Kanye West T-Shirt Is Plain White, Costs $120 And Has Already Sold Out

by James Johnson

Kanye West Plain White T-Shirt

Ladies and gentlemen be prepared to be amazed, maybe even in awe. Rapper Kanye West has designed a t-shirt that may very well revolutionize the clothing industry. That’s right its the Kanye West t-shirt with a plain white design.

Yeezus posted the “new” design online and his masterful creation of nothingness quickly sold out. What’s most amazing is the t-shirts $120 price tag.

So what does one get for a plain white t-shirt designed by Kanye West? Here’s the description:

“Very loose T-shirt in Egyptian cotton. Short sleeves. Ribbing at neckline. Reinforced neckline and shoulders. ‘A.P.C. KANYE’ silkscreened inside neckline”.

To put the t-shirt into perspective, Kanye West just sold a $.50 t-shirt to a bunch of fashion crazed wannabes for a profit of about $120.

But how could anyone pass up the chance to own a plain white Kanye West t-shirt that has his name screen-printed on the inside of the neck.

Don’t worry if you missed your chance to buy the shirt, you can still pre-order his $265 blue jeans or a $250 short-sleeve hoodie.

You know when you walk into an art gallery and there is a plain white canvas with a very subtle off-white line running down the middle and the painting costs $100,000. That painting is Kanye West’s new plain white t-shirt.

With that being said, I have to applause Kanye West, he didn’t even have to come up with some BS reason for the plain white t-shirt. He could have taken the artist approach by claiming it was a statement on whitewashing or something else involving the color white. Instead Kanye just said “hey my name is on this and its made out of that rare material known as cotton.”

Here’s the sales page for the Kanye West hip hop t-shirt:

Kanye West Hip Hop T-Shirt

Could you possibly justify spending $120 on a plain white t-shirt that has your favorite celebrities name written on the neck?

Google Glass augmented reality demo birthed in open-source library OpenGlass

by Chris Burns

A developer by the name of Brandyn White has created for Google Glass an augmented reality user interface that will one day be integrated as easy as any other Glassware. This means that while some so-called augmented reality apps created for Glass are still working outside Google’s preferred Glass-friendly software environment, pushing forward with basic Android APKs, this solution aims for a real-deal Mirror API build. Mirror API is a software developer environment unveiled by Google earlier this year made for developers to easily create apps without Google’s supported bounds.

rectify

As with Android, Google will be supporting Glass software that falls within a set of specifications. At the moment, to stay within this set – to stay within Google’s Mirror API, that is – White has had to turn this app into a sort of photograph-then-display app as such. In the future it may be possible to display information in an augmented reality landscape in real-time.

At the moment you’ll find Glass taking a photo first, then having it analyzed (as you would if you did a sort of Google Image Search), then having it sent back to the user with data embedded so they can compare to the original vision. It’s hoped that in the future this will all be able to be done in near-real-time without the need for photographs and several-step processing.

guide

The guide image above shows White’s use of Picarus software for this process, too. This is an analysis system created by White and his colleague Andrew Miller who together create the group Dapper Vision, Inc. This system is made for large-scale visual analysis and both Computer Vision and Machine Learning web services. Picarus is used here to annotate the images fed back to the user once a photo is snapped.

The software included in this augmented reality precursor is included in what White and his colleagues have dubbed “OpenGlass”. This software library known as OpenGlass is, of course, open-source, and can be accessed by any intrepid developer or Glass user hoping to get in on this futuristic build early.

Tool reveal that new album is set for “early 2014″

by John

Tool up.

Earlier this year, drummer for art-metal supremos Tool Danny Carey rather abruptly revealed that the band would be releasing a new album some time in 2013, teasing “Sometime this year … that’s all I can say”. This news however was quickly rebuffed by the band’s frontman Maynard James Keenan, who said that there weren’t actually any songs written.

Well this week, Carey informed Loudwire that things were looking a lot more positive, explaining “It’s still the three of us [Carey, guitarist Adam Jones and bassist Justin Chancellor] right now and [we will be joined by singer Maynard James Keenan] soon, you know, just working on all our parts and working on our compositions together”.

