Every rational person in New York fears falling into an open sidewalk cellar. Now, thanks to stellar on-the-scene reporting from CBS New York, we have footage of one unlucky man stumbling headfirst over an open cellar door and into a Harlem deli's basement.
Science has finally done something worthwhile: A museum in Germany has put Vincent van Gogh's regrown ear on display so visitors can ask it questions through a microphone.
San Francisco clothing manufacturer Betabrand has released a plaid button-down long-sleeve shirt that incorporates reflective graphite thread for increased visibility while riding your bike at night.
This is a poly-cotton shirt that by day is a mild-mannered button-down, and by night becomes brilliant, ultra-reflective shirt that exponentially increases your visibility.
The company has a line of similarly reflective products for cyclists, including a women’s shirt, a dress and an infinity scarf.

The Ice Ball Mold is a handy device that uses only the ambient heat discharged from a conductive metal (such as aluminum or copper) and the weight of the metal itself to transform an ice cube into a slow-melting sphere that looks pretty cool in cocktails. The excellent bartenders at The Shanty in Brooklyn, New York have been known to use one of these on a slow night.
Apple took the wraps off of OS X at the WorldWide Developer's Conference today, dubbed "Yosemite." It'll feature a new interface with elements of iOS 7's "flat" design and color scheme, new interface, updates to iCloud and Mail, features to sync iOS and OS X devices, and more.
Israel-based engineer Gil Klar wanted a pool in his backyard, but his wife wanted to keep the yard as a play area. As a compromise, in 2013 Klar built himself a “hidden pool,” complete with a retractable, synthetic grass-covered top that allows the pool area to double as an ordinary lawn. This making-of video depicts the entire build process.

In this 2013 video posted by Jaysunsphone1, a very energetic baby prairie dog teases a somewhat perplexed, but very tolerant house cat who doesn’t seem to realize that the hyper little rodent could be stalked as prey.
A 14-year-old kid commandeered his grandfather's Hyundai Veloster on Saturday, blazing through a park full of children and generally terrorizing Syracuse, Utah. His reign of mayhem was only reeled in when a citizen plowed into him with a Ram pickup. Miraculously, everyone walked away uninjured.
In this video posted by Megan Brocato, an amazing double amputee kitten named Boots, saved from euthanasia by Life is Better Rescue in Colorado, descends the stairs on her front legs with the encouragement of a human who seems very excited by Boots’ progress. Boots had a rough start in life as her missing legs were not due to a birth defect, but were amputated for an unknown reason.
The doctor’s have confirmed that her limb amputations were not as the result of a birth disorder and were not naturally occurring – both bones are quite ragged and the exposed nerve endings cause her pain as she grows, gains weight, and tries to walk on what are essentially exposed nubs. Our best guess was that she was either closed in a door or perhaps caught in a recliner as it came upright – not intentional – but certainly being dropped in the night box at the municipal shelter not a humane solution either. She will eventually need surgery to clean up the ends of her legs, and to help with the permanent fitting of prosthetics. In the meantime, she now wears “house slippers” to help to teach her to walk with her back straight, to keep her muscles from atrophying, and to help spare her the pain of walking on the painful ends of where she should have tiny kitten feet.
Donations can be made to help this determined little kitten through AmazonSmile, PayPal or through Colorado Gives.

YouTube user Arganalth has created a new video that features numerous floppy and hard disk drives playing the 1964 song “The Sound of Silence” by Simon And Garfunkel. According to a previous video, his setup runs on Arduino and a Raspberry Pi. We previously wrote about Arganalth’s floppy and hard disk drive cover of the Back to the Future theme song.
The choice of the song can maybe be a little strange because the floppy drive are very noisy, but I had this song stuck in my head since one week so I had to do it.
YouTube user Bito has created a video showcasing a full wash cycle inside a dishwasher using a GoPro Hero3 camera.
Always wanted to see what happens in my dishwasher after I close the door. Many of the other videos I saw had terrible lighting or bad angles.

Artist Jud Turner has created two new fantastic found object sculptures. “Octoploid” is a wonderfully rendered octopus crafted from welded steel, found objects, wood, glass and plastic. “Bartholomew the Rhinoceros” is a 6.5-foot-long rhino made primarily from motorcycle and snowmobile parts. We previously posted about Turner’s “Bio-Cycle” sculpture.

Firebox has released a creepy Monkey Brain Bowl that you can eat food and “chilled monkey brains” out of or recreate the famous dinner scene from Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom. The Monkey Brain Bowl, which comes equipped with a skull cap lid to keep food cold or hot, is available to purchase online.
So why not liven up meal times with this Monkey Brains Bowl and scoop chilled cerebral delicacies straight from its hairy gaping cranium. If this fine piece of severed simian storage is good enough for his Supreme Highness, the Maharajah of Pankot (and he knew how to party), then it’s certainly good enough for you. You can fill it with all sorts of exotic delights like crispy Coleoptera beetles, Eye-ball soup and “Snake Surprise” …or something more boring, like cornflakes.

Of course, there are many books about Steve Jobs and Apple. Professionals everywhere want to be like him – or want their company to succeed like Apple – so they avidly snatch up accounts of his work, hoping to find the magical recipe. For those readers this book is a first, because it tells the story of Apple’s evolution from the inside and the beginning, when Steve was first driven by the power of design to establish it as the strategic core of Apple’s business model. This book also is for the millions of Apple users, admirers, fans, and critics who may be curious about the origins of the products and the brand they feel so deeply about.
