‘Trainwreck’ Outtakes: Watch the Hilarious Improvised Riffs That Didn’t Make the Cut

by Angie Han

lebron trainwreck

In typical Judd Apatow fashion, Trainwreck runs a bit long, thanks in part to its lengthy improvised riffs. But even at 125 minutes, Trainwreck had to leave a few bits of comedy gold on the cutting room floor. So Universal has released some of the best unused lines in a hilarious Trainwreck outtakes video. Watch it after the jump.

The Trainwreck outtakes went up on YouTube. There aren’t any major spoilers (not that you could really spoil a movie like this anyway), but be warned it’s very much NSFW for nudity and language.

LeBron James was the surprise scene-stealer of Trainwreck, and he’s the surprise scene-stealer of the Trainwreck outtakes as well. You’d expect comedy veterans like Amy Schumer, Bill Hader, Vanessa Bayer, Randall Park, and Mike Birbiglia to be comfortable improvising, but James more than holds his own. If he ever gets tired of that whole basketball thing, maybe he can try auditioning for Saturday Night Live. His BFF Hader could probably put in a good word for him.

That last scene of him gushing about Cleveland might be the best part of the whole video, though some of the pitches from that S’Nuff staff meeting are pretty spectacular as well. I’d totally read “Get Your Girlfriend’s Pussy That New Car Smell,” if only out of morbid curiosity.

Trainwreck is in theaters now.

Since she was a little girl, it’s been drilled into Amy’s (Amy Schumer) head by her rascal of a dad (Colin Quinn) that monogamy isn’t realistic. Now a magazine writer, Amy lives by that credo — enjoying what she feels is an uninhibited life free from stifling, boring romantic commitment — but in actuality, she’s kind of in a rut. When she finds herself starting to fall for the subject of the new article she’s writing, a charming and successful sports doctor named Aaron Conners (Bill Hader), Amy starts to wonder if other grown-ups, including this guy who really seems to like her, might be on to something.

Rumor: Steven Spielberg Trying to Convince Gene Wilder to Un-Retire

by Angie Han

Gene Wilder in Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory

Gene Wilder hasn’t been seen onscreen since an Emmy-winning guest spot on Will & Grace in 2003, and in 2008 he publicly announced his retirement. He’s said he’d be willing to return for Mel Brooks, but otherwise it’d probably take something huge to get him to un-retire. Like, perhaps… a Steven Spielberg movie?

Rumor has it Spielberg is trying to coax Wilder back in front of cameras for one of his upcoming projects — perhaps The BFG, or even Ready Player One. More on the Steven Spielberg Gene Wilder rumor after the jump.

AICN originally reported the Steven Spielberg Gene Wilder rumor. According to their sources, “meetings will be or already have taken place,” so we may not be just talking about idle fantasy-casting here. Still unclear is which project Spielberg wants Wilder for, as there are two on his plate that seem pretty perfect for Wilder in different ways.

Their source suggests The BFG, based on the book by Roald Dahl. The film has already wrapped production and is set for a summer 2016 release, but it’s not too late for Wilder to contribute a voice role. One of Wilder’s iconic performances was as Willy Wonka in Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory, another Dahl adaptation. Should Wilde return for The BFG, it’d make for a pretty sweet callback.

However, AICN also floats the Ernest Cline adaptation Ready Player One, due out in late 2017. Specifically, they point out he’d be perfect for the role of James Halliday, a virtual reality universe creator whose will promises his massive empire to the gamer who discovers a certain Easter egg. Sound a bit like a certain candy magnate we know?

Of course, those are just theories. Nothing’s been confirmed by Spielberg or Wilder at this point, and for all we know they’re discussing a completely different part. And whatever the role, there’s no telling whether Wilder will actually say yes. But for now, count us among the great many fans hoping Spielberg is part of the very short list of people who could convince Wilder to come out of retirement.

Waiting for ‘Space Jam 2’? Here’s Marvin the Martian vs Blake Griffin in a Dunk Contest

by Ethan Anderton

Blake Griffin Marvin Martian

Last year brought rumblings of LeBron James being sought for Space Jam 2, but they turned out to just be rumors. This year, however, speculation has grown about the basketball star stepping into the world of Looney Tunes after signing a new deal with Warner Bros. for future film and television projects.

