Honestly though like its fucking offensive how people still try to claim that “hard work” is what determines your economic fate. Like its not like its a secret that the most back-breaking labor is categorically not the most high-paying, really its almost the precise opposite. People bent over for 12 hours a day, in the sun, picking vegetables are literally the lowest paid people in the country. No one can claim ignorance of that. So shut your God damn mouth and find another justification already, stop being insulting to the people who bust ass and break a sweat so millionaires can spend their work days in a chair, in an air conditioned room, two basic luxuries that plenty take for granted.
This is an ugly, scathing read. No lies to be found
People are getting angry about this post on the asusmption that it defends exploitative pimps or trafficking. From my reading of it: it doesn’t. It just says: don’t judge all sex work for its worst abuses unless you’re willing to hold up all labor to that level of criticism. Don’t use it as an excuse to judge all sex work when the real reason you object is something else. Support workers rights everywhere, in every job, every time.
“I don’t condone violence.” Sure you do. If you do not condone armed self-defense, you condone violent oppression. There is no middle ground. To not stand with liberation is to make oneself an obstacle to it.
There is a middle ground. If you seek to destroy your enemy you become your enemy in a sense. Sure if you don’t fight back you could get injured and/or die but if you refuse to comply, even if you die, you win becuase oppressors want control and you didn’t give it to them. I’m all for defending yourself. If someone tries to tell me I can’t do something, I’ll fuck them up but don’t fool yourself into thinking that there’s only one way. That creates dogma and dogma leads to oppression.
“Even if you die, you win.” Uh, no, you don’t, because you’re fucking DEAD.

Where did the stereotype of Jews being greedy come from?? It makes no sense. In order to be bat mitzvahed you have to donate to charity. The biggest food bank in my city is run by my Jewish grandfather. When you’re Jewish you literally ARE REQUIRED to give to charity. Every time you go to Sunday school you bring money for charity. This stereotype makes no fucking sense I swear.
You really wanna know?
It came as a result of Jews being historically forced banned from most professions due to religiously-motivated antisemitism. Some of the only things that were left open to us during this period were moneylending and collecting taxes. Lending money at interest was something necessary for economic growth, but Xians found it distasteful, and so foisted it off on the Jews (Jewish law forbids changing interest to other Jews but allows charging it to non-Jews). Likewise, no one likes the guy who comes around taking your money for the government (in those days, king), so why would anyone want that profession? Leave it to the Jews.
Because Jews had very few career options at all, they were forced to take up these undesirable professions in many cases in order to survive. They weren’t being greedy, they were just doing necessary jobs that no one else wanted. But wider society flipped the situation on its head in its common conception of Jews and chose to view them as picking these monetary professions out of greed. Conveniently, this allowed the people in power to escape blame (which is part of why Jews were expelled so many times from various places, let back in, and expelled again - whenever the ruler needed a scapegoat, out we went).
(This is a very brief explanation of a long history.)
One long episode in particular to point out. Not just distasteful; technically, the Church banned money-lending among Christians, so they had a vested interest in employing Jewish lines of credit to service their communities, and not just because they felt it was useful for their people. At the same time, the Church functionally DID lend to and underwrite all sorts of religious and political activities, they just didn’t call these writs loans and pretended they weren’t functionally a bank. They were effectively using Jewish bankers as smokescreens so that the people wouldn’t realize the Church leadership were total hypocrites. That’s precisely why it was so useful to sermonize that the “unsaved” Jews were greedy: because if the people were more focused on how their individual wealth was physically being moved around, they wouldn’t notice how the Church was systematically moving around structural pools of wealth once it had been collected, and if any anomalies DID crop up in public discourse, they could just blame it on the “greedy” middlemen Jews for hiding or manipulating information along the chain.
“Raised by wolves, you say? I was raised by a bear, that pretty little lady over there was raised among gators, and the doctor was adopted by ocelots.”
Oh, that’s too bad. It’s almost like you’re really stupid people who got conned.
Silver lining, though: all the racism, bigotry, misogyny, homophobia and Islamophobia you voted for is still there! And as a special bonus, you helped put the least qualified person to ever seek the office into the White House!
does anyone else feel like they constantly have to justify everything they do? Iike I’m always mentally preparing a reason behind everything just in case anyone was to question it.
So glad the boyfriend feeds them in the morning (he works nights). My cats know I'm pretty much useless for anything until after at least 11 am. If only I could train my boss and coworkers that well.
Morning ritual: The Spirit of Soft Reproach sits on the farthest possible corner of the bed and gazes tragically at me to communicate that she has never been fed ever, not once in her life
that sounds nice my cat just Yells
well this is stage 2. stages 1, 3 and 4 are all yelling

That was a rollercoaster ride from start to finish and an amazing story in less than five minutes I am flabbergasted
May they be forever alone for their elitist douche-baggery.
I was recently interviewing the woman who founded Her Universe and we were talking specifically about women and geekdom. I asked about the rise of girls in geek culture and she very accurately corrected me: There is no “rise” of geek girls. We’ve always been here. Girls are just as nerdy as dudes are. Ladies have always been interested in sci fi and fantasy and video games - we just don’t talk about it a lot because men are assholes.
Reblogging for all of the above, but it’s especially the last comment that made me hit the button to share.
We’ve always been here *bangs pots and pans*
Women invented SciFi, fanfic, and … basically created modern Fandom. So…
Michiganders look at me so weirdly when I tell them I don't drive.
When the entire concept of driving is too complicated and overwhelming to you and you’re pretty sure you’d kill yourself or others if you tried but people think you’re too old not to drive

As an FYI, if your optometrist is doing the “one or two?” test, you don’t have to pick one. “I can’t tell the difference” is not only a valid answer, it’s much more useful to them than guessing would be.
Somebody give me creative reigns for a TV show. Picture this - Elvira and Dolly Parton starring side-by-side as twin sisters, both witches from humble roots. They’ve each lived wild lives independently and with a little huffy hostility towards each other, following different paths to become powerful enchantresses. As they reach old age, they realize the only thing they can’t replace with magic…. is family.
