American Apparel Dress, Vivienne Westwood Beret & Murua Boots in Harajuku
Taylor SwiftIs that a fucking fabric-and-bead dookie rope
Naomi is 22, and she caught our eye with her black and camouflage outfit.
She picked up her mesh dress from American Apparel and paired it with a resale camouflage jacket and graphic tights. Her tote is from Zucca and her platform boots are Murua. We also noticed her Vivienne Westwood beret, chunky chain necklace, earrings and metallic belt. Naomi told us that KTZ is her favorite brand.

Japanese Shironuri Artist Minori on the Street in Harajuku At Night
Taylor SwiftHELL YEAH
Minori is a well-known personality around the streets of Harajuku. Her amazing shiro-nuri looks are regularly featured in magazines, on Japanese television (here’s a clip with her and Kyary Pamyu Pamyu), and on her own website. We also created an exclusive photoshoot and video with Minori last year!
Minori’s outfits are created from her own imagination and put together with items that she makes (or re-makes) along with vintage and found pieces. When we ran into her in Harajuku this time, she was wearing a long pleated skirt with lots of textures and layering in her outfit. Check out the pics below and see for yourself.
In addition to her own website, Minori is active on Twitter, Tumblr & Facebook!

Emoda Fashion & Emoda x Tsuru Sandals vs. Resale Style & Dr. Martens in Harajuku
Taylor SwiftQuelle "Ghost World"
Akiho and Akiko are two 19-year-old students we recently met in Harajuku.
Akiho is the one with ombre hair, and she’s wearing a layered crop tops from Topshop and Forever21 with white Emoda shorts and blazer. She accessorized with an oversized pendant necklace and rings from Emoda and Forever21. Her bag is from the same brand. Her sandals are part of the Emoda x Tsuru collection, worn here with glitter socks. Emoda is Akiho’s favorite shop, but she also likes G.V.G.V. and Sister. She also told us that her favorite singer is Taylor Swift and that she’s on Twitter.
Akiko is the one with shorter, dark hair. She is wearing an outfit made mostly of resale items: a sweater, velvet leggings, a choker and a backpack. Her blue lace up boots are Dr. Martens, and her ring is Goocy. Akiko likes shopping at American Apparel, but also in thrift stores. She’s a fan of N’Shukugawa BOYS and is active on Twitter.

Homemade Tattoos (+How To)
Yeah, bad tattoos are basically a bummer, right? But they're also pretty much a rite of passage for bored and disenfranchised-feeling teenagers the world over. At least it was for about 95% of the people I know. Going to a reputable tattoo shop and getting a wizard or unicorn drilled into your lower back is totally fine, but nothing really takes the place of sitting around with a bunch of friends and some beers, enthusiastically taking turns poking each others' arms full of bad ideas-which actually is fun at any age.
Aqua Dip Dye vs Blue Hair & Gun Tights vs Flame Tights in Harajuku
Taylor SwiftIncred
Kimu and Amuco are two 18-year-old Bunka Fashion College students who we street snapped in Harajuku. You might remember them from previous snaps where Kimu’s hair was pink and Amuco was wearing “Celine Me Alone”.
Kimu – with a cute short blue/purple hairstyle – is wearing a graphic t-shirt with a super colorful top, sheer sleeves, a Galaxxxy “Cosmo” tiered skirt, flame tights from AvantGarde, and platform sneakers. Accessories include several tattoo necklaces, a headband, and a studded blue shoulder bag. Kimu is a fan of Galaxxxy and K-Pop music. Check her Twitter for more info.
Amuco – with aqua dip dye hair – is wearing a black net dress with a bustier top, gun tights from AvantGarde Harajuku and Tokyo Bopper platform shoes. Her accessories include flower hair ties, a heart earrings, a choker, a chain necklace, dice temporary tattoos, and a large HEM bag. Amuco is a fan of Big Bang and the Harajuku resale shop Pin Nap. Find her on Twitter!