But even though new trademarks for Space Jam were filed last month, there’s no guarantee it will happen at all. In the meantime though, basketball star Blake Griffin had some fun with the Looney Tunes, specifically Marvin the Martian, in a new commercial that has the two facing off on a slam dunk contest. It’s as close as we can get to a Space Jam 2 right now. Watch the Blake Griffin Marvin the Martian match-up after the jump!

Here’s the Nike commercial with Blake Griffin and Marvin the Martian (via Cartoon Brew):

The blending of live-action and animation has gotten much better since Space Jam debuted in 1996, nearly 20 years ago, but this is purely a commercial for Nike tennis shoes, so it’s hard to get too excited by the content on display here. But at the very least, this goes to show you that Warner Bros. is still having fun bringing famous athletes in to play around with their iconic animated characters.

Now that LeBron James has proven he can do comedy with some of the best in the business with a key supporting role in Judd Apatow’s movie Trainwreck alongside Bill Hader and Amy Schumer, it’s the perfect time to make it happen. There will always be the endless fight as to whether or not LeBron is as good as Jordan, but that shouldn’t stop him from following in his footsteps and making Space Jam 2 a possibility for a new generation of basketball and cartoon fans.

Having someone like Blake Griffin, who isn’t bad in front of the camera either, wouldn’t be a bad addition in a supporting role. After all, the rest of the basketball stars in Space Jam were positively terrible actors. Come to think of it, even though Michael Jordan had a lot of fun in the movie, he wasn’t that great of an actor in it either. So LeBron James might actually get a chance to be better than Jordan at something other than basketball.

For those curious, the commercial was directed by Spike Brandt from Warner Bros. Animation with the animation being done by a veteran crew that includes Dale Baer, Dan Haskett, John McClenahan, Jeff Siergey, Neal Sternecky, Bill Waldman and Dean Wellins. If there ever is a Space Jam 2, hopefully these animators are brought in for it.

In ‘The Last Man on Earth’ Season 2 Will Forte Goes to the White House

by Fred Topel
Corey

I liked season one. I think I am just a big Will Forte fan due to MacGruber.

last man on earth season 2

The cast and creators of The Last Man on Earth mingled with the press at the Television Critics Association summer press tour yesterday. Fox execs announced Jason Sudeikis is going to be added to the cast, but the mere attendance of January Jones at this even suggests that the show has not abandoned its Tucson-based characters, even though (spoiler) Phil Miller (Will Forte) and Carol Pilbasian (Kristen Schaal) left Tucson in the season finale.

Executive producer Chris Miller was careful not to spoil too much of the upcoming season, but hinted at how the split works out. “I will say that Phil and Carol are in one place at the very beginning,” Chris Miller said. “January is in another place. I will also say that the majority of this season does not take place in Tucson.”

That move means all-new locations and sets, so Chris Miller dropped info on one hot new locale. (I love that I have to specify which Miller now, thanks to the name of the show’s main character.) “I can say that the White House will be involved in some way,” he said.

I later spoke to Forte about his character Phil Miller running rampant in the White House. “There are some definite hijinks going on at the White House,” Forte said. “Not the typical stuff you probably see in the White House. It’s our version of what would happen in the White House if you were two of the only people on Earth.”

So it’s the interior of the White House, which can be shot on a set in California where shows like 24 filmed. “It’s the marquee White House rooms that we all know about,” Forte said.

“We have a fun series of things we’re doing in there. It’s so crazy to see the White House in Chatsworth, CA. We’re two blocks down from a huge dildo factory so it seems disrespectful but that’s where we are.”

Forte has his scraggly beard fully grown again. Forte confirmed the new season picks up six months after the finale, hence the time it took him to grow it back. More so than the passage of time, the beard is back for artistic reasons.

“We did it for the story and it just felt like the right thing to do,” Forte said. “A lot of season two has to do with Phil grappling with what he became and trying to be a better person. So it just seemed like growing the beard back was a symbol of that attempt to be a better person. We don’t start shooting until Monday, so if we decide at the last minute that I’m going to shave it off, then that’s what I’ll do. It does feel a little bit like it’s the right way to go.”

