Savage Love sexpert and TV producer Dan Savage makes a great point about the upcoming Logo Bachelor clone, Finding Prince Charming, set to premiere this week.
The “scarcity formula” used by ABC for its competition among heterosexuals (“an imbalance between supply of pussy/cock and demand for pussy/cock,” as Savage, puts it) makes no sense in a gay context in which men would be likely to run off with each other instead of the bachelor (and just might).
As Savage notes, Funny or Die diagnosed the problem in 2013, but offered no solution:
Logo appears to just be trying to clone the hetero version with no vision of how much more interesting the show could be.
Savage puts forth some excellent new scarcity formulas the show could use to help it work in a gay context:
Just cast one exclusive gay top as your bachelor and thirteen gay power bottoms as your suitors. Or vice-versa. That’s all it would take.
But if you really wanted to have some fun with the intricacies and subcultures of gay male desire…
Cast a hunky older bear as the bachelor and thirteen skinny twinks who are exclusively attracted to hunky older bears as his suitors. Or vice-versa. Or cast a hot leather/BDSM Master as the bachelor and thirteen leather/BDSM slaves as his suitors. Or vice-versa. (No switches!) Or cast one skinny guy into big guys as the bachelor and thirteen big guys into skinny guys as his suitors. Or vice-versa.
Added bonus: Gay people know these complications exist, straight people are fascinated by them, and including/mining them would make for a crazier, more informed, and interesting show.
Without some other form of scarcity, without creating a different supply and demand problem, there’s nothing to prevent the suitors on Finding Prince Charming from running off with each other or (more likely) winding up in a writhing heap on the lawn. Unless the suitors are all sexually incompatible in a fundamental and insurmountable way and the “star” gay bachelor is their only sexual/romantic counterpart—the gay suitors are all pots, the gay bachelor is the only lid.

Logo’s ‘gay Bachelor’, Robert Sepulveda Jr., addressed his past as a male escort in a new interview.
As we’ve reported, Sepulveda is set to be the centerpiece of Finding Prince Charming, which follows a bevy of gay suitors vying for Sepulveda’s heart. Sepulveda, along with Finding Prince Charming host Lance Bass, sat down with The Huffington Post’s Noah Michelson to talk about the rumors that he worked as an escort.
“The past is the past,” Sepulveda said. “I was young and it helped through college. But what I want people to focus on is who I am today as an entrepreneur, as an activist. I started a non-profit and, you know, focusing on the show. That’s really what I want people to focus on.”
Bass quipped, “We all have our past. I was in a boy band. I’ll admit it.”
Michelson provided a personal note on Sepulveda’s past sex work, saying, “I think, personally, there’s something sort of great about that though…[that this show] is not just heteronormative.”
Sepulveda also commented that being on the show allowed both him and the suitors to confront guilt and shame they have felt around various issues in their lives. “The show allowed me as well to close a lot of chapters in my life that I felt a lot of guilt around, a lot of shame and a lot of things I thought I couldn’t share and express,” he said.
Sepulveda also explained what he considers to be the definition of a ‘Prince Charming.’ “Being understanding and accepting, that to me is a Prince Charming,” Sepulveda added.
Rumors about Sepulveda’s past began to circulate last week after a Towleroad commenter suggested that Sepulveda once had profiles on Rentboy.com and daddyreviews.com. Another report (extremely work-unfriendly) suggested he also had a profile on Rentmen and went by the aliases Vincent Roman and JordanAthleteTen.
Towleroad commenter “Stno” then wrote,
“Robert Sepulveda also known as rentboy Vincent Romen (2006-2012). Was according to several (very trusted) clients on www.daddyreviews.com and rentboy.com known for having racist (no melanin) preferences. The non white contestants in this gay Bachelor edition are only PR added to make him seem not racist.

Kenneth Walsh pointed out that a now-defunct website called PartyWithBrandon had very work-unfriendly photos allegedly of Sepulveda from the time when he was supposedly working as an escort. The site also features reviews from his Rentboy page. The reviews all date back to 2006.
In the past week, graphic videos (again, very work-unfriendly) purporting to show Sepulveda have also emerged.

