are they fucking serious with this spacesuit design

I’ve never seen an outfit defeats its purpose so horribly.

If the next panel isn’t her literally exploding I am writing a strongly worded letter to their science consultant

Whuh? -_o  What’s the point of that spacesuit.

At this rate I might need to make a tag for bizarre spacesuits.

(sent my way by benchbench)

Not a battle outfit, but couldn’t pass reblogging it.

The most blatant example of “let’s show tits and bare skin while defeating the whole purpose of this costume!" logic.
BRAVO, Marvel, BRAVO!

I’m not sure if this already has been posted to RHA or not, but it needs to be seen. The biggest fail in character-design-history, I believe.

Paths, Passages and Spaces | Hans Dieter Schaal | Socks...

Paths, Passages and Spaces | Hans Dieter Schaal | Socks Studio

Hans Dieter Schaal (1943) is a German architect, stage designer, landscape designer, writer and artist. Throughout his whole career he constantly crossed the borders among the different disciplines to produce a unique corpus of works.

In his famous 1970′s black and white drawings, Schaal synthesized some of his researches on the continuous space, the relationship between natural settings and man-made structures, the path as a space for representation, always keeping an ironical eye. The repetition of a basic object, like a bed, a door, a curtain, a stairway, becomes the starting point for the construction of an imaginary field of possibilities.

Jim Harbaugh is reportedly 'wearing thin' on 49ers players

by Matt Verderame
firehose

lol

One of the most successful coaches in the league, Harbaugh seems to be running out of time to win in San Francisco.

San Francisco 49ers head coach Jim Harbaugh has been at the helm for three seasons. In those years, San Francisco has reached the NFC Championship game each time, including a Super Bowl trip in 2012. Yet, things don't appear well by the bay.

The Harbaugh-49ers divide
A rift between Jim Harbaugh and the 49ers may have been simmering for some time. Let's piece together the timeline.

The 49ers players, including some of the most prominent, are reportedly growing tired of Harbaugh, per the San Francisco Chronicle.

And from what I've been told, the tension isn't just upstairs in the building. One source with inside knowledge of the team says that Harbaugh's act has worn thin in the locker room, particularly among some key "face of the 49ers" type players. While the team is winning, that's not a problem. But a few losses could expose a widening rift.

All of this serves as the backdrop for the beginning of San Francisco's 2014 season. General manager Trent Baalke has proved one of the best personnel men in the business, bringing in Colin Kaepernick, NaVorro Bowman, Patrick Willis, Mike Iupati, and Harbaugh himself during his tenure. Still, the relationship between Baalke and the head coach seems contemptuous at best.

Perhaps even more telling is the reported problems with players. Nothing has ever surfaced on the sideline, but that might not tell the whole story. If the players really do have issues with Harbaugh, how long has it been going on for?

It's also fair to wonder which "face of the 49ers" have an issue with coach. Which side of the ball has the bigger problem? All of that talk is pure speculation, but it is certainly worth monitoring.

Also, does this hurt San Francisco this offseason? In a year when the 49ers are desperately trying to beat out the Seattle Seahawks in the arms race of the West, will free agents be worried about signing a long-term deal not knowing if Harbaugh has one foot out the door? If the free agent is being pursued by both Seattle and San Francisco, the harmony of the Great Northwest compared to the dysfunction in San Fran could be the difference.

Our latest mock draft

Will the Falcons pull off the biggest blockbuster trade of the draft to snag Jadeveon Clowney? The move makes too much sense, according to Matthew Fairburn.

Harbaugh signed a five-year deal when he came to the 49ers, landing him in an interesting position currently. With only two years left, Harbaugh faces a potential win-now proposition. Should he suffer through a down year because of injury or otherwise, he could become an extremely hot commodity on the trade market next year.

If Jon Gruden, who also had a successful (but not as impressive) track record was traded for two first-round picks and two second-round picks, what is Harbaugh worth?

Should that scenario play out, it would be a brutal fate for 49ers fans. Before Harbaugh arrived, the team had failed to play in a conference title game since 1997. Harbaugh is the first coach since the AFL-NFL merger in 1970 to advance that deep in the first three years.

