Seattle’s Mystery Coke Machine

by Miss Cellania

Seattle has its share of mysteries, but one that everyone seems to enjoy is the Coke machine at the corner of John Street and 11th Avenue East. This vending machine is far from new; in fact it looks like a soda machine from the 1970s. And the price is anachronistic, too, just 55 cents a can, while most other machines charge a dollar. No one knows who installed the machine, or who stocks it. However, the locksmith shop it stands in front of may have something to do with it, but they aren't saying anything.

The modern antique offers a comparatively limited selection of drinks with yellowed plastic buttons offering Coke, Mountain Dew, Pepsi, and Barq's, but the intriguing button marked "Mystery" generally produces none of these. According to one report, after spending five dollars in change on the mystery button, the machine produced six different brand of soda, none of which had their own button on the machine.

The “mystery” button often serves obscure and even rare soda flavors. The popularity of the Coke machine is such that it has its own Facebook fan page. -via Uncle John’s Bathroom Reader

Kevin Bacon’s ‘Footloose’ Entrance On ‘The Tonight Show’ (Video)

by Empress Eve

Kevin Bacon Footloose Entrance On The Tonight Show

This year marks the 30th anniversary of the film Footloose, which starred Kevin Bacon as a dancing Chicago teen who moves to a small religious town where dancing and rock music have been banned.

Bacon made an appearance last night on The Tonight Show starring Jimmy Fallon, which had just outlawed dancing on the show. But, the actor, upon hearing the news, would have none of that! He then proceeded to reenact his dance moves from Footloose, including the confetti-filled prom dance!

Check out the video here below, along with Fallon's post-dance interview with Bacon [...]

‘Dumb and Dumber To’ Tosses Out Some Promo Posters That Take Us Back To 1994

by Penn Collins

In case you hadn’t caught word, Jim Carrey and Jeff Daniels are getting back in the saddle for a Dumb and Dumber sequel titled, predictably enough, Dumb and Dumber To. Since word of this hasn’t reached Anchorman 2 levels of hype yet, the production has tweeted out some pics that are pretty evocative of the first one. Take a look:

Video: Billy Dee Williams’ Star Wars Routine From Dancing With The Stars

by Brendon Connelly

Last night, there was a full-on Star Wars themed dance on Dancing With The Stars. The choice of music was pretty obvious and if you can’t guess what Billy Dee William’s dancing partner will be wearing then I suppose you’re still waiting for your first coffee of the day.

Click here to view the embedded video.

Good to see he’s keeping fit. He’ll need that for his Episode VII action scenes. Maybe.

New Trailer For The Raid 2 – Mud, Punches And A Whole Lotta Bone Crunching

by Brendon Connelly
Corey

Everyone needs to see the first one.

Here’s a trailer for the second Raid movie that was cut especially for the internet. That means you.

Click here to view the embedded video.

Gareth Evans is a very skilled director of action. He knows how to conceive it, how to stage it, how to shoot and how to cut it. For that alone this film will be essential, but I understand there’s some real tension here outside of just watching people smack one another around.

And I don’t mean that in any way as a criticism of the cinema of people smacking one another around. It’s produced some of my favourite films.

And now another? I guess I’ll find out soon enough.

‘Get On Up’ Trailer Brings Plenty of Funk, Maybe Some Tears to James Brown’s Life Story

by Samantha Wilson
Corey

Dool.

Get On Up TrailerAwwww yeah, things are about to get a little more funky up in here, everybody. The trailer for the long-gestating James Brown biopic, Get On Up (Can we be honest with each other, here? Maybe there could have been a better title besides reaching for a familiar song title), has landed and it’s exceedingly catchy. The story of the Godfather of Soul is apparently a comprehensive look at the legendary singer’s formative years up until the height of his success, and it’s not skimping out on any of the music that made the man so famous. The film, directed by The Help‘s Tate Taylor, stars Chadwick Boseman (42) as the titular soul man as he maneuvers through a rough childhood, time spent in jail and through all that fame business. Being a superstar is kind of a big part of this story, if you didn’t gather that on your own. The trailer touches on a part of the singer’s life that you might not have heard about: his volatile relationship with his mother (Viola Davis), who abandoned him at age six to leave him to be raised in a brothel with his aunt, played by Octavia Spencer. While the trailer promises that “what you’ve heard is only the beginning,” most of what’s featured is what’s going to get the audiences in their seats, namely the music and movement that gave the man his success. There’s plenty of famous faces in the mix — Dan Aykroyd, is that you? – who cross […]

Will Forte Says He’s Written The First Act Of MacGruber 2‏

by Brendon Connelly
Corey

Yeeeeeeeeeees.

MacGruber is proving to be a bonafide cult hit in the way most modern comedy films can’t boast. Personally, I found it rather hit and miss and I can’t say I’m in a hurry to see it again, but the prospect of that same team reuniting and trying once more to elicit a laugh isn’t really too upsetting, either.

In order to promote Nebraska, which is now coming out on Blu-ray and is rather more hit than miss, Will Forte gave an interview to Collider. They asked, inevitably, about the status of MacGruber 2. Here’s what Forte told them:

Jorma [Taccone] and I just got together—well, John Solomon, who’s our third partner, is working at SNL right now—so Jorma and I got together to try and start figuring it out. We have a really solid first act so far, so we have to get together again and keep going through.

Well, that dedication to the thing is certainly encouraging. They sure as hell aren’t going to get the film made without it.

The small question of financing… that will come later. But it happened for Anchorman 2 and that film, as far as I can see, has proven to be quite a moneyspinner. I don’t think MacGruber 2 is too much of a long shot. Here’s hoping it delivers on the promise implicit in the first one.
