HAVANA—Officially closing the brief period of eased tensions between the two countries, the United States government severed all diplomatic ties to Cuba today after President Obama was reportedly hit in the face by a foul ball while attending an exhibition baseball game between the Cuban national team and the Tampa Bay Rays. “Shortly after being struck just below the left eye by an errant line drive this afternoon, the president determined that the U.S. would terminate all humanitarian aid to Cuba, effective immediately,” said White House Chief of Staff Denis McDonough, who stated that Obama was glancing down at his phone in the fifth inning when Cuban slugger Yosvani Alarcon Tardio drove a late-breaking pitch over the third-base dugout and directly into the commander-in-chief’s head, adding that the disoriented president, with blood gushing from his nose and covered in the contents of his bag of popcorn that ...
NOVI, MI—Having insisted that her husband and three kids start without her, local mother Cheryl Lenox sat down for dinner three months after the rest of her family finished their meal, sources confirmed Monday. “Mmm, this smells good,” Lenox reportedly said out loud to an empty kitchen table as she finally sat down with a plate of roast pork and vegetables she had prepared for her family back on December 19 of last year. “Oh, I might need to heat this up for a few minutes.” Sources confirmed that Lenox was able to eat four bites of the meal before she was summoned to get up and pack lunches for her family.
That's the coolest thing I've ever seen being trailed behind a regular old pickup truck.

Michigan's harsh winter is no place for a retired old spy plane (a Martin RB-57 Canberra) to grow old.

OK, this one isn't strictly car news, but we were alerted to the story by our friends at Chevrolet, and we know most of you enjoy a bit of vintage plane content as much as we do. A restoration effort is underway in Michigan, not of a car or even a famous warbird, but the Willow Run bomber factory, where the actual "Rosie the Riveter" (Rose Will Monroe) worked during World War II. Last month, three historic aircraft—a PB4Y-2 Privateer, an RB-57 Canberra, and a DHC-4 Caribou—were brought inside the Willow Run plant for the first time in many decades.
During WWII the nation's car makers joined the war effort, building planes, tanks, and other material. Willow Run was originally a farm, which Henry Ford bought in 1931 with the idea of using it to give kids from the city exposure to a more rural way of life.
In 1941, Ford transformed the site into a factory and airfield. At first Willow Run just made parts for the Consolidated B-24s, which were assembled elsewhere. But in 1942, the first Ford-built B-24 Liberator rolled out of the factory's doors, the first of almost 7,000.
There's a house bill in Georgia looking to restrict the civil rights of LGBT citizens?! What is this, fucking Russia?!?!?
The NFL has warned they might not allow Atlanta’s Mercedes-Benz Stadium to host any upcoming Super Bowl games if Georgia passes House Bill 757, a proposal to restrict the civil rights of LGBT citizens. What do you think?
Castro also appeared irritable when asked by a reporter about Cuban political prisoners, and responded, "What political prisoners? Give me names. After this meeting, you can give me a list of political prisoners and they will be released."

A church pastor caught up in a patent battle over foam arrows is about to get assistance from the nation's best-known slayer of patent trolls, Newegg top lawyer Lee Cheng.
Newegg will donate more than $10,000 it has made from selling anti-patent-troll T-shirts to Jordan Gwyther, who owns Larping.org, a hub for the live action role-play (LARP) community. Gwyther was sued last year by Global Archery. Global Archery founder John Jackson said he's ticked off that Gwyther has tried to sell foam arrows to the camps, churches, and resorts that make up the bulk of Jackson's customers.
The Global Archery lawsuit is an attempt "to drive a passionate entrepreneur out of business," Cheng said in an e-mail to Ars. "We were absolutely appalled by Global’s attempt to impose a gag order on Mr. Gwyther."

