One-in-a-Million Paper Airplane Flight

by Miss Cellania

He launched a paper airplane out of an upper-story window and watched it fly, and fly, and fly. That in itself is quite satisfying, but the end is the real kicker. What are the odds? The first video response to the Tweet is a more typical flight in which the airplane flies directly to the nearest roof and crashes. But you have to expect that with paper airplanes. If this video doesn’t work for you, here’s a .gif version. -via reddit

How Does the Cue Ball Always Come Out of the Pool Table?

by Casey Chan on Sploid, shared by Adam Clark Estes to io9
How Does the Cue Ball Always Come Out of the Pool Table?

It’s magnets! Seriously. There’s a layer of iron underneath the cue ball that gets nudged and pulled by a strong magnet inside the pool table so that it gets put on a completely different track from the rest of the balls in pool. That track is the one that spits out the cue ball. The other balls in pool don’t have metal inside so they don’t react to the magnet at all and just get sent down to their regular station through the regular track.

‘Popstar: Never Stop Never Stopping’ Trailer: Lonely Island Goes From Digital Shorts To Films

by eelyajekiM

Popstar: Never Stop Never Stopping

Universal Pictures has released the first trailer for the hilarious comedy Popstar: Never Stop Never Stopping, starring Andy Samberg as a singer-rapper named Conner4Real. Directed by Samberg's fellow Lonely Island teammates, Akiva Schaffer and Jorma Taccone, the film will take audiences behind the scenes of what it is like to live the life of famous rapper Conner4Real, and watch him become humble after his latest album becomes the victim of a flop.

Since this is a red-band trailer, I caution you to hold off on watching it if you are in an office because there is some NSFW material that can be seen and heard in it. But if the coast is clear, then put on those earbuds and check out the trailer below. [...]

‘Popstar: Never Stop Never Stopping’ Green-Band Trailer: It Takes a Village

by Angie Han

Popstar Never Stop Never Stopping green-band trailer

Andy Samberg‘s big-screen career has been, frankly, hit or miss, but the first red-band trailer for Popstar: Never Stop Never Stopping suggested this one would land firmly in the “win” column. The film sees Samberg and his Lonely Island buddies doing what they do best: sending up pop music in all its ridiculous glory. Directed by Jorma Taccone and Akiva Schaffer and written by all three, Popstar centers on a singer/rapper called Conner4real who faces a long downhill slide when his sophomore album flops.

The new green-band trailer is worth watching even if you’re adult enough to have already seen the red-band one, as it’s packed with a ton of new gags and cameos. Check out the Popstar: Never Stop Never Stopping trailer after the jump.

Popstar: Never Stop Never Stopping looks plenty funny, delighting in music-biz stereotypes and packing in comedy all-stars and celebrity cameos a la Zoolander. (I think my favorite supporting character might be Taccone as the Ryan Lewis to Samberg’s Macklemore.) But it’s worth pointing out how spot-on it sounds, too. The Lonely Island has perfected the art of writing parody tunes that could be mistaken for the real thing, so long as you don’t think too hard about lyrics like “in a way, being gracious is my weakness / people say I’m so unpretentious for a genius.” Although really, even a line like that wouldn’t be out of the realm of possibility for, say, a Kanye album.

Popstar: Never Stop Never Stopping opens June 3.

Universal Pictures’ Popstar: Never Stop Never Stopping is headlined by musical digital-shorts superstars Andy Samberg, Akiva Schaffer and Jorma Taccone, collectively known as The Lonely Island. The comedy goes behind the scenes as singer/rapper Conner4Real (Samberg) faces a crisis of popularity after his sophomore album flops, leaving his fans, sycophants and rivals all wondering what to do when he’s no longer the dopest star of all.

The latest comedy from blockbuster producer Judd Apatow (Trainwreck, Superbad, Knocked Up) co-stars Sarah Silverman, Tim Meadows and Maya Rudolph and many of the biggest names in comedy and music in cameo performances. Co-directed by Schaffer and Taccone and written by The Lonely Island trio, Popstar is also produced by Rodney Rothman (producer of Get Him to the Greek, Forgetting Sarah Marshall; co-writer of 22 Jump Street), as well as Samberg, Schaffer and Taccone.

‘Sausage Party’ Trailer: Seth Rogen’s R-Rated Animated Movie About Hot Dogs

by Angie Han
Corey

Yes!

sausage party sxsw

SXSW tends to be a hectic time for anyone in the general vicinity of Austin, Texas, but Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg may be even busier than most this year. Not only are they premiering their new series Preacher, which hits AMC this spring, they’re also unveiling the first look at their animated film Sausage Party, in the form of a work-in-progress screening.

