Hotline Miami 2 developer to censored Australians: “Just pirate it”

by Kyle Orland
Philip.paulsson

Haha nice. I also didn't know a sequel was coming out, I liked the first one a lot!

Following the Australian Classification Board's recent decision to refuse classification to Hotline Miami 2, effectively barring the game from sale in the country, designer Jonatan Söderström has a piece of advice for people affected by the decision: "Just pirate it!"

Söderström's suggestion came in response to an e-mail from a concerned Hotline Miami fan, who asked if there was a way for him to obtain and pay for the game given the board's decision. "If it ends up being not released in Australia, just pirate it after release," Söderström wrote in reply. "No need to send us any money, just enjoy the game!"

The response was subsequently screencapped, posted to reddit, and confirmed as authentic by representatives of Devolver Digital. "He’s said similar things in the past and yes, I can confirm he wants people to enjoy the game," a Devolver Digital PR rep told Ars. "That was him," Devolver tweeted by way of further confirmation through the fictional Fork Parker CFO account.

Haha! But he spelled my name wrong.

If you encounter a hex bolt, but you only brought screwdrivers, you can try sandwiching the head of the bolt between two parallel screwdriver shafts, squeezing the screwdrivers together with a hand at either end, then twisting. It doesn't work and it's a great way to hurt yourself, but you can try it!

Endangered Monkeys Freeze To Death At Louisiana Zoo After Being Left Outside

Philip.paulsson

BOOOOO. I hope someone gets fired/fined/imprisoned for that.

The cotton-top tamarins died after they were apparently “overlooked” and left out in the cold, officials said.

A young cotton-headed tamarin looks out from its cage at a temporary shelter in Colombia, where the endangered species is endemic.

AP / Fernando Vergara

A third tamarin was able to survive the frigid temperatures after the band of critically endangered monkeys — which weigh less than a pound — were locked outside, city officials said.

The monkeys — also known as cotton-headed tamarins — are among the smallest New World primates. Endemic to Colombia, they need temperatures of 76 to 85 degrees to survive. The high temperature on Jan. 7, when they were left outside, was in the 50s, with the overnight low in the teens, the Associated Press reported.

The deaths of the two tamarins were only made public this week.

Alexandria Zoological Society / Via thealexandriazoo.com

In an email to the AP Tuesday, city spokesperson Cynthia Jardon said she couldn't provide details because the investigation remained ongoing. She did confirm that the caretaker, who had been placed on administrative leave, resigned Monday.

Public Works Director David Gill said in a statement that the tamarin deaths appeared to be the result of human error and not "a system problem."

NASCAR Driver Kurt Busch Testifies Ex Who Accused Him Of Abuse Is A "Trained Assassin"

He claims she said that a character in Zero Dark Thirty was inspired by her. The driver is in court because his ex requested a no-contact order.

"Everybody on the outside can tell me I'm crazy, but I lived on the inside and saw it firsthand," Kurt Busch said about his ex-girlfriend, Patricia Driscoll, who heads the Armed Forces Foundation, which promotes wellness for members of the military and their families.

Busch, nicknamed "The Outlaw," was in court because Driscoll requested a no-contact order, where he repeatedly claimed that she was an assassin who went on missions around Central and South American and Africa.

He told multiple stories about her having a second life, according to the AP:

He recounted one time when the couple was in El Paso, Texas. He said Driscoll left in camouflage gear only to return later wearing a trench coat over an evening gown covered with blood.

A day earlier, Busch said his ex-girlfriend told him she was a mercenary who killed people for a living and had shown him pictures of bodies with gunshot wounds.

Busch said Tuesday that Driscoll had claimed that a female character in "Zero Dark Thirty," a film depicting the CIA's hunt for Osama bin Laden, was a composite of her and other women.

Most British Media Outlets Won't Discuss Why They Didn't Publish The New Cover Of Charlie Hebdo

Philip.paulsson

LOL: "All is forgiven" and here's another heathenistic depiction of your stupid prophet, you fuckers!

The media is clearly highly divided on what constitutes the correct course of action.

Yesterday the cover of the new issue of Charlie Hebdo was revealed.

Yesterday the cover of the new issue of Charlie Hebdo was revealed.

It features an image of the Prophet Muhammed holding a sign saying "I am Charlie". Above him is the caption "All is forgiven".

Charlie Hebdo

We feel that we have to forgive what happened. I think those who have been killed, if they would have been able to have a coffee today with the terrorists and just talk to ask them why have they done this. … We feel at the Charlie Hebdo team that we need to forgive.

The British media has been deeply conflicted in how it has decided to cover the publication of the cover.

Last night, the BBC's Newsnight decided to briefly broadcast an image of the front cover.

Last night, the BBC's Newsnight decided to briefly broadcast an image of the front cover.

BBC / Via Twitter: @MediaGuido

Following the attacks in Paris last week, BBC News has reported the story thoroughly and responsibly. This has included running images of cartoons carried in Charlie Hebdo. We have broadcast television packages reporting the attacks and explaining the history of Charlie Hebdo, including images of the Prophet Muhammad, on the News at One, News at Ten and Panorama. Last night, Newsnight broadcast a picture of the planned Charlie Hebdo front page due to be published tomorrow. The BBC is a news organisation committed both to free speech and respecting our audiences in the UK and around the world. We have made the editorial judgment that the images are central to reporting the story and will continue to report the story in a careful and considered manner.

