A Loose and Even Enjoyable Reading List to Help Explain How We Got Here

by Stassa Edwards on The Muse, shared by Aimée Lutkin to Jezebel

Since the November election of Donald Trump, the question “How did we get here?” has bounced around the internet and through print media. Despite the emerging genre of “this writer predicted Trump,” there is no single answer, no one text or prescient writer, there is no single book that predicted Trump’s election or…

kingjaffejoffer:

This poll is unreal lol

bit.ly/2lcqK0q

As someone who’s day job is LITERALLY ‘survey designer’ This is NOT a poll, it’s propaganda disguised as opinion taking. And it’s really easy to fudge their results by simply taking the survey and answering the opposite of the clear party lines lmao.

AHAHAHAHAH WHO DESIGNED THIS SURVEY ITS SO EASY TO FUDGE

you can leave answers in the ‘Other’ text form without having to actually click other

That means you can click other AND

AND!!!!!

You can mess with their text mining.

Text mining is a HUGE tool for surveys so if everyone put ‘Donald is a Dingus’ in as many ways  as possible:

  • Donald is a HUGE/GREAT/AMAZING embarassment to our country
  • Donald is SUPER full of bullshit
  • etc

it would fudge the hell out of their models and render this somehow more useless than it already is.

GUYS SPREAD THIS AND TAKE THE SURVEY :D

Oh, and there’s apparently no email verification (of course not)

It’s a static link.

What does this mean?

  1. No verification of constituents
  2. No removal of duplicates from the same email/IP/browser/etc

You can take the survey literally as many times as you want, and I suspect that you can use the same (FAKE) email as you want (i used yourname@noreply.com)

Takes you to a site to donate to the great orange when you submit.

Can’t WAIT to take this sucker to work on Monday.

“Spencer bashed journalists covering the 2016 presidential election, too. “One wonders if these people are people at all, or instead soulless golem,” Spencer said in a reference to a Jewish fable in a portion of his speech dedicated to criticizing both the media and Jews.He also used a Nazi-era propaganda term meaning “lying press” to describe reporters, citing “the mainstream media – or perhaps we should refer to them in the original German, lugenpresse.”

A Bear With A Box Is A Satisfied Bear

Important Bear News!!!
Crucial!

The first few minutes of this video might have you thinking that this big fella is no match for a simple cardboard box. There is a lot of confused pawing, and it’s hard not to think that maybe the bear would be better off spending his time on something else.

Watch: This new ad campaign addresses a problem queer couples know all too well: the fear of holding hands in public

It’s a feeling most queer people face at some point. Even if you’re out and completely comfortable with your sexuality, holding hands with a partner in public can still feel awkward and tense. Sometimes, it’s easier to just let go. That’s what the Australian campaign #HoldTight is about.

every single negative stereotype about women was dreamt up by men who were projecting. fight me about it.

“women can’t drive”

It is so well known that women are better and safer drivers than men that OUR CAR INSURANCE RATES ARE LOWER. Women get into fewer accidents, get fewer DUIs, and receive fewer speeding tickets than men.

“women never shut up”

Several scientific studies have shown that not only do men talk more than women, they also think that women have been talking for much longer than they actually have. Men interrupt and talk over women, dominate conversations, and still think women talk too much.

“women are shallow”

image

Lol next

“my wife is my ball and chain lmao”

Multiple studies have shown that marriage between men and women:
Increases male lifespan, decreases female lifespan
Decreases male depression rates, increases female depression rates
Decreases male stress levels, increases female stress levels
Increases male health and happiness, decreases female health and happiness
Increases a man’s chance of getting a raise or promotion, decreases a woman’s chances of getting a raise or promotion

“women are too emotional”

Men love to say this about women after hurting them, in order to shift the blame and dismiss their feelings in one go. In reality, women are taught to hold our tongues and control ourselves quite literally from birth. We’re taught to put men’s needs and wants ahead of our own emotions regardless of the personal cost. Men are taught to do more or less whatever the fuck they want to women. Men take their emotions out on women while women are expected to shove theirs down.

This is…actually the most beautiful and helpful advice, honestly.

I’ve watched my attending on this service ask patients on a daily basis, “what do you need?” and it’s beautiful. Especially on an inpatient psych ward they’re getting talked AT rather than TO or WITH a lot of the time, and sometimes what they need is actually something we can give them and it’s just… even if it’s a coloring book it’s something. It’s one tiny light in the dark. You’d be amazed how little light it takes to keep people going sometimes.

[closed captions: a letter by Victor Willis of the group, the Village People, to Neil R. Portnow, president of the National Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences (NARAS), now known as The Recording Academy. The RA holds the annual Grammy Awards]

February 16, 2017

Mr. Neil Portnow

OPEN LETTER

Dear Mr. Portnow:

My name is Victor Willis. I am the original lead singer of the Village People and writer of such iconic hits as, “Y.M.C.A.”, “Macho Man”, “In the Navy”, and “Go West”, along with my co-writer Jacques Morali. I’m also a voting member of the Recording Academy and I’m concerned that you are not being entirely candid about how the Grammy’s Album of the Year is decided. As you are already aware, the Grammys have a special committee to over-ride the voters. This committee was put in place after Lionel Richie’s album, “Can’t Slow Down” won the 1985 Grammys Album of the Year over Bruce Springsteen’s, “Born in the U.S.A.” Certain people (mostly white) were very upset about this and thought Springsteen should have won.

Soon thereafter, the Grammys instituted a special select committee t override the decision of Grammy voters in the event the select committee does not like who the Grammy voter has chosen for your top award.

Therefore, it seems you’re not being entirely candid when you suggest that Album of the Year is decided by Grammy voters, so, if we want more black awardees, join the Academy and vote. The truth of the matter is, Album of the Year as with a few other categories, is manipulated by the Grammys through this select committee and you know it. Simply put, if certain people at the Grammys don’t like who the voters have chosen, a Grammy committee will simple override the voters and subsequently select who they think should win. Like Adele, maybe?

Why won’t you reveal this secret committee to the public an exactly who’s on it? The question is how many African Americans are on that committee? You ought to come clean. And if there really is an issue of race, as some have suggested with respect to Album of the Year, could this select committee be the problem?

Best wishes,

Victor Willis
