This is despicable.

“The Secretary of Iran’s Supreme National Security Council (SNSC), Ali Shamkhani, just alleged that Congressional Republicans attempted to parlay with the Iranian government in an attempt to postpone the recent prisoner exchange until after the election.”

“Several individuals—most notably former Iranian President Abulhassan Banisadr, former Israeli Prime Minister Yitzhak Shamir, former Naval intelligence officer and National Security Council staff member Gary Sick; and former Reagan/Bush campaign and White House staffer Barbara Honegger—have stood by the allegation” that Reagan’s presidential campaign had conspired with Iran to delay the release until after the election to thwart President Carter from pulling off an “October surprise.” (Wikipedia)

From Truth-Out:

Behind (President) Carter’s back, the Reagan campaign worked out a deal with the leader of Iran’s radical faction - Supreme Leader Ayatollah Khomeini - to keep the hostages in captivity until after the 1980 Presidential election.

This was nothing short of treason. The Reagan campaign’s secret negotiations with Khomeini - the so-called “October Surprise” - sabotaged Carter and Bani-Sadr’s attempts to free the hostages. And as Bani-Sadr told The Christian Science Monitor in March of this year, they most certainly “tipped the results of the [1980] election in Reagan’s favor.” […]

Mother of Navy Vet Shot at 30 Times by Police Begs For Justice

This video was posted by the mother of India Kager, who was shot 30 times by the police. One more unheard story of a black woman executed by the police for nothing. Moreover, for a really long time Mass Media didn’t have any information about this case.

In September  India Kager, a 27-year-old Navy veteran from College Park, Maryland, was sitting with her boyfriend and 4-month-old son, Roman.

Perry was a “person of interest” in a  homicide, according to the police. They additionally claim that they had “confidential information” that he “was going to” commit a “violent crime.” But that’s about all they’re willing to say at this time to justify the incident.

Kager had nothing to do with her boyfriends crimes – past or future.

However,  officers began firing rounds that killed both Perry and Kager, indiscriminately. The baby, however, managed to survive – no thanks to the police who sprayed bullets wildly a the car.

Police didn’t explain anything and no justice for her daughter happened, so she is begging for it.

God Help you.

“In Scalia’s case, ‘speaking ill’ is part of confronting his judicial legacy, which was nothing short of horrific for anyone in America who wasn’t white, cisgender, middle class, conservative Christian, heterosexual, and male. To ignore decades of decisions that served only to entrench inequality and injustice in the United States is unreasonable — and while Scalia indisputably had considerable judicial experience and training, that doesn’t change the fact that his decisions were clearly heavily influenced by his personal politics and morals, which he should have left at the door.”

ThePrettiestOne

This, absolutely.

kurozu501:

One of my favorite parts of the new Star Wars was how the whole “Finn lies to Rey that he’s a member of the Resistance.” subplot went.

Because so often in movies we have this cliche where one character hides information from others, only for it to be exposed in the most negative light possible. In the face of this reveal there’s the DRAMATIC MISUNDERSTANDING where the characters family/lover/amigo feels betrayed and wants nothing to do with them until eventually something brings them back together again. It would have been very easy to do something like this in TFA, with Captain Phasma or some other First Order character exposing Finn’s secret in front of a shocked Rey.

Instead, enter Han Solo just cutting that down before it starts by telling Finn “women always find out the truth. always.” Leading to Finn just openly confessing everything to Rey a few scenes later. Rey hears him out calmly without any dramatic overreaction. Even after hearing the truth about his past, Rey still says “Don’t go.”

I loved this subversion not only because it was a relief from the tiring cliche but because it felt like an affirmation of the friendship and bond that’d been growing between them. I loved that Rey didn’t care that he used to be a stormtrooper, that she still considered him her friend and wanted him to stay with her. I loved that Finn, with a little prompting from Han, had the decency to tell the truth instead of dragging the lie out any longer. It was clear that he really cared about what Rey thought of him and was afraid to tell her the truth but did it anyway.

What could have been a frustrating cliche was instead turned into something that developed the Rey/Finn relationship in a great way. More twists like this please.

“Earlier this morning I was listening to Pete Williams on MSNBC saying there’s basically precedent on both sides for what the Republicans are now trying to do: block the President from making a Supreme Court nomination at the beginning of the last year of his term, and that the GOP has plenty of precedent on its side. That is frankly an astonishing claim, with virtually no history to support it. It is also a sobering example of how successful Republicans are usually and are now at working the mainstream media to normalize what are in fact unprecedented actions.”

6 Walmart Trucks Shot At On Oklahoma Highway Since Sunday

by Chris Morran

(Will)
A number of Walmart trucks have arrived at their destination this week, only to find out that they had been used as target practice while driving along a stretch of highway in Oklahoma.

Multiple news reports out of the area state that six Walmart trucks, along with two other vehicles, were shot at while driving along a six-mile stretch of U.S. 75 just north of Tulsa.

The shootings apparently occurred over the span of two days, with three trucks hit Sunday night and three others shot at late Monday, early Tuesday morning.