America’s Next Top Model and Dancing With The Stars winner Nyle DiMarco wants to help you learn sign-language.
The hunky model will be teaching mini-lessons on American Sign Language (ASL) in weekly videos posted on Instagram stories. To give you extra motivation to learn ASL, it seems that DiMarco will be teaching the classes shirtless.

A man claiming to be Orlando shooter Omar Mateen’s lover has come forward and would only agree to an interview in disguise, says the two men met on Grindr, and told Univision that the Orlando massacre was revenge, not terrorism, and that Mateen bore grudges against the Latino men he met there for using him, Univision reports:
“I’ve cried like you have no idea. But the thing that makes me want to tell the truth is that he didn’t do it for terrorism. In my opinion he did it for revenge,” he told Univision Noticias anchor Maria Elena Salinas in an exclusive interview in English and Spanish on Tuesday.
He said Mateen was angry and upset after a man he had sex with later revealed he was infected with the HIV virus.
Asked why he decided to come forward with his story, he said: “It’s my responsibility as a citizen of the United States and a gay man.”
The man said he had approached the FBI and been interviewed three times in person by agents. Univision was unable to independently verify his account. The FBI confirmed to Univision that it had met with him.

“Miguel” claims that Mateen was “cuddly”, was against the U.S. war on terror, and believed that his marriage was a “smoke screen” to hide his homosexuality. Miguel claimed the two met at Parliament House, another gay club, and were “friends with benefits”, meeting 15-20 times, the latest in December.
Univision adds:
He said he believed Mateen’s second wife knew he frequented gay bars and that his marriage was a smoke screen to hide that he was “100 percent” gay.
“He adored Latinos, gay Latinos, with brown skin – but he felt rejected. He felt used by them – there were moments in the Pulse nightclub that made him feel really bad. Guys used him. That really affected him,” Miguel said. “I believe this crazy horrible thing he did – that was revenge.”
Mateen expressed frustration over his father’s extreme views on homosexuality, which included a belief that “gay people [are] the devil and gay people have to die,” Miguel said.
Miguel said Mateen undertook the massacre as revenge for rejection by gay Puerto Ricans and anger that he had been exposed to HIV:
“When I asked him what he was going to do now, his answer was ‘I’m going to make them pay for what they did to me.'”

A gay couple who were killed at Pulse nightclub in Orlando, Florida on Sunday will be buried together according to their families.
Juan Ramon Guerrero (22) and his boyfriend, Christopher “Drew” Leinonen (32), wanted to get married according to their families. That right was forever denied to them when they were slain in the worst mass shooting in American history that was also the worst terrorist act on U.S. soil since 9/11 and the single deadliest anti-LGBT hate crime to ever happen in the U.S.
Services still need to be planned by the reeling families, but they want the two to be side-by-side when loved ones bid farewell, said Guerrero’s father, who has the same name as his son.
“I think my son wanted to do that. That’s why,” the elder Juan Ramon Guerrero, 61, said through tears. “I don’t care what the people think. I don’t care.”
The younger Guerrero and his boyfriend lived together and had been dating for nearly two years, family members said. Guerrero’s family was “really loving and accepting” when he came out as gay to them about three years ago, Aryam Guerrero, the victim’s 24-year-old sister, told TIME.
“They were honestly so in love. They were soul mates. You can tell by how they looked at each other,” she said. “It’s a little comforting that they died together.”
“If it’s not a funeral, they were going to have a wedding together,” she added.
Guerrero’s family says it was Leinonen’s mother, Christine Leinonen, who suggested that they should be buried together. Leinonen’s body was not identified until later in the day Monday, leading Christine Leinonen to agonize over her son’s fate.
Guerrero was one of the first victims identified by police. When Guerrero’s family arrived at the hospital in Orlando just blocks from Pulse after the shooting, they found his name on a list of victims and were told by hospital staff and the FBI that he had died. Aryam Guerrero recalls the devastating moment her family got the news: The moment I heard my mom yell out, we all knew. I just kept saying, ‘This isn’t real.’ I just didn’t want it to be real.”
Guerrero was about to turn 23.
