Google Drive syncs files directly from Windows Office apps

by Billy Steele
jlrgds

Nice, i like this better than importing and converting from drive files to office files. It's easy to do, but then you have copies of both floating around places. Nice to see more integration.

Google already added tools that help Drive play nice with Office files, and now it's offering easy access from inside Microsoft's apps. With a new plug-in, you can open files for Word, Excel and PowerPoint from Drive. When the time comes, you'll be a...

Lenovo is the latest to hop on the PC-on-a-stick bandwagon

by Jon Fingas
jlrgds

Neat. Weak computer specs, but maybe a better option than lugging a laptop around whenever we go places. We'd only really need wireless mouse and keyboard. For only ~110 bucks, it seems like an okay deal.

Who knew that stick computers were suddenly in vogue? In the wake of pocket-sized desktops from Intel, Dell and Google, Lenovo is joining the fray with the Ideacentre 300 Stick. The extra-tiny Windows PC is much like a sleeker, more polished version ...

Hulu hooks up with Showtime to make internet TV more like cable

by Richard Lawler
jlrgds

a thought, at a premium, i wonder if there'll be a huge backlog of shows, or if we'll need to keep up with the current series like the standard hulu model currently is.

Showtime is following HBO's lead and launching an internet-only version of its service in July, but cutting the cable doesn't mean the bundle is going away. In a first for Hulu, it's adding the network as a premium option similar to the way it's offe...

Facebook lets users 'celebrate pride' with rainbow filter

by Jessica Conditt
jlrgds

I like the support, don't get me wrong... but I feel like... this support happens after the ruling... Where was this support when it still was/is an issue, before the fact. i.e. Facebook should have opted this option before the court rule to drum up support.

If you're a fan of the Supreme Court's ruling today that same-sex marriage is legal in all 50 states, Facebook has your profile-pride needs on lock. While logged into Facebook, head to facebook.com/celebratepride to superimpose a rainbow banner over ...

Amazon hopes to mend its image by backing a giant solar farm

by Jon Fingas
jlrgds

Think it's odd that Amazon is getting shit for not having green energy. I mean, it used coal? So does the half the country. It's inevitable. But they need to make an image? I'm glad that they are doing it, but this makes it feel like an ingenuous pr stunt.

Amazon has a reputation problem. While fellow tech giants like Apple and Yahoo are considered champions of clean energy, Greenpeace and other advocacy groups regularly knock Amazon for running its servers on dirty power (like coal) and saying little ...

Charter and Time Warner Cable agree on $55 billion merger

by Steve Dent
jlrgds

Meh, I'm glad the Comcast TWC deal fell through, but I don't like the idea of Charter and TWC connecting forces either. I'm glad it's not Comcast and Charter in bed together however as TWC is the lesser of the evils. I prefer to keep them separate and maintain the illusion of a lack of a monopoly. More competition is always better for the consumers.

Time Warner Cable (TWC) has leaped into the arms Charter Communications in a merger valued at $55 billion, confirming previous rumors. That's considerably more than the $45 billion Comcast proposed to pay for TWC in a controversial deal that was even...

WTF, 'Clickbait' and 'Emoji' are now officially words?

by Andrew Tarantola
jlrgds

There's a part of me that groans with the additions of words added to the dictionary. I remember laughing when "Jiggy" got added back in the late 90s when Will Smith's song "Jiggy with it" came out. But there's something that I like about it too. That our current language is still alive and evolving, there's a beauty in that as well. I may scoff at using "YOLO" which is really an acronym, but I like the differences between written and colloquial english lines blur as internet and texting muddy the water. I like seeing the english language almost as a living, breathing, evolving entity.

As the English language continues to evolve in response the internet's cultural onslaught, Merriam-Webster has announced that it's adding a host of new net-centric terms to its pages. In fact, the dictionary company has recently added a total of 1,70...

Surprise: Frank Miller Is Returning to the Dark Knight Saga

by Peter Rubin
jlrgds

I've read and reread The Dark Knight Strikes Back... well over a dozen times. I coveted it as one of the few comic books I had growing up. Never realized that there was a sequel to it which I haven't read. "The Dark Knight Strikes Back" which came out in 2004, (while I've seen the cover), completely slipped out of my radar. And 11 years later will be the 3rd part in the series. Yikes. Am excited, gotta catch up.

Surprise: Frank Miller Is Returning to the Dark Knight Saga

Thirty years after his seminal Batman miniseries The Dark Knight, the comics legend is coming back to wrap up the Crusader's darkest timeline.
