Fake soap company....What, plastic fake? Decorative fake? What? - No, like they don't exist.

A Fake Vibrating Bar of Soap Promises To Hand-Wash Your Clothes For You

Is there anything worse than having to waste an evening hand-washing your clothes in a sink while on vacation? Absolutely not. So the creators of the Dolfi want their little contraption to do most of the work for you, passively scrubbing clothes clean using ultrasonic vibrations while you're sipping Mai Tais on a beach.

Hitting a piñata while ziplining is like a real life video game

This looks incredibly fun. Filmed by the good times having Devin Super Tramp, it shows people hitting a piñata while ziplining. It's a good excuse to have a whack at things while zipping on by but also looks like a fun video game happening in real life.

One of the more annoying youtube people I have ever seen, yet I still watched the whole thing...

Could the Kool-Aid Man Really Survive Crashing Through a Brick Wall?

It's a question that every kid has kept in the back of their minds since first seeing that giant jug of sugary liquid come bursting through a wall on those Kool-Aid commercials: could the Kool-Aid Man really survive such an 0ver-the-top entrance? So Vsauce3 has finally taken the time to break down the science and answer that question once and for all.

PiDGiN’s East-Meets-West Upscale Fusion Cusine for Dine Out Vancouver

by Vanessa Choot

Although Pidgin opened two years ago in Vancouver’s Gastown with some controversy regarding gentrification in the downtown Eastside, the restaurant has quickly recovered and carved a niche in the Vancouver community as a dining hotspot for East-meets-West upscale fusion cuisine.  Pidgin combines unique and unusual ingredients in their dishes, highly inspired by Japanese or Korean cuisine, and pairs it with high quality, fresh ingredients and tons of flavour for a buzzworthy and unpredictable Vancouver dining experience.

A selection of the dishes available from Pidgin’s 2015 Dine Out Vancouver Menu

Pickled kabocha, onsen egg, chicharron, kohlrabi noodles, and pickled shimeji are all foreign sounding oriental ingredients that you will find on Pidgin’s 2015 Dine Out Vancouver menu.  If you are someone who likes to know exactly what’s in your food, bring a dictionary.  Served family style, expect to taste, share and discuss your meal with those around you.

Unlike other Dine Out Vancouver options, Pidgin serves ALL of the dishes listed on their Dine Out Menu.  That means you don’t have to decide between the Asian Bouillabaisse with Softshell Crab or the Striploin with Pickled Mushrooms – you can have it all.

Modern Mix Vancouver was invited to an exclusive preview and tasting of Pidgin’s Dine Out Vancouver 2015 menu.  See below for some highlights:

Miso roasted beet, dark chocolate crumble, beer puree.

Tuna, smoked yolk emulsion, shishito pear salsa.

Soft shell crab, bouillabaisse, octopus mantle crackers.

I wouldn’t hesitate to get the vegetarian option here – the dishes are just as unique as the non-vegetarian option.

Parisienne gnocchi, radishes, radish green pistou, buttermilk ricotta.

There’s only one dessert option on Pidgin’s Dine Out Vancouver 2015 menu, but it’s a great one to top off your meal.  Not too sweet, with contrasting textures of crisp (persimmon), crunchy (black sesame crumble) and smooth (white chocolate mousse).

Caramelized white chocolate mousse, black sesame crumble.

Dine Out Vancouver is an annual festival hosted by Tourism Vancouver, running this year from January 15 to February 1, 2015.  Visit Pidgin at 350 Carrall Street in Gastown for their $38 set menu.

A Door-Bottom Filter Keeps Your Neighbors' Smells Out of Your Apartment

When you live in an apartment or a condo not only do you have to put up with noisy neighbors, you also have to deal with their smells sneaking into your home via the hallway. A draft blocker is one way to seal off the crack at the bottom of your front door, but those always seem to be in the way. So the Door Filter, which attaches to the bottom and rides along whenever your front door's opened and closed, seems like a far better one.

Disney's Sand-Sketching Robot Turns Beaches Into an Artist's Canvas

If you thought elaborate sand castles were the only way one could express their artistic vision on the beach, Disney Research and ETH Zürich want to introduce you to their Beachbot. Slightly larger than a Roomba, the cartoonish robot turtle uses innovative soft balloon-like wheels so that it doesn't leave a trail while rolling across a beach, but can deploy a built-in rake as needed to draw elaborate designs in the sand.

This Cheap 3D-Printed Rolex Would Be Perfect For Spendthrift Giants

There's no easier way to humblebrag about your success than by wearing a Rolex watch, and that's probably why the brand is also synonymous with knock-offs and replicas. A Wall-Mounted Bar Cabinet Inspired by a Spinning Coin

With curved, segmented panels of wood veneer, the Dime cabinet references the look of a spinning coin. Designed by Splinter Works, the domed, wall-mounted cabinet opens up to reveal a bar with spaces to hold bottles of wine or liquor, as well as shelves to hold barware.

