AlecbuggArgghhhh but he directed the worst harry potter flicks!
Director David Yates is a man who clearly knows what he likes. And what he likes, apparently, is wizards: According to The Hollywood Reporter, Yates has now signed on to direct all five of J.K. Rowling’s Fantastic Beasts And Where To Find Them films, a move that will likely keep him in butterbeer and fresh wands at least through 2024. (There’s no exact schedule for the last three Beasts movies, but Warner Bros. is leaving a two-year gap between the first’s release next week, and the second’s in 2018, so 2024 seems like a safe guess.)
Between his work on Beasts and his directing of the last four Harry Potter movies, Yates is setting himself up for a nine-film streak in Rowling’s wizarding world. That’s a hypothetical 17 years on the franchise, potentially making him the Michael Apted—of Up series fame—of ...

Christoph Waltz is a two-time Academy Award-winning actor who absolutely nails his delivery of Quentin Tarantino dialogue. He’s a comic actor, certainly. A comedian? Well, according to Jerry Seinfeld he fits the bill as he’s one of the guests on the upcoming season of Comedians In Cars Getting Coffee. The trailer for the ninth installment of the Crackle series features Waltz along with some performers who fit the more traditional definition of ”comedian” including Kristen Wiig, Norm Macdonald, and Cedric The Entertainer. Seinfeld’s not messing with the format of his show as it ages: He picks up a celeb in some snazzy car, they drive around, chat, and get coffee. Topics of conversation in the upcoming episodes apparently include dictators and sweaters. The new season premieres January 5.
AlecbuggLotta people usin that these days
AlecbuggLooks fun
Special Topics In Gameology explores a specific corner of the gaming world in a miniseries of articles. In this special end-of-year edition, we’re examining some of our favorite unsung odds and ends from across the games of 2016. In this installment, Nick Wanserski breaks down the art of Hyper Light Drifter.
Hyper Light Drifter is one of many modern games that cribs from the chunky sprite-based look of yore. It’s now a commonplace visual style and frequently criticized as being either an empty stab at nostalgia or a resource-saving crutch for a game made by a tiny development team. Even when framed as a positive, the decision is often reductively described as a love letter or homage to the 8- and 16-bit era. While all of these characterizations are occasionally true, they don’t capture how pixel art has come into its own as a distinct design choice ...

Michael “Jim” Delligatti, inventor of the world’s most iconic sandwich, has died at the age of 98, The Wall Street Journal reports. Delligatti was the McDonald’s franchisee who came up with the Big Mac in 1967, a burger that inarguably created massive reverberations in areas beyond culinary—streamlining how fast food was served, advertising jingles, increased serving sizes, economic indexes.
The Big Mac began in the kitchen of Delligatti’s McDonald’s restaurant in Uniontown, Pennsylvania, outside Pittsburgh. Seeking a larger sandwich than its standard hamburger and cheeseburger, Delligatti came up with a recipe that used two beef patties separated by an additional middle bun (called the “club”; the bottom bun is the “heel” and the sesame seed-flecked top is the “crown”). The cheeseburger was dressed with shredded lettuce, pickles, onions, and Thousand Island sauce, and sold for 45 cents.
“Big Mac” was not the burger’s original ...
AlecbuggThis made me chuckle. Not even really chuckle, i think i just said, That's clever. Then I thought, should i share it? At first I said no. Then I thought, nah this is clever. I'll share it. So enjoy it. Don't feel a need to comment.
AlecbuggGoon was a Great flick. Think it's still taking up space on netflix