Carney added that the album was now unlikely to make his original 2013 prediction, but said that it wasn’t far off, explaining “I doubt we’ll be able to get it out before Christmas. We’ll see how it goes. Most likely, it’ll be early 2014.” We’ll keep our fingers crossed then. [via Metal Hammer]

Dragon Quest Slime Hourglass: It’s About Time Somebody Made This

by Paul Strauss
D G

Not a bad price.

Perhaps one of the most iconic creatures in the history of video games is Dragon Quest’s bulbous, smiley-faced Slime. I always thought he looked like a giant blue Hershey’s Kiss, or one half of an hourglass. The latter has just been made into a thing.

dragon quest slime hourglass 2

The guys at Square Enix have designed this awesome Slime timer which counts down about three minutes – which is just about right for cooking instant noodles. It measures about 4 inches-tall, and will come in either blue slime/sand or metallic slime/sand.

The Slime hourglass sells for ¥2200 (~$22 USD) over at the Square Enix e-STORE, and will ship later this month. Meanwhile, I’m still waiting for Slime candies.

What's scarier than a movie poster featuring a baby amid darkness and smoke? A motion movie poster of a terrified Lambert family and the mystery of not knowing what's haunting them

Below, Mashable is debuting an animated film poster for Insidious 2 — the sequel to 2011's horror flick Insidious, which is filled with frightening supernatural occurrences — including a ghost inhabiting the body of Renai and Josh Lambert's son.

"The spirit world is not done with the Lambert family yet," the films' writer Leigh Whannell told Mashable, adding that the ghosts will inhabit the father's body this time around. "You have to shout to be heard in entertainment, and this motion poster definitely captures the spirit of the film." Read more...

Intel Programmer Sarah Sharp Wants Linux Creator Linus Torvalds To Knock Off The 'Verbal Abuse'

by Julie Bort

Linus Torvalds talks

There's an interesting public spat going on in the world of Linux, where a Linux programmer from Intel, Sarah Sharp, has picked a fight with the Linux creator himself: Linus Torvalds.

She wants him to stop swearing at people and to treat people with more respect.

Torvalds, the creator and overlord of Linux, is a well-known potty mouth and a sharp-tongued dude that has notorious tantrums on the Linux Kernal Mailing List (LKML), the forum where Linux developers discuss their work.

He's also brilliant, funny, and not at all a bad guy. He just doesn't put up with ideas, code, or people that fall short of his vey high expectations.

In some ways, his brash personality has helped shaped the entire world of open source software development. It's an egalitarian world where anyone who has an opinion can freely express it. Technical discussions often devolve into passionate verbal fist-fights complete with insults.

For instance, employees at the biggest commercial Linux company, Red Hat, have been known to call their CEO an idiot to his face .. and he's good with that.

But Sharp is fed up with it. Particularly on the LKML where Torvalds has said things like this to people:

"Mauro, SHUT THE F--- UP! ... Shut up, Mauro. And I don't _ever_ want to hear that kind of obvious garbage and idiocy from a kernel maintainer again. Seriously. ... Fix your f---ing "compliance tool", because it is obviously broken. And fix your approach to kernel programming."

(Torvalds was angry because he thought the programmer was blaming someone else for his own bug.)

When Torvalds and others were joking about the amount of yelling at people that happens on the mailing list and teasingly encouraging another Linux big-wig, Greg Kroah Hartman, to do more of it, Sharp weighed in with disgust:

"Seriously, guys? Is this what we need in order to get improve -stable? Linus Torvalds is advocating for physical intimidation and violence. Ingo Molnar and Linus are advocating for verbal abuse. Not *f---ing* cool. Violence, whether it be physical intimidation, verbal threats or verbal abuse is not acceptable. Keep it professional on the mailing lists."

She also posted about it to her blog, The Geekess:

"I’m standing up against verbal abuse on LKML. I will happily stand alone, however you can also support this cause. Please speak up, either by resharing this post, or commenting on this post with words of support. If you dare, you can also reply to my LKML email."

She's had her share of people join her.  For instance Neil Brown, a developer for a commercial version of Linux called SUSE, likened some of these LMKL rants to "one person bullying another. Really, it isn't nice to watch."