Thankfully, no one was injured. In fact, some of the damage was not even noticed until after the trucks had arrived at the distribution centers.

The Tulsa County Sheriff’s Department is investigating.

Wal-Mart spokesman says 8 vehicles shot driving on U.S. 75 [Tulsa World]

neurodiversitysci:

funereal-disease:

the-real-seebs:

lir-illir:

Concept: Maybe “neurotypicals” who consistently reblog post about autism and other mental disorders and illnesses because they relate to them actually aren’t neurotypical, and just don’t know it.

Even the ones who say, “But everyone does this!” might only be saying it because they do it, and therefore think everyone does, when that’s not the reality.

Like, I remember someone who very obviously had OCD saying, “Everyone gets constant, upsetting intrusive thoughts, and does things to make them go away! It’s normal!” and everyone who responded to them were like, “Uh… No, it’s really not. You have a mental illness.”

I hate how everyone is so quick to assume anyone who relates to their posts without having every aspect of their mental state listed on their blog is obviously an evil, appropriating neurotypical. Maybe they are technically neurotypical, but have one or two traits associated with whatever form of neurodivergence. Maybe they’re neurodivergent and just don’t feel like listing it. Maybe they think they’re neurotypical, and are in the process of realising that they actually aren’t.

Please don’t be so quick to judge. This gatekeeping helps no one.

This is an extremely important point.

I know at least one trans person who didn’t realize they were trans until they were talking about how much they relate to trans things. Only, it was in the context of being dismissive of trans people. “Oh, sure, of course you prefer those pronouns. Everyone does.” But that wasn’t a cis person being dismissive of trans experiences; it was a trans person not understanding that they were trans.

Same thing with a lot of mental illness stuff.

Honestly, if you relate to an experience, you have the experience. Doesn’t matter whether you have it for the same reason someone else does.

On a similar note that I was thinking about recently: perhaps some neurodivergent people who are dismissed by their parents have neurodivergent parents who don’t know it. Like, if your mom says “everyone has that” when you tell her about your depression, there’s a decent chance that she’s not minimizing you, she just has depression herself and doesn’t realize it.

Yes. My parents did this. Both of them now realize they have undiagnosed ADHD.

I was in a lot of activities when I was four and five, and multiple teachers suggested to my mom that I might have ADHD. My mother’s response: “Everyone does this” and “why do you care that she can’t stand in line, cut with scissors, or go for thirty minutes without zoning out, but not that she can spell her first, middle, and last name perfectly?”

The problem is, this sort of thinking causes harm, both to the undiagnosed person and any children they might have.

I’ve talked a lot here about how much I’ve suffered because I wasn’t diagnosed until I was 20. The whole “if you’re so smart, why can’t you do x? You’re so lazy and selfish” bit. But my mother, for example, didn’t just berate me. She was even harder on herself. I constantly saw her calling herself “stupid” when she was late or forgot something or made some sort of ADHD mistake. Think about how much self-hatred she could have saved both of us had she realized that ADHD was real and she had it.

TL;DR, a lot of people who say “everyone has ADHD” (or autism) have it themselves and don’t realize it, AND THAT DOESN’T MAKE IT OKAY.

In a recent survey, 56 percent of Americans said they have less than $1,000 in their checking and savings accounts combined, Forbes reports. Nearly a quarter (24.8 percent) have less than $100 to their name. Meanwhile, 38 percent said they would pay less than their full credit card balance this month, and 11 percent said they would make the minimum payment—meaning they would likely be mired in debt for years and pay more in interest than they originally borrowed. It paints a daunting picture of the average American coming out of the spend-heavy holiday season: steeped in credit card debt, living paycheck-to-paycheck, at serious risk of financial ruin if the slightest thing goes wrong.

nearly a quarter of the US has less than $100 to their name so stop complaining about donation posts and start complaining about your shitty government

this article got me pissy because i have literally never known a single person who didn’t live like this, i thought this was just normal, and now i find out there’s a whole section of the world writing articles like this being all, “DID YOU KNOW?!?!?!?!?!? CAN YOU IMAGINE HOW THESE PEOPLE LIVE?!?!?!?!?!” and i’m like hey i’m right fucking here ok just ‘cause i don’t pay down my credit card every month doesn’t mean i don’t read esquire

Canada is not magically free of problems, but more and more I am baffled by what our neighbours are expected to put up with.

Jesus, and I considered myself extremely poor when I had less than a thousand in my checking account, never mind my savings account…

America, you need serious help…

I haven’t been working for six months and I have more money in my account than this. That’s not me boasting, that’s me going WHAT THE FUCK IS WRONG WITH THE US???? It continues to disgust me how the system is MADE to keep pouring money to those who don’t need it while stealing it from those who have nothing. What the ever loving hell???

It also permanently fucks up our ideas about money, to a degree that makes it harder for people who get out of poverty to stay out of poverty.  When money is an ephemeral thing that can never be saved or increased, only spent, figuring out how to make your money work for you is virtually impossible.

Republican frontrunner Donald Trump has threatened to sue Ted Cruz over the senator’s eligibility for president, saying that unless his rival stops telling “lies” he will take the issue of his birth in Canada to court.

