ThePrettiestOne

Why can't we have this in America?
Because babies are women's punishment for sex, and doing anything to prevent being punishment for sex needs to be prevented.

teratomarty:

my-feminism:

In the Netherlands, abortion is freely available on demand. Yet the Netherlands boasts the lowest abortion rate in the world, about 6 abortions per 1000 women per year, and the complication and death rates for abortion are miniscule. How do they do it? First of all, contraception is widely available and free — it’s covered by the national health insurance plan. Holland also carries out extensive public education on contraception, family planning, and sexuality. An ethic of personal responsibility for one’s sexual activity is strongly promoted. Of course, some people say that teaching kids about sex and contraception will only encourage them to have lots of sex. But Dutch teenagers tend to have less frequent sex, starting at an older age, than American teenagers, and the Dutch teenage pregnancy rate is 9 times lower than in the U.S.

I endorse evidence-based medicine, and evidence-based activism.

cumaeansibyl:

orriculum:

yknow how you want to like female characters and not immediately hate them but at the same time they’re often written by those men that have a limited understanding of women as people and it’s really hard to like a character that is less meant to be a person and more of a wanking hand puppet intended for the male gaze

the flip side is when we’re supposed to dislike a female character but she’s obviously a straw-woman the writer’s using to work out some unresolved issues he has with an ex or his mom or an unrequited crush so you actually kind of like her out of spite (especially when the narrative insists she’s terrible but the real person she’s based on was wholly reasonable and the writer can’t conceal that)

Every time a man writes a feminist character there’s a 9/10 chance he wants us to hate her.

“Don’t fight hate with hate” is an example of subtle gaslighting, where our legitimate hurt & anger at the injustices we suffer is being equated to the bigotry & abuse of our oppressors.

Being angry doesn’t mean you are being hateful, it means you love yourself enough to get upset at your own mistreatment.

Side note: Why the fuck do white supremacists have to go on an on about how victimized they are? "Oh, all I said was I think brown people should die, why do you keep victimizing me for my beliefs, WAAH."

randomactsofchaos:

so it looks like the safety pin thing has been co-opted by white supremacists. we need other, better ways to show solidarity anyway. wear an “i’ll go with you” pin, if you want that badly to wear a pin, or better yet, stand up for marginalized folks when you see them being harassed (online and irl). join an organization, volunteer your time, donate money, join a protest, if you’re able. wear a “black lives matter” or a “not my president” t shirt. there are so many ways to show solidarity and we need to get started now.

Or organize local signs that only mean things on a local level and are shared in more secure networks, not fucking announced all over the media

v for vendetta is a film with a female protagonist that criticises capitalism, condemns pedophilia, encourages the viewers to question their governments, has a central plot about how LGBT people are condemned in right wing societies (more than three LGBT characters are in it) and was directed by a trans woman and her brother.

why has this become a fuckboy classic

because they mistake V for the protagonist and Evey as simply the viewpoint character, wilfully ignore the part of the plot about LGBT discrimination, and concentrate on how cool V is with his mask and his government-rebelling plots.

What I find interesting is that - V is actually, imo, coded as trans, especially in the original graphic novel. Alan Moore claims that clues to identity of V ‘are all there’, which implies it might be a named character. If it was one, the only person matching would be Valerie, the woman whose journals V gives to Evey. Everything would match - Valerie was an actress, which would fit with both costume and tastes of V, and also why said letter was so important - and really, how the hell an occupant of a high-security concentration camp under constant observation had ability to write a letter, and also how a letter written on toiler paper would survive all these years, and burning down of Larkhill camp. (answer - by being written AFTER all these events).

Except, V appears to be male. Everyone is using male pronouns for him, in the movie he speaks in a masculine voice, and in the novel we do see a panel of his silhouette naked in Larkhill, and he definitely has a masculine physique.

But, if Valerie becoming V was metaphor for transition, that’d make sense.

That’s in addition to well, the fact that a lot of trans men begin their self-discovery as butch lesbians? It’d sure fit.

Why do I believe that theory? In addition to whole LGBT themes thing, and the letter thing, there’s one more reason. Well, I think this was skimmed by in the movie, but in the novel, we get a pretty solid clue. See, in the movie, exact nature of experiments performed on Larkhill inmates is kept rather dubious if I recall - we know they gave V abilities slightly above normal humans, but that’s it.