When I ask Forte questions about Phil Miller, he likes to correct me that his character is still going by Tandy. Tandy is his middle name, which he had to assume when another Phil Miller (Boris Kodjoe) joined the survivors. So I asked Chris Miller why he’s still being called Tandy in the second season.

“It depends on who he’s with, I’ll say that,” Chris Miller said. “He is Phil Tandy Miller.”

Katey Sagal, Ed O’Neill and Christina Applegate Game for ‘Married With Children’ Spinoff

by Fred Topel

Married With Children reunion

With the return of classic television series like Full House and The X-Files in new limited-run series, David Faustino recently announced plans for a Married With Children spinoff to center on his character, Bud Bundy. Today, Faustino’s TV mom Katey Sagal was on a Television Critics Association panel for her new FX show The Bastard Executioner. After the panel she spoke to reporters and confirmed not only her commitment to Faustino’s show, but said both two other original co-stars are set to return, too.

“David approached me about and I said, ‘Anything, absolutely,’” Sagal said. “I think all three of us, Ed, Christina and myself all told David yes. It’s not really a reboot. It’s a continuation I think of Bud Bundy’s story.”

Married… with Children made Fox into a legitimate fourth network back in the late ’80s. It was a politically incorrect sitcom which generated anti-saccharine family comedy in

Al Bundy (O’Neill) hated his wife (Sagal) and kids (Applegate and Faustino), the anti-saccharine family comedy.

The show earned Fox publicity thanks to controversy and protests. It ran for 11 years on Fox, but was unceremoniously cancelled without so much as a series finale. Sagal said she generally prefers original material, but the open ending of Married with Children makes a reboot more appealing.

“I’m always for an original idea,” Sagal said. “I suppose there’s a certain value in rebooting some of that but I’m not quite sure what it is. If you actually have a story to tell about those people… The only reason a Married with Children reboot might make sense to me is it never really ended. So it might be nice to see it end. So I don’t know. I’m not sure how I feel about that. There’s so many original ideas.”

Sagal will wait to see Faustino’s idea for the new show. Asked to speculate on the Bundys’ current whereabouts, she joked, “Where do I see them? Oh, I don’t know. They’re in a trailer somewhere.”

As Peggy Bundy, Sagal had an iconic wardrobe with leopard spandex pants and big red hair. She expects Peggy’s look will not have changed in the 18 years since we last saw her. “Absolutely not,” Sagal said. “She would probably have to wear that hair.”

The Bastard Executioner premieres Tuesday, September 10 at 10PM on FX. Stay tuned for news on the production and release of Married With Children.

Video: Get a Much Closer Look at the Lexus Hoverboard in Action

by Ethan Anderton

Lexus Hoverboard

Back in June, fans were cautiously optimistic about Lexus introducing a new device called Slide, which they purported to be a working hoverboard, just in time to meet the deadline set in place by Back to the Future Part II. At the time we didn’t know how legitimate this project was, but now we have a much closer look at the very real hoverboard, and it’s pretty slick.

Lexus has just unveiled a batch of videos showing the hoverboard in action, and there’s even an entire hoverpark that it can be used in where professional skateboarders have got pretty good at riding it.

See more of the Lexus hoverboard after the jump!

Here’s the new videos from Lexus explaining how they even came to consider creating their own hoverboard and how the idea evolved throughout the process, including testing their prototypes, as well as a glimpse at the hoverpark where this board is best utilized:

In addition, Jalopnik sent American race car driver Robb Holland to test out the Slide in Barcelona, and he learned just how difficult it is to ride. So get a glimpse at how your average person is able to ride a hoverboard for the first time, as opposed to some professional skates who have been messing around with it for awhile:

It’s pretty awesome to see this board in action and really getting some rough playtime. Some of the shots of this board being ridden around are so sleek that it still almost looks fake.

The question is are we looking at the future of skateboarding here? Obviously there will always be regular skateboards, but could this be the start of a new era for the recreational and professional sport? I wouldn’t count on seeing hoverboards in your local store anytime soon. This is a Lexus hoverboard after all, and they’re not exactly known for providing affordable products. But this is a good start for a product that was once just considered science fiction.