2011’s Goon was a surprisingly successful merger of a standard sports movie and a violent, fart-filled frat comedy, buoyed along by Seann William Scott’s undervalued charms. Now, Scott is bringing grinning hockey enforcer Doug “The Thug” Glatt back to theaters, with Goon 2: Last Of The Enforcers scheduled to pummel its way into theaters in March 2017.
Co-star Jay Baruchel is directing this time, taking over for Michael Dowse. Going off of the red-band trailer for the movie, released today, Baruchel’s take on the material seems even raunchier, louder, and less appropriate than what’s come before, with plenty of jokes about eating semen, and a lot of ostensibly hilarious faux-sexual assault between burly hockey players to remind you why the movie might be rated R.
AlecbuggThey're at it again!!!
The members of OK Go have been trying to top themselves with increasingly elaborate music videos ever since their one-take treadmill video for “Here It Goes” became a viral hit in 2005. And considering their most recent video took them to the final frontier of space (or at least a zero-g environment), that seemed like an especially difficult task this time around. But having mastered space, Damian Kulash, Tim Nordwind, Dan Konopka, and Andy Ross decided to conquer time as well. Their new video for “The One Moment” features some colorful, chaotic explosions that unfold over the course of a few seconds in real time. Slowed down, however, the chaos syncs up perfectly with the band’s song.
Kulash, who also directed the video, talks about the inspiration and process on the band’s website, calling it “a celebration of (and a prayer for) those moments in life when we ...
AlecbuggThe Girls are back in town

In its final season, Girls is not pretending that friendships are anything but hellish and frustrating. As evidenced by the first trailer, Hannah (Lena Dunham) is still—yes, still—fretting about whether or not she has left her “mark” on New York. “You’ve made so many wonderful friendships,” Elijah (Andrew Rannells) consoles. They burst out laughing, and he adds: “That’s not a thing.“ Even if Hannah’s not being honest about her life goals, at least she’s owning up to the fact that most of her relationships are toxic. Speaking of: the trailer opens with Desi (Ebon Moss-Bachrach) and Marnie (Allison Williams) pulling up in a red convertible, looking like they were dropped in from a Wes Anderson film. Meanwhile, Shoshanna (Zosia Mamet) is “freaking out” and Jessa (Jemima Kirke) appears to be going strong with Adam (Adam Driver). We’ll see how this all wraps up ...

This morning, Nintendo announced it’s creating a real-world puzzle game based on The Legend Of Zelda and taking it on a tour of eight U.S. cities throughout 2017. Called Defenders Of The Triforce and inspired by the live-action escape rooms that have popped up all over the globe in recent years, it’ll be a replica of the Zelda world where a team of six players work to solve a puzzle within a set time limit. The would-be heroes will interact with traditional Hyrule denizens, like the stone-skinned Gorons and fish-like Zoras, and find items that open up new areas and help them progress through the game’s mystery.
It’s being produced in partnership with SCRAP, the Japanese company that designed the first live-action escape room game and helped turn them into a worldwide phenomenon.

This is seemingly part of Nintendo’s newfound desire to do more ...
AlecbuggOH NO
When Conan O’Brien settled in for an installment of “Clueless Gamer” alongside Elijah Wood he began by cracking some expected Lord Of The Rings jokes. But the proceedings took a turn for the nasty and hilarious as the two played Final Fantasy XV and became ultimately bored and befuddled. “I’ve never been this confused by a game in my life,” O’Brien sputtered. “And this is really saying something.”

The plot of the latest Final Fantasy isn’t really important for the purposes of viewing this clip, and, to be honest, it doesn’t seem to be engaging whatsoever. What’s far more entertaining is watching O’Brien have a veritable meltdown as he tries to figure out what’s going on. “This is a video game as written by James Joyce,” he quipped. His ultimate review was savage: “This whole thing is like an epic blue balls ...

AlecbuggOverwatch is the best
It's been a long, long time coming, but Blizzard finally, officially announced the newest addition to Overwatch's roster. Just like everyone figured out already, Sombra's abilities are based around her hacker persona. Thanks to a seemingly never-ending ARG and a series of leaks, fans have had a pretty good handle on the character for a while now -- which means there's already tons of great fan art, comics and other assorted goofs. These Hot Takes have been coming non-stop since Sombra was revealed at Blizzcon on Friday, and we've collected some of our favorite jam-ups below.
