A Mind-Boggling Demonstration of Overtone Singing, A Method for Creating a Tone and Overtone at the Same Time

by EDW Lynch

In this mind-boggling video, singer Anna-Maria Hefele demonstrates polyphonic overtone singing, in which a singer sounds like they are creating two pitches at once. The singer creates two tones — the fundamental and overtone — by altering the shape of their mouth and throat to manipulate resonances in their voice (the two apparent tones are, technically speaking, a single frequency). Overtone singing is found in a number of music traditions around the world, including Tuvan throat singing.

The Sounds of Aerobatic Paragliding

by Christopher Jobson

The Sounds of Aerobatic Paragliding stunts sound paragliding

First: put on your headphones or turn up the volume, otherwise the beauty of this clip might be lost. Sounds of Paragliding is a new video from director Shams (previously), and sound engineer Thibaut Darscotte who took special equipment into the skies above France to record the sounds of Théo de Blic’s aerobatic paragliding. Instead of amping up the music and intensity like so many high-speed stunt/wingsuit/skydiving videos these days, Shams instead slows everything down to focus on only the sounds created by Blic’s parasail whipping through the air at incredible speed. It doesn’t really get going until after 2:00, but is completely worth it.

Air Jordan 1 Mid – Wolf Grey/Tropical Teal

by Patrick

Air Jordan 1 Mid – Wolf Grey/Tropical Teal

With all the releases going on this season, sometimes its hard to catch everything that runs across our screen. However, this latest from Air Jordan shouldn’t be missed. A silo that has been picking a number of colorways since the summer, this Air Jordan 1 Mid in a Wolf Grey/Tropical Teal is a fresh take on the model that has traditionally been coated in bold reds, blacks, and blues, offering somewhat of a subtle, casual feel. While the main body of the sneaker sees a Wolf Grey coating and the canvas toe box and tongue a darker blue, it’s the vibrant splash of Tropical Teal for the wings logo and the lining that pull this look together. See more of what we mean after the jump and head to those select spots with them in stock, including Sneaker Politics.

The Barely-There Brush Mouse

by Troy Turner

The innovative Brush Mouse is a clever twist on the classic smooth-top peripheral device. Unlike the continuous surface of the regular mouse, the pegged design keeps hands from getting sticky and hot. The ergonomic solution also prevents hand fatigue by distributing pressure evenly and giving the hand a mini-massage as it moves! With less material, it’s also thinner, lighter and easier to keep clean. See both prototypes in action after the jump —>

Daring Dachshund Goes on First Skydiving Trip Strapped to His Adventurous Human

by Lori Dorn
Mrdesplaines

poor dog. like he really wanted to jump out of a fucking plane..

A daring dachshund named Riley went on his very first skydiving trip strapped his adventurous photographer human Nathan Batiste, who said stated that the jump was “the best he’s ever experienced”.

Riley the dog stunned onlookers when he took his daily exercise at 13,000ft by jumping out an aeroplane strapped to his adrenalin-junkie owner. The four-year old Dachshund completed his first ever skydive with owner Nathan Batiste, 38, who claimed it was the best jump he’s ever experienced. Nathan, a photographer from San Francisco, has made more than 400 jumps in his lifetime but this was the first time he had taken his canine companion along. The little dog was kitted out with his very own pair of doggles for the jump and strapped to his owner’s chest.
