A 10,000 Square Foot Ball Pit Situated Within a National Museum Lets Visitors Experience the Beach Indoors
Mahmoudai wei wei's was way better.

All images by Noah Kalina
Brooklyn-based experimental studio Snarkitecture is bringing the ocean indoors, transforming water and waves into nearly one million recyclable translucent plastic balls. Covering 10,000 square feet of the National Building Museum in Washington D.C., the interactive installation titled “The BEACH” will include white beach chairs and umbrellas to simulate seaside vibes, while maintaining the monochrome feel that Snarkitecture has become known for.
Snarkitecture primarily works within the space between art and architecture, blending experience and design. The collaborative firm was started by Alex Mustonen and Daniel Arsham and they explain that their focus is “on the viewer’s experience and memory, creating moments of wonder and interaction that allow people to engage directly with their surrounding environment.”
A unique experience is achieved in their latest installation, the museum inviting visitors to wade within the sea of plastic spheres, relax in one of the many chairs at the “shore’s edge,” and grab drinks at the snack bar. You can visit The BEACH through September 7 or visit it virtually with the museum’s live stream.

Software Developer – Python (m/f) - BMW Car IT GmbH
Mahmoudcan someone clarify if (m/f) means male/female? because if so, this is a very bizarre way to be inclusive
GNU/Linux, Yocto, Python, C, C++, /bin/sh, git, and fancy cars: we have it all!
We offer you a chance to work in an international team at BMW Car IT, where we are cooperating closely with other BMW departments and companies responsible for designing and building automotive software components.
You can focus on one of two key development areas.

The SDK will give developers a state of the art IDE, cross compilation environment, debuggers, and connections to real and virtual target HW. You will combine the best open source and proprietary solutions to a seamless developer (m/f) experience for hundreds of SW developers (m/f).
2) Yocto developer (m/f) This work includes diverse activities ranging from analyzing and planning software deliveries in cooperation with the development teams, to supporting developers and integrators in compiling, packaging, testing and debugging software components of a fully embedded Linux distribution.

Divorce Rate Increases For 12 Years, Social Utilities Blamed
Mahmouddodged a bullet; i dated a girl in chaoyang
Recently the Ministry of Civil Affairs issued the “2014 Social Security Growth Statistics Bulletin”, revealing that 3,637,000 couples filed for divorce last year, thus marking the 12th consecutive year that divorce rates have increased. “Flash” marriages and divorces are also on the up, with Haidian and Chaoyang in Beijing being the districts with the highest divorce numbers. In addition to new laws making divorce procedures easier, social utility software such as Momo, which allows easy contact with strangers, have also been blamed. Some netizens didn’t want to divorce for their kids’ sake.

“Zombie Meat” Being Sold to Restaurants for 17RMB Per Ton
Mahmoud17RMB is less than 3 dollars, I think. So aside from various other questions raised by this, I want to ask, where were these $0.01 no-reserve auctions being held?
In the past few days, journalists have been uncovering details about a massive shipment of expired meat intercepted crossing the Chinese border.
Most of the meat came from stockpiles of food prepared in case of war, with a large quantity coming from America. Because the meat has oxidized over time, it appears black and cannot be sold directly to consumers, but after being prepared by restaurants, it is difficult for consumers to tell the difference.
Netizens had a lot to say about the meat, which sold for an average of 17 RMB per ton, with one jokingly commenting “Waiter, I’ll have a 1980 cut of beef, and an ’82 Coke.”

North Korea Calls World to Action: Chop off the Four Limbs of America
Mahmoudseems a little weird to count both feet as one limb

A large meeting commemorating the 65th anniversary of the outbreak of the Korean War was recently held in Pyonyang, where the North Korean Government denounced America’s crime of destroying the peace 65 years ago.
North Korea’s National Defense Committee called on the world to join the fight against America, and to “chop off America’s four limbs”, saying Asia should cut off its right arm, Africa its left, the Middle East its feet and Europe its neck.
The highest voted netizen comments didn’t take North Korea seriously, saying things like “You don’t even have food to eat and you’ve started making a scene again.” and “San Pangzi [nickname for Kim Jong Un] you’e so silly! If you’ve got the ability, you should go cut America personally…”

Guinea’s New Currency Sports Chinese Built Dam
Mahmoudthis gets pretty confusing toward the end
The center of Guinea’s newly circulated 20,000 franc note as of 2015 now sports a picture of the Kaleta Hydropower Station, the building of which was contracted out to a Chinese company. After the completion of this station, power outages in Guinea are expected to be greatly reduced and the economy should prosper. It is expected to be completed and with it their need for energy satiated by the end of May. Chinese Netizens respond by saying Guineans should be thankful for the free gift. This is a lot like giving a fool 100 RMB and the fool then knowing that they have to call you “Dad”.

Circuit-bending neural network layers to produce ZALGO hellscapes.
Mahmoudi, too, would like to see inception disappear from public vernacular, but mostly these things creep me out enough that i have limited my reblogging of them on drivel.biz
Inceptionism: Going Deeper into Neural NetworksWe train an artificial neural network by showing it millions of training examples and gradually adjusting the network parameters until it gives the classifications we want. The network typically consists of 10-30 stacked layers of artificial neurons. Each image is fed into the input layer, which then talks to the next layer, until eventually the "output" layer is reached. The network's "answer" comes from this final output layer.
So then they reach inside to one of the layers and spin the knob randomly to fuck it up. Lower layers are edges and curves. Higher layers are faces, eyes and shoggoth ovipositors.
So here's one surprise: neural networks that were trained to discriminate between different kinds of images have quite a bit of the information needed to generate images too.
That part, they kinda gloss over...
But the best part is not when they just glitch an image -- which is a fun kind of embossing at one end, and the "extra eyes" filter at the other -- but is when they take a net trained on some particular set of objects and feed it static, then zoom in, and feed the output back in repeatedly. That's when you converge upon the platonic ideal of those objects, which -- it turns out -- tend to be Giger nightmare landscapes. Who knew. (I knew.)
PS: Inception sucked.
