So they’ve already put up the Christmas lights at the local shopping center right and one part of the display are these big festive phrases hung between the buildings; y’know standard stuff like “Believe” and “Wish”-- and for whatever reason, “Ding dong”. But the thing is if you stand on one side of the road half of it is blocked from view so it just looks like someone decided to write “DONG” in massive fuck-off glowing letters and hang it in the middle of the high street and tbh it’s the closest thing to a Christmas miracle I’ve ever seen

This Polish Christmas Ad Is Going Viral And You’ll Understand Why Once You See It

Nordstrom’s $85 “Leather Wrapped Stone” Makes Us Wonder: Can You Tell Real Gifts From Fakes?

by Chris Morran
ThePrettiestOne

I got 80% right on their survey. On the other hand, I'm not likely to actually buy any of these things, so I think that makes me much more safe from being "scammed"

Nordstrom is — perhaps intentionally — making headlines this holiday shopping season for its inexplicable offering of a “Medium Leather Wrapped Stone” in “Natural” for the low, low price of $85 — with free shipping, obviously. It screams of hoax, but is apparently the real deal, leading us to wonder if folks can tell the difference between bizarre gift ideas and things we just conjured up.

Regarding the Nordstrom rock, not even the store seems to know what to do with it.

“A paperweight? A conversation piece? A work of art? It’s up to you, but this smooth Los Angeles-area stone—wrapped in rich, vegetable-tanned American leather secured by sturdy contrast whipstitching—is sure to draw attention wherever it rests,” the product’s description reads. Yes it surely will, especially if your friends find out how much you paid for it.

We’re sure some folks thought an $85 rock could only be a joke. How well can you tell the real, outrageously priced items from the fake? Take our quiz below:

I feel like the werewolf genre just makes werewolves generic bad asses too often without exploring some of the pitfalls of being a werewolf….like not wanting to rip your nice clothes because you gotta tear off a dude’s face. (To be fair, she normally would wear clothes that aren’t as nice, but it was an emergency.)

I’m working on pulling together a lengthy werewolf comic story, and this is sort of a little test comic to see if I can deal with drawing werewolves constantly. (Not a problem. It’s super fun to draw werewolves.)

this was really awesome xD

I actually did that in one of my Werewolf games.  The rest of the pack hated it, but Bron’s clothes helped her social rolls, so they put up with it.

The Dangerous Myth That Hillary Clinton Ignored the Working Class

The Dangerous Myth That Hillary Clinton Ignored the Working Class:

becca-barnes:

sandalwoodandsunlight:

In the days after her shocking loss, Democrats complained that Clinton had no jobs agenda. A widely shared essay in The Nation blamed Clinton’s “neoliberalism” for abandoning the voters who swung the election. “I come from the white working class,” Bernie Sanders said on CBS This Morning, “and I am deeply humiliated that the Democratic Party cannot talk to where I came from.”

But here is the troubling reality for civically minded liberals looking to justify their preferred strategies: Hillary Clinton talked about the working class, middle class jobs, and the dignity of work constantly. And she still lost.

She detailed plans to help coal miners and steel workers. She had decades of ideas to help parents, particularly working moms, and their children. She had plans to help young men who were getting out of prison and old men who were getting into new careers. She talked about the dignity of manufacturing jobs, the promise of clean-energy jobs, and the Obama administration’s record of creating private-sector jobs for a record-breaking number of consecutive months.

She said the word “job” more in the Democratic National Convention speech than Trump did in the RNC acceptance speech; she mentioned the word  “jobs” more during the first presidential debate than Trump did. She offered the most comprehensively progressive economic platform of any presidential candidate in history—one specifically tailored to an economy powered by an educated workforce.

What’s more, the evidence that Clinton lost because of the nation’s economic disenchantment is extremely mixed. Some economists found that Trump won in counties affected by trade with China. But among the 52 percent of voters who said economics was the most important issue in the election, Clinton beat Trump by double digits. In the vast majority of swing states, voters said they preferred Clinton on the economy. If the 2016 election had come down to economics exclusively, the working class—which, by any reasonable definition, includes the black, Hispanic, and Asian working classes, too—would have elected Hillary Clinton president.

The more frightening possibility for liberals is that Clinton didn’t lose because the white working class failed to hear her message, but precisely because they did hear it.

Trump’s white voters do support the mommy state, but only so long as it’s mothering them. Most of them don’t seem eager to change Medicare or Social Security, but they’re fine with repealing Obamacare and its more diverse pool of 20 million insured people. They’re happy for the government to pick winners and losers, so long as beleaguered coal and manufacturing companies are in the winner’s circle.

Massive deficit-financed spending on infrastructure? Under Obama, that was dangerous government overreach, but under Trump, it’s a jobs plan by a guy they know won’t let Muslims and Mexicans cut in line to get work renovating highways and airports.