Yet Niners Nation isn't too worried about such media reports. After all, winning cures everything:

Clashes are to be expected anywhere there is more than one person in the same place. Even husbands and wives who are in love and live under the same roof will have terrible arguments. The key question to ask is: Are both parties are still achieving the purpose for which they came together? The answer in the case of the 49ers is: they are still winning, and that is what's going to keep Jim Harbaugh in San Francisco. I don't see him as any more difficult to deal with than Bill Walsh was during his tenure and we all know his track record. So am I worried that Jim Harbaugh or Trent Baalke will leave because of all the reports in the media? Not one bit.

Comcast subscriber spinoff could create a new cable company

by Jon Brodkin
firehose

'it did not say which territories it would give up'

Comcast's plan to divest itself of 3 million subscribers, which it hopes will help it win approval of a merger with Time Warner Cable, could result in the creation of a new cable company.

Rather than selling off territories to existing cable companies, Comcast is considering an option to "[spin] them off in a new publicly traded company," Bloomberg reported, citing anonymous sources."Regulators may push for the spin-out because it would create a new competitor," Bloomberg wrote. "A new company formed in such a way would be the fourth-largest US cable company by subscribers, trailing the merged Comcast-Time Warner Cable, Cox Communications Inc,. and Charter Communications Inc."

Creating a new company with those customers wouldn't result in more choices for consumers in individual markets. Despite being the two largest cable companies in the US, Comcast and Time Warner Cable don't compete against each other in any regional territory.

MtGox code posted by hackers as company files for bankruptcy protection

by Sean Gallagher
Cross Office Shibuya Medio, the office building in Tokyo that is home to MtGox and Mark Karpeles' other companies.

As MtGox CEO Mark Karpeles and his lawyers officially filed for court-supervised restructuring of the Bitcoin exchange, someone posted a chunk of code to Pastebin that would appear to lend credence to Karpeles’ contention that his company was hacked. The block of PHP code appears to be part of the backend for MtGox’s Bitcoin exchange site, and it includes references to IP addresses registered to Karpeles’ Web hosting and consulting company, Tibanne.

In an update to the MtGox website late Monday, the company reasserted its claim that it had been hacked through an exploit of a weakness in its exchange website code. “Although the complete extent is not yet known, we found that approximately 750,000 bitcoins deposited by users and approximately 100,000 bitcoins belonging to us had disappeared,” the company’s spokesperson said in the latest update at the MtGox website. “We believe that there is a high probability that these bitcoins were stolen as a result of an abuse of this bug and we have asked an expert to look at the possibility of a criminal complaint and undertake proper procedures.”

That loss was discovered on February 24. On the same day, the company found “large discrepancies between the amount of cash held in financial institutions and the amount deposited from our users. The amounts are still under investigation and may vary, but they approximate JPY 2.8 billion [$27 million US].”

"I will not perform in this city as long as the blatant targeting of black culture and minorities congregating is acceptable common practice."

firehose

http://www.wweek.com/portland/blog-31322-illmaculate_declares_i_will_not_perform_in_this_city_after_police_swarm_the_blue_monk.html

Last year, in a piece published by Vice titled "Portland Has a Hip-Hop Problem," Poe commented on the effect police harassment has had on Portland's rap community.

“City ordained dress codes made to target minorities and the culture, pressure for extra permits or police presence to throw hip-hop events (that wouldn't be a prerequisite for any other genre of music), all make it unfeasible for promoters to bring in national acts or festivals, ultimately creating an atmosphere that minimizes the supply of hip-hop and of course, over time, the demand follows suit."

Similarly, Luck-One, who moved to New York in December, told Willamette Week that his relocation was partially due to the attitude of city authorities toward hip-hop: "I personally am not interested in trying to make any more of a name in a city so racist the police are sent out to every rap show to terrorize concertgoers in an attempt to re-create the city in the image of a cable TV satire."