But in the novel, it’s more specific. So, what is the field of experiments that are being performed Larkhill concentration camp that they needed human specimen?

Hormone research.

V got strength to throw off chains of opression and fight back and yadda yadda, became a character who ticks off literally every single checkbox on definition of a superhero, including superpowers…

By literal fucking hormone therapy.

Administered to him, ironically, by the very oppressors.

From what I’ve read of Alan Moore’s stories, he doesn’t leave details up to a chance. Everything has a reason, and everything is interconnected with each other. And this, this doesn’t look like a bit of dark irony Alan Moore would pass up, since he loves that shit.

So, those are my reasons for this particular interpretation.

both the wachowskis are openly trans women now but yes

reblog this post with a cool animal species lets make a wholesome thread

ok ill give a headstart:

i really like leopard seals

axolotls are p rad

I LOVE THOSE

potoos look like muppets and i ove tem

here’s a quokka it’s like someone decided to splice together a wallaby and a teddy bear they literally always look like a benevolent cartoon

i don’t think you can get more wholesome than that adorable lil seed-eating smiley face. they’re not even like dolphins, cute on the outside and evil on the inside. they’re herbivores about the size of a cat. there is nothing wrong with them.

The Springhaas, or “irl pikachu” as it is sometimes known, is basically a rat shaped like a bunny abruptly caught in the middle of trying to evolve into a kangaroo. This is why they tend to look startled.

This is a dik dik. They are tiny antelopes from southern and eastern Africa–seriously so smol. With teeny hooves and teeny horns and big soulful eyes. And the name is fun to say. It comes from the alarm call that the females make. They live together in monogamous pairs.

Long Eared Jerboa

The adorable mash-up of a hamster, bunny, and kangaroo. Whiskers with no end, ears that put a fennec to shame, and adorability beyond measure!

bringing this back on your dashes

This is the paradise tree snake of southeast Asia:

Pretty, right?

But that’s not even the best part…

These guys can actually flatten out their bodies and…

FUCKING GLIDE FROM TREE TO TREE HOLY FUCK IS THAT AWESOME OR WHAT

Ratufa indica. Look at this awesome purpley squirrel.

Okay, this Tumblr game looks fun for once.

The honduran white bat is tiny and fluffy.

Platypus!

One of only two mammals that lay eggs, has a venomous spur, can detect electricity, and so fuckin’ weird people thought they were a hoax at first.

Botos - pink river dolphins - are amazing.

When the Amazon rises, they swin amongst the trees and eat fruit.

Also, in local legends, they transform into pretty young men who seduce girls.

the vaquita!!! they’re the smallest and most endangered porpoises on the planet

this is a picture of a calf but they usually grow to 140.6 cm (4.6 ft)

leopard geckos absolutely have to be on this list!! i love them, they are my children

This guy is a hoatzin, also known as a stinkbird. Because it stinks. Like really really bad. ‘Cause it solely subsides on plant matter, which it ferments in its giant crop that, combined with its short wings, make it too awkward to fly properly. It’s a stinky, useless bird that is actually doing pretty okay despite being clumsy and having a specialized diet ‘cause it smells so bad that most things don’t want to eat it. Supposedly it tastes as nasty as it smells.

Also, the babies have little claws on their wings that help them grip on branches and stuff. They fall off when they get older, but still. LOOK AT IT. LOOK AT THEM. LITTLE DINOSAURS.

I love hoatzins. I love these smelly horrible babies.

What a good post! Here’s Elaphodus cephalophus, aka, a Tufted Deer! Like other, boring-er deer, but with FANGS and a cool hairdo!

I offer you, the highland cow!

They’re a scottish breed of cattle that come in quite the range of colors, have long wavy coats and long horns.

Also their calves look like literal stuffed animals.

Highland coos! So cute.

This here is a coquí (co-KEE) - it is a teensy eensy tree frog whose name comes from the incredibly loud (considering their size) sound they make. They chill out in Puerto Rico and at night they sound like a chorus of fairy car alarms going off.