The BBC was the only British broadcaster to publish the cover. Of the others, ITV would not give BuzzFeed News a comment on the decision. Channel 5 could not be reached. BuzzFeed News was awaiting a statement from Channel 4 at the time of publication and will update in due course.

Sky News told BuzzFeed News:

Sky News has given extensive coverage to this story and to the highly controversial issues surrounding it, which have been debated on TV and across our other platforms on numerous occasions over the last few days.

As with any controversial story, the issue of publication of the cartoons has been subject to rigorous editorial scrutiny and discussions – which will continue. Currently, Sky News will not be broadcasting these images on any of its platforms.

Rotterdam's Muslim Mayor Told Islamic Extremists To "F*ck Off"

“For god’s sake, get your suitcase and leave.”

In an interview on the Dutch TV show Newshour shortly after the Charlie Hebdo murders, Rotterdam mayor Ahmed Aboutaleb, a Muslim, said Islamic extremists should "fuck off".

youtube.com

It's incomprehensible that you turn against freedom like that, but if you don't like this freedom, for heaven's sake, get your suitcase, and leave. There might be a place where you belong, and be honest with yourself about that, don't kill innocent journalists.

This is so backwards, so incomprehensible, go away if you can't find your place in the Netherlands, or accept the society we want to build here, because we only want people, including all those Muslims, and all those well-intentioned Muslims, who may be looked at with suspicion, we want to keep all those people together in what I call the "We Society". And if you don't like it here because you don't like the humorists who make a little newspaper – if I may dare say so – just fuck off.

He then gave a powerful speech on Thursday night in a public square in Rotterdam.

The death of innocent people, wherever they are in the world, may never be met with complacency. Here in Rotterdam we invest in peace. In a We Society where there's a place for everyone who respects the law and holds compassion in their heart, a "We Society" where there's a place for everyone, regardless of your background, your faith or the colour of your skin. A society where there's no place for members who don't respect other people.

We are here because, at the end of the day, the pen and pencil will turn out to be the strongest weapons and we, you and I will turn out to be the winners. The worst thing we could do now, is to meet the expectations of the terrorists, that we let hate and revenge grow amidst our people and our hearts. May we never let that happen.

Neither can we let people put up walls in our society that will separate people. Never. Not now and not in the future and that's why I implore all the people of Rotterdam and everyone who loves peace, to defend our tolerant We Society. To stand with me, the city council and everyone in Rotterdam, to go forward in the fight. Not divided but together. Not with weapons but with words. Not with hate but with love.

London's mayor, Boris Johnson, later described Aboutaleb's words as "powerful".

13 Reasons Why You Should Start Running In 2015

Philip.paulsson

I've started running again, and all of these reasons are bullshit. Running sucks. I'm only doing to to train for this stupid triathlon in SF in May that I stupidly signed up for a couple weeks ago.

Running converts share their stories.

Getty Images/iStockphoto Warren Goldswain

To redefine your belief in yourself.

"I started running during the biggest transitionary phase of my 20s. Post-university, I was unemployed and unsure of what I wanted to do next. My health was a mess; I was constantly ill, tired, and around 140 pounds overweight.

"From the start, running was a mental exercise more than it was physical. With every tiny victory – an extra few yards, a mile run without stopping – I redefined my belief in what I could do. I knew from then, I'd never be the fastest of my running friends by a stretch, or be able to run the farthest, but each run would give me a different type of triumph.

"A few years on, my life has changed significantly and the average run feels a little less momentous, but I still try to make every run cathartic. Usually, I'll lace up and run when I've had a bad day, or a good day, or run when I need to think something through, and my favourite thing to do is run to check out my surroundings; running kicks come with me on every trip, without fail!"

@tahirah__

@tahirah__ on instagram / Via instagram.com

For the sense of achievement.

"My school held an annual cross-country race down a stretch of the Thames towpath – imagine cotton gym-vests and plimsolls. Although I hated every minute and finished close to last, the race sparked my on/off relationship with running, which only really got going when I signed up for the London marathon in 2006.

"For me, running is a journey of self-improvement, but also the best release I've found. I love the sense of freedom it gives you, the opportunity to explore and the feeling of achievement. I've realised that however cold, dark, or early it is when you run, you never regret it."

@eddyshh

@eddyshh on instagram / Via instagram.com

Because running is really a team sport.

"I started running to be on my own and to discover things that others won’t see. Today I run to share.

"Social media turned running into a team sport. During the darker and colder days my friends keep me going, because I see them running on Instagram. Of course I can’t stay behind. Something to do with the fear of missing out?"

Fireworks Truck Explodes In Deadly 193-Vehicle Michigan Crash

Philip.paulsson

193!!! That is insane.

One person died Friday in a massive pile-up on snowy Interstate 94.

A truck driver from Ottawa, 57-year-old Jean Larocque, died in the accident, which happened around 10 a.m. in eastern Kalamazoo County between Battle Creek and Galesburg.

Michigan State Police Lt. Rick Pazder told BuzzFeed News Friday evening that the accident included about 193 vehicles, including 76 semi trucks. Crews were still clearing the accident out late Friday, and Pazder said they did not know what they would find at the "epicenter."

"There's unfortunately still a possibility that we could find another fatality as we get closer to the epicenter of this crash," he said.

About 22 people, including two fire fighters, were hospitalized as a result of the accident, Pazder also said.
