Jon Stewart on Egypt's Daily Show Might Be the Answer to World Peace

by Madeleine Davies

Jon Stewart might be absent from the American version of The Daily Show, but that doesn't mean he's missing from the franchise entirely. Stewart recently found himself on the other side of the desk (and the other side of the globe) when he was a guest on Bernameg — Egypt's own version of The Daily Show, hosted by the very charismatic Bassem Youssef.

Mom Orders Graduation Cake For Daughter, Asks Icer To Add Cap On The Photo Of Her Head, Gets Cat Instead

cat-on-head-cake.jpg Carol Gambrel went to a bakery to buy her 22-year old daughter Laura a cake to celebrate her recent graduation from Indiana University. She got one of those photo cakes and requested the icer add a cap on top of Laura's head. But, you know, cap sounds a lot like cat.
She thought it would be a nice touch to add a graduation cap on top of Gambrel's head. However, the family now believes, the baker must have misheard the mother's instructions and accidentally wrote down, "try to draw a cat on the head," instead of cap.
So was it really a mistake? Or -- OR -- did the icer at the bakery realize how stupid a giant black triangle would have looked on her head and made an executive decision to draw something better instead? Just look at the composition -- it's perfect. This person is a visionary. Thanks to Joe, who always speaks in jibberish when ordering a custom cake just to see what the hell they'll make. It's like playing telephone.

Iffy Light-Up Lightsaber Sunglasses From Hot Topic

lightsaber-sunglasses.jpg Because in the not-so-distant future everything will be available with a Star Wars theme, here are a pair of lightsaber inspired sunglasses available from Hot Topic. They look vaguely like the hilt and blade of a red lightsaber. Let me stress vaguely. They do light up and glow red though. Personally, I still purchase my sunglasses the way nature intended: at gas stations from the little display next to the register. See? "I'm pretty sure those are women's glasses." They're unisex. "They say 'Princess' on the side in rhinestones." THAT'S JUST THE BRAND. Thanks to lilco, who agrees the best sunglasses aren't glasses at all, just squinting.

Canadian Car Dealership Owner Gets Robbed, Creates a Radio Commercial to Drive His Robbers Insane With Anxiety

When Northstar Ford in Fort McMurray, Alberta got robbed, dealership owner Marty Giles decided to kill two birds with one stone: get the word out about catching the robbers and raise money for charity. So, he made a commercial that aired on radio stations in northern Alberta that had one simple message:

Return the stolen merchandise, and you'll get off scot free. Refuse to return the stolen merchandise, and I'll offer a 10,000 dollar reward to anyone who turns you in, plus I'll make a 10,000 dollar donation to the charity of the RCMP's choice. Money goes to a good cause, and you suckers get served in the process. Win-win!

Nothing like a little cash to test the honor among thieves. Your buddies or accomplices wouldn't sell you out for 10 grand!

... would they?

Insane Carbon Fiber Bathtub Hangs Like A Hammock

carbon-fiber-bathtub.jpg This is the carbon fiber 'Vessel' bathtub designed and built by Splinter Works. It mounts between two walls, drains through a hole in the floor, and probably costs more than a car. Obviously, it's going on the Christmas list.
At 2.7m long, Vessel is longer than a regular bathtub, leaving plenty of room to share the experience. Custom sizes are available but it is also designed so that it can be trimmed up to 20 cm to allow for flexible installation. Pictured here in black, it also available in red, blue, yellow, pink, bronze and pure silver.
What a relief! For a second there I was afraid I'd have to get a custom built bathroom to accommodate one. I'm joking, I still will. You think the walls in this place could actually support a full bathtub? I tried hanging a picture once and now my roommate wolf-whistles at me through the hole in the wall whenever I'm undressing. I'M NOT A PIECE OF MEAT, DEREK. Hit the jump for a couple more shots. carbon-fiber-bathtub-1.jpgcarbon-fiber-bathtub-2.jpgcarbon-fiber-bathtub-3.jpgcarbon-fiber-bathtub-4.jpg Thanks to Side Effect, which may include hot water burn baby, pruney fingers, or accidental drowning.