So Torvald's responded, with a long and fairly insightful rant on the nature of human relationships.

But first, he called Sharp's call for civility "Bull---t."

"The thing is, the 'victim card' is exactly about trying to enforce your particular expectations on others, and trying to do so in a very particular way," he wrote, adding:

"People are different. I'm not polite, and I get upset easily but generally don't hold a grudge - I have these explosive emails. And that works well for some people. And it probably doesn't work well with you. And you know what? That's fine. Not everybody had to get along or work well with each other. But the fact that it doesn't work with you doesn't make it 'wrong.'"

So,  the upshot is Torvalds is not going to bow to peer pressure and change his personality, any more than he's going to stop working on Linux  while wearing a bathrobe, he says.

We reached out to Sharp for comment.

The whole thing is food for thought, though. Is civility always the best way for people to interact? Or, if you force it on people, is that just another form of abuse?

Glamour Model, Brittany Harris, Leave Kids In Parking Lot During Lil Wayne Concert

Glamour Model, Brittany Harris, Leave Kids In Parking Lot During Lil Wayne Concert

Glamour model Brittany Harris left her two young children in a parking lot for three hours while she went to a Lil Wayne concert Saturday night.

The 25-year-old was arrested after a Cruzan Ampitheater employee, Barry Batchelor, discovered her children standing in a parking lot next to a black Nissan Altima.

Batchelor said the children told him that their mother went into the concert and left them to stay in the car.

Police were finally able to located Brittany Harris around 10:30 p.m. When questioned, she first told the police that her cousin brought the children to the fairgrounds. However, she later admitted that she left the kids by the car so that she could watch the concert.

The Florida model was arrested and charged with two counts of child neglect. She is being held at the Palm Beach County jail in lieu of $20,000 bail.

Unfortunately, Harris isn’t the only celebrity who has been accused of child neglect. Last year, Octomom Nadya Suleman was accused of child neglect and sexual abuse by two former nannies.

The two caretakers said that Suleman blocked the door with a chair from the outside for hours to keep her children from bothering her while she napped.

They also told police that they witnessed sexual abuse in Suleman’s home.

“One of the boys would take his sibling away and take her to another area. And he would be touching her. I told Nadya everything. She never did anything. ‘It’s okay, don’t worry about it.’ That was her attitude,” one of the nannies said.

Suleman was never prosecuted for these allegations because there was not enough evidence.

What do you think should happen to Harris if she is found guilty of leaving her kids in the parking lot?

Tesla Shares Are Getting Crushed (TSLA)

by Mamta Badkar

Tesla is now down 14%. Earlier today it was down 8.5% to $116.

The stock has surged ever since the company reported its first quarterly profit back in May.

Today's sell-off comes after a note by Patrick Archambault of Goldman Sachs who wrote that in the worst case the stock would be worth $58. In the mid-case scenario he sees the stock at $84, and in the bull case scenario he sees a stock price of $113.

In the mid-case scenario, Archambault expects Tesla will sell 150,000 units and an operating margin of 14.8%.

Goldman Sachs has a price target of $84 which they arrive at by taking an average of all three scenarios. They also have a neutral rating on the stock.

Here's a look at how the stock is doing today.

Male Logic

by Jonco

Man and beerWoman:
Do you drink beer?

Man:
Yes

Woman:
How many beers a day?

Man:
Usually about 3

Woman:
How much do you pay per beer?

Man: $5.00 which includes a tip

Woman:
And how long have you been drinking?

Man:
About 20 years, I suppose.

Woman:
So a beer costs $5 and you have 3 beers a day which puts your spending each month at $450. In one year, it would be approximately $5400 …correct?

Man:
Correct

Woman:
If in 1 year you spend $5400, not accounting for inflation, the past 20 years puts your spending at $108,000, correct?

Man:
Correct

Woman:
Do you know that if you didn’t drink so much beer, that money could have been put in a step-up interest savings account and after accounting for compound interest for the past 20 years, you could have now bought a Ferrari?

Man:
Do you drink beer?

Woman:
No

Man:
Where’s your Ferrari?

Thanks Gene

Zimmerman verdict energizes Salon.com’s White Privilege branding

by William A. Jacobson
D G

Peruvian is white, after all...

