A massive sinkhole apparently brought on by heavy rain opened up in Shezhen, China, swallowing a security guard alive and causing nearby residents to evacuate. Yang Jiabin, 25, was walking in the Futian district near new construction yesterday afternoon when the ground gave way beneath him, opening into a 26 foot-wide, 52 foot-deep crater; despite the quick arrival of rescue workers, he reportedly died on-scene. There's been another case of a student and teacher having an inappropriate relationship. This latest incident happened near Houston.  Kathanna Culp, 28,  is accused of having sex with a student in the Spring Branch ISD and of hosting pot parties for teens.  Terry Abbott, who was chief of staff at the U.S. Department of Education under President George W. Bush, calls these types of relationships an epidemic, and says school districts need to do more to stop it.  Abbott decided to start keeping track of the media accounts of these types of cases, and what he found since January 1 is more than 200 cases nationwide — nearly two every week.  "That tells us that we have an epidemic, and we've got to deal with it aggressively," he said.  Texas leads the way in these types of cases. There have been 26 since the beginning of the year.

For his birthday, Giev Fowler's girlfriend took him to Wolf Creek Habitat & Rescue in Brookville, Indiana. There, with the pair standing among the sanctuary's (apparently very habituated) canids, one of the creatures started howling, which quickly "led to a symphony of howls from all 30 of the wolves." It's absolutely remarkable to behold, if a little chilling.

Last week in Egypt, a group of Russian photographers apparently climbed the Great Pyramid of Giza—hiding from guards for four hours after closing time before beginning the ascent. Climbing the pyramid, one of the photographers claims, carries a punishment of one to three years. But it was worth it. "I was speechless," one wrote. "I felt a chilling delight, absolute happiness." We just checked out Game Technologies' DICE+ in the opening hours of GDC 2013, which should be available today for retail pre-order and as a developer kit package. The device is an electronic die with LED displays that developers can integrate with their games. The die can be used for its obvious application as a randomized generator of numbers 1-6, but it also has a built-in accelerometer and touch-senstive sides, which Game Technologies hopes other developers will explore.

Game developers can now order the $99 developer kit, which includes shipping worldwide, providing them with a die and software for incorporating the product into games (or building a game from the ground up using the device).

Game Technologies' DICE+ currently supports seven games, with a few more planned by the hardware developer's recent acquisition of a game developer.

From what we saw, the product is certainly still in its prototype phase and not ready for primetime. The device's anti-cheat system requires a two-second roll time which is way too long (that can be cut down). The die also is not particularly fond of soft surfaces, since it needs that initial impact to register the roll, something the team discovered last night when they were product testing in the hotel room.

The retail version is also available for pre-order for $39.99. The DICE+ is expected to launch this summer, with an official launch celebration at Gamescom in Cologne, Germany in August.
