Many of us are familiar with the logos of automobile companies. Some people are especially conscious of those of the luxury cars, as their logos are status symbols in certain circles. Yet even if some folks are able to draw or describe automobile logos, how many know the meanings behind them? The article linked below sheds some light on those symbols.
The example highlighted here is Subaru. The logo is an attractive image of six silver crosses against a deep blue background. The word "Subaru" in Japanese means "united." In addition, it's the name for the Pleiades star cluster. This astral formation is the nearest star cluster to Earth and is most visible to the naked eye in the night's sky. In this context, the star cluster is symbolic of the six companies that merged to form Fuji Heavy Industries.

"How does the NFL’s Roger Goodell stay in power? By acting like a dictator."
First, a key lesson from the autocrat’s playbook is this: After you take power, eliminate the powerful people who helped get you there. They know your weaknesses and the skeletons in your closet. For Goodell, no one fits that description like Kraft, who owns the Patriots.
...
Goodell has isolated Kraft among the group of NFL owners, significantly reducing his influence.
Scouts Guide To The Zombie Apocalypse Red Band Trailer

Paramount Pictures has released a red band (i.e. uncensored or R-rated) trailer for their upcoming Halloween release Scouts Guide To The Zombie Apocalypse. Directed by Christopher Landon, the writer of the Paranormal Activity sequels and director of Paranormal Activity: The Marked Ones, comes a modern Amblin-esque story of a bunch of Boy Scouts who go on an overnight adventure on the same night of the zombie apocalypse. Watch the Scouts Guide To The Zombie Apocalypse red band trailer now embedded after the jump. Leave your thoughts in the comments below.
Scouts Guide To The Zombie Apocalypse Trailer
When I first heard about this script, co-written by College Road Trip screenwriters Emi Mochizuki and Carrie Lee Wilson, I was expecting something fun but a lot less graphic. The movie seems like its going for a Superbad meets The Lost Boys kind of feel. The premise seems fun, and very different than most of the other Zombie films out there. And it seems like Zombieland 2 isn’t going to happen any time soon.
Scouts Guide To The Zombie Apocalypse stars Tye Sheridan, David Koechner, Cloris Leachman, Halston Sage, Logan Miller, Joey Morgan, and Sarah Dumont. The film features music from Dillon Francis (Money Sucks, Friends Rule and This Mixtape Is Fire). Here is the film’s official synopsis:
Three scouts and lifelong friends join forces with one badass cocktail waitress to become the world’s most unlikely team of heroes. When their peaceful town is ravaged by a zombie invasion, they’ll fight for the badge of a lifetime and put their scouting skills to the test to save mankind from the undead.
Scouts Guide To The Zombie Apocalypse, directed by Christopher Landon will hit theaters on October 30th 2015. You can also check out some boy scout merit bagde-themed clips that were previously released from the film:

"The Day Someone Signed Me Up For An Ashley Madison Account (That Day Would Be Yesterday)"
CoreyFantastic.
Yesterday afternoon, I got a message telling me "Welcome to Day 1 of your Ashley Madison Experience." Someone using my email signed me up, using the rather creative account name "masnicator." I'm kinda surprised that Ashley Madison is still even allowing online signups (let alone not using an email verification system, or for that matter even keeping the site up at all). But, perhaps even more ridiculous is that in the "welcome" email, it highlights how the service is "100% Secure."
Perhaps even more amusing is that just three minutes after this fake registration, I also got a fake message from someone.

ABC has released some teaser videos, from their upcoming show, The Muppets, a reality type show that follows the Muppets in their personal lives. The 30-second teasers have ABC actors interacting with our favorite puppets. They are so good, it's making me really look forward to this - a show I will like and one that I can watch with my kids.