#THANK YOU#it’s just a flat-out lie that she had nothing to say to the working class#you know why the working class didn’t hear it?#1. because a lot of them won’t listen to a thing she says because of years of media smears#2. because a number of them are super racist and only care about that#3. BECAUSE THE MEDIA DIDN’T REPORT ON HER ACTUAL POLICIES#emails emails emails benghazi emails#that was all they reported on#if they’d reported on her THOUSANDS OF PAGES OF INTRICATE POLICY#or even the highlights of her speeches then people would have heard all she had to say to working/middle class people#i am so disgusted by the false narratives constructed to ‘explain’ why white people didn’t vote for her#ugh#us politics tag (via queenofattolia)

“As I’ve written now several times, I continue to believe we are collectively doing a disservice to the truth by speaking of ‘conflicts’ and 'complications that seems certain to persist.’ There are no conflicts and complications. The Trumps are using the presidency to advance … 'advance’ is insufficient … to warp drive their business to a realm it has never been in before and never would have been. We know they are currently advancing major new business ventures in numerous foreign countries, all of which need to manage a positive relationship with the United States and its head of state.”

- Not a surprise at this point, but the Post has a story explaining that Trump’s call withe the President of Taiwan was planned in advanced by staff on both sides.

66% of white women voted for Trump.

Their whiteness is more important than their womanhood to them.

White women want the power of white men.

White women cannot be trusted.

Not all white women. Not this white woman. To put us all into this category won’t help. I will continue to fight for all my friends.

actually, i think otherwise! to put us all into this category highlights our position of power over people whose voices were not heard at the polls yesterday.

it’s like…

rapists can’t be trusted, right? rapists are the absolute scum of the earth. and what’s worse is not knowing who is a rapist. someone in your circle of friends? someone you pass on the street? the person ahead of you in line at starbucks? so you close yourself off from someone who has that power over you. maybe just a little bit, but you’re aware of how you could be hurt. you make plans in your head about how you’d escape if you were attacked; you’re aware of the person behind you at the atm; you go quiet when they start talking about how they treated their dates.

and if a guy said “not all men are rapists!” you’d say, “yeah, but all men can be rapists.”

white women, honestly, cannot be trusted. we have endorsed and enabled slavery. we have joined the kkk and we have thrown rotten fruit at children who are walking to school. we have spit on black women who tried to fight for suffragette rights alongside us. we have formed and worked in organizations that sterilize black women without their knowledge. we turn into teachers who demonize little black boys for being too “loud” and “masculine” when they’re only being kids. we do little shitty things like try to touch black women like they’re exotic animals, and say that hispanic neighborhoods look “shady,” and tell women of color that there aren’t enough white heroines yet and that black women need to wait their turn to be important

it makes sense that people of color would put up their barriers and make escape plans from us. with that history, when have we really been allies? when have we been anything but fair-weather friends who love beyonce but think “ghetto” black girls are trashy? how can they know which one of us is one of the nearly 70% of white women in america who voted for trump? which one of us in starbucks or passing by on the street would betray them - has already betrayed them?

there’s a lot that we white women have to do into order to prove ourselves to black women and black communities. it’s really hard to stand up against the status quo, especially when we’re very aware of what we could lost if we speak up. (there goes your job, your friends, your opportunities….) but if black women are living without those opportunities every day, then we have a responsibility to work until they have them and no one can take them away. it’s not up to people of color to give us leeway; it’s up to us to work with our fellow white women to help them understand change.

I cringed when I saw “not all white women”.  Fucking seriously?  Honey, that shit didn’t work when men tried it on us, don’t try it to our sisters of color.

I accept that women of color will be afraid/wary of me at first sight.  I don’t blame them for that.  Instead of being angry that they would class me with other white women, I’m just going to be that much more aware of times and places where I can use the privilege of my skin color to try and make them safer.  Even if the next one that sees me is still afraid.

Why?  Because, in that situation, MY FEELINGS AREN‘T IMPORTANT.   It’s not about ME.  It’s not about YOU, fellow white woman who was so insulted to be grouped with those white women.  No, I didn’t vote for Trump.  But even if I walked around wearing a shirt that claimed otherwise all the time, women of color cannot look at me and know for sure that I’m not one of those white women.

If women of color are fearful of me as a white person (who passes as female), then I understand that. The fear born of something real that they experienced or have witnessed other’s experiencing. Who am I to invalidate their feelings?

Sure, I’ll let them know I’ll try my hardest to be an ally. But at the same time I’m not going to try to convince them of this because I want to make myself feel better or convince myself I’m not part of the problem. As a white person, I benefit from that privilege and I’m prone to doing racist shit. I accept that, and I try my hardest to fix it. But I can’t escape it entirely and it’s asinine that white people think they can escape it.

We can and must do better. We must. Our sisters of color are in even more danger than us, and we have to stand WITH them, not next to them decrying the idea that WE’RE the good ones.

