— House of Cards (@HouseofCards) December 1, 2014

THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU!
Now we just have to wait until the end of February.

By the way…semi-related note…if you’re feeling empty inside while waiting for House of Cards to come back with it’s “data dump” of diabolical goodness…I sympathize. But here are a few things to help ease your pain along the way.
After the jump

House of Cards, Netflix

1) The Escape Artist: I’ve enjoyed PBS’ Masterpiece Mystery since childhood. It even kickstarted my lifelong obsession with artist Edward Gorey, who did the incredible opening and closing credit illustrations for the series. Everyone is up on the series Sherlock, starring Benedict Cumberbatch. But I also highly recommend the recent 2-part series The Escape Artist, a really dark mini-series about a high-powered lawyer who helps a serial killer go free and regrets it. Hopefully that’s on-demand near you.

2) Peaky Blinders: My homegirl Mary HK Choi randomly recommended a Netflix series called Peaky Blinders, with zero context. I’m glad she did. It’s two seasons worth of bloody, suspenseful post-World War I drama about a family of Irish gangsters, who wear tweed caps with razors sewn into the brims. Starring Cillian Murphy (28 Days Later, Batman Begins) who is fantastic.

3) Marco Polo: I’m excited to check out this upcoming Netflix series, Marco Polo, which dumps on Dec 12th. According to this past weekend’s NYT story, it’s a massive epic that cost $90 million for just 10 episodes, the most expensive series Netflix has ever made. So I’m expecting over the top production, and lots of juicy drama about the Mongolian Empire and travels of Venetian merchant, Marco Polo. Not to mention insane costumes and scenery from the sets built in Italy, Kazakhstan and Malaysia.

What In The Hell Caused This Enormous Flash Over Russia?

An ominous dash-cam video has captured an extraordinarily bright orange flash in Russia's Sverdlovsk region in the Urals. Though the event was witnessed by many onlookers, there's still no explanation for what appears to be a rather massive blast.

A woman had me use her photo as part of her new ad. She paid for some touch-ups with Photoshop, so I sent her the new picture.

Client: I look great! Is there any way you can make my breasts a little larger though?

I thought it an odd request but proceeded anyway. However, she still wasn’t satisfied with the second, or even the third copy. However, once I sent the fourth, I got an angry email.

Client: Why did you make my breasts so big?! I look like a bimbo!

I then showed her the numerous requests she sent me. I got another email shortly after.

Client: Sorry for the confusion. The first draft is fine. My husband decided to answer my emails for me.

In the pipeline...

by Kristian Richards
THANKGODYOUREHERE

this guy is the artsiest of all dungeon masters.

If you've been following me on the various social media sites then you've probably got a rough idea of the kind of things I've been working on recently - but if not, here's a quick look at what's to come...

Dungeon Encounters

This booklet is being written for the Age of Shadow system (being the 2nd encounter/adventure booklet for the AoS).

- maps of the encounter areas -

As you can see (and as the title suggests), this one is more dungeon based than the last one ...though I'm writing it in such a way that each encounter area is pretty much self-contained - but with an overarching theme (so that they can also be linked together).

The (yet to be titled) Village map-pack

This map-pack will contain a map of a small village (that might also have some AoS background material included - similar to the current 'Fortress' map-packs) ...with detailed maps of all the major buildings - done in a similar style to the 'Into the City' range...

- interior maps completed thus far -

...except that this time, each building has been given more of a dark-age appearance (making them suitable for human settlements in the AoS setting).

More 2.5D/papercraft Dungeons

I've also got a few more ideas for things to add to the 2.5D dungeon...

...so there should be more (free) pdfs & tutorials coming later this month.

More 'Basic' Dungeons

Another product line I hope to expand upon before the end of the year, is the pay-what-you-want dungeon tiles...

...with the aim of introducing larger (multi-page) rooms, using tiles similar to the one pictured above.

And on a personal note...

And finally, I'm (once again) trying to make more of an effort to reduce my pile of unpainted miniatures...

- my box of plastic 'fantasy' stuff -

...and so far (rather than buying yet more miniatures) I've managed to kit-bash a few miniatures together to use as the 'half-breed spies' featured in one of the adventures in the 'Encounters in the Northlands' booklet.

* * *

And that's it for now. There's a couple more things I have on the go ...but I'll not bore you with those just yet :)

Here's The First Trailer For StarCraft II: Legacy of the Void