Described by Rogen as an “R-rated Pixar-style movie,” Sausage Party follows a bunch of food items at a grocery store who wonder about the “Great Beyond” — i.e., what happens after they get purchased. Rogen, who co-wrote the script with Goldberg, Kyle Hunter, and Ariel Shaffir, voices a hot dog named Frank who falls out of a shopping cart and embarks on an eventful journey to make it back to his shelf before the Fourth of July sale. Greg Tiernan and Conrad Vernon directed. Watch the first Sausage Party trailer after the jump.

Sony unveiled the first Sausage Party trailer timed with its work-in-progress screening at SXSW.

Our own Jacob Hall was in attendance for the SXSW screening, and here is what he tweeted after seeing the film:

That Sausage Party is raunchy and filthy shouldn’t come as a huge surprise. Among other things, Rogen has promised a “food orgy,” teasing that it’s “one of the most filthy things I’ve ever seen in my life.” But Sausage Party also has a religious bent to it. “Its subject matter inherently has to do with religion, so conceptually it’s somewhat R-rated,” said Rogen in 2014.

Indeed, one of the songs by Alan Menken begins with a call to the gods. In the same way that Rogen and Goldberg’s This Is the End took a fairly familiar concept (the apocalypse) and took it in weird, unexpected directions, Sausage Party seems to be something much more than just an extended dick joke.

Sausage Party arrives August 12. Here’s how Columbia Pictures describes the movie:

“Sausage Party” is an ‘R’ rated theatrical animated movie about one sausage’s quest to discover the truth about his existence. After falling out of a shopping cart, our hero sausage and his new friends embark on a perilous journey through the supermarket to get back to their aisles before the 4th of July sale.

‘Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children’ Trailer: Tim Burton Returns With More Lovable Oddballs

by Angie Han

Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children trailer

Tim Burton’s Wonderland is in the hands of James Bobin now, but that’s okay because he’s been busy constructing a different fantasy getaway. Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children reunites him with Eva Green, the best part of his otherwise disappointing Dark Shadows, while Asa Butterfield (who already looks like a Tim Burton character come to life) plays the young hero in this adaptation of Ransom Riggs‘ hit novel.

The story concerns a seemingly ordinary young man named Jake who discovers a secret hideout run by the titular Miss Peregrine. She watches over a group of children with unusual abilities — think of them as sort of an old-timey X-Men, minus the compulsion to keep saving the world. But a dark force is lying in wait, and Jake is tasked with defending Miss Peregrine’s children. Watch the first Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children after the jump.

Burton’s past few years have been uneven, to say the least. Alice in Wonderland made tons of money, even if critics were somewhat divided on it, but Frankenweenie and Big Eyes (the latter of which was a biopic that took him outside his usual wheelhouse) got mixed reviews and did middling box office. And Dark Shadows was a disappointment on both fronts. Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiars, fortunately, looks like it puts Burton right back where he’s most comfortable: constructing intricately detailed fantasy-lands for lovable oddballs.

Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children opens September 30, 2016.

From visionary director Tim Burton, and based upon the best-selling novel, comes an unforgettable motion picture experience. When Jake discovers clues to a mystery that spans alternate realities and times, he uncovers a secret refuge known as Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children. As he learns about the residents and their unusual abilities, Jake realizes that safety is an illusion, and danger lurks in the form of powerful, hidden enemies. Jake must figure out who is real, who can be trusted, and who he really is.

‘Indiana Jones 5’ Set for Summer 2019; Harrison Ford and Steven Spielberg Returning

by Angie Han

Indiana Jones 5 development

Harrison Ford will crack that whip again. Disney officially announced today that Indiana Jones 5 is coming in summer 2019, with Ford back as the world’s coolest archaeologist and Steven Spielberg, who helmed all four previous installments of the franchise, returning to direct.

Indiana Jones 5 has officially been set for July 19, 2019. It’s currently the only film slotted for that date. The Marvel adventure The Inhumans scheduled for the weekend before (July 12), but it seems likely Inhumans will move away from Indiana Jones 5 before we get there, especially since both are being released by Disney — there’d be no point in the studio cannibalizing its own box office.

Kathleen Kennedy and Frank Marshall are producing Indiana Jones 5. Interestingly, the press release makes no mention of creator George Lucas — so if he’s involved at all, it’s likely in a reduced capacity. It doesn’t sound like Lucas has creative control over the new Indiana Jones, which is probably for the best if for no other reason than that it’ll allow the new team to have creative control. No other writers or stars have been announced at this time.

Speculation about a fifth Indiana Jones movie has been swirling ever since Disney acquired Lucasfilm in 2012, and Disney has continually insisted that it does plan to return to the Indiana Jones series eventually. But understandably, resurrecting Star Wars seemed to be the studio’s first priority. Now that The Force Awakens has successfully charted a new course for that series, it looks like the studio is finally ready to turn its attention to everyone’s other favorite Lucasfilm franchise.