Trippy Optical Illusion Picture Is Actually A Single Shot

optical-illusion-four-pictures-in-one.jpg This picture looks like four different photos, right? Well it's not, it's actually just one carefully constructed scene created and photographed by artist Bela Borsodi. How about that! I wouldn't have believed it either if there wasn't a shot from a different perspective and a video timelapse of all the objects being placed. But there are, so I'm convinced it's actually real. UNLIKE THE 1969 MOON LANDING. You know how many times I've tried to Freedom of Information Act the truth behind those lies? None, but only because I don't understand the process. I'd love to set up and shoot my own scene like this, but you know what my problem is? Patience: I don't have any. I can barely wait in a fast food drive-thru without ramming the car in front of me. Hit the jump for a shot from an angle and the timelapse video. four-pictures-in-one-perspective.jpg Thanks to Paul C, who tried to tell me life is just one big optical illusion. Soooooo, if I jump off my balcony will I fall up?

Do It Yourself Plastic Animal Toy Corn Cob Holders

diy-toy-corn-cob-holders-1.jpg This is a tutorial from Instructables user mikeasaurus (of DIY plastic dinosaur high heels fame) of how to make your own plastic toy corn cob holders. Basically it involves sawing a plastic animal in half then filling them and hot-gluing store bought corn cob holders inside. Plus if you drill another pair of holes in each of the holders for the opposite prongs to rest in YOU CAN PUT THE ANIMALS BACK TOGETHER FOR STORAGE. How cool is that?! "Just a little." Jesus, well it's not like we're talking about jetpacks here. Hit the jump for several more shots including a chicken about to go to town on a triceratops cob. diy-toy-corn-cob-holders-2.jpgdiy-toy-corn-cob-holders-3.jpgdiy-toy-corn-cob-holders-4.jpgdiy-toy-corn-cob-holders-5.jpgdiy-toy-corn-cob-holders-6.jpg

Oh Joy + Heirloom LA | Chicken Mole Pizza

While shooting with Matt from Heirloom LA for this post, he said, "Hey, do you know how to poach an egg in olive oil? It's so good. It's like a fried egg with a poached yolk in the middle." My response? "Um, no, I don't know how, but yes, please teach me! He did, so now I am sharing this simple and amazing little tip with you...

You'll need:
- 1 large egg
- 1/4 cup extra virgin olive oil
- Salt and pepper, to taste

Oh Joy + Heirloom LA | How to Poach an Egg in Olive Oil

Here's how:
1. In a small nonstick sauté pan, bring oil to a simmer over medium heat. As soon as you see the oil wrinkle in the pan, the egg is ready to be added.

2. Crack the egg into a small bowl so that it can be easily transferred into the pan of oil. Pour the egg out of the bowl and into the bath of olive oil.

3. Keeping the temperature at medium heat, slowly baste the egg with the olive oil (using a spoon) to help cook the egg white thoroughly. Season with salt and pepper.

4. Run a spoon or spatula around the edges of the egg to make sure it's not sticking to the pan. Then remove the egg from oil when it's cooked to your desired doneness and serve immediately. I like my yolk to be a little runny, but you can keep yours in the pan longer if you like a more solid yolk.

5. Slide that lovely egg onto a plate with some toast for breakfast or onto a flatbread for lunch. We put ours on top of a chicken mole pizza that Matt made.

And as a special bonus recipe, if you want to know how to make those pizzas...

Chicken Mole Pizza Recipe
Makes 4 individually sized pizzas

You'll need:
- 4 pita bread or flatbreads of your choice (or you can use pre-made pizza dough divided into four pieces)
- 2 cups grated mozzarella cheese
- 1 cup grated cheddar cheese
- 2 green peppers, sliced and sauteed until tender
- 1 red onion, sliced and sauteed until tender
- 2 cups cooked shredded chicken breast
- 1-1/2 cups of tomato sauce
- 2 cloves garlic, finely chopped
- 1 bunch cilantro, chopped
- 1 3.5 oz. bar dark chocolate, chopped
- Olive oil
- Salt and pepper, to taste

Oh Joy + Heirloom LA | How to Poach an Egg in Olive Oil

Here's how:
1. To make the sauce: In a medium sauce pot, sauté garlic in olive oil until tender. Add cilantro and stir until wilted. Add tomato sauce and bring to simmer. Remove pot from heat and whisk in chopped chocolate. Set aside.

2. To make the pizzas, align pitas or dough on lined baking sheets. Top each one evenly with tomato sauce, mozzarella cheese, chicken, peppers and onions.

3. Bake in pre-heated oven at 400 degrees until golden brown (or use the temperature provided on the package of your pre-bought dough), about 15-18 minutes.

4. Top with a poached egg and enjoy!
