both REALLY bad at it. Like, it's an actual miracle that we figured out we like each other. I think we'll stick with watching or reading good scifi together.
My wife is a great flirt. With me, with her friends, with an audience. She knows that flirtation isn’t just for people you’re just getting to know. Flirtation is just as important years into a relationship as it is at the start. Maybe even more so.
Illinois Rep. Jeanne Ives, who once described gay marriage as “a completely disordered relationship,” has shared an extremely transphobic and homophobic op-ed on her personal Facebook page that warns Illinois families that legislation protecting against gender identity-based discrimination will erode public schools.
I did not know that in 7 states in America, you can carry out an abortion the day before you give birth (allows abortion at any time). That’s so fucking disgusting. And other states allow abortion up to 28 weeks. That’s not a ball of cells no more, that’s a damn baby. It’s good that abortion is legal but not the fucking late into the pregnancy 😷😷 nasty
You do know the reason abortion is carried out that late in a pregnancy is because of fetal abnormalities, right? There’s no woman that stays pregnant for 8 months and then decides “Meh, I’m just gonna have an abortion instead.”
These women are not nasty, they are not evil, they are women who were so excited to welcome their little one into this world. They are women who had a nursery set up and baby clothes bought. They are women who excitedly waited for their due date, took belly photos and updated the world on how their pregnancy was coming along. They are the women who woke up one day and felt that their baby wasn’t moving anymore. They are the women that felt in their gut that something was terribly wrong, just to have their worst fears confirmed.
They are the women who went to a regular checkup to find out that their baby is severely deformed and won’t live outside the womb, or will but only for a few days and suffer terribly the whole time. They are the women who have to make a decision to not let their baby suffer.
Women having abortions that late are not women who just decided to get an abortion 8 months into pregnancy. While that is there right to do so, know that isn’t what happens. Know that that isn’t the reality.
This is really upsetting to read but it is the truth, more people need to know this.
Something like 90% of abortions are first trimester, which is so early that the medical terminology vacillates between “zygote” and “fetus”, and whatever the name, the thing’s the size of a pencil eraser and has 0% ability to survive outside of the womb.
The remainder are performed in the 2nd trimester, generally as a result of fetal abnormality or a severe congenital defect.
The vanishingly rare 3rd trimester abortions are generally for one of two reasons:
1) the life of the mother is in serious danger 2) the fetus is either dead or dying
So no. Women aren’t just bouncing on coat-hangers at 37 weeks for a giggle, they’re undertaking a serious medical procedure for a heartbreaking reason.
For those fake 20s assholes leave as tips that actually are just Evangelical bullshit.
You know, these fucking things.
People who claim to worship a god who said ‘give all your wealth to the poor’ will tip waiters with this instead of giving them real money and the servers aren’t allowed to punch them, for some reason.
Anyway, the use is not a bonfire.
Trump Campaign is apparently sending out self-addressed pre-paid envelopes to collect donations.
It’s almost like they -want- me to shove dozens of these fake twenties telling people to repent of their sins into an envelope and mail them to a narcissistic cartoon supervillain’s political campaign.
Bad idea in my house. If you're sleeping under a blanket, there is an excellent change that there is a smol cat sleeping on top of that blanket.
Heavy sleepers might need a little something stronger than your standard alarm clock. Some ask you to throw them against a wall, while others roll around the floor wailing, but none of them take direct action to wake you up. Furniture maker and Instructables user 1UpLiving decided to make his alarm clock a little more…
