News anchor wishes everyone a great 'dry hump day' on live TV

Amy Andrews is having a terrible dry hump day
The Fox 2 Detroit anchor meant "dry" in reference to the weather — and happened to pair it (unfortunately) alongside the phrase "hump day" (a.k.a. Wednesday). She didn't mean the other thing
The slip-up happened during the station's morning news broadcast. When your co-anchor has an embarrassing moment on live TV, you can either be professional and sit silently until the moment passes, or you can loudly exclaim, "Oh!" You'll get to see both reactions
Perhaps it's best if we just start calling it "Wednesday" from now on.
The Fermi Paradox - Where are all the aliens?
The universe is unbelievably big – trillions of stars and even more planets. Soo… there just has to be life out there, right? But where is it? Why don’t we see any aliens? Where are they? And more importantly, what does this tell us about our own fate in this gigantic and scary universe?

Bird makes huge dent in the nose of a Boeing airplane

The Boeing 737-800 is a 130-foot-long jet aircraft with more than 150 seats and a maximum takeoff weight of more than 70 tons. So what happens when that giant flying machine gets hit right in the nose by a bird? A pretty big dent, apparently
This is exactly what happened to Turkish Airlines flight TK2004, a domestic flight from Istanbul to Nevşehir in Turkey on Tuesday. The plane was hit by a bird during landing, causing quite a bit of damage to its nose cone. The pilot managed to land successfully and none of the 125 passengers on board were injured.

Nintendo and Universal team up for a real life Nintendo theme park
Universal and Nintendo are joining forces to bring "spectacular, dedicated experiences based on Nintendo's wildly popular games, characters and worlds".
Yup - there's going to be a Nintendo theme park. Yes. Really.
The partnership of these "two icons of entertainment" seeks to offer "incredibly popular, innovative themed family entertainment experiences based on compelling stories and characters using powerful storytelling and innovative technology".
Although details are sparse - we don't know where it will be, or even what it'll be called - Nintendo states that the "immersive experience" will include major attractions at Universal's theme park and feature Nintendo's most famous games and characters.
So my question to you is: what should they call the theme park? (No points for SUPER MARIO WORLD, you guys).
Bonus question: what would be your ideal Ninty-flavoured theme attraction?
Nintendo attractions are coming to Universal Studios theme parks

Who needs a merry-go-round when you can ride a Mario-go-round?
Nintendo and Universal Parks & Resorts announced Thursday that they're partnering up to bring theme park attractions based on the video game publisher's beloved characters and worlds to Universal properties. The collaboration is still in its embryonic stages, so that's about the extent of what's been revealed.
It's the latest move from a Nintendo that seems set on reinventing itself as a response to the slow adoption of its latest Wii U game console. The Wii successor continues to have the weakest sales of the "big three" console competitors, with less than 10 million sold as of early fall 2014, two full years after its release. By comparison, the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One, both released in fall 2013, managed to reach or exceed 10 million sales by the end of 2014. Read more...

Earlier this morning Nintendo released its results for the last financial year, ending May 31 2015, and we have good news. Nintendo is back to profitability! After several fiscal years of losses Nintendo is climbing back up again.
Right, let's start digging into some of these cool sales figures we got along with the news.
While the Wii U has yet to break ten million units sold worldwide, the 3DS family (3DS, 2DS, New 3DS, 3DS XL, any other stuff that is basically a 3DS) has sold over 52 million units.
The Wii U has currently sold 9,540,000 units worldwide, which is under half of the 21 million lifetimes sales of the GameCube. While the console has suffered poor hardware sales numbers, the attach rate for games is currently sitting at a fairly impressive 5.94 games per console.
We also know that Mario Kart 8 has sold 5.11 million copies worldwide and Smash Bros. sold 3.65 million copies.
Lastly, Nintendo apparently are planning to take a "more active approach" to character merchandising going forward outside of games. Hmmm, could that Zelda Netflix show be real after all?
Honestly, I'm just glad to know Nintendo is doing slightly better than it was last year. As many silly decisions as it makes I can't help but love the company.

Woman Poses for Series of Herself Taken Before and After 150-Pound Weight Loss

Canadian photographer Blake Morrow's series The Beth Project features digitally paired images of his friend Beth before and after losing 150 pounds. The series not only highlights the drastic change in Beth's physique, but also her new attitude of confidence and empowerment that came with it. The project took two years to complete. Morrow says via his website,
"I created a series of pop-culture inspired portraits of my friend Beth, playfully celebrating her fantastic weight loss of 150 pounds. I shot her "before" and "after" selves two years apart and then digitally integrated them to interact with each other within each scene. To properly communicate and celebrate Beth's accomplishment, her body shape has not been digitally altered."