A Backstage Pass to Hidden London

by MessyNessy
firehose

via Tadeu: "Bioshock Infinity + Daleks"

I lived in London for twenty-five years and never got to see the inside of the 1930s decommissioned Battersea Power Station. Nobody does! But the guy that took this picture (above), Peter Dazeley– he even got them to switch on the control room’s art deco lights for him. And it turns out, getting this kind of access wasn’t just a lucky coincidence. Peter Dazeley gets a backstage pass to hidden places all over London, because it’s his job. Veteran photographer, born and bred Londoner, Dazeley’s ongoing project “Hidden London” is about recording unseen, historic London buildings, their architecture and interiors as they stand in the 21st century. It’s an ongoing project that will soon be on show in both an exhibition and a book. For now, we get a little sneak peak of a selection of his discoveries so far, which he uploads onto his website and Twitter. So grab that backstage pass that Peter has so kindly offered us and let’s see his hidden London…

P.S. Most of the photograph’s locations were not identified, so I had to do a little digging of my own. If you have any fun facts about these hidden places, add them in the comments!

Inside the Battersea Power Station

The Whitechapel Bell Foundry, makers of the Big Ben and the Liberty Bell.

Henry VIII Wine Cellar under the Ministry of Defence. Perfectly preserved, this stone-ribbed, brick-vaulted undercroft was built in the early 1500s, more information here

The main pump room of Crossness Pumping Station. The Beam Engine House is a Grade 1 Listed Industrial Building constructed in the Romanesque style and features some of the most spectacular ornamental Victorian cast ironwork to be found today.

The old operating theatre at St. Thomas’ Hospital

Aldwych Station disused platform. Opened in 1907, served by a shuttle train for most of their life and suffering from low passenger numbers, the station and branch were considered for closure several times. A weekday peak hours-only service survived until closure in 1994, when the cost of replacing the lifts was considered too high compared to the income generated. Disused parts of the station and the running tunnels were used during both World Wars to shelter artworks from London’s public galleries and museums from bombing.

Queens Club “real tennis” courts, (real tennis refers to the original racquet sport from which the modern game of lawn tennis is descended).

Sound Effects Drama Studio at the BBC Television Centre in White City

Transmitter Hall at the BBC Broadcasting House, Portland Place

The original Abbey Mills Pumping Station, in Abbey Lane, London E15, is a sewage pumping station, designed by engineer Joseph Bazalgette, Edmund Cooper, and architect Charles Driver. It was built between 1865 and 1868.

The Smithfield clock of Citigen Power Station. The buildings of Smithfield Market stand on top of a warren of tunnels: previously, live animals were brought to the market on the hoof (from the mid-19th century onwards they arrived by rail) and were slaughtered on site. The former railway tunnels are now used for storage, parking and as basements.

The Citigen cogeneration Power Station is now sited deep underground Charterhouse Street, converted from Smithfield Market’s former cold store. During World War II, it also served as the theatre of secret experiments led by Max Perutz on pykrete, a mixture of ice and woodpulp, alleged to be tougher than steel. The experiments were carried out by Perutz and his colleagues in a refrigerated meat locker in a Smithfield Market butcher’s basement, behind a protective screen of frozen animal carcasses. These experiments became obsolete with the development of longer range aircraft and the project was soon abandoned. An impressive cobbled ramp spirals down around the public park now known as West Smithfield, on the south side of the market, to give access to part of this area. Some of the buildings on Charterhouse Street on the north side have access into the tunnels from their basements. Since 2005, the General Market (1883) and the adjacent Fish Market and Red House buildings (1898), part of the Victorian complex of the Smithfield Market, have been facing a threat of demolition.

Inside the HMS Belfast at the Imperial War Museum

The Gate Cinema, Notting Hill

The Great Hall at the Royal Hospital Chelsea

The Wimbledon Windmill Museum

The London Metal Exchange, Aldgate

Bibendum Restaurant, South Kensington, former headquarters and tyre depot of Michelin. the building has three large stained-glass windows based on Michelin advertisements of the time, all featuring the Michelin Man “Bibendum”. Around the front of the original building at street level there are a number of decorative tiles showing famous racing cars of the time that used Michelin tyres. More tiles can be found inside the front of the building, which was originally a tyre-fitting bay for passing motorists.

Spike Jonze wins best screenplay Oscar for 'Her'

by Kwame Opam

Her director Spike Jonze took home his first Academy Award tonight for best original screenplay. The film bested such contenders as David O. Russell's American Hustle and Woody Allen's Blue Jasmine, but was long a favorite for the Oscar.

Her won heaps of praise this year for its thoughtful, shockingly intimate treatment of romance with an operating system that resonated with audiences. The film is also up for Best Picture, though it faces stiff competition from Gravity.
