Great Job, Internet!: Woo-hoo! Now there’s a supercut of vocal hooks from ‘90s alt rock hits

by Marah Eakin

As fans of ‘90s rock—Alice In Chains’ Jar Of Flies included—could well tell you, oftentimes a record or hit single is absolutely made by a good well-placed vocal hook. A solid “woo-hoo” or “ooh woo hoo ooh” can be as effective as a wordy chorus or stellar guitar riff—if not even more effective. That’s the case made by CBC Music, who put together a two-and-a-half minute supercut of vocal hooks from ‘90s alt-rock songs. The clip features “whoa-ohs” from Red Hot Chili Peppers, Weezer, The Rentals, The Breeders, The Cardigans, Pavement, and a whole bunch of other moaning and groaning acts. It’s not comprehensive by any means, but, if anything, that should just serve as an invitation for more sites and individuals to come up with “ooh ahh” mash-ups and supercuts. Or maybe quizzes, like the ones NPR Music’s been doing every Friday with ...

Great Job, Internet!: Here's a nine-minute loop of one part of Spin Doctors' "Two Princes"

by Marah Eakin

Because it’s Thursday and Thursday is when the world’s citizens collectively listen to Spin Doctors—Wednesday is when we wear pink—a YouTube user has uploaded a nine-minute loop of what they consider “the best part” of “Two Princes,” or the part of the song known to the layman as “the beginning.” The clip is dedicated to the maker’s “wonderful girlfriend,” who must be wonderful indeed if she was even in the same building as this video’s editor when this masterpiece was being created. May the 4th: ‘Star Wars’ Mos Eisley Cantina Videos

by Empress Eve

Star Wars Mos Eisley Cantina band auditions College Humor

For May The 4th -- Star Wars Day -- YouTube recently released videos for their “May the 4th be with YouTube” initiative. This year, YouTube Space LA and Lucasfilm gave four YouTube Channels the opportunity to shoot and produce an original video inspired by Star Wars on a Mos Eisley Cantina replica set. You can watch those videos that were created here below.

I probably don't need to tell you all this, but the Mos Eisley Cantina is seen in the first Star Wars (as I like to call it), now known as Star Wars: Episode IV: A New Hope (I do not call it this). When Ben "Obi-Wan" Kenobi, Luke Skywalker, and the droids C-3PO and R2-D2 go to Mos Eisley (located on Luke's home planet Tattooine), Kenobi says of the spaceport, "There's never been a more wretched hive of scum and villainy." The group goes to the Mos Eisley Cantina to look for a transport to the Alderaan system (although, the droids end up having to wait outside, since the bar doesn't "serve their kind") and that's where Luke first meets Millennium Falcon pilot Han Solo and his co-pilot, the wookiee Chewbecca. The Cantina is also the setting of the controversial showdown between Han Solo and the bounty hunter Greedo [...]

32 Car Name Meanings

by Miss Cellania

(YouTube link)

Toyota was named after the company founder, but Hyundai is not -it’s a word that had its own meaning. Car names from other languages need to be explained, but American cars have interesting stories behind them -even if it isn’t true, as in the case of the Camaro. John Green has plenty of such stories in the latest mental_floss video. -via mental_floss

Top 50 Best American Television Show Theme Songs

by Miss Cellania

Amanda Burton at Daily of the Day made a list of the Top 50 Best American Television Show Theme Songs, which does not include the Star Trek theme, because she limited the list to songs that have lyrics (yeah, the Star Trek theme had lyrics, but they weren’t used on TV). Whether you agree or disagree with the rankings, you’ll love the fact that almost all of the songs have either a video or a link to a video. You can relive your favorites and check out the ones you aren’t familiar with. Not too many people will disagree with #1.

Behind The Scenes Movie Photos You Can't Unsee

by Zeon Santos

Behind the scenes photos from classic movies are a fun way for fans to learn more about the production process involved in making their favorite flicks, but when those photos present a disillusioning side of the Hollywood machine those fans may want to tear down their posters and put up pictures of their favorite cartoon characters!

It may be a bit disappointing to find out that Marlon Brando didn't memorize his lines so he needed cue cards, or that the Stay-Puft Marshmallow Man was actually a miniature puppet and not a giant guy in a rubber suit (shocking, right?!) but that's why they call it movie magic!

Fantastic

  Poseidon Rex - Trailer
A small, secluded island off the coast of Belize suddenly finds itself terrorized by a deadly predator from the planet’s distant past, when deep-sea divers accidentally awaken an ancient evil. Jackson Slate and his team of underwater cave explorers unearth much more than long-lost Mayan treasure while plumbing the depths of a world famous blue hole. They disturb a creature that’s been hibernating for over 60,000 years—a rampaging behemoth of death and destruction not only at sea but also on land.

Norm Macdonald Would Like To Host ‘The Late Late Show’

by Wookie Johnson
Corey

No way this happens, but I support all things Norm.

With Craig Ferguson also leaving his post at CBS, we’ve been left to wonder who will replace him as host of The Late Late Show and will he take his robot skeleton puppet with him? While CBS continues to affirm that they have not decided who they will hire to host, a new name has been tossed into the hat. A name that would be really great at making late night weird again. A name that starred in Vampire Dog. From Splitsider:

What happened is a Norm Macdonald fan started the Twitter hashtag #latelatenormnorm yesterday, and ever since, Macdonald has been retweeting every single tweet with the hashtag in a pretty blatant attempt to express interest in the job and build momentum, or maybe he’s just goofing around.

Responding to a fan on Twitter, Macdonald says he has “no idea” if him getting the job is a possibility, explaining, “I haven’t been approached by CBS. I assumed they already have someone. I know Les Moonves, really cool guy.”

For Norm’s sake, let’s hope that Moonves is not friends with OJ.

‘Gotham’ Trailer: James Gordon Meets a Very Young Bruce Wayne [Updated]

by Russ Fischer

Gotham teaser trailer

You’ll be able to see the first teaser trailer for Fox’s Batman prequel show Gotham in HD tonight during the premiere of 24: Live Another Day. (Or have just seen it, depending on your time zone.) But for now, you can see the Gotham teaser trailer below. It introduces Ben McKenzie as a young James Gordon — and introduces Gordon to a much younger Bruce Wayne, on the night his parents are killed. There are also flashes of some of villains such as Riddler, the Penguin, Catwoman, and Poison Ivy, as well as what appears to be a brief shot of Jada Pinkett Smith as the new character Fish Mooney.

Watch the teaser below. (Update: Fox has released an extended version of the trailer that runs a full two minutes. We’ve got that below, too. It’s the second embed in line.)

So this series starts off with Gordon investigating the deaths of Bruce Wayne’s parents. It’s the obvious way to bring them together, of course, and therefore a logical, if very well-worn starting point for the show. What comes next will be more interesting as we see what series creator Bruno Heller has cooked up to keep our eye on a Gotham City with no Batman.

Here’s the original trailer:

Here’s the extended trailer:

We’ll have Gotham premiere info when it becomes available. EW has the teaser.