Watch Andrei Arlovski's epic first-round TKO of Travis Browne at UFC 187
Filed under: News, UFC, Videos
The UFC has a pair of epic career resurgences going on in the heavyweight division right now, and we’ll soon see what happens when they collide.
Former heavyweight champions Andrei Arlovski (24-10 MMA, 13-4 UFC) and Frank Mir (18-9 MMA, 16-9 UFC) meet in the co-main event of UFC 191 next month.
In 2011, it looked like Arlovski’s career was dead in the water. He was on a four-fight skid, including first-round knockout losses to Fedor Emelianenko, Brett Rogers and Sergei Kharitonov in the Affliction and Strikeforce promotions. But he won six of his next seven fights and got another shot with the UFC, returning in 2014 more than six years after he left.
Mir’s rough patch was much more recent. He dropped four straight between 2012 and 2014, including TKO losses to Junior Dos Santos and Josh Barnett and decision losses to Daniel Cormier and Alistair Overeem.
Arlovski now has five straight wins and victories in nine of his past 10, including three straight since coming back to the UFC. Included in that mix was an upset of Antonio Silva in their rematch in Brazil in September – a bonus-winning first-round knockout – and a first-round TKO of Travis Browne that won “Fight of the Night” honors in May at UFC 187.
And Mir has back-to-back wins in 2015, also both in a big way. In February, he won a bonus when he knocked out Silva in Brazil. And just a month ago, he knocked out Todd Duffee in their UFC Fight Night 71 main event to win another $50,000 bonus.
In the video above, check out Arlovski’s thrilling knockout of Browne at UFC 187 – a back-and-forth battle that saw each fighter put the other in trouble in the first round before Arlovski finally put the Hawaiian away.
Then don’t miss Arlovski vs. Mir in the UFC 191 co-main event, which takes place Sept. 5 at MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas. The main card airs on pay-per-view following prelims on FOX Sports 1 and UFC Fight Pass.

Sesame Street lasted a long time. It even survived the collapse of civilization. But it was a very different place. Come and play. Everything's A-OK. Friendly neighbors there. That's where we meet. Just keep singing that song. Pretend that nothing has changed and you'll feel a lot better. Try to not make eye contact with the new residents, though.

Explaining Global Economic Systems With Two Cows
Understanding the differences between various economic and political systems can be quite difficult, or it can all be explained with a little help from two cows.

Newstalk ZB came up with some fun new versions of the old "You have two cows" satirical bit that makes it so easy to understand things like modern corporate economics that even a moo-ron can figure it out!

Of course, this Ecownomic method is merely meant to steer us in the right direction in a no bull kinda way, so it doesn’t really dig in to the meat and potatoes of each system.
But it's so universal that it can even be used to explain something as esoteric as Surrealism:

That explanation is easier to digest than a steak dinner and a glass of milk!

‘Vinyl’ Trailer: The Unrepentant ’70s Rock Excess of Martin Scorsese’s New HBO Series
CoreyI like it.

Here’s the first legit footage from Vinyl, which is the new HBO show from Martin Scorsese, Mick Jagger, and Terence Winter. And while we really liked the brief mood-setting teaser released earlier this week, this is something else altogether. Imagine the energy and approach Scorsese took to The Wolf of Wall Street, applied to a story set in the office of a struggling late ’70s record label and the stages and back rooms of the ’70s music scene.
Bobby Cannavale plays the president of the label American Century Records, and the first Vinyl trailer uses him as a way to introduce the first footage.
This is kinda red-band thanks to a little bit of bad language.
Trailer via HBO.
To refresh, the show features Mick Jagger’s son James Jagger plays a punk frontman named Kip Stevens in the series — who looks more New York Dolls punk than, say, Ramones punk — and the series also features Ray Romano as Cannavale’s friend and partner; Olivia Wilde as his wife; Andrew “Dice” Clay as the owner of a radio franchise; and P.J. Byrne, Joe Caniano, Max Casella, J.C. MacKenzie, Birgitte Hjort Sørensen, Juno Temple, Jack Quaid, and Paul Ben-Victor.
Vinyl premieres in 2016.
From Martin Scorsese, Mick Jagger and Terence Winter, this new 10-episode drama series is set in 1970s New York. A ride through the sex- and drug-addled music business at the dawn of punk, disco, and hip-hop, the show is seen through the eyes of a record label president, Richie Finestra, played by Bobby Cannavale, who is trying to save his company and his soul without destroying everyone in his path.

