‘Fake Geek Girl’ tees (for guys), Cypress and Suburbia designs

I get the message but this is like the definition of a problematic response

fake-geek-girl3

It’s been, oh, about six months since the last “fake geek girls” flare-up, but no matter when the next argument erupts, WeLoveFine.com has you covered.

Showcased in the T-shirt collection curated by writer Kelly Sue DeConnick are two designs made especially for (in her words) “Male-Type-Guy-Dudes.”

“Look. Here’s the deal: you’re not fooling anyone. We know you’re not Geek Girls. (Your unsightly stubble and Adam’s apples give you away.),” DeConnick writes. “It’s okay. We understand. Being a Geek Girl is a pretty fabulous thing. We get it and love you for your aspiration. But the thing is, you’re not a Geek Girl … because you’re a guy. So quit pretending and learn to love yourself for who you are.”

She goes on to provide step-by-step instructions for self-acceptance (spoilers: They involve buying one of the tees, wearing it to a convention and/or specialty shop). And best of all, DeConnick’s commission on purchases of the shirts goes to the Girls Leadership Institute.

Also worth highlighting are these T-shirts from Out of Step Arts featuring gorgeous designs by comics creators Toby Cypress and Liz Suburbia. They’ll debut in three weeks at HeroesCon in Charlotte, North Carolina, but you can pre-order them at a special price now. What’s more, Out of Step Arts is holding a Tumblr giveaway: Users who reblog this Tumblr post will be automatically entered for a chance to win one of the designs (of their choosing).

Dallas Cowboys LT Tyron Smith opens up about family financial nightmares

Dallas Cowboys LT Tyron Smith opens up about family financial nightmares:

As he recently told the Dallas Morning News, Smith agreed to pay his stepfather, Roy Pinkney, and his mother, Frankie Pinkney, a substantial sum of money in four installments to insure that they would want for nothing. But that wasn’t good enough for the Pinkneys, or some of Smith’s own siblings.

“There was a certain amount I agreed to give them, but it went way beyond that and I was just like, ‘I’m done,’” Smith said. “I feel like I shouldn’t have given them so much. There was nothing wrong with helping them out and making sure they were taken care of, but not something to where they live the same lifestyle as you.”

According to the Morning News story (and as we recalled on Shutdown Corner at the time), things got a lot worse when Smith tried to set some boundaries.

Last October, John Schorsch — Smith’s Dallas-based attorney at the time — said Smith’s “mom and/or the stepdad threatened the physical well-being of Tyron and the life of his girlfriend.” Smith filed a protective order against his parents last summer to keep them from having any contact with him. The order also prohibits contact from Smith’s parents through his siblings. During training camp last year in Oxnard, Calif., one of Smith’s brothers whom he said he hadn’t talked to “in a long time” showed up and had to be removed from the facility.

Six months ago, his attorney said, Smith discovered that his family had taken more than $1 million from him. “There was money missing, but I just don’t know where it went,” Smith said in the report. “There were times I would check my statements and it wouldn’t make sense and I hadn’t authorized it at all. I just felt betrayed and I was like, ‘Who can I trust?’”

Smith had been using a financial advisor recommended by his parents.

"As a first step in the process, Dr. Robertson stated that she should stop dwelling on the cheating...."

“As a first step in the process, Dr. Robertson stated that she should stop dwelling on the cheating. Next, he recommended that she remind herself of all the reasons she fell in love with him in the first place so that she might try to fall back in love with him all over again. Lastly, his point was that everyone is human and there is much temptation outside of the home, so she should do whatever she can to strengthen their home and relationship. His intent was not to condone infidelity or to cast blame. We regret any misunderstanding.”

TV: Newswire: HBO orders Mike Judge's Silicon Valley to series

by Sean O'Neal

In great news for fans of Mike Judge and making Mike Judge get back to work inside fake technology companies, HBO has placed a series order for Silicon Valley, his single-camera comedy reunion with King Of The Hill’s John Altschuler and Dave Krinsky. As previously reported, the show stars comedian T.J. Miller, The Office’s Zach Woods, and Office-spinoff-almost-star Thomas Middleditch in the story “set in the high-tech gold rush of modern Silicon Valley, where the people most qualified to succeed are the least capable of handling success.” Such as, they’re geniuses at programming computers, but are dismayed to learn that other people don’t respond like computers, no matter how fervently they mash their faces with their fingers. No word yet on when Silicon Valley will premiere, but you can go ahead and cancel your plans to kidnap Mike Judge and imprison him in that ...

Mozilla Delays Default Third-Party Cookie Blocking In Firefox

by Soulskill
hypnosec writes "Mozilla is not going ahead with its plans to block third-party cookies by default in the Beta version of its upcoming Firefox 22. Mozilla needs more time to analyze the outcome of blocking these cookies. The non-profit organization released Firefox Aurora on April 5 with a patch by Jonathan Mayer built into it which would only allow cookies from those websites which the user has visited. The patch would block the ones from sites which hadn't been visited yet. The reason for Mozilla's change in plans is that they're currently looking into 'false positives.' If a user visits one part of a group of site, cookies from that part will be allowed, but cookies from related sites in the group may be blocked, and they're worried it will create a poor user experience. On the other side of the coin, there are 'false negatives.' Just because a user may have visited a particular site doesn't mean she is comfortable with the idea of being tracked."

Media laud Amtrak Wi-Fi upgrade - Patrick Gavin - POLITICO.com:

“The Wi-Fi NEVER works,” vents Washington Post reporter Chris Cillizza, a sentiment seconded by many. “Aside from being on a train when Joe Biden doesn’t realize he’s in the quiet car, the most annoying thing is the crappy Wi-Fi.”

Amtrak's WiFi Upgrade Allows More People to Complain About Amtrak WiFi - Alexander Abad-Santos - The Atlantic Wire

"I can't watch Doctor Who now. Why."

Amtrak's WiFi Upgrade Allows More People to Complain About Amtrak WiFi - Alexander Abad-Santos - The Atlantic Wire:

The reason you still won’t be able to stream Netflix, Hulu or Pandora this summer (or any time soon) is that streaming audio and video puts and a massive burden on the network and, with too many people watching movies at the same time, can bring down the entire wireless service.  ”Amtrak said, it would still restrict data-heavy activities that could slow the service down, like streaming video sites like Netflix and music sites like Pandora. The railroad also restricts file downloads larger than 10MB,” reported The New York Times’s Ron Nixon.

This may be sensible policy for trying to preserve connectivity on a moving object, but Amtrak passengers are still regularly annoyed that they can’t do the Internet stuff they normally do while sitting on a train. At this very minute there are people riding on Amtrak trains complaining on Twitter (probably through Amtrak’s WiFi) about being deprived of Netflix:
