Resentment of the Day: Sympathy for the Boston Bomber?

Resentment of the Day: Sympathy for the Boston Bomber?

Similar to the James Holmes fandom that emerged after the Aurora Theater shooting in July 2012, sympathy for the Boston Marathon Bombing suspect Dzhokhar Tsarnaev is spreading on social networking sites. On Facebook, there are discussions of Tsarnaev's innocence reportedly taking place in a private group with more than 13,000 followers, while the hashtag #FreeJahar has been mentioned nearly 10,000 times in the past five days on Twitter as well as on Instagram. What's even more disturbing is that not all of the sympathizers seem to be tinfoil hatted conspiracy theorists, but also includes quite a few teenage girls who apparently find Tsarnaev attractive.

So-called "chopsticks on steroids," they're perfect for your next get together or for keeping your keyboard cheese-dust free during your next night blogging session.

Two Gatsby Guys

by JA
. (click to embiggen) Via Vogue Australia comes some low-key shots of the Great Gatsby actors in character - The Playlist has all the images but I picked Jason Clarke as George Wilson and Joel Edgerton as Tom Buchanan, for obvious eye-pleasing reasons. If you click over you'll see Tobey looks pretty darling as well in his lil' bow-tie. Good grief I wanna see this movie something fierce. .

These rather grim-looking rocking chairs look like they belong to the Addams family, but they're expertly carved antiques worth a few thousand dollars.

Anybody Watch Hemlock Grove Yet?

by JA
Bossclaireshorty

I watched it all this weekend. It is ridiculous and awful and fantastic and, like a train-wreck, you can't look away despite all those things. I kind of loved it; it was like watching a REALLY long b-grade horror flick.

. I think I'm going to wait until I finish all thirteen episodes to say something much for reals about Hemlock Grove, the Eli Roth produced monster show for Netflix, but for now, at the halfway point (I made it through a six episode marathon last evening), let me just say oh my god this show is awful but I cannot look away. And not just because I'm worried Bill Skarsgard's pretty Buscemi-ish eyes will pop right out of his head if he tries acting any harder. As my viewing partner put it, it's pretty clearly written by space aliens trying really hard to pretend they understand what "Human People" are like, and failing miserably. It is dancing back and forth and back and forth on the line bordering awful and camp, leaning pretty hard towards the latter. I really hope it loses its damn fool mind all the way in the final stretch. .

Unluckiest Luckiest Man Survives Both Marathon Bombing and Waco Blast

by Max Rivlin-Nadler
Click here to read Unluckiest Luckiest Man Survives Both Marathon Bombing and Waco Blast Joe Berti doesn't feel "unlucky" to have witnessed and survived both the bombing at the Boston Marathon and then the explosion at the fertilizer plant outside of Waco, Texas. He does want to "get away from all these explosions," however. More »

Green Light In My Eyes

by JA
I was up half the night listening to the police scanner online out of Boston and I'm hooked on the crazy awful news this morning, so I might be a little bit quiet for a bit - so in place of me here's the new Florence and the Machine song off of The Great Gatsby soundtrack, which I have listened to appxotmately one hundred times in the past two days. S'good. (via) .

App of the Day: Icelanders Can Bump Phones to Make Sure They Aren't Related Before Sex

Bossclaireshorty

Finally.

App of the Day: Icelanders Can Bump Phones to Make Sure They Aren't Related Before Sex

Are you terrified of love stories in Greek mythology? If you ever need to do a background check on your date to make sure he or she is not your distant cousin, well, there's an app for that. Software engineers in Iceland have scraped publicly available genealogy data to create ÍslendigaApp, a mobile Android app which allows its users to bump their phones together to check if they are blood-related before making any traumatic mistake. When a match is too close, the device will sound off an "inc*st alarm," notifying the two users that they should probably keep their clothes on.

Fan Art of the Day: The Gauntlet of Infinity

Fan Art of the Day: The Gauntlet of Infinity

Could Patton Oswalt's Marvel-crossover vision for the next Star Wars film actually become a reality? Redditor Criticalbuzz made this colorful mock-up poster in homage to Oswalt's multi-verse script idea that he pitched during his recent appearance in an episode of Parks and Recreation. In the episode, Oswalt guest stars as a filibustering citizen who launches into an impressive non-stop eight-minute long improvised speech at a town hall meeting.

Space News of the Day: Three Exoplanets May Be Life-Sustainable

Space News of the Day: Three Exoplanets May Be Life-Sustainable

After four years circling space looking for new planets, the Kepler spacecraft has identified three planets that look like they could possibly sustain life. The first two, known as Kepler-62e and Kepler-62f (shown above, top and middle), are approximately 1,200 light-years away and have estimated temperatures of -3 degrees C (26.6 F) and -65 degrees C (-85 F) respectively. The third planet, Kepler-69c (shown above, bottom) boasts a summer day-like temperature of 27 degrees C (80.6 F). Some scientists think these planets could actually be covered in oceans, but they are unsure if they would be composed of water or some other liquid.

Quote of the Day

by JA
. There are several awesome things that Joel McHale says in this all-gay-all-the-time interview with The Advocate (the phrase "quick courteous blowjob" is utilized wisely), so picking just one was a chore... but then it wasn't, because this is awesome.
Advocate: Why did you use a butt double for your nude scene in What’s Your Number?
Joel McHale: Because they didn’t give me any advance notice! All of a sudden on set they were like, “Hey, you wanna do this?” No. You have to pay for this ass, my friend.

Hand me my checkbook. .

Good Morning, McAvoy

by JA
Bossclaireshorty

Well. Oh my. Gotta say I like him with his natural Scottish accent. Bruthah.

. I think we should just bypass the fact that the coked-out eye-watering barfing perverted mess that James McAvoy is showing off in the first trailer for Filth, from the book by Trainspotting writer Irving Welsh, is the most attractive I've ever found him - and I have found him attractive before - and just go right to, gosh this movie looks fun, don't it?
James knows what I am talking about. I mean, the other faces that pop up - Eddie Marsan! Jim Broadbent! Kate Dickie! Jamie Bell...
... would be enough, even without that disturbing thing I said I wasn't going to mention at the start. Oh what the fuck, come on!
Tell me you're not jealous.  Here's the trailer: .

Pics of the Day

by JA
Bossclaireshorty

I don't really know anything about this movie, but TILDIE!

. I was going to say "we've" been waiting for the first pictures of the cast in Snowpiercer - the sci-fi "post-apocalypse on a train" movie with the kick-ass cast from the Bong Joon-ho, director of The Host - but I don't know, have "we"? I keep rambling about it but nobody seems to care. Anyway I have been waiting for these. You can see all of them over at Slash, including shots of John Hurt, Octavia Spencer, Ed Harris, so on - but I grabbed the three that matter most to me, those being Tilda Swinton, Chris Evans and Jamie Bell, seen here. I cropped the entire images - they're actually done up as character passports, so click over for all that jazz. I just wanted to see these folks faces, sue me. I do hope everything doesn't stay quite so mud colored, though. Or, in the cases of Evans and Bell, covered up.