With less than a week to go until the next Republican primary contest in South Carolina, Trump also lashed out at party leaders, making a veiled threat to run a third-party campaign. The warning came in response to Trump’s complaint that he had been booed during Saturday night’s debate because the audience had been stuffed with wealthy donors who opposed his maverick run.

Terrifying Ted and His Ultra-Conservative Vision for America

unseenphil:

eclecticdreamweaver:

revolutionaryeye:

Perhaps nothing captures the imperialist arrogance of Republican presidential candidate Ted Cruz more succinctly than his campaign’s statement declaring, “What is best for America is best for the world.” In addition to the obvious fact that billions of people around the world might disagree with Cruz on this point is the fact that it is not at all clear that the Republican presidential candidate’s proposed policies are even best for most Americans. But given his victory this past week in the Iowa caucus, Cruz’s ultra-conservative views can no longer be ignored while mainstream and progressive pundits busy themselves dissecting the bombastic rhetoric of the far less scary Donald Trump.

In contrast to most candidates that run for president, Ted Cruz has a clear vision for the future of the country. The problem for many Americans is that it is a terrifying vision. It is a vision that is imperialist, racist, sexist, classist and homophobic. For instance, Cruz proposes building a giant wall across the US-Mexico border in addition to using high-tech measures to keep out “illegal” immigrants while allowing corporate labor needs to dictate the flow of “legal” immigrants into the country. In addition to strengthening the military to ensure US hegemony around the globe, he also vows to boost US military support for Israel and to withhold funding from the United Nations if it “continues its anti-Israel bias.”

On the domestic front, Cruz is calling for a flat tax that will benefit the rich and gut government social spending. He has also vowed to curtail women’s rights by stating that he will order the attorney general to investigate Planned Parenthood on his first day as president. And he opposes same-sex marriage, declaring that “marriage is a sacrament between one man and one woman.” Finally, Cruz would not only fail to address climate change, which he views as a hoax, he would promote expanded oil and gas production. Given that these policy proposals make Cruz one of the most conservative presidential contenders in decades, it would behoove us to take a closer at them….

Read on:- http://www.counterpunch.org/2016/02/05/terrifying-ted-and-his-ultra-conservative-vision-for-america/

And that doesn’t even mention his theocratic tendencies.

A recent interview with his wife quoted her as saying that he’s running to “Show this country the face of the God we worship”.

Given the rest of his agenda I’m going to assume that it’s a face with a lot of tentacles and best described as ‘squamous’.

"There’s one big difference between the poor and the rich,” Kite says, taking a drag from his..."

“There’s one big difference between the poor and the rich,” Kite says, taking a drag from his cigarette. We are in a pub, at lunch-time. John Kite is always, unless stated otherwise, smoking a fag, in a pub, at lunch-time.
“The rich aren’t evil, as so many of my brothers would tell you. I’ve known rich people – I have played on their yachts – and they are not unkind, or malign, and they do not hate the poor, as many would tell you. And they are not stupid - or at least, not any more than the poor are. Much as I find amusing the idea of a ruling class of honking toffs, unable to put their socks on without Nanny helping them, it is not true. They build banks, and broker deals, and formulate policy, all with perfect competency.
No – the big difference between the rich and the poor is that the rich are blithe. They believe nothing can every really be so bad. They are born with the lovely, velvety coating of blitheness – like lanugo, on a baby – and it is never rubbed off by a bill that can’t be paid; a child that can’t be educated; a home that must be left for a hostel, when the rent becomes too much.
Their lives are the same for generations. There is no social upheaval that will really affect them. If you’re comfortably middle-class, what’s the worst a government policy could do? Ever? Tax you at 90% and leave your bins, unemptied, on the pavement. But you and everyone you know will continue to drink wine – but maybe cheaper – go on holiday – but somewhere nearer – and pay off your mortgage – although maybe later.
Consider, now, then, the poor. What’s the worst a government policy can do to them? It can cancel their operation, with no recourse to private care. It can run down their school – with no escape route to a prep. It can have you out of your house and in a B&B by the end of the year. When the middle classes get passionate about politics, they’re arguing about their treats - their tax-breaks and their investments. When the poor get passionate about politics, they’re fighting for their lives.
Politics will always mean more to the poor. Always. That’s why we strike and march, and despair when our young say they won’t vote. That’s why the poor are seen as more vital, and animalistic. No classical music for us – no walking around National Trust properties, or buying reclaimed flooring. We don’t have nostalgia. We don’t do yesterday. We can’t bare it. We don’t want to be reminded of our past, because it was awful: dying in mines, and slums, without literacy, or the vote. Without dignity. It was all so desperate, then. That’s why the present and the future is for the poor - that’s the place in time for us: surviving now, hoping for better, later. We live now - for our instant, hot, fast treats, to pep us up: sugar, a cigarette, a new fast song on the radio.
You must never, never forget, when you talk to someone poor, that it takes ten times the effort to get anywhere from a bad post-code. It’s a miracle when someone from a bad post-code gets anywhere, son. A miracle they do anything at all.”