The biggest hurdle that this particular hoverboard has to overcome is that the surface on which the board operates is specially manufactured to work with the super-cooled magnets inside the board. So you’d only be able to ride a hoverboard like this in designated areas, like the hoverpark that Lexus created. But again, this is just so cool that we’re not even worried about the shortcomings right now.

How badly do you want to try out the Lexus hoverboard?

‘Crash Test’ Trailer: Paul Scheer & Rob Huebel’s Comedy Special Recorded on a Moving Bus

by Ethan Anderton

Crash Test trailer

Comedians Paul Scheer and Rob Huebel have collaborated with each other countless times, at various venues, in several different mediums. Maybe you’ve seen them on their MTV sketch show Human Giant, in any of the dozen movies and TV shows they’ve appeared in or at the UCB Theatre doing their show Crash Test. If you’ve seen the latter, then you’re going to love this news.

Paramount Digital Entertainment is bringing a new Crash Test comedy special to Vimeo on Demand, and it’s not just a recorded version of one of the shows at the UCB Theatre. Instead, this comedy special was recorded on a moving bus and at various tops that the Crash Test vehicle made in Los Angeles, and there’s a ton of awesome special guests.

Watch the Crash Test trailer after the jump!

Here’s the trailer (via Splitsider):

This looks absolutely awesome. From appearances by Aubrey Plaza, Aziz Ansari, Jack McBrayer, Natasha Leggero and Rob Corddry to Thomas Lennon and Ben Garant reprising their characters from Reno 911!, this promises to be an epic comedy special, chronicling a truly unique night of comedy as only the City of Angels can deliver.

As someone who has attended dozens of shows at the UCB Theatre where anything can happen (you should go if you’re in Los Angeles or New York), I can only imagine how crazy it must have been to be an audience member on the Crash Test bus for this special, trekking around Los Angeles and just waiting for whatever Huebel, Scheer and all their comedy friends had to throw at you.

It’s just a shame this isn’t a ride that gets repeated every month so that I could make it on that bus for a show. But maybe Huebel and Scheer will take the Crash Test bus to Chicago or New York City for another comedy special down the road. When your comedy show can be put on the road, anything is possible, right?

Paramount Digital Entertainment and Ben Stiller’s Red Hour have been behind some great comedy content online lately, including The Hotwives of Orlando and Burning Love, both hilarious parodies of terrible reality shows that you hate to love and love to hate.

Crash Test will be available for $3.99 exclusively on Vimeo on Demand on Tuesday, August 18th.

Watch the Red Band Trailer for ‘Drunk Stoned Brilliant Dead: The Story of National Lampoon’

by Ethan Anderton

National Lampoon documentary trailer

This past week, the reboot of Vacation hit the big screen, but it’s not a National Lampoon production anymore. The once thriving name in laughs has since become mostly a comedy memory, known for introducing us to bold and controversial material, future film and television stars, and a film franchise that took us into one of the craziest fraternities and also on one of the best road trips in the history of cinema.

Now a new documentary called Drunk Stoned Brilliant Dead: The Story of National Lampoon is on the way to theaters and VOD after a premiere at the 2015 Sundance Film Festival earlier this year, and the first red band trailer is now online. Watch the National Lampoon documentary trailer after the jump!

As someone who is fascinated and obsessed with the comedy world, from feature films to improv to stand-up, this was exactly the kind of documentary I was hoping for.

It dives deep behind the scenes of National Lampoon with all the key players, from Chevy Chase to P.J. O’Rourke to Kevin Bacon (yes, he had a role in Animal House), not to mention influenced comedic talents like Judd Apatow, with proper recognition paid to some who aren’t anymore, like Saturday Night Live and Animal House star John Belushi.

Germain Lussier called the movie “a must-watch for anyone interested in the history of pop culture” when he caught it back in January. Meanwhile, my own review also said it was “a must-see for comedy nuts, but just as enjoyable for audiences who like to laugh and are interested to know more about some of the most iconic comedy stars to ever work in show business.”

The documentary is a time capsule to a period of time in comedy that was so bold and irreverent that we may never see the likes of it ever again in these hyper-sensitive, overly politically correct times, and it’s a fascinating profile straight from the mouths of those who were there when it happened.