FRESH STREAM: FUCK OFF DAD
Taylor SwiftGreat, horrible noise, and SUCH a good band name
It is often a sign of living, interesting music when a duo lauded as two of <insert city here> ‘s best improvisers meet in either the live setting or on record. There are exceptions to this line of thinking (no one is going to wet their pants over the notion of say Derry, NH’s two best improvisers coming together. Sorry Derry, it had to be somewhere. And sorry to Derry’s improviser’s, I am ignorant of your scene and yes there is the possibility that it rips) but most of the time something interesting will come out of such sonic get togethers. FUCK OFF DAD is two of Calgary’s best improvisers throwing down in the same room together, and…for goodness sake this is a screamer, a mild melt, a bombastic display of dexterity handing itself over to the squelch side. FUCK OFF DAD tear at your ears having clearly attended the same melting parish as KEIJI HAINO, living somewhere in the community near where your favorite 90s no wavers went furthest off the tracks. A drums and guitar duo, Eric Hamelin and Eddie Dalrymple have pushed themselves over the cliff with this 6 track album of generally blasted and mean tugging and pulling and face smashing improv noise rock. All sorts of strange sounds bubble up throughout this listen. And it’s not ear saws the whole way through (though it mostly is) as the pair get down to ambient minimalism on the second to last track, and tackle cleaner bouts of fried sounds at times as well. If duo guitar and drum rampages followed and their inevitable counterpart, the meltdown, are the kind of noises you enjoy putting between the noggin from time to time then you no doubt have something fresh in this self titled album to deal with. Deal with it from UNIT STRUCTURE SOUND RECORDINGS.

FRESH VID: QUILT – OPEN EYES
Taylor SwiftATTN: ALLIE
Let down your hair, let that late spring breeze blow through you, and behold the video for
‘Open Eyes,’ the new single from Boston’s psych rock sweethearts QUILT. A stark, black and white affair filmed by Kim and Luis Arnias, the video revels in surreal shadowplay, an apt visual metaphor for the 3 piece’s dreamy reverb-filled music. Much like their excellent eponymous LP, Open Eyes is a swirling, topsy-turvy affair, with languid sunshine harmonies alternating with driving pop hooks and driving krautrock-charged grooves. The track is part of New Hampshire Freaks split with likeminded flower children MMOSS. Get it now from Beyond Beyond is Beyond Records and look out for a new full length from Quilt this fall.