Like Matt Damon in The Martian, NASA is getting ready to science the @$!# out of the International Space Station. Late on Tuesday night, pending last-minute weather or technical issues, a spacecraft named for the late space shuttle Columbia commander Rick Husband will launch from Kennedy Space Center. Liftoff of the science-laden spacecraft is set for 11:05pm EDT (3:05am GMT Wednesday).
The launch of the Orbital ATK spacecraft is NASA’s second resupply mission to the International Space Station after two critical supply ship failures: an Orbital launch in late 2014, and a SpaceX flight in June 2015. After NASA’s commercial fleet was grounded for half a year, the space agency is now trying to settle into a more regular resupply schedule. The first SpaceX resupply flight since its accident is scheduled for April 8.
A variety of scientific payloads highlight Tuesday’s launch. Among its 3.5-ton cargo of food, water and other supplies, the S.S. Rick Husband will ferry 777kg of scientific experiments into space, including an upgraded version of a 3D printer, gecko-like grippers for moving around in microgravity, the first component of an ambitious Spacecraft Fire Experiment, and an experiment to that will allow scientists to better understand the behavior of regolith on asteroids and other small bodies with near-zero gravity.
The birth, which took place in front of a group with Captain Dave's Dolphin and Whale Watching Safari, occurred in mere seconds as onlookers gasped.
"What a once in a lifetime thing to see! In over 20 years on the water, I have never seen anything like that," company owner Dave Anderson said in a statement. "And I know of no one who has ever seen a wild Pseudorca birth!"
Immediately after the birth, the mother false killer whale worked to keep the newborn close to the surface to help it breathe.
The pod of about 40 huddled around the calf and they spent roughly 10 minutes taking turns pushing it to the surface while the newborn learned how to swim.
The birth was even more of a rare sight considering false killer whales are typically not seen off the coast of California, keeping instead to warmer waters.
Today, at the supermarket, I picked up a pack of toilet rolls, at which point my 5-year-old daughter turned to me and screamed, "A CLEAN BUTTHOLE IS A HAPPY BUTTHOLE!" in front of a dozen other people. I have no idea where she heard that. FML
Today, I called to see if my bridesmaid's dress was ready. They told me it had already been picked up, the bride's mom picked up the dress and got rid of it because she doesn't want me in the wedding. FML

Your own child died, and now you're claiming the trial against you is a government conspiracy to frighten people into getting vaccines?! Too bad the parents didn't die instead.
David and Collet Stephan have characterized the criminal charges against them as a fight against the “vaccine agenda.”
Don't want to fork out for rip-off solar eclipse glasses? Then there are a number of alternative ways of viewing the rare phenomenon - some of which involve household items including a colander and a mirror.
The total solar eclipse will take place between Tuesday 8 March and Wednesday 9 March, with the first people starting to see a partial eclipse at 23:19 GMT on the 8th.
It will be visible across an area of Pacific Ocean, beginning in Indonesia, and ending in the northern Pacific Ocean. Sadly, people in the UK won't be able to witness the rare phenomenon this time around.
If you're lucky enough to be in the right part of the world to see it, remember that staring directly at the eclipse with the naked eye can ruin your eyesight by damaging your retinas.
Here are 5 ways to look at the solar event safely.
Make a pinhole projector
Perhaps the most well-known way to stare indirectly at an eclipse is to create your own pinhole viewer. All it takes is a couple of pieces of white card.
Use a pin to create a small hole in the centre of one of the pieces of card. Stand with your back to the eclipse and hold the perforated piece of card up so it gets the full force of the eclipse.
Then, use the second piece of card as a "screen" in front of you. The eclipse itself will be projected through the pinhole and onto the screen. The image will be inverted, but it will also be safe to look at.
Use binoculars to make a pinhole viewer
You can use binoculars in a method similar to the one described above to create a projected image of the eclipse on a piece of white card.
Face the large end of the binoculars towards the sun and cover one of the eyepieces. You can also use a piece of card to create a collar that fits around the body of the binoculars to enhance the effect.
The uncovered lens will project an image of the eclipse onto a second piece of card held about a foot away from it. You can use the focus wheel to adjust the image and, for the best result, attach your binoculars (a telescope works too) to a tripod.
Using binoculars will result in a sharper, clearer projection of the eclipse than using a card with a pinhole through it. Needless to say, don't look through the binoculars directly at the eclipse.
Mirror the eclipse
A household mirror can also be used to view the eclipse. If you cover a small mirror with a piece of paper or card with a hole in it, it will project a pinhole image of the eclipse onto the far wall.
Make sure the hole is no wider than 5mm and you should be able to create a sharp image of the eclipse to project. Prop the mirror up and angle it so it catches the sunlight for you and you're good to go.
Use a colander
Yes, a colander - stick with us here. It works in exactly the same way as the first sheet of card in the example above. The holes in the colander will project several images of the eclipse onto a piece of white card or paper held in front of you.
Make sure to stand with your back to the sun and hold the colander on your above your shoulder or next to your head.
Grab a bucket
Perhaps the most low-tech way of witnessing the eclipse this week is to simply fill a bucket with water and look at the reflection. Simple, really.

The maintenance crew were detained after the woman's body was discovered in the elevator of a residential building in the Chinese city of Xi'an.
The Gaoling district government said in a statement that two maintenance workers turned off the power to the elevator on Jan. 30 after they were called to fix a glitch.
When the crew returned a month later, on March 1, to finish the repairs, they found the woman's body, the government said.
The government said police had ruled out foul play and concluded the woman's death was caused by gross negligence on the part of the maintenance crew in a case of involuntary manslaughter.