I see a very big difference between Trump and Pence, at least where equal rights are concerned; Trump seems generally apathetic toward LGBTQ people, whereas Pence actively seeks to harm and take their rights away. Pence supports 'conversion therapy', he opposes laws that provide protection for that community. Trump is ignorant and prone to temper tantrums, and that can be dangerous. But personally, I am more afraid of Pence.

I agree. Pence is a clear and meaningful threat to LGBT people in America, and Trump is a clear and meaningful threat to everyone in the world. They both suck.

In the days before recorded music, I wonder if nobles ever instructed their chamber musicians to play their latest favorite song like twenty times in a row.

Fun fact: Yes. Yes, they did.

Nobles were the only ones that really listened to music and to hear it you had to actually go to a concert. There wasn’t a such thing as background music yet, and whenever there was music people would listen intently. If a piece was particularly stirring, they would give a standing ovation and they would have to play the same piece over again. I suppose this would happen more than a few times so, maybe not twenty times in a row, but close.

Honestly, what better thing did they have to do with their lives anyway?

What about a terrible song over and over but with another song played once in the middle

“Bard!  I wish thee to play ‘What is newe, O Pussy Catte’ twenty times!  But, hark!  After the seventh play, play ONE ‘It bee notte unusual’”

so since donald trump might totally fuck up women’s access to birth control, may i recommend the iud

bisexualcrisis:

the iud is like a t shaped device that they put up in your uterus they have strings attached to them that you can feel if you stick your fingers up in your vagina, they kind of feel like fishing lines. but theres a hormonal one and a copper one, with no hormones. i’m on the copper iud bc i have bipolar disorder and cant do hormonal birth control of any kind. and basically what the copper iud does is that, it kills sperm. so if you were to get pregnant on the iud, the iud literally terminates the pregnancy bc copper stops egg fertilization and implantation. and it lasts longer, mine is gonna last me 12 years!

the hormonal iud just thickens up your cervical mucus and makes it harder for sperm to get up in there. hormonal iuds typically last 3-5 years but sometimes longer, it depends on where you go. and i think they stop you from ovulating in some cases. and they do make your cycle lighter and and sometimes they can make them light and infrequent the longer you have it in.

in the first month, avoid using tampons as it could pull the iud out. also check your strings regularly at first to make sure its in the correct place. theres a small risk of it falling out/puncturing your uterus within the first couple of months, but it’s rare. it occurs in one in 20 people. expulsion is most common if you normally have really bad cramps, a heavy flow, have recently given birth or gotten an abortion, and people who have not had babies yet.

but basically its the most effective form of birth control out there with i think like a 99.8% success rate and its super easy to get, just go to planned parenthood and they’ll do it there

sometimes it can affect your flow, making it heavier and more painful cramps, that happens with the copper iud. but i have experienced none of that. in fact, it’s completely regulated my cycle and my bleeding is WAY less than usual cause i used to have really bad bleeding before i got on birth control and bad cramps, and tbh the iud helped with that shit. but i really recommend the copper iud bc no hormones. and like i said, if you DO get pregnant on the iud the copper in the iud is lethal to sperm and prevents the pregnancy from even happening.

but just go to planned parenthood or your doc and see what you can do about getting on one, like i said, mine’s gonna last me 12 years.  and mine cost nothing bc i got funding from the state

the insertion itself tho, is super painful. some of the most intense and painful experiences i’ve ever had, but it takes all of about 5 minutes. and make sure you go to a gyno or your doctor once a year to get your strings checked and to make sure that it’s still in place. there is a slight risk of it puncturing your uterine wall but like i said it is rare

if anyone’s got any more questions, feel free to direct them my way! i love my iud and it’s helped me quite a bit!

EDIT: I forgot to mention they are VERY expensive, sometimes $300-$500 but most of the time you can get funds from the state that will provide it for you for free or at a reduced cost! also check with your insurance provider!

I think it was Daniel Kahneman who made the observation about doors that we can't ignore. That once we know about something, we keep it in mind even if we put it out of sight. And putting something we know about and can't ignore out of sight upsets us, a lot. So, knowing that there are people different from you in the world, and separating yourself physically from them will not make you feel safe, because you can't see what they're doing. The very act of putting them out of sight is what upsets you.
I think about this, every time I hear someone try to justify separate, but equal.
