i know i’m supposed to educate, educate, educate. that nonviolence and pleading and praying and explaining until my tongue turns numb is the face of activism as it stands. that my rage would deny my message. that lashing out would invalidate my pain. that if i step out of line those who “would have” listened are suddenly against me.

we kneel, we’re disrespectful. we rally, we’re rioting. we speak out and we’re sent death threats. it’s very tiring to always have to be quiet. it’s very tiring when they like you being quiet, because it makes it easy for you to be ignored. i’m just a voice on the internet, what do i know about anything? just the other day a man sent me a message telling me i was “a bullying selfish bitch”. i mean a personal direct message that was hostile and invasive.
that’s the thing. i’m supposed to turn the other cheek. that i take literal violence against me and my kind and make the best of it. please don’t hit me. please don’t kill me. if i shout you down, i’m asking for it. i don’t know. i’ve been abused before. maybe that’s why it’s not unfamiliar as an idea. the fist comes down if i ask too loudly. when i’m complaining i’m whining. that the best way to my abuser’s heart is just to be good and kind and get out by living.
the thing is that there’s no changing an abuser. they only realize they’re abusive when another person they respect tells them it’s true. my voice means nothing to them until then. i’m just tired. i’m tired of every single post begging for people to listen, and every single person who ignores it. i’m tired. i’m tired. the people who are against me aren’t here to be educated, they’re not here to debate in gentle terms, they’re here to destroy me.
how do i get it back. how do i believe in other people again. how do i learn how to sit quietly and do my best. how do i change the minds of people who question if i’m even a person. and why is that my job.

First, thank you for asking. This is something I feel is important!
Second, to those who wonder where this question came from, a while back, I reblogged this, and added the comment about squicks not being the same as triggers.
So what, you ask, is a squick?
A squick is an old fandom term for something that makes you supremely uncomfortable and you absolutely do not want to read it. It can be a trope, a ship, a concept, or just an event that happens within a fic or in canon. For me, abused animals are a definite squick. I don’t like it, and will generally avoid reading any graphic descriptions of such. (That includes tumblr gif sets and such too, people! Tag that shit, will you? Even if it has a happy ending.) Another deep, deep squick of mine is infant age play. Don’t like it, don’t get it, don’t want to think about it.
Now, neither of these things are dangerous to my mental or emotional state. I have never experienced either in my life, and they do not bring about any sort of PTSD, dissociation, or spiral of depression, anxiety, etc. They are simply things I prefer not to think about in my daily life, or read about in my escapist hobbies. Therefore, theyare not triggers. Triggers are very real, very bad things for some people, and to label things we choose not to read because we find it disturbing or gross or weird is to diminish the very real danger of actual triggers.
I love the term squick. It perfectly describes the concept without assigning any negativity to the thing you dislike, or to people who do like the thing you dislike. It is something you personally do not care for and wish to avoid, simple as that.

Dreadlocks are a kind of lock pattern for hair that is very curly. A lock pattern is where the hair twists around and “locks” together.
Black people pretty much exclusively have the tightness of curl needed for a dreadlock pattern, but that doesn’t mean there aren’t other lock pattern hairstyles (such as a peyot, the sidelocks worn by various Jewish groups).
So like “Goldilocks” was named after how her hair took a “lock pattern”, but those locks would be comparatively loose.

What’s the difference between the last two?
► Dreadlocks are twisted together neatly, mats are tangled in knots.
► Dreadlocks are healthy hair that can be washed, mats are damaged and often non washable without risking mold.
► Dreads take effort and skill to apply, mats are the product of active destruction and neglect of hair.
► Dreads can be removed. Mats require cutting and shaving.
Now from a cultural standpoint, it’s also shit. Dreadlocks are a symbol on many different levels of Black culture, unity, and resistance to white assimilation. To take them is an act of furthering white assimilation and an act of casual racism.
Especially given that tropes about white hippies with “dreadlocks” have affected how people react to black people with dreadlocks.
So from a practical standpoint we can’t and from an ethical standpoint we shouldn’t.

Donald Trump may be avoiding his responsibilities as the president-elect, but he’s happily continuing with his role in producing reality television, and Kellyanne Conway has no problem with that.

In this tweet, the president-elect of the United States is calling out the workers who lost their Carrier jobs overseas by telling them they should have spent "more time working" and "less time talking."
This is not normal. This is deranged. This is the sort of thing that you and I and every goddamn dog in America know, if it had been said by Clinton, or Bush, or Obama would have been front goddamn page goddamn news in every paper in America. This is the president himself attacking an individual group of workers who just got told most of them will be losing their jobs. (And is an unsubtle attempt to bust their union, or at least cast it as "lazy" on the national stage.)
Those white working class voters that seemingly half the reporters in America were going on about, just two weeks ago? This is what Donald J. Trump thinks of them. In public. As "presidential" statement.
And the reason he's telling these specific workers that it's their own damn fault they lost their jobs to outsourcing is because the local union leader had unkind things to say about Donald Trump, which is all it takes for Donald J. Trump, soon to be president, to lose his fucking mind in public.
I have outlasted so many motherfucker's, it's legitimately a skill I can put on my resume.
