On April 22, 2013, the Century Chest, a time capsule that had been sealed for 100 years, was opened during a ceremony at the First Lutheran Church of Oklahoma City. Onlookers and historians were astonished by the pristine condition of the contents: an untarnished desk telephone, a shiny pair of women’s shoes, a Kodak camera, and much more. The Century Chest was originally buried under the church on April 22, 1913 as part of fundraiser to pay for a church organ (the organ is still in use). The opening ceremony was captured on video for posterity. The actual opening occurs at the 1:10 mark. For photos of the contents, check out this gallery on the Downtown OKC Facebook page.
In this clip from BBC’s Africa, a group of springbok — small antelopes from southwestern Africa — engage in the behavior known as pronking, which means to boast or show off. When pronking, the springbok jumps off the ground with all four feet simultaneously and holds its legs mostly stiff with its back arched and head pointing downward. Though the BBC says we’re not exactly sure why springbok pronk, several explanations include as a way to discourage predators, as a mating ritual, or simply out of excitement.
Oliver Burton's dying wish was to visit Buckingham Palace and have afternoon tea with the Queen.
Unfortunately, Her Royal Highness was unable to fit the 10-year-old into her busy schedule of waving at crowds from afar — so understudy Dame Helen Mirren stepped in to take her place.
Oliver, who has Down's syndrome, has been battling various forms of cancer almost his entire life, and was recently diagnosed with terminal spine and bone marrow cancer.
But last week, for a brief wondrous afternoon, his troubles took a backseat to a meeting with the One True Queen.
Still dressed as the Queen, she then invited Oliver backstage to have tea and cakes (served by footmen!) and meet her corgis.
Mirren even took the time to knight Oliver, giving him the official title of Sir.
"She stayed in character for the whole thing. Oliver thought she was the real Queen, and well, that's good enough for us," Oliver's father James Browne is quoted as saying.
"It was a pleasure and a privilege to meet such a brave young man," Mirren later told The Sun.
Finish eating your soup and save the best bite for last: the one where you chomp right into the utensil you are using to scoop it up.
We have silverware for eating at home (though even that requires washing) and plastic tableware for events and travel, but this solution is environmentally friendly in either context. TriangleTree proposes three flavors of this edible design – plain, spicy or sweet – to match various meals as needed.
“The Eco-spoon removes the need for non-biodegradable disposable plastic spoons. It is 100% natural, made entirely of corn. It is 100% biodegradable. And 100% edible. And 100% good for you and the environment …. It’s tasty, it’s healthy, it’s convenient, and it promotes a cleaner tomorrow. The spoons could be purchased in supermarkets for home use. They could also be served alongside appetizers and meals at restaurants.”
The only real question (aside from the taste itself) is one of consistency and absorbency – strike the right balance and your soup would hopefully not soften the spoon too soon, but would soak in the flavors for that final bite.

On Tuesday morning, a man driving on the Baltimore Beltway ran out of gas. So he did what anyone would do: He pulled over to the shoulder of I-695, set up his drum kit, and began to play until help arrived.
According to the Baltimore Sun, Maryland state troopers eventually spotted the drummer and pulled over to investigate. He told the troopers he'd decided to kill the time by practicing. The troopers bought the man's story, called a State Highway Administration truck to refill his tank, and then sent him on his way without issuing a citation.
A police spokesperson didn't identify the mystery drummer.

Some have suggested that the photo was staged, but others have noted that a uniform blast of mud is clearly visible on the left side of the pins, making it highly likely that this is simply a freak of nature.

Is there a more evil prank to pull on children than to tell them school has been canceled, only to reveal moments later that, in fact, it has not? No, there isn't.
Which is exactly why one unidentified bus driver decided to pull that very same prank on the kids in his care this past April Fool's Day.
Telling the children a water main break has forced their school to close, giving them an extra day of Spring Break, the driver sent the bus into upheaval, with screeches of glee that damn near forced the vehicle off a cliff.
Eventually, one of the nerdier students sussed out what day it was, and the screams of delight were quickly replaced with screams of anguish and very deserving cries of "I hate you."
It's unclear why it took nearly two months for the video to be uploaded to YouTube, but my guess is that it took the driver this long to get the kids to calm down.
Rhode Island School of Design industrial design student Seulbi Kim has created the Togo Burger, an innovative folding cardboard device to hold fast food with one hand.
People nowadays tend to more rely on having take-out food because their eating habit has changed due to their busy life. However, despite the fact that a number of take-out containers have been designed, packages for take-out burger meal are not really developed so far.
Therefore, this package is designed to provide a more convenient way of take-out for fast food industry as well as its customers by designing handy carrier for take-out burger meal consisted of a burger, french-fries, and soda.
The carrier will reduce the volume by about 50% compared to that today because I tried to simplify the design and minimize the amount of paper used with a hook for French fries, a sleeve for a burger, and a hole for soda drink, which causes people to carry it easier, and more materials saving. It is one-handed, convenient, practical, and compact, so your hands can be more free by holding all in one.