‘This Is The End’ Maze Coming To Halloween Horror Nights 2015
At San Diego Comic Con International 2015, Guillermo del Toro announced that there would be a Crimson Peak maze for this year’s Halloween Horror Nights. It has since been revealed that Focus Features and Sony Pictures Home Entertainment are teaming with Universal Studios in both Hollywood and Orlando to create all-new mazes based on the Insidious film franchise, and Halloween will come home with the Halloween: Michael Myers Comes Home maze.
Universal Studios today announces something that sounds like it could be a bit more fun than those horrifying properties — a Halloween Horror Nights maze based on the film This Is The End which starred James Franco, Seth Rogen, Jonah Hill, Jay Baruchel, Danny McBride and Craig Robinson. The maze will be presented in hypnotic 3D, because why not?
The end of the world will begin as guests head to the ultimate A-list party at James Franco’s new Hollywood Hills home, before the Apocalypse strikes and they find themselves trapped in a life-and-death struggle against the demons of the underworld. With the fate of humanity at the crossroads of heaven and hell, “This is the End 3D” will offer defining moments for those guests brave enough to tempt the devil as their destiny hangs in the balance to be damned for eternity or raptured to heaven engulfed in a sea of blue light.

Universal Studios Hollywood Casts This is the End in an All-New Terrifying 3D “Halloween Horror Nights” Maze, Based on the Hit Film Starring James Franco, Seth Rogen, Jonah Hill, Jay Baruchel, Danny McBride and Craig Robinson Beginning Friday, September 18
Universal City, California, August 12, 2015 – In a bold, new approach to bringing iconic horror films to life during “Halloween Horror Nights,” Universal Studios Hollywood will break new ground with the introduction of its first ever 3D horror-comedy maze, “This is the End 3D,” based on 2013’s hit movie starring James Franco, Seth Rogen Jonah Hill, Jay Baruchel, Danny McBride and Craig Robinson. “Halloween Horror Nights” begins on Friday, September 18, 2015.
The hilarity of this genre-defying blockbuster movie, This is the End, will take a dark turn in this all-new maze experience that will come to life in hypnotic 3D.
“This is the End brings a new dimension of fear to ‘Halloween Horror Nights’ by fusing the best of two extreme worlds—horror and comedy— to create a literal and figurative three-dimensional experiential version of the film,” said John Murdy, Creative Director at Universal Studios Hollywood and Executive Producer of “Halloween Horror Nights.” “Our collaboration with James Franco, Seth Rogen and Jonah Hill to transform this outrageous movie into a terrifying maze underscores the impact of ‘Halloween Horror Nights’ as one the most influential Halloween events around.”
“Halloween Horror Nights” 2015 at Universal Studios Hollywood kicks off on Friday, September 18 and continues on select nights through November 1. The popular event brings together the sickest minds in horror to immerse guests in a living, breathing, three-dimensional world of terror. Featuring an all-new slate of unrivaled film production quality mazes, frightful scare zones and a fully re-imagined “Terror Tram” experience uniquely themed to today’s most definitive horror properties, “Halloween Horror Nights” will taunt, terrorize and torment guests with spine-chilling haunted attractions during Southern California’s most extreme Halloween experience.
Recent maze announcements include “Guillermo del Toro Presents Crimson Peak: Maze of Madness,” based on Legendary and Universal Pictures’ much-anticipated Crimson Peak film directed, co-written and produced by celebrated filmmaker Guillermo del Toro; “The Walking Dead: Wolves Not Far,” based on season 5 of the critically-acclaimed, Emmy Award®-winning television series, “Insidious: Return to the Further,” based on the bone-chilling Insidious film trilogy, and “Halloween: Michael Myers Comes Home,” based on director John Carpenter’s cult-classic horror film. This year’s event will also feature the global phenomenon and multi-talented dance crew, Jabbawockeez, direct from Las Vegas in an all-new original show, performing multiple times per night throughout the run of “Halloween Horror Nights.”

Coming Distractions: The first real Hateful Eight trailer has arrived
CoreyYessssss.

After what feels like years of anticipation—because this thing has been years in the making—the Weinstein Co. has finally released the first real trailer for Quentin Tarantino’s The Hateful Eight. While earlier trailers featured little more than the names of the eponymous eight, this one shows off not only the “crazy beautiful” snowy Western landscapes that impressed viewers at Comic-Con last month, but also some of that signature quippy dialogue that has inspired a legion of Tarantino imitators. The actors, most of whom are returning Tarantino players, seem to be playing to their strengths: Samuel L. Jackson is talking tough, Tim Roth is charming and unhinged, Michael Madsen is a snake in the grass, Jennifer Jason Leigh indulges in some rather literal gallows humor, and Walton Goggins is having a rip-roarin’, pistol-shootin’ good time. But the real stars of the trailer are Kurt Russell’s Grizzly Adams ...