Drunk Stoned Brilliant Dead

From the 1970s thru the 1990s, there was no hipper, no more outrageous comedy in print than The National Lampoon, the groundbreaking humor magazine that pushed the limits of taste and acceptability – and then pushed them even harder. Parodying everything from politics, religion, entertainment and the whole of American lifestyle, the Lampoon eventually went on to branch into successful radio shows, record albums, live stage revues and movies, including Animal House and National Lampoon’s Vacation. The publication launched the careers of legends like John Belushi, Bill Murray, Chevy Chase, Christopher Guest and Gilda Radner, who went on to gigs at Saturday Night Live and stardom.

Director Douglas Tirola’s documentary about the Lampoon, DRUNK STONED BRILLIANT DEAD: THE STORY OF THE NATIONAL LAMPOON, cleverly chronicles its founding by two former Harvard students, its growth, demise and everything in between. Told thru fresh, candid interviews with its key staff, and illustrated with hundreds of outrageous images from the mag itself (along with never-seen interview footage from the magazine’s prime), the film gives fans of the Lampoon a unique inside look at what made the magazine tick, who were its key players, and why it was so outrageously successful: a magazine that dared to think what no one was thinking, but wished they had.

Drunk Stoned Brilliant Dead hits theaters and VOD on September 25th.

‘Sneaky Pete’ Trailer: Giovanni Ribisi Is a Con Man in Bryan Cranston-Produced Amazon Show

by Russ Fischer

Sneaky Pete trailer

We’ve all seen stories where a con man pretends to be someone he’s not, using deceit and some insider knowledge to attain something that isn’t his. Sneaky Pete is a new Amazon series starring Giovanni Ribisi as a con man who assumes the identity of his former cellmate, and uses what he knows about that guy’s life to worm his way into a new family and job. That job is kinda weird, too, as the old cellmate’s family runs a bail bonds operation.

Bryan Cranston exec produces (with David Shore) and guest stars, and the terrific Margo Martindale has a major role as the matriarch of con man’s new “family.” You can find the Sneaky Pete trailer below.

You may remember that this series is one that CBS was considering picking up, but ultimately turned down in May of this year. Amazon started making a deal for the show in June, after backers at Sony TV took the show around to other companies, and now here we are.

This trailer works pretty well, too, so I’m curious to know what CBS saw — or rather didn’t see — in the series as a whole. Sure, the scenario is familiar, right down to the turn implied by this trailer, but that doesn’t mean there’s nowhere for the series to go. In fact, with this cast there’s plenty of room to grow.

Sneaky Pete premieres on August 7 on Amazon.

From Executive Producers David Shore and Bryan Cranston, Sneaky Pete revolves around a con-man (Giovanni Ribisi) who, after leaving prison, takes cover from his past by assuming the identity of his cellmate, Pete. He moves in with Pete’s unsuspecting family and is roped into the family’s bail bond business. In order to keep the charade up, he plays the part of a skip tracer, taking down criminals worse than himself—and discovering a family life he’s never had.

Also he says "fuck" in it, which means you won't see it on network TV, anyway. The full trailer drops tomorrw, probably evening time since it's set to officially debut on Conan. The 16 Best Scenes in National Lampoon’s Vacation Franchise

by Ethan Anderton
Corey

So good.

National Lampoon's Vacation best scenes

This week, a reboot of National Lampoon’s Vacation hit theaters, but without the National Lampoon name attached. Of course, the comedy namesake’s former magazine editor P.J. O’Rourke seems perfectly fine with that, saying in a guest column at THR that the new take on Vacation is “a summer cineplex dump-fill featuring the Hangover wimp dentist as leading man” and judging by the trailer contains “obvious, pitiful, frenetic, stupid raunchiness.” Yeah, he’s not a fan.

Frankly, I found the Vacation reboot to be amusing and enjoyable. It has a bit of a sloppy script as far as story progression is concerned, but there are some very big laughs, a few great running gags, solid references to the original movie, and a fantastic performance from Ed Helms, who channels Chevy Chase and his charming naivete the whole way through.

But I’d be lying if I said that I didn’t find looking back at the original Vacation, and at least one of the sequels, more entertaining. And that’s exactly what I did when I compiled this collection of the 16 Best Scenes from the National Lampoon’s Vacation franchise.