A Kentucky man was arrested after having an all-night solo party inside a closed supermarket, where he heroically went through 57 cans of whipped cream. He was found inside the ceiling on Monday, and surveillance video revealed his feast of steak, shrimp and beer before the nitrous oxide called.
Employees of the ValuMarket in the Kentucky town of Mount Washington arrived to a harrowing scene of excess Monday morning, with the remains of six steaks and untold shrimps littering the aisles and a garbage can filled with discarded whipped cream canisters.
John Potter, a decorated World War II vet, just wants to keep living in the house he built himself over half a century ago. But if his daughter Janice Cottrill gets her way, the 91-year-old will be evicted from his Zaleski, Ohio home next month.
It all started in 2004, when Potter fell ill and he and his wife, since deceased, gave Cottrill power of attorney over their affairs, as well as over Joe, Potter's 63-year-old autistic son who had been living at home since birth.
In 2010, in a bid to end the legal challenges brought against them by Potter, the Cottrills used their power of attorney to transfer the deed to Potter's house to themselves.
Learning of this, Potter transferred the power of attorney to Cottrill's daughter, Jaclyn Fraley (above, left), and sued Cottrill for fraud.
Though a Vinton County Court ruled in Potter's favor, an appeals court overturned the decision, saying the four-year statute of limitations on fraud had expired.
Buoyed by victory, the Cottrills then proceeded to up the ante — ordering Potter out of the house.
Janice has refused to comment on the story, but Dean did tell WCMH the couple was willing to let Potter stay in his home if he stopped trying to take them to court over Joe.
Fraley, meanwhile, is attempting to keep Potter put by raising funds online in the hopes of buying the house from her mom and stepdad.
Through GoFundMe.com, Fraley has successfully raised over $40,000, but is still well short of her $125,000 goal.
Though she hasn't spoken to her mom in two years, Fraley is still willing to defend her actions.
"People have commented that my mother is 'evil', but I always say she's a human too," the 35-year-old told ABC News. "Do I think she deserves the money? No, but my grandfather deserves to stay in his home as long as he possibly can. If he wants to leave, it should be his decision."
The eviction hearing has been set for June 12th — almost exactly three weeks after Potter turns 92.
Earlier this week, residents of the Pukou district in Nanjing, China, noticed a foul-smelling foam-like substance creeping out of a crack in the street and started asking questions.
Like: What in holy Hell is that thing?
So far, no one has been able to provide locals with a straight answer — so they've taken to social networking sites to make up their own.
Immediately following the ooze's mysterious arrival, authorities arrived at the scene and cordoned off the area, ordering evacuations of nearby homes.
The substance soon retreated back into the street cracks from whence it came, leaving open the very real possibility that it was also sentient.

For his 2012 kinetic sculpture “The Music Box,” artist Dave Cole converted a 22,000 pound soil compactor machine into a massive music box that plays the “Star Spangled Banner.” Though Cole stripped most of the weight out of the compactor to make the sculpture more manageable, it still weighs in at 2,000 pounds. The sculpture was commissioned by the Cleveland Institute of Art.
Brand Eating is reporting that Taco Bell is testing out a sweet and savory Waffle Taco on its breakfast menu in at least one Southern California location. On Instagram, fast food aficionado Sarah Chavez posted a photo of the test product which she says she shot at the Taco Bell on Jamboree Road in Newport Beach, California. Brand Eating says the Waffle Taco is a folded waffle (to form the ‘taco shell’) filled with sausage and scrambled eggs and comes with a packet of syrup on the side. Chavez says, “It was awesome!”

That long awaited date is finally upon us. Just 24 hours (or less) from now, the Air Jordan V Retro “Grape” will be available once again for the third time since its inception in 1990-91. While the edition never had any significant links with Michael Jordan‘s basketball career, except a nod to Jordan’s Charlotte, North Carolina root, the shoe was loosely promoted as a “lifestyle model.” Then, it received an unlikely endorsement when Will Smith publicized them on his new television sitcom Fresh Prince of Bel-Air and the rest was Jordan Brand history.
Though the shoe won’t be your typical “limited edition,” the overwhelming demand for them means they will be gone in matter of minutes. To better coordinate your shopping strategy, we’ve created an impromptu list of retailers as a starting point for tomorrow’s (or today’s) madness…

Discovering something new and awesome is always a highlight of someone’s day. Whether it be a new food spot, vintage shop, or record store, finding it is cause for excitement. Glenn McDonald is giving us an opportunity to discover music in a way that’s never been done before. Every Noise at Once is the name of the project and using a clickable map of genres, it exposes the user to just about every type of musical genre known to man, many of which you’ve probably never heard of – filmianyone?
In McDonald’s words, he describes his project as
“algorithmically-generated non-analytical map of the musical genre-space. Genres and artists are positioned by code and data, adjusted for legibility, but the underlying vectors are less interesting than the juxtapositions and clusters that they produce, so the axes have been deliberately left unlabeled and uncalibrated. You are invited to imagine your own qualities and magnitudes that the geometry might be expressing.”
While Pandora and Spotify might be the popular choices for discovering music, Every Noise at Once might lead you on a path to a musical journey that you never thought you’d experience.