Salon.com, which does not have a staff that looks like America, continues its branding as the place to go for lectures on White Privilege, Whiteness, and how race drives almost everything in America.

And it’s not just David Sirota.  They even have a “white people” tag.

In the wake of the Zimmerman not guilty verdict, Salon.com has gone almost all race and White Privilege, almost all the time.

Salon.com Homepage 7-16-2013 1105 am - marked

Ond of the lead columns today is mind-numbing double-talk to excuse away the fact that George Zimmerman is not white, he’s mixed race including a black great grandfather, which contradicts the racial narrative pushed so hard at Salon.com and elsewhere:

George Zimmerman, neighborhood watchman and wannabe cop, placed a bet on his whiteness; when he shot and killed a young, unarmed black teenager because they always get away, he spoke with an oppressor’s voice, and for his service the oppressor’s justice absolved him….

The outcome of George Zimmerman’s trial is that he will go free, pardoned by a white supremacist society for acting like a white supremacist. But such a grant is, in fact, a gilded cage, entrapping Zimmerman in whiteness and a privilege that will never allow him to understand and accept the meaning of his own heritage in today’s United States. Should he break the implicit contract he has signed with the lightness of his skin — should he express remorse, or agitate against the justice system that found him not guilty of murder when, by his own proud admission, he stalked, confronted, shot and killed an unarmed 17-year-old — he will find his privilege revoked, his financial support from strangers cut off, his celebration in conservative corners come to an abrupt end.

The Zimmerman verdict, completely just under the law and facts, will give fodder to the White Privilege industry for years to come.

The PS4's Controller Almost Had Basically a Built-In Lie Detector

During the development of the PlayStation 4's DualShock 4 controller, Sony tested a version of a controller that included biofeedback sensors to detect how stressed the player was, based on how much his or her hand was sweating. That's right; the same technology that's used in polygraphs could have been an integral part of the PS4.

SSD competition heats up as Crucial offer 480 GB for under £300/$380

by Dave James
D G

*checks price of SLC SSD*
...
*pukes*

They’re not as glamorous as a new graphics card, and not as ultimately vital as a processor, but a good solid state drive can make a big difference to your gaming PC. It’s also an incredibly easy upgrade and making the move from traditional spinning platter hard drives to an SSD will instantly make your machine feel faster.

Solid state drives have been around for a good while now, but they probably still represent the most volatile segment of the PC component market. For processors, motherboards and graphics cards the scene has shrunk down to just a few key players, but there are still a huge number of SSD manufacturers, each vying for dominance. You’ve got massive mega-companies, like Samsung, developing their own SSD hardware and comparatively tiny underdogs, like OCZ, beavering away on their own memory controllers and firmware. But it’s the Crucial M500’s price that has grabbed my attention. Could this be a sign that SSD’s are moving toward a more affordable price point?

For less than £300 / $380 you’re looking at almost half a terabyte of quick solid state storage with the M500. You can also pick up 960GB M500 drives for less than £500 / $700. Granted, that’s still pretty pricey, but significantly cheaper than other performance drives of the same capacity. Worries about NAND Flash-based storage’s longevity can largely be tempered now too, with some drive manufacturers offering full five year warranties. That won’t bring back any lost data, but shows how much faith they have in their drives now.

There’s also been some interesting experiments done about the impact larger amounts of system RAM have on SSD lifespans too over on Tom’s Hardware. They show just how having more RAM significantly cuts the amount of writes software has to do to your SSD. And the less writes it takes the longer those Flash chips are going to last.

So maybe there is a reason to have 16GB RAM in your gaming rig after all. How many of you have made the switch over to SSDs for your gaming machines? And if you haven’t, what’s holding you back?

The post SSD competition heats up as Crucial offer 480 GB for under £300/$380 appeared first on PC Gamer.

Steerable Paper Airplanes Put Your Harassment Right On Target

Technically, this steerable paper airplane wasn't designed for making pinpoint attacks on a teacher or college lecturer—more as a highly affordable unmanned aerial vehicle that could be used to blanket a given area with cheap sensors. But clearly the researchers at Queensland University of Technology haven't realized the full potential of their creation.
