Wild Animals React With Curiosity, Vanity and Hostility at Mirrors That Were Placed in Their Respective Paths
French photographer Xavier Hubert Brierre recently travelled to Gabon, Africa to set up a number of mirrors around different locations in order to capture the varied reactions that the resident wild animals would have when they gazed upon their respective reflections. Each animal had a different reaction – a leopard purred at his reflection, a gorilla challenged his reflection, an elephant ignored her reflection and a group of chimps just sat in front of the mirror with open curiosity.

#Instagram: Inspired By RuPaul’s Drag Race, Phil Ferguson Crochets Fun Hats
When Phil Ferguson, @chiliphilly, isn’t serving burgers at Tuck Shop Take Away in Melbourne, Australia, he’s crocheting hats that look like pizza and watermelon slices, plates of spaghetti and donuts…
“I started watching RuPaul’s Drag Race and got a real appreciation for drag. I was thinking of different sorts of hats I could create a character with. I think of food first, then get appropriately colored wool and go from there. I don’t plan or sketch – I just do.”
And see what he do – we love. Follow him on Instagram to see what he makes next.

Miniature Hand Blown Glass Vessels and Scientific Instruments by Kiva Ford
Mrdesplainesi want a tiny glass pipe for weeds now..

Glass artist Kiva Ford draws from his vast experience in scientific glassblowing to create perfect miniatures of wine glasses, beakers, and ribbon-striped vases, some scarcely an inch tall. A member of the American Scientific Glassblowers Society, Kiva creates instruments for scientists who require one-of-a-kind designs for various experiments. The same techniques and tools used for scientific equipment also apply to his artistic practice including the miniature works you see here, as well as larger sculptures, and ornate drinkware.
This week Kiva will be doing several demonstrations of both artistic and scientific glassblowing at the Corning Museum of Glass in New York as part of GlassFest. You can also purchase many of his miniatures on Etsy, or follow on Instagram. (via Colossal Submissions, Art is a Way, thnx Rachel!)

An Updated Version of the Classic 1990s SunnyD Ad Shows the Radical Rollerbladers Have Not Quite Grown Up
In a goofy new ad, Mrs. B from the classic 1990s Sunny Delight commercial has had enough after enduring 20 years of radical rollerbladers raiding her fridge for SunnyD (the much cooler name for what was once Sunny Delight after a 2003 controversy forced rebranding).

How Wild Cats Domesticated Themselves Without the Help of Humans
On a recent episode of Through the Wormhole, host Morgan Freeman explains how cats have evolved over the years and how, unlike other animals, they largely domesticated themselves into the wonderful creatures they currently are.
Nature uses essentially the same genetic recipe to turn wild animals into domestic creatures, but did ancient man attempt to domesticate a wild cat or did these animals do it themselves?

The Bizarre ‘Art’ of Creative Dog Grooming
Mrdesplainesthe yoda...

Ok… there’s art… and then there’s this. You don’t get more bizarre than creative dog grooming. These fluffy (and hopefully clueless) mutts have been dyed to look like everything from real-life My Little Pony’s to the entire cast of The Muppets stuck onto one furry dog body. The amount of planning that go into each of these creations is astounding, but it’s also astounding that this even happens.
Lucky for these dogs, the dye if vegetable-based and washes out after the show. Most of the dogs are entered in competitions between professional groomers from around the world, with each trying to one-up the other with the craziest design. Most of the trimming is done while in competition, while the dogs are pampered with cooling fans, furniture and entertainment on TV. Most groomers report the dogs prefer sports or Cartoon Network.
See the grooming in action at the bottom of this post.