HTC One Back Template for DIY Case Artwork
Taylor SwiftShared EXPLICITLY for the final photo and paragraph.
Note: I make no guarantees about the applicability of this template to your own case. It worked for me and I hope you find it useful, as well. The biggest potential issue would be with the cutaways for the power and volume buttons, which are pretty large on my case, but it should be easy to remove them if your case doesn't have them.
Here's how it looks when it's all finished:
Sorry about the weird picture. I didn't have another camera on hand, and there weren't any good mirrors at work, so I had to just use the reflection from an old hard drive platter...
EDIT: Here's a slightly better picture:
Did You Know? People Used to Marry Pokémon All the Time
Taylor SwiftO________________o
A reader by the name of Ed brought up an interesting topic recently – there are some old folk tales you can read about in the Canalave Library in Pokemon Diamond/Pearl & Platinum, and one touches briefly on humans and the origin of Pokemon:
Japanese release | English release |
So the question I was asked was: Is that what the original Japanese version says? People say it was changed in the English localization… was it?
Well, here’s a look at the text side-by-side!
Japanese Text | Literal Translation | Official English Release |
「シンオウ むかしばなし その3」 | “Sinnoh Folk Story 3″ | “Sinnoh Folk Story 3″ |
ひとと けっこんした ポケモンがいた | There once were Pokémon that married people. | There once were Pokémon that became very close to humans. |
ポケモンと けっこんした ひとがいた | There once were people who married Pokémon. | There once were humans and Pokémon that ate together at the same table. |
むかしは ひとも ポケモンも おなじだったから ふつうのことだった | This was a normal thing because long ago people and Pokémon were the same. | It was a time when there existed no differences to distinguish the two. |
So there was definitely a localization change there – the English version takes out the idea that Pokemon and humans used to marry each other. The last line of the translation also sort of deflects the idea that it was a normal occurence because they used to be the same.
Some fans think this may have been changed so as not to conflict with conservative views in America concerning marriage and human evolution and all that. I suppose that’s possible, but since evolution is such a major aspect of the Pokemon franchise I’m not sure about that part so much.
I’m not nearly as knowledgeable about Pokemon as a lot of other people, so I can’t really speculate much on this much – but if you have any thoughts or extra insight though, please let me know in the comments!
Also, if there are any specific lines in other games you’d like me to take a look at sometime, let me know in the comments too or contact me!
FRESH STREAM: IMAGINARY PANTS
Taylor Swift<3
Rose Melberg needs little introduction to anyone who has been interested in the world of indie pop music sometime in the 2 decades. Her time spent in monumentally wonderful musical crews such as TIGER TRAP and THE SOFTIES has essentially made her a legend in circles that get down with K RECORDS and SLUMBERLAND RECORDS. I am indeed a fan and was lucky enough to have hosted a show for Rose previously as part of the North East Stick Together festivals I was involved with putting on in the mid-00s. Rose’s current pop unit is known as IMAGINARY PANTS and it finds her playing and singing in a duo with John Manning. She hasn’t traveled far from the sounds that gained her a cult following and we all thank goodness for that. A 7″ that you can listen to below comes out in mid-June on Long Island’s ROK LOK RECORDS. “Channels” is a beautiful melancholy strummer that allows the duo’s melody to float along just above the ground as a wandering synth attempts to hide behind the sparse arrangement. IMAGINARY PANTS comes all the way from Vancouver, BC Canada just for you to play a great show full of great indie and pop bands this saturday 6/16 @ Lilypad in Cambridge! We’re putting on the show with our great friends @ RIDE THE SNAKE RECORDS and we can’t wait. Can you? Don’t forget to also check out a new tape from this pair out on LOST SOUNDS TAPES.

The Swapper
Taylor SwiftI am also so sick of puzzle platformers that I gave this a complete pass until now. BUT, UH... WOW....? WOW.
I have to admit, I’m not the biggest fan of puzzle platformers (or even puzzle games, to be honest), but when they’re good, they’re good. With The Swapper, Finnish studio Facepalm Games has not only uncovered a fun new mechanic but also crafted an extremely intriguing science fiction tale around it. Though the central themes may not be completely original to sci-fi, the way they come into focus as you solve puzzles and explore the beautiful claymation world is deftly executed. This is a great example of how to tell a story with a challenging game.

FRESH VID: Stygian Stride – “Drift”
I’m sitting across from my father, listening to the new Stygian Stride, when he asks me what I’m working on. I tell him about this immanent posting, and describe the music to him – “dark, pulsing, droning synth.” Clear as day, he responds, “Well, that sounds like the soundtrack to a mysterious crime film to me.”
——–
Jimy SeiTang, of Psychic Ills and Rhyton, recently released his debut solo LP on Thrill Jockey. Self-styled Stygian Stride, the music evokes the name perfectly; a slow, purposeful stalk through the River Styx, guided only by SeiTang’s analog electronics and a perfectly organic sense of pace and texture.
——–
In the video below, for lead-off single “Drift,” my father’s word becomes film. A shrouded group glides through the murk of a New York night. A crate appears on the screen. Action begins. A crowbar, and a revelation: an enigmatic safe. As the drilling begins, the film ends. This denial allows SeiTang to leave viewers in the dark on Stygian Stride, and that’s exactly where we should be.