Ford will be 77 by the time Indiana Jones 5 opens in 2019, and as charismatic and badass as he still is today, it seems a reasonable bet that Indiana Jones 5 will see him hand the franchise off to a younger star. Marshall has said they wouldn’t be taking the “James Bond” approach of simply casting a new actor as Indiana Jones, and Ford’s return confirms that — but the question remains as to how, exactly, the series could continue with a new lead. Will we go back to Indy’s younger days? Will Indy pass the torch to a younger relative or colleague? Does this mean Crystal Skull‘s Shia LaBeouf will be back as Mutt? (On that last one, probably not.)

Share your Indy-related theories and feelings in the comments, and while you mull over this news you can read the full Indiana Jones 5 press release below.

SPIELBERG AND FORD REUNITE AS INDIANA JONES RETURNS TO THEATERS JULY 19, 2019

Indiana Jones will return to the big screen on July 19, 2019, for a fifth epic adventure in the blockbuster series. Steven Spielberg, who directed all four previous films, will helm the as-yet-untitled project with star Harrison Ford reprising his iconic role. Franchise veterans Kathleen Kennedy and Frank Marshall will produce.

“Indiana Jones is one of the greatest heroes in cinematic history, and we can’t wait to bring him back to the screen in 2019,” said Alan Horn, Chairman, The Walt Disney Studios. “It’s rare to have such a perfect combination of director, producers, actor and role, and we couldn’t be more excited to embark on this adventure with Harrison and Steven.”

Famed archaeologist and explorer Indiana Jones was introduced in 1981’s Raiders of the Lost Ark – one of AFI’s 100 Greatest American Films of All Time – and later thrilled audiences in 1984’s Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom, 1989’s Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade, and 2008’s Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull. The four films have brought in nearly $2 billion at the global box office.

DRO_page_03

That seems to be what the new comic Kickstarter from Grainne McEntee and Matt Rooke seems to be asking.

On Kickstarter now to raise funds for the first in the series of Bubbles O’Seven: Simian Agent, it’s probably best to allow the creators to describe the series for themselves.

DRO_page_04
Introducing Bubbles O’Seven, simian star of this first 16-page mini-comic in an explosive new series.
His mission, to track down and neutralise the rogue threat of shadowy organisation, SpIWIT, is his greatest challenge to date. But is that mission as clear cut as it seems?

Dr O is the first antagonist in our series, born out of a botched experiment by the SIS in an effort to weaponise animals, the project known as Species Intelligence Weapon Integrated Technology (SpIWIT). Bubbles O’Seven was the closest the project came to being a success and he is now tasked with bringing home – or eliminating – the rogue subjects of said project, amongst which Dr. O is one of many.

Dr O is a disgruntled Orangutan who has been “castrated” by the removal of his cheekpads, leading to a squeaky Ook voice and a penchant for overcompensating by exercising his intelligence in other more evil areas.

But while Bubbles is in the employ of the very organisation that created him, we are left wondering, where do his loyalties truly lie?
I’d never really wondered what a simian secret agent would be like, but I have to admit I am keen to see now.
You can help bring Bubbles O’Seven into the world at their Kickstarter here!

Video: Watch Matt Serra's shocking upset of Georges St-Pierre at UFC 69

by MMAjunkie Staff
Corey

Still the best.

When Matt Serra met Georges St-Pierre in the main event of UFC 69, very few people expected the veteran to make it through two rounds, let alone walk away with the belt.

Instead, Serra (11-7 MMA, 7-7 UFC), who earned his title shot by winning the welterweight bracket of “The Ultimate Fighter” Season 4, clipped St-Pierre (25-2 MMA, 19-2 UFC) with a wild punch and put him on rubber legs. The follow-up assault from Serra brought the bout to an end at the 3:25 mark of Round 1.

Serra walked away with the belt in the shocking upset and handed St-Pierre his only loss in 19 fights from 2005 to his retirement in 2013.

St-Pierre won the title back from Serra one year later at UFC 83, but the fight served to cement Serra’s place in MMA histry.

Check out the full fight video above.

‘Into The Badlands’ Season 2 Officially Ordered By AMC

by The Movie God

AMC's Into the Badlands

Fans of one of the newest original series from The Walking Dead and Breaking Bad network AMC, Into the Badlands, have been anxiously awaiting word on whether or not there will be a second season to look forward to.

These days we often see new seasons ordered after the numbers are seen for the first episode or two---and sometimes even before a single episode has even aired---but not for Into the Badlands, despite it scoring the third-highest U.S. cable TV numbers of all time for a first season, helped along by its airing after episodes of the aforementioned Walking Dead. But thankfully AMC has decided, after this lengthy consideration period since the first season finale, that they will in fact be giving the show a season two. [...]
