A realidade virtual ainda não está pronta. Ah, ela é ótima — mas ainda não te convence por completo de que você está em outro lugar. Mas quanta certeza você tem do mundo real? Ontem, o guru da Oculus, Michael Abrash, usou essas ilusões de ótica para mostrar quão falso nosso mundo real é.

Lembra de Matrix? Você escolheria a pílula vermelha ou a azul?

Isso importa quando as duas são cinza?

Acha que esta olhando para quadrados amarelos e azuis nestes Cubos de Rubik abaixo? Pense de novo. (Não , isso não explica aquele vestido horroroso). “As cores que você vê são construídas inteiramente pelo seu sistema de percepção”, explica Abrash.

Abaixo, os pisos centrais são mais claros, certos? “Seu sistema visual inverte a realidade”, diz Abrash.

E esse tabuleiro tá meio torto, não é?

A única diferente entre o tabuleiro torto e este abaixo é que foram adicionados pontos em cada quadrado. Eles fazem com que você detecte o contraste.

“Uma série de disposições na janela dão a ela uma perspectiva que não existe. O seu sistema visual acredita que a janela está rodando apenas metade de uma rotação completa. Isso não é o que ocorre na realidade, então você acaba vendo algo impossível”, diz Abrash.

Como é que a cabeça desse dragão está se mexendo?

Talvez a mais incrível das ilusões que explicou seja a do efeito McGurk. Pule para os 2m30s do vídeo abaixo, olhe para um lábio de cada vez e tende adivinhar o que a mulher está dizendo.

Abrash explica que nossos cérebros foram treinados por anos para aceitar conclusões simples, rápidas e baseadas em poucas informações, em vez de ver o mundo real pelo o que ele realmente é — o que prova o cérebro pode ser enganado.

Como Morpheus diz em matrix — e Abrash citou no começo da apresentação — humanos tem pouco controle da realidade.

“O que é real? Como você define real? Se você se refere ao que você pode sentir, o que você pode cheirar, o que você pode saborear e ver, então “real” são apenas sinais elétricos interpretados pelo seu cérebro.

Ou seja, de repente seu YouTube poderá ter uma qualidade de dar inveja para muita TV por aí. O único problema nessa história vai ser se você terá banda larga o suficiente pra fazer streaming do vídeo, e se o seu dispositivo terá capacidade suficiente para exibir uma qualidade ultra HD (3840 x 2160 de resolução).

O Engadget frisa que nem vale a pena você tentar assistir o vídeo nessa qualidade se seu dispositivo não tiver capacidade para tanto, já que a imagem vai ficar bem pior que a encomenda.

Florian de Looij first sat down with a copy of Photoshop when he was 12 years old and apparently he never got up. The Netherlands-based designer has been exploring digital animation and illustration ever since, and late last year started sharing his animation experiments on a Tumblr called FLRN GIF. Florian says he’s always been inspired by the likes of M.C. Escher and other artists working with optical illusions, something that has clearly influenced the direction of his design practice.
