No Longhorns Taken in NFL Draft, Breaks 76-Year Streak
The National Football League ended its draft today. No Texas players were taken... that is the first time that has happened since 1937.
The Longhorns snapped the longest draft streak in the country.
Texas was one of only two Big 12 teams teams without a draft pick... the other being Kansas.
Missouri Defensive End Michael Sam was selected in the seventh round by the St. Louis Rams. He is the first openly gay player to be drafted and would be the first open player in the league if he makes the team.

Grassroots group calls for transit and parking reforms to prevent intoxicated driving
Former bartender Sara LeVine created the 'ATX Safer Streets' organization, which aims to change the face of Austin transit. LeVine and fellow members are calling for peer-to-peer ride sharing services like Uber and Sidecar, as well as more overnight parking in downtown's core area. She believes better late night transportation networking will curb the number of people that choose to get behind the wheel after they've had too much to drink. The group is holding their first public event on May 11th from 4pm to 7pm on East 6th street.
APD: Look Out for 'The Walking Dead'
Austin police have issued a a warning to the public about a synthetic marijuana after a rash of incidents downtown. It's called "The Walking Dead" and over the last 10 days, 38 people have overdosed on it. Austin Travis County EMS reported another incident this morning. Organized Crime Commander Chris Mc Ilvain says the department is still trying to find out what is in it.
"We have one empty bag of the Walking Dead," sid McIlvain. "That is the substance that we believe is being attributed to the overdoses, mainly because of victim statements."
The supply of Walking Dead came down from Dallas where dozens of others also overdosed over a similar time frame.\
It was sold by 42-year-old Jonathan Martin in the downtown area. He won't be charged in this case, because police aren't sure what exactly the Walking Dead is yet, or if it's even illegal. Organized Crime Commander Chris McIlvain says that's often the case with synthetic marijuana.
"Law enforcement would seize it, break down the formula, create an analog and make it illegal," said McIlvain. "Chemists would then change the formula, keeping the effects the same, so when it was seized again it wouldn't match the analog and therefore it was not illegal."
Signs and symptoms that we've been seeing are wide and varied," said EMS Capt. Darren Noak, "seizure acitivity, blackouts, psychotic episodes, violent aggressive behavior, chest pain and increased heart rate."
Synthetic marijuana is usually an inert leaf that is dried, then sprayed with chemicals to imitate the effects of marijuana. Many brands, like Kush, Scooby Snacks and Mad Monkey are legal and sold in stores.

Watch the Filthy New Trailer for A Million Ways to Die in the West
There's a new red band trailer out for Seth MacFarlane's A Million Ways to Die in the West, and I'm inclined to say against my better judgment that this movie might actually be kind of funny.

Austin Filmmaker Takes In Convicted Killer
DarendukesLinklater
A convicted killer will be living in Austin with the man who based the Hollywood film "Bernie" on his life. In 1999, a jury convicted Bernie Tiede in the shooting death of 81-year-old Marjorie Nugent. Tiede was a former mortician in Carthage, Texas. He befriended Nugent, a rich widow, before their relationship turned toxic. Seventeen years later, a judge agreed to reduce Tiede's sentence after it was revealed he had been sexually abused throughout his youth. In a strange twist the judge ordered Tiede to live with Austin filmmaker Richard Linklater who co-wrote the dark comedy "Bernie" about the crime. Tiede was released Tuesday on a $10,000 bond. On Wednesday, he became a resident of Hyde Park. Linklater told KEYE TV Tiede will be living in an apartment on his property.

APD investigating attempted kidnapping in northwest Austin
Darendukes"...on Ganymede Drive."
Austin police are investigating, after an attempted kidnapping of a 12 year-old girl in the Milwood neighborhood in Northwest Austin.
According to APD. the girl was riding her bike to a friends house, when she passed a parked four-door gray car on Ganymede Drive. "Someone apparently opened the driver's side rear door and tried to pull her off of her bike," said Public Information Specialist Jennifer Herber. The girl managed to get away and called police from her friend's house.
"She described him as a hispanic male wearing blue jeans, unfortunately, we don't more of a description than that and we don't know the make and model of the vehicle," said Herber.
Parents are urged to call police if they notice anything suspicious.
Is This the Worst Tech Idea of 2014?
DarendukesThis is retarded.
If you can't birth a genuinely good idea, there's a mounting body of evidence saying you should try the most deliberately stupid idea possible. How about a storage unit company that's calling itself a technology startup?

Of note; Jimmy says, "We'll be right back with Future Islands!" So now I'm definitely going to Hulu this episode.

Vladimir Putin Bans Russia's Four Most Important Curse Words
DarendukesStarting July 1st Russian's can't use the words: cock, cunt, fuck, whore/bitch.
'Eat a bag of dicks' is still cool though.
Which (roughly) translates to: Ешьте мешок Дикс.
George Carlin's Seven Dirty Words have nothing on Russia's mat, a profane vocabulary that's common throughout the country, and especially prevalent in male-dominated spaces like prisons and the army. Mat has a long history in poetry, parody, and political speech, and, on Monday, Vladimir Putin signed legislation to ban it.
30th overdose of synthetic marijuana reported in Austin
DarendukesOmg people, just smoke REAL marijuana!
As the number of suspected synthetic marijuana overdoses in less than a week reached 30 Monday, officials said the problem may be spreading after responding to the first case outside the downtown Austin area. Until Monday afternoon, all of the 911 calls involving patients that medics determined had consumed the synthetic marijuana commonly known as K2 came from around the Austin Resource Center for the Homeless and the Salvation Army. But the 29th overdose case since Wednesday morning happened around 1:30 p.m. Monday in East Austin, near where U.S. 290 and U.S. 183 intersect. A 30th case drew medics back to downtown less than two hours later.