I refuse to allow “not all men” to be a conversation in my hearing, and I refuse also, “not all white women.” No. Stop it. White women have harmed women of color. That is the point. We white women who don’t want to be lumped in with those white women need to amplify the voices of our sisters, not justify that we’re the good ones.

Woah, I’ve nearly to never seen a post like this

👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾

Keep it coming ladies.

We cannot expect to be taken seriously if we scoff at men who say “not all men” and then turn our white asses around and say “BUT NOT ALL WHITE WOMEN.”*

*I’m nonbinary & Jewish but I’m aware I’m perceived as a white woman and have the conditional acceptance as both so better fucking own it.

I don’t care who you voted for, white woman like me, we are “in that category” whether we like it or not. Facts are facts. Good intentions are paving stones.

I guarantee the woman with the Trump bumpersticker on her gas guzzling SUV sees my white (not young) face in the Kroger and assumes I voted like she did. She smiles at me, but gives sass to the young Muslim girl in a hijab who works at the store. And until we own that, we can’t respond to the fact that 2/3 of us voted for Trump with a “not me.” It’s a badge we haven’t earned and we can’t wear it.

White feminism is a real, dangerous, tangible thing and we need to fight that first because that is how we help our WOC/POC friends.

State of the recount—judge orders recount in MI, Green pullout of PA not what it seems, WI underway

by rss@dailykos.com (Mark Sumner)
ThePrettiestOne

I don't actually hold out any hope for this.
BUT, it's apparently pissing off Trump, so that seems like a good enough reason to continue for me.

It may not be getting a lot of coverage in the media, but there’s a lot of activity going around the recounts of presidential votes in Michigan, Pennsylvania, and Wisconsin.

In Michigan, a federal judge has ordered the recount to go forward.

A federal judge acting on a suit brought by Green Party presidential nominee Jill Stein has ordered Michigan officials to begin a recount of the votes in that state in last month's presidential election.

This trumps (so to speak) an objection by the Trump campaign that could have delayed the start of a recount and endangered the state’s ability to submit final results on time. Trump’s edge in Michigan is just 10,704 votes out of over 5 million cast—less than a quarter of one percent.

Meanwhile, the Green Party withdrawal of their challenge in Pennsylvania appears to be for reasons other than what was in their original announcement on Saturday, and they came up with a different direction on Saturday night.

… later Saturday night, the party announced it’ll go to federal court instead. A statement from the lead lawyer for the recount campaign says it’ll seek an emergency federal court order for the recount. It says barriers to a recount in Pennsylvania are pervasive and the state court system isn’t equipped to address them.

The real reason for pulling the plug in Pennsylvania in the first place wasn’t a lack of funds. It was a simple screw-up in the case as it was filed.

naamahdarling: roachpatrol: charminglyantiquated: so if there’s one single trope i’m always down...

naamahdarling:

roachpatrol:

charminglyantiquated:

so if there’s one single trope i’m always down to fight it’s the animal bride (folklore motif 402??) which a lot of you are probably familiar with as the selkie - the fisherman either falls in love, steals her skin to trap her on land/gain power over her, or they fall in love and THEN he steals her skin to keep her from leaving, and either way she spends a lot of time gazing sadly out to sea and then she or her child finds the skin and never returns again.
and that’s awful on a whole lot of levels - it’s not love, it’s control.

BUT. but the thing is. you how selkies/seal women was a pretty common variation of this? another really popular one was swans.

i just want you to think about that for a moment. swans. like…I get it, they’re pretty, graceful birds, certainly it’s easy to imagine them magically becoming pretty graceful ladies? but have you ever fought a swan. swans are awful. swans are the devil’s geese. imagine seeing a pretty magic lady and being absolutely enchanted by her, and stealing her magic feather cloak, and then you go up and say ‘hey i’m in love with you, let me make you my queen, it will be great, we’ll be so happy’ and she just looks at you for a moment and…

you know i was going to say maybe she just shouts for her sisters and suddenly you’re realizing you’ve made a terrible terrible mistake bc you’re surrounded by big fucking birds who are all hissing. but honestly if this swan lady is as aggressively down to brawl as any other generally unhappy swan, then she’d straight up fuck you up on her own. she’d just deck you roundhouse, honestly. you don’t fuck with swans. why does this trope exist

okay but consider this: a woman walks to the park every day and feeds the swans and watches them paddle gracefully around the lake, sighing to see how beautifully they swim.

finally one day, a swan comes up to her and says ‘why don’t you come and swim with us? you always sigh so wistfully to see us on the water, and you would be most welcome to join our company, for you have always been a true friend to our kind’

and the woman says, ‘i can’t swim’

and the swan says, ‘we’ll teach you’

and the woman says, ‘literally i can’t swim, my husband stole my sealskin and should i venture into deep water i would surely drown’

and the swan says ‘your husband fucking WHAT’

the next morning the woman’s front yard looks like this.

image

and neither the woman nor her husband are ever heard from again, though for very different reasons.