Now that the latest installment of Marvel’s cinematic universe has hit theaters, it’s time to dive into some Avengers: Age of Ultron easter eggs. Starting with Iron Man back in 2008, Marvel Studios has always included some nice nods and references to the comic book history of these superheroes being brought to the big screen. In addition, they’ve also included plenty of threads and set-up for future movies coming down the road. This may have been done a little too much in Age of Ultron, and now we have a video that runs through many of those Avengers Age of Ultron easter eggs, including some you might have missed.
Some spoilers follow for Avengers: Age of Ultron and other Marvel movies.
Here’s the assembly of easter eggs from Marvel Studios latest superhero affair, put together by Mr. Sunday Movies:
There are a lot of subtle references to the comic books that only die hard Marvel fans would notice. For example, I completely missed the program hub labeled “Jocasta” when Tony Stark (Robert Downey Jr.) uploads his new artificial intelligence guide “Friday” before heading into the final act of the movie. Is there a chance that Marvel could see Vision (Paul Bettany) creating a companion for himself in the future with Stark’s technology? It’s not likely, but a romance between Scarlet Witch (Elizabeth Olsen) and Vision, also inspired by the comics, seems like a much more likely scenario to see played out on film.
One of the more perplexing references for younger fans of Marvel movies and comics probably came in the form of the nickname Tony Stark gives to the Hulkbuster armor. Twice in Avengers: Age of Ultron, Stark refers to the armor as “Veronica,” though the first time around we don’t know what he’s talking about. But he mentions the name when speaking to Bruce Banner (Mark Ruffalo) about not having to worry about looking over his shoulder for Veronica. So why is the Hulkbuster armor called Veronica?
Joss Whedon actually addressed this reference during a press conference (via ComicBook.com) for the sequel back in April. There’s actually two layers to this comic-to-comic nod. You might remember that Bruce Banner’s former love interest is Betty Ross, played by Liv Tyler in The Incredible Hulk. Betty also just happens to be rival to the character Veronica in the classic Archie comics. The two women compete for the affections of the title character. Whedon said, “I just decided to call it Veronica because he used to be in love with a girl named Betty and Veronica is the opposite of that.” So there you go.
Otherwise, the biggest easter eggs for future films include Andy Serkis playing a character who is supposed to become a villain for Black Panther, the film to be led by Chadwick Boseman and slated for release on July 6th, 2018. There’s also Falcon talking about a “missing persons case,” alluding to a lack of progress on finding Bucky Barnes, aka The Winter Soldier. And of course, almost all of the conflict between Tony Stark and Steve Rogers just adds fuel to the future fire in Captain America: Civil War.
These may not be all the easter eggs found in Avengers: Age of Ultron, but that’s still a lot of references to be found with the film only being in theaters for a little while.
What’s your favorite of the Avengers Age of Ultron easter eggs? Did you notice any easter eggs the video missed?

Owl poops on other owl, then sprints away like the garbage friend he is

It is universally uncool to poop on your friends.
This rule applies across the animal kingdom — it is true for humans, mammals and even owls. Which makes the owl in this video, by standards of the known universe, a real a-hole.
The 15-second clip features two owls hanging out. Then, out of nowhere, one of the birds stands up, poops on the other owl and sprints away because he knows exactly how uncool it is.
‘Myst’ TV Series Will Be Found on Hulu

The big hit of CD-ROM gaming from 1993 is coming back to computer screens, but not via a game sequel. Myst, the title which became one of the runaway hits of the early CD-ROM scene and spawned several sequels and many ports, is in development as a TV series from Legendary TV. Now the Myst TV series has a home at Hulu, and we know that Matt Tolmach (The Amazing Spider-Man) is producing with Evan Daugherty (Divergent) writing the script.
TV Line reports Tolmach and Daugherty being on board. The show will “blend elements of science fiction and fantasy. It will explore the origins of the island of Myst from the game where a man wakes up on a mystery island with absolutely no idea who he is, where is, or how he got there.”
The original game was a point and click puzzle game, and this will clearly be set up as a sci-fi mystery, perhaps with some sort of supernatural element. There’s enough “expanded universe” Myst fiction out there (in the form of a trilogy of novels) that Tolmach and Daugherty have a lot of raw material to draw from when creating characters, too.
The big news here, however, is Hulu’s involvement.
It’s a weird time right now and we’re watching streaming companies scramble for rights to old shows (Hulu just got Seinfeld, for instance) and new series as well.
It was hard enough to keep track of everything on TV with just the networks and basic and premium cable outlets. Now, with online streaming exploding and more cable outlets developing original content, a series has to work a lot harder to be noticed. What can the Myst TV series do to stand out, not just from other “mysterious island” television that might linger in viewer memories, but from a very crowded landscape in general?

First self-driving semi-truck in U.S. hits the road — on the Hoover Dam
Autonomous semi-truck driving officially arrived in Nevada on Tuesday night, and it did so in spectacular fashion: Atop the curved concrete edge of Hoover Dam.
German automaker Daimler chose the world-famous location to introduce its Freightliner Inspiration Truck, the world's first licensed autonomous truck
Nevada is already ahead of the curve when it comes to self-driving cars, handing out autonomous vehicle (AV) licenses and license plates. But this is the first 18-wheel commercial vehicle to garner the designation (the state actually licensed two autonomous Freightliners), and the truck showed off its hands-free driving skill on top of the nearly 80-year-old landmark.
