The space-time continuum in carpet-format
A games shop in Paris embraced the rubber-sheet metaphor of space-time to guide their interior design. The illusion is so convincing I can imagine shoppers occasionally stumble when their eyes and feet disagree about where exactly to expect the floor.

WHATTTTTTT

Is this true????
This is all over my asks, so I’m going to respond ONE TIME:
I have no clue. I’m not keeping anything from you, I promise.
I don’t work on the movie side, I have nothing to do with the movies, I wouldn’t know either way.
If it’s true, AWESOME! Yay! Can’t wait. I just saw CAPTAIN AMERICA 2 and it was INCREDIBLE.
But you know, until the ACTUAL STUDIO says something…? It’s just gossip. I wouldn’t go getting my heart set on it.
But hey — on the upside? The takeaway is this: Carol’s now got the kind of profile now where people gossip about her to drum up excitement.
…That’s a win.

Pikachu is Japan's official mascot for the FIFA 2014 World Cup Brazil
Japan's national soccer team has adopted Pikachu — arguably Pokemon's best-known character — as its mascot for the 2014 FIFA World Cup Brazil, as detailed by both Adidas and The Pokemon Company's official Japanese websites.
The partnership is part of Adidas' "Engine Project," which encourages players in uniform to act as a single "engine" and foster unity. Part of the promotion features the iconic character and pokemon friends decked out in the team's official jersey.
The 2014 FIFA World Cup Brazil will take place from June 12 - July 13.

Indieweb and Feeds
firehose'Don't bother consuming ATOM or RSS, it's so problematic and fragile as to not be worth hassling with.
...
Instead, directly consume visible posts marked up with h-entry using an open source microformats2 parsers. Such h-entry consumption is already a building block for various indieweb user features such as reply-contexts and comments syndication and thus tends to be more reliable (more user-facing feedback loops).'
If this article about feeds on the IndieWeb wiki represents their philosophy, then their name is wrong — they’re not about independence, because feeds give us independence.
The article criticizes RSS and Atom for a few reasons, and those reasons are easy enough to swat away that I leave that as an exercise for the reader.
What gets me is where it notes some shutdowns: Google Reader, Apple removing RSS from Mail and Safari, Twitter removing feeds, etc.
For every shutdown of RSS feeds by a big company, an indie product such as Feedly, NewsBlur, Feed Wrangler, FeedPress, and Unread shows up.
RSS is at its most interesting and useful when big companies ignore it. It’s the domain of indie developers.

ABOUT THE RECENT EVENTS CONCERNING YOUTUBE
firehosequick recap: the list of men who are fandom artists/musicians accused of or found to be abusive toward fans keeps growing (more than half of them now fronting acts in Moffat fandoms)
add Tom Milsom (Who/Potter fandom musician; coercive relationship with a 15-yo) to the gang of DFTBA assholes (Mike Lombardo, Who fandom, admitted a abusive relationship with a fan; Alex Day, admitted to coercing sex after denying it) and Josh Macedo (Night Vale fandom, 15-yo fan says he sent explicit images and messages to her).
Many of you already know about some of the recent events concerning various YouTube performers and allegations of sexual misconduct. When I read about this (and it seems to come and come right now), I thought, “I have nothing to add to this.” So I just watched. And was sad. And also heartened by…
You should all read what Maureen has to say here.
Adding something in passing, so people shouldn’t think Maureen is overstating the commonality of this experience for those of us who are both young and female. Have I been masturbated at by guys in cars? Oh yeah. I never talked to anybody in my grade it hadn’t happened to. First time it happened to me was when I was walking with a friend. Guy was “asking for directions”. My friend and I (a) gave him the most crap directions we could immediately think of — took a second, we were ten, so that makes this 1962 — and (b) scurried away whispering “That’s a penis? It’s the ugliest thing on Earth, I am never touching one of those when I grow up.” …Groped in the (NY) subway? Yeah, though not without collateral damage to the gropers (I had at that point been studying iaido for some months and did not need a bokken or a broomstick to do significant damage if annoyed. High heels are a wonderful weapon). Had guys try to dope my drink? Sure. Fortunately I even then knew more of the tricks than they did, having been trained by experts. Hasn’t happened for a decade or so, but I keep a careful eye on my drinks while out and about. There are predators out there who prefer older women.
…There’s more, but this should not be about me. Damn it, it’s time we were listened to about this shit.

QuiQui Announces Upcoming Drone Delivery Service of Pharmacy Items in San Francisco’s Mission District
firehose'QuiQui founder and self-described “subversive marketer”'
Residents of San Francisco’s Mission neighborhood will soon be able to have pharmacy items delivered by aerial drone, or so claims Mission-based startup QuiQui (“Quicky.”) According to the company, it will soon have a fleet of drones on standby to pick up small pharmacy items and deliver them to the customer’s location in about 15 minutes. Once on location, the drone will hover at a height of 20 feet and drop the item to the customer below. QuiQui founder and self-described “subversive marketer” Joshua Ziering recently spoke to the San Francisco Chronicle about the startup. Ziering says the service hopes to launch in July 2014.
