Since, to my surprise, a whole bunch of people requested a poster of the comic about teaching things to your kid, we've set up a short run on teespring. Enjoy!
What’s for Lunch

I love the Killer Instinct series. I used to play Killer Instinct 2 in the arcade all the time and I own Killer Instinct for the SNES and Killer Instinct Gold for the N64, but I’m not too sure how I feel about Killer Instinct for the Xbox One. I’m glad that Ken Lobb is still involved in the title, but unfortunately it’s only in a supervisor capacity. I guess I will just have to wait until I get a chance to actually play it… For free!
I’m not worried about the game being free-to-play the world’s most generous demo. I actual think that’s pretty cool. Play the game, finish it and if you like it buy the whole thing. It’s a very smart business model that other fighting games should adopt. Would probably need to be modified to work for some of the other genres though.
Abysmal Reflections

I laughed hard at this comic. A seriously hardy laugh. I needed that. Good times…
Oh no. . .
Sorry about the lack of new comics lately. I’m having too good a time story boarding stuff for The Cyanide and Happiness Show and the new weekly shorts. so much fun in fact, the latest short that was released today is one that I did the animatic (animated storyboard) for! Go watch the shit out of that!
Today’s comic is actually one of the Inebriated Super Hero prints that we had for sale at the Salt Lake Comic Con over the weekend. The show was amazing. Being a local one, I got to reconnect with a bunch of great people I worked with in the local video game industry years ago. Also got to meet a bunch of Channelate readers. I think I met more Channelate readers at this show than at ECCC, which kinda blew my mind, cuz Seattle is huge compared to Salt Lake. Anyway, killer show.
Shout out goes to Brian King of Mayo King Comics who brainstormed with me at 4am a couple weeks ago to come up with the inebriated super hero jokes for the prints.
All Your High-Res Base are Belong to Us

Is it wrong that I want to see the entire opening from Zero Wing redone in high-res?

Before you get mad, I'm a vegetarian. Just like Einstein. Also Hitler.
Racers Start Your Active Time Battles

This is really cool think about for me. I know the character battles are based dice rolls, but I never thought about the active time battle system this way.
Roll the Dice

I don’t think I have the dedication to get into Game of Thrones. You simply demand too much from me!
Link to the Past: 27 Years of the Legend

This will need to be updated when The Legend of Zelda: A Link Between Worlds is released, but until then it’s pretty darn accurate.

How one player helped to reform EVE Online's election system
Filed under: Sci-Fi, EVE Online, Culture, MMO Industry, Sandbox, Subscription
Last year EVE Online players were given the news that the standard method of voting in members of the Council of Stellar Management was on its way out, with a new voting system put in place that allowed players to rank 14 of their favorite candidates. The story behind that change is a fascinating one, relayed to us by the PA Report. In short, CSM official Trebor Daehdoow (just read that backwards) realized that the old system was proving too divisive and allowed middling personalities to get elected due to the stronger ones splitting the vote. He used his influence on the council to push for a new "Australian-style multi-seat election" to allow players to nominate several of their favorites instead. The end result was an election in which the candidates cooperated rather than competed and players had more of a say.
Daehdoow is happy with the legacy that he's leaving behind: "It had exactly the results I had hoped. It elected a bunch of diverse and really hard-working, knowledgeable people. The strongest people got elected. We got the best blogger in the game, Ripard Teg. He couldn't even get elected a couple years ago. This year, because people didn't have to tactical vote, he came in second."

World of Warcraft could 'end up being free-to-play'
Filed under: World of Warcraft, Fantasy, MMO Industry, News Items, Free-to-Play, The Elder Scrolls Online, MMORPG, Buy-to-Play
Despite the caterwauling of a few internet trolls, World of Warcraft has yet to go free-to-play and remains the dominant subscription-based MMO in the world of gaming. But current success doesn't guarantee future success, and game director Tom Chilton is well aware of the shifting tides when it comes to new and existing MMOs.In an interview with NowGamer, Chilton talked a bit about whether the subscription model is dead (it isn't) and whether or not World of Warcraft will go free-to-play (it might).
I definitely think that free-to-play MMOs will be around for a very long time. At some point it's possible that World of Warcraft could end up being free-to-play, but I do think there's always room for there to be subscription games.Chilton continued by expressing that he believes subscription MMOs can still work as long as devs keep content coming to players on a regular basis and make it worth that monthly credit card charge.
I do think that as time goes on subscription MMOs might evolve toward becoming a little bit more dynamic and making sure that within a month time span it feels like new events and new episodes happen to keep it fresh.Quite a few new-ish MMOs have launched with subscriptions only to turn free-to-play within a few months; we'll get a chance to see how the sub model fares again when The Elder Scrolls Online hits the market in 2014.
