teadrunktailor: Speaking of Sarah, there we are at Brooks...
Speaking of Sarah, there we are at Brooks Medieval Faire this past summer (she’s on the right, I’m on the left).
Notice the fit of the two different armours? I’m riding in loaner armour that was made for a person who has roughly +70lbs on me - therefore the cuirass and rerebraces (upper arms) are too big. You can see how I can’t bring my arms in close to my body whereas Sarah can get hers in a bit better. When this angle is too big, couching the lance becomes slightly harder. It also affects your riding to a small degree - when riding properly with both hands on the reins, you want to have your elbows close to your sides and a straight line from your elbow to the bit in the horse’s mouth. When you can’t close your arms, you’ve got to improvise a bit.
TL;DR - Having armour that fits you is hella rad. On that note, I’ll write a post this weekend about the upcoming 1470s project.

Grand Rapids home for sale has hidden 2,300-piece pipe organ
GRAND RAPIDS (WZZM) -- On a quiet street on the city's West Side is an unassuming home for sale with an unusual secret: a 2,300 piece pipe organ.
Driving down the road, you would have no idea the house contains more pipes than your average church organ. It is something that needs to be seen to believed -- or rather heard.
By the kitchen table is the pipe organ with three sets of keyboards, stacked on top of each other with foot pedals. When you turn it on, a giant blower it can be heard in the basement. The organ, however, is only the half of it.
A door in the back of the house reveals a room with hundreds of pipes of all sizes. Through another door there are even more pipes, some two-stories tall. In all, there are around 2,300 with each pipe providing a different musical note. The whole organ takes up more than one third of the house.
Realtor Mark Douglas is tasked with selling the unusual home. He posted a video of the pipe organ on Facebook which quickly spread virally.
He says Bill Tufts, the late owner of the home and the organ, recently passed away. Douglas says amazingly, "he couldn't play it, but he wanted an organ in his house so he had it put in."
"Guy VanderWageen and Don Haan of Haan Pipe Organ installed it. "He wanted a real pipe organ," explains VanderWageen. "It is something he wanted since he was a child and we got to help him fulfill that dream."
The organ was installed over five years and if it were to be built today, Haan says the price tag would be around $1,000,000.
Newswire: R.I.P. Static-X frontman Wayne Static
As confirmed by Blabbermouth.net, Static-X frontman Wayne Richard Wells—better known as Wayne Static—has died. He was 48. No other details have been officially released yet, but an Instagram post from Papa Roach’s Jacoby Shaddix suggests that the cause of death was a drug overdose.
Static-X released its debut album in 1999—the platinum-selling Wisconsin Death Trip—and quickly became one of the biggest bands of the nu-metal movement. However, with nu-metal being a relatively unpopular label to be stuck under as the ‘90s ended, the band often chose to describe itself as more of an industrial metal band, or—jokingly—“Evil Disco.” Static-X never again reached the level of popularity that it achieved on its first album, but the band would go on to release five more albums over the next 10 years, ending with 2009’s Cult Of Static.
After that, Static-X went on a ...

MARVEL COMICS IS GIVING JACK KIRBY A CREATOR CREDIT
By Chris Sims
Those of you who take a moment to read the credits pages of your weekly Marvel Comics may have noticed that there’s been a small change that started in this week’s batch: Jack Kirby is receiving a creator credit for characters and teams that he co-created.
The new credit comes only a few weeks after Marvel and the Kirby family reached an agreement that settled a lawsuit that lasted five years, just before the Supreme Court was set to announce whether it would hear the case. While the details of the settlement haven’t been released, giving Kirby a creator credit in the comics certainly seems to fit the joint statement released by both parties in September, which mentioned “advancing their shared goal of honoring Mr. Kirby’s significant role in Marvel’s history.”

B.C. First Nation to implement $17.22/hr living wage
A Vancouver Island First Nation is implementing a living-wage policy, boosting the pay for some of its workers by almost $7 an hour.
The Huu-ay-aht First Nation, located in the Barclay Sound region on the West Coast of Vancouver Island, says members of the executive council voted to implement policy last week.
Unlike a minimum wage, a living wage takes into account families’ needs to cover their basic expenses.
The minimum wage in B.C. is $10.25 per hour, but the Huu-ay-aht say they have calculated the living wage for Port Alberni at $17.22 per hour, or $33,579 annually.
The Huu-ay-aht say it will become the first in Canada to adopt such a policy and is following in the footsteps of the City of New Westminster, which implemented a similar policy in May 2010.
The First Nation is one of five Maa-nulth First Nations which implemented a modern-day treaty with the federal and provincial governments in 2011.
“The treaty has given us the ability to make decisions based on our values and goals, and implement those decisions in accordance with our own laws,” says Coun. Tom Mexsis Happynook. “The living-wage policy shows how the treaty gives us the ability to chart our own future.”