See the whole list of National Lampoon’s Vacation best scenes after the jump!

My Sandwich Is All Wet

If we’re honest, it’s the entire running gag with Christie Brinkley (before she was Jerry/Garry/Larry/Terry’s wife on Parks & Recreation) in her big screen debut that’s one of the most iconic parts of the original Vacation, but for me it’s the picnic bit that’s the best one. Chevy Chase desperately trying to dance in a cool way with a bologna sandwich is just one of many examples of how he was a master of physical comedy, and the split second when he realizes it’s soaked in dog piss is comedy gold.

What Did I Say, Nipple?

It’s no highway encounter with Christie Brinkley, but this awkward interaction that Clark Griswold has with a lingerie associate named Mary (no shit?) is a classic. It’s scenes like this that show how charming a younger Chevy Chase could be, even when he was casually being adulterous and hitting on store clerks much young than himself.

Mighty Mississippi / Roll’em Up

This scene has been criticized for its portrayal of race, and 22 years later, is outdated at the very least. Clark’s optimism and cluelessness is at first the butt of the joke, as he doesn’t realize how out of place he is. While the scene maybe isn’t meant to be a universal representation of urban areas like this, it still ends up feeding middle-class fears of the inner-city by showing how wrong Clark’s approach can be.

Thankfully, the scene is still funny, and a line from Rusty (“wonder if these guys know the Commodores”) makes the dated nature of this scene easier to swallow, even showing that he might have inherited some of his father’s naivete.

Shitter’s Full

Honey, have you checked out shitters? This line has become so iconic that it’s made it onto t-shirts that fans throw on around the holidays when Christmas Vacation plays a dozen times a week across various channels. In fact, it’s probably one of the most iconic lines in the entire franchise, and Clark’s reaction to it just makes the scene that much better.

Elite Taco Bell Will Get a Liquor License and a Bouncer

by John Farrier

(Image: Taco Bell)

The 1993 movie Demolition Man teaches us that by 2032, Taco Bell will be the only restaurant chain left in the country. All restaurants will be Taco Bells, even the most luxurious dining establishments.

(Video Link)

22 years into that vision of the future, Taco Bell is already making progress. A new location in the wealthy Wicker Park neighborhood of Chicago will offer liquor and local craft beers. And to make sure that only the proper sort of clientele gets in and stays in, the restaurant will have its own bouncer. Presumably the restroom will be equipped with 3 seashells.

We've heard rumblings in the past of a possible spinoff to the hit '80s and '90s sitcom Married With Children---because that's one of the popular TV trends right now---revolving around Bud Bundy (played by David Faustino on the original show) and his current life.

While attending the premiere of co-star Christina Applegate's (who played Kelly Bundy) new movie, the Vacation reboot/sequel, Faustino confirmed the possibility of a Married With Children spinoff.

Herman Harband’s Headstone

by Miss Cellania

Herman Harband commissioned his own headstone ahead of time to be placed on his grave when he died. It was ready for him at Beth David Memorial Gardens in Hollywood, Florida. The inscription reads:

My wife Eleanor Arthur of Queens, NY lived like a princess for 20 years traveling the world with the best of everything. When I went blind, she tried to poison me, took all my money, all my medication and left me in the dark alone and sick. It's a miracle I escaped. I won't see her in heaven because she's surely going to hell!

However, Harband remarried. When he died in 2011, his second wife Domnita had him buried in a couple’s plot in Raleigh, North Carolina, with a different stone. See his actual grave. According to Find a Grave:

Herman Harband was not buried at Beth David Memorial Gardens, but he did own a headstone at the cemetery, thus making it a cenotaph, not a grave. The internet-famous headstone is real (confirmed by records and the cemetery director), but it was removed in early 2014 and the plot was sold back to the cemetery at the request of his wife. According to the cemetery directory, the headstone (as of this writing) is in storage at the cemetery.

Comic book covers are drawn to invoke a feeling from the reader, convincing them to buy the book with a promise of over-the-top superheroic action or out-of-this-world artwork.

The more action packed the series the more likely it is to have a splashy, action packed cover, giving the reader a taste of what’s to come when they peel back the cover and dive in.