The panels fan out to close the cabinet, leaving the sleek American walnut veneer on the outside. On the inside, you’ll notice the sycamore veneer creating a contrast to the darker walnut.

In May, we wrote about the world’s first glow-in-the-dark road by Daan Roosegaarde, of Studio Roosegaarde. And guess what, he’s back at it again. This time, with a twinkling, bicycle path that’s inspired by Vincent van Gogh’s famous painting, The Starry Night.

Think Wood Can’t Be Sewn? Think Again!

by Caroline Williamson

Think Wood Can’t Be Sewn? Think Again!

Berlin-based product designers Anastasiya Koshcheeva and Oya-Meryem Yanik teamed up on a project that is a study in materials. Chester is a new, innovative material that looks at molded wood in a completely new way. After much research, they created a new surface material that’s held together with seams, and not the typical glue, giving the wood a quilted look.

The stitching not only adds decorative detail to whatever it’s covering, in this case a stool, it adds a bit of cushioning. The material can by used by itself or applied to plywood.

Get Ready for Winter at Mountain Equipment Co-op

by Abriel Chan
Prettocraig

Sharing for the ridiculous skiing/norther lights photo....here is some more info on it http://adventure.nationalgeographic.com/wallpaper/adventure/extreme-photo-of-the-week/ski-aurora-tombstone-mountains/

With the beginning of ski season in Vancouver, it’s a sure sign that winter is on its way.  What perfect timing for Modern Mix Vancouver to catch up and visit Mountain Equipment Co-op (MEC) to see what’s new this season at Vancouver’s number one rated sporting goods store.

Tobin Seagel, arm of Mount monolith in background, Tombstone Park, Yukon

The Vancouver-based MEC originated in Vancouver and now prides itself as Canada’s largest supplier of outdoor merchandise and equipment with 17 stores across Canada. Historically, MEC was focused on mountain climbing and alpine sports but has now diversified into almost every outdoor activity from camping, biking, running, winter sports, water sports and more.

On the retail side, MEC recently launched its new line of lifestyle clothing which blends the performance and quality aspect of MEC’s products with fashionable fitting and style for both men and women. The new launch is still in its beginning stages and will likely be full form by Fall 2016.

MEC_FW2014_Lifestyle_2421

Personally, I think the new line is great because of its versatility – this lifestyle line is tailored to be suitable for both the city and the mountains. Apart from the MEC brand, they also carry a wide range of select apparel brands such as Adidas, Nike, Patagonia, Prana, Horny Toad, and many more.

Interestingly, the company is guided by its members who all technically own a stock (membership) and can vote for the Board of Directors and other company initiatives and resolutions.

MEC New Head Office

MEC’s progression and continual redefinition of itself as Canada’s leading sporting goods store is evident in its new corporate headquarters, a 112,000 square foot “base camp”, on Great Northern Way in East Vancouver. Of course, it’s a newly developed green building with state of the art ventilation, climbing cave, fitness facility, and roof top patio.

“MEC’s commitment to innovative green building and creating green jobs represents a significant contribution to Vancouver’s economy and our goal of becoming the greenest city in the world by 2020. The new landmark head office is another huge boost for Vancouver’s False Creek Flats, which is fast emerging as a thriving district for innovation and green enterprise.” – Mayor Gregor Robertson

MEC HQ 2

MEC’s new head office facility was designed to meet the Platinum standard of the Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) green building rating system. The LEED Platinum standard exceeds the City of Vancouver’s requirements, and it is one of the highest green building standards in the world.

So what are you waiting for?  Stop by MEC and pick up some new gear for the season, whether it’s for the walk to the office or a climb to the summit of one of Vancouver’s beautiful mountains.  With this continued commitment towards active fashion, health and wellness, and a solid commitment to the environment, there’s no surprise that MEC will continue to be a leading retailer in Vancouver.

Miito consists of a rod and a base. To heat any liquid, all you do is fill your vessel with however much liquid you like, put it on the induction base, and immerse the rod in the liquid. Once the rod is immersed, the induction power turns on and heats the base.

Once the liquid has boiled, the rod signals the base to go on standby. When the rod is fully placed on the base without being immersed in anything, the device shuts off.

How Long It Takes to Burn Off a Thanksgiving Dinner 10 Different Ways

It's okay, we can give ourselves a pass every now and then, but let's be real: if we don't want to have more chins on our chin's chins by New Year's, we're going to have to work it off.

One very warm century later, there are only 26 glaciers here. And by 2030, scientists warn, that number could be zero.

Does anyone really need a "designer" gym

A Modern Thai Boxing Gym by Spray Architecture

All gyms kind of look the same, don’t they? A little tired and not very inspiring. Then there’s La belle equipe, a Thai boxing gym in Paris designed by Spray Architecture. Located in an Art Nouveau building that’s classified as an historic monument, this gym aims to be unique and a friendly place for people to enjoy.

The space is split into two levels and originally the ground floor and basement were completely empty. Now the ground floor houses the reception area, a desk, a closet, and a tutoring space. In the basement, they created two changing rooms and a place for group boxing and yoga classes.
